Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has abandoned his court appeal to serve the remainder of his six-year sentence at home, according to court documents reviewed by Malay Mail.

His law firm, Shafee & Co, filed a Notice of Discontinuance on April 2, with no reason given, and the Court of Appeal struck out the appeal on April 14.

00:01Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will not be leaving prison anytime soon.
00:07According to court documents reviewed by the Malay Mail, Najib's law firm, Shafi & Co.,
00:12informed the Court of Appeal on April 3rd that it was filing a Notice of Discontinuance,
00:16formally withdrawing the appeal.
00:18The notice, dated April 2nd, stated that Najib wished to permanently terminate and withdraw his appeal,
00:25with no liberty to file again and no order as to costs.
00:28No reason was given.
00:30On April 14th, the Court of Appeal's Deputy Registrar officially recorded the appeal as struck out.
00:37That means Najib remains at Kajang Prison, with no further legal avenue to seek a return home.
00:42On December 22nd last year, the KL High Court dismissed Najib's bid to serve the remainder of his sentence for
00:49corruption at his home,
00:51ruling that a royal document allowing the move was not valid.
00:54Najib has been behind bars since August 23rd, 2022, for the misappropriation of 42 million ringgit from SRC International.
01:04His original 12-year sentence was reduced to 6 years by the Yang di Pertuan Agong in 2024,
01:11with his fine cut from 210 million to 50 million ringgit.
01:16His exact release date, August 2028 or 2029, depends on whether he settles that remaining fine.
