00:00Don't go anywhere I need to get a statement from you who's involved some people that have called
00:10in said that they hit a hawk on the interstate amazing to me that he was still alive I'm watching
00:16these guys coming down and there's fire all around us today we are going to electroshock
00:22some fish it will briefly stun the fish we can net them and measure them if I find out that this
00:26elk has been shot it's potentially a felony that is crazy look at this fish that is absolutely insane
00:34these embers that are falling on us right now we should get out of here Nevada a land of extremes
00:43from the strip to the summits it's wild country home to more than 900 species and a way of life
00:52worth protecting preserved for the people and the wildlife that call it home one team
00:59stands guard this is Nevada wild
01:22I got a report of a vehicle that I had actually looked at about a month ago which appears to be
01:32abandoned there's some things about it that just look kind of off to me the windows are rolled down
01:38nothing's locked it looks really disheveled and it's not registered run the vin number and it comes back to
01:45someone in arizona that's not answering with it being a really remote area and this vehicle being
01:50out for so long it's possible this individual went for a hike and is out on the mountains and that's
01:56where my expertise and my skill set comes into play and I patrol an area bigger than some states
02:04I know springs and mountain ranges and the main roads and most of the stuff in these areas but
02:11every single year I'll get on a road and be like I had no idea that this road even existed
02:16so we're coming up on this vehicle the windows are down not likely that someone would leave a vehicle
02:22here wouldn't leave the windows down it looks to me like someone would park it like this to go for a
02:28hike a quick hike and then they would come back
02:30it's never been locked it's just open there's water food things that look like he intended to utilize it
02:43for a while normally we wouldn't go into a person's vehicle and look around but when it's a public safety
02:51issue and I'm worried about a guy's life then we have the ability to dig a little deeper without having
02:57a warrant does say right on the window here bad transmission I mean it could be leaving a note
03:02for someone hey this is has a bad transmission that's why I'm leaving it here you know you can
03:07show me out I'm gonna do a little recon up on Dutch John Mountain possible missing person things can
03:15get really dangerous really quick out here you fall and break your leg and you're only half a mile
03:20out that half a mile in the heat can kill you it can get dangerous in a hurry so I'm just going to
03:27do a trek up to that mountain range we're going to be looking for scent the smell of something dead
03:34after a month it's more of a recovery operation if there is a body out here than a rescue
03:50you ready to go let's make it happen all right let's do this I am Lisa Osborne I am with Nevada
04:00Department of Wildlife I am a fisheries biologist in southern Nevada today I am out at Hunts Canyon
04:06Creek with Connor Friel local game warden and local expert to the area my family is fourth generation
04:14Nevadan spent my whole life outside come from a law enforcement background being a game warden was the
04:19natural progression of combining love for the outdoors and law enforcement we are going to
04:24survey some fish in Hunts Canyon Creek and see what's there for an official site we measure out
04:31a predetermined length so 50 to 100 meters as a fisheries biologist we survey streams so that
04:39we can tell people what fish is where the last survey that took place here was in 1956 it summarizes
04:45fish that have been stocked from 1912 to 1956 and in that time they stocked rainbow trout brook trout
04:52brown trout there have been a lot of fish stocked in this stream in the last 100 years some of them
04:58may be here none of them may be here I expect that we will at least catch brook trout which is the local
05:04report of what's in here the reason why we would shock upstream is that any turbidity that we cause and
05:12silt that we stir up will go behind us and it's clear upstream and then also as the fish are stunned
05:20the current will just bring them right to us and right into our nets I'm going to use a backpack
05:24electro shocker it is a standardized method for surveying fish throughout north america it puts
05:30an electrical current into the water it will briefly stun the fish we can net them and measure them and go from
05:36there um I want to see if I can get something in the lowest part of this site hopefully I can catch it
05:48we've been asked in the past you know why wouldn't we just net the fish or just net a few up these are
05:53wild trout and so they're really skittish and they're gonna see us coming got them they're all
06:09brown trout oh there's a good one we are catching brown trout we expected brook trout here that is a
06:16little bit surprising it's already a species that I did not think we were going to catch
06:21they're wild here they're established we caught multiple age classes so we know that they're
06:27surviving over generations but it's really cool because now there's another species that anglers
06:33could potentially come and catch in one stream there isn't any size limit on these trout this creek is
06:40three trout in general small streams wild trout they're not going to be giant fish that you would get
06:46in a big river or a like a lake if we caught like an eight or ten inch fish that would be a really big
06:53fish for this stream okay there's one by your foot
07:01fish yes fish
07:07did you get them yeah
07:12220.
07:16i know the brook trout are like some people's favorite pastime from childhood
07:20but it's also nice to have a place with something different like brown trout.
07:36A little water in the boots. It's okay.
07:43This is amazing!
07:50We did about a mile loop up there. Wasn't able to see anything. Glassed up some of the
07:59cliff faces and things just in case he'd fallen. Yeah, it was definitely good to get in there and
08:04just do a preliminary search and see if we found any footprints. I'm going to do a little more
08:09research and see if we can come up with something to really narrow down who we're looking for.
08:14The mystery remains unsolved.
08:25You see that smoke coming up? So this is the Pony Springs Fire Station. I can pull in here real
08:31quick and see if they can fill me in on where that fire is at.
08:35Looks like they're gone. They're probably out fighting that fire.
08:45I know the rancher out there, so I'm going to give him a call and see if he's all right.
08:55Hello? Hey, John. Hey, I'm looking over there from Highway 93.
09:00It looks like there's some smoke out by your guys' area. Are you guys got a fire out there?
09:06Um, yeah. I can see the smoke out the door.
09:08Is it making you nervous?
09:10Um, it is now when I walked outside. I didn't see it just like 10 minutes ago
09:16when I walked out the door, so it's pretty quick.
09:20All right. Call me if you need anything. I'm going to make sure BLM knows about it.
09:25Okay. That would be awesome. Call me back if you guys need anything.
09:29Okay. Thank you. Be safe.
09:32So this fire sounds like it could be threatening a ranch that I have a really close, I mean,
09:40friends that border on family out there. It makes it a little bit personal,
09:44but also it's a public safety issue, so we're about 40 miles from it. Let's see if it's threatening
09:49any structures. I'm going to call the Bureau of Land Management and just make sure they got
09:53fire crews that know about it, and they're responding. You get these really dry summers,
10:00and then these storm systems that roll through, and lightning strikes, and a lot of this country
10:07goes up. It's like a tinderbox. I mean, you can see out there now, it's really starting to roll up
10:12above that mountain.
10:21I mean, you can see out there now, it's really starting to roll up above that mountain.
10:31I'm heading towards Mount Wilson. Do you guys already have this fire reported out in Hamlin
10:44Valley? I don't think so. Smoke's pouring out back on there. All right, we'll get some stuff going,
10:49and thank you, and we might check back with you. All right. Great, thanks. Bye.
10:55That's the BLM Fire Dispatch Center out of Yealy. When we first saw it, five minutes,
11:00ten minutes ago, it was really wispy, and now it's billowing smoke.
11:08If I can get out here and help them locate the fire, get a GPS coordinate for them so they can
11:14get in there and respond quickly and get that fire under control. One minute, you're working on
11:21finding a missing person, and then the next, you're heading into the mountains trying to find a wildfire.
11:37A little water in the boots. It's okay.
11:38Oh, jeez. This is amazing.
11:50Oh my God. There's fish all around our feet. Insane. Brown trout are one of those species that
11:58can get really, really big in not very much water. That's not two feet of water. I mean,
12:05that might be a foot deep. Look at this fish. I mean, that is absolutely insane. And there were
12:13about four of these same size fish in that one spot. It's really amazing. And that's actually one
12:19of the special things about brown trout is that in a small amount of water, they can grow really big.
12:26So yeah, let's get to measuring. I definitely want a picture with that one. Yeah.
12:30When Connor wants a picture with a fish, it's special. Today was such a fun day. We got to walk
12:38around in some beautiful meadows, see some beautiful stream, beautiful fish. And so that's going to be
12:43something that's really exciting for local anglers. And people may even come to this stream just for
12:48these fish.
13:01You know, we're still 10 miles from the Hermitage Ranch where my friends live. But the wind is blowing
13:08that direction. We got to be really careful when we get in there that we don't get in and get trapped
13:14in there. Especially on roads like this, you can get back on a road and then the road, it can burn
13:19across and then you're stuck back in an area. It's no good. Fires are a natural part of ecosystems.
13:28You can look on some of these mountainsides where it's burned 10 years ago and that's where all the
13:33critters are. That's where the deer and the elk and the wild horses and things hang out because
13:38it's such great habitat, such good forage. So there's pros and cons to fires. We worry about
13:45the ranches around here and the people that have property and the people that live around here.
13:49So there's a truck coming this way. It might be Jim from the Hermitage. How's it going, Jim?
13:58Howdy, howdy. How many acres are we looking at? They hiked up and put one of the hot spots out up on
14:05Coyote side, right at the Y between Coyote and Miller. It's crossed the road this side of the water
14:11springs and it's already going up. If it crests over with this wind, it's going to go all the way through
14:16with McCullough. The way it's looking, I would get out. Well, the wind's blowing that direction.
14:21Yep. And if it comes over that lip with this wind coming down from that face, all of that's gone.
14:26Yeah. So this fire is in an area where it could burn into where people live. The problem is that
14:34there's other fires going on throughout the state and throughout the west, so resources are cut really
14:40thin right now. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. We'll see you guys. Be safe, man.
14:49So we're going to maintain our distance from it. Just try to get a better idea of its size.
14:58From which direction it's headed.
15:03I think this is about as close as we're going to get.
15:10Look at this guy.
15:21It's very comforting to see these planes overhead because I know these are the smokejumpers.
15:27These are the best of the best. These are the Navy SEALs of the firefighting world that are
15:31dropping in and they're going to be able to figure out what to do on this fire
15:35and what resources are going to be needed going forward.
15:48I'm watching these guys coming down and there's fire all around us and there's not great places for
15:54them to land. I'm going to be there to make sure that if they're landing in spots, I can help them out.
16:00I'm watching these guys coming down and there's fire all around us.
16:23You guys good?
16:36Yeah.
16:36Okay.
16:38He's good?
16:41He's good.
16:42Kitchens?
16:43Dude, that was terrifying.
16:44You guys came down fast.
16:47He's good.
16:58He's good.
17:10Along with them dropping out of the planes,
17:12they're dropping the tools that they use to fight fires. Shovels, rakes, Pulaski's. Pulaski's are a
17:19combination pickaxe, shovel, rake. It's a really unique tool that firefighters use to fight wildland fire.
17:35How's it going, man?
17:35How are you?
17:36Good.
17:37Was that pretty scary coming down?
17:39That's one of the, that was bad air.
17:41Was it?
17:41Yeah, that's not how it's supposed to go.
17:43Yeah, you guys, I was like, they're coming down fast.
17:45Yeah, yeah, that was bad.
17:47That thunder cell parked overhead and it pushes air down.
17:50Yeah.
17:51Makes the parachute almost anywhere.
17:52And you guys aren't supposed to go in the trees, right?
17:54No, no.
17:56Well, I'm glad everybody's okay.
17:57Yeah, me too.
17:59Right on, thanks.
18:01These smokejumpers, they had a rough landing on the way down.
18:04They usually are always able to get it under control in one way or another.
18:10But this wind, it's pretty threatening.
18:14These embers that are falling on us right now, we should get out of here.
18:18You can see that tree on fire right there.
18:34How's it going, Jim?
18:34Howdy, howdy.
18:35These smokejumpers, about eight of them just jumped in.
18:38I saw them.
18:39So.
18:39They're sending helicopters out, but they're probably going to want me to be
18:43with both water bumpers filling their trucks up.
18:46Ask them if they want to utilize it.
18:47There's a couple right up here.
18:51So the firemen have asked them to bring that 400 gallons down there.
19:14Good, how are you guys?
19:16How's it looking?
19:17Not good.
19:18Not good.
19:20How many guys you guys got on it now?
19:2370.
19:24Probably 200 more on order.
19:28All right.
19:29All right.
19:29Be safe.
19:30Right there.
19:31He's a part of the local BLM fire crew.
19:38Sounds like they don't have it anywhere under control.
19:44It's surreal.
19:58It's surreal.
19:58To put it in perspective, this looks devastating, but fire cycles are natural.
20:06That mountainside where we just drove over the top of that mountain burned 15 years ago,
20:12and it's incredible habitat.
20:14Animals are really resilient.
20:16And the good thing is that BLM's on it.
20:19The guys that know what they're doing are up there fighting it.
20:22So I'm going to take off.
20:35Are you calling Bullhead and telling them that you're on the water?
20:42Yeah.
20:43Okay.
20:46All right.
20:46I'm going to head south.
20:48Christopher Walther, game warden lieutenant.
20:50Today, I'll be working with game warden Cavazos.
20:53He's a fairly new warden.
20:55For a new warden to have the opportunity to work in this environment, the experience is invaluable.
21:01We're going to be on separate patrol boats, but if something does occur,
21:05then he's very close where I can either assist him or he can assist me.
21:10Is that...
21:11Oh, that's on land.
21:16Reno, 3411.
21:2510-4.
21:26Uh, myself, 3416, we'll be counting on the water.
21:29We'll head up there.
21:30Hear that?
21:31Yeah, North Davis, Dan?
21:32Yeah, let's head up there.
21:40The Colorado River in Laughlin is always busy.
21:42We launch the boats usually sometime late morning,
21:45and we are usually not surprised if we have an incident occur right as we launch.
21:49Two PWCs collided with injuries. Unknown extensive injuries.
21:58Since where I got visual, I have two ambulances on scene. You can show me.
22:05When the call comes over radio of a PWC incident, a PWC is also known as a personal
22:11watercraft or a jet ski. There's not a lot of protection for those occupants on those vessels,
22:17so the first thing that runs through our mind is, okay, how bad are the injuries going to be in
22:22this incident?
22:35Hey, is he involved?
22:36Uh, I thought what happened.
22:38Okay, don't go anywhere. I need to get a statement from you. Who's involved?
22:41This guy right here?
22:48Come here. Okay, what happened?
22:55Okay, go up to the ambulance. See if we get information from the individual in the ambulance.
22:59Okay.
23:00Get the extent of his injuries. Do you have your ID handy?
23:02Yeah.
23:02Go get your ID, okay?
23:05Is that the ski right there?
23:06Yeah.
23:06Yeah.
23:06That's your ski?
23:09When we approach an incident like this, we look at the damage that has occurred,
23:13a quick witness account of who was doing what and where they were at. Where did he hit you?
23:21Okay, where on here? Show me.
23:22Okay, in their side of the story, one ski was crossing while the other ski was going upriver.
23:37How fast do you think you were going?
23:4210 miles per hour?
23:42Yeah.
23:43Your son was on here? Your boy or girl?
23:44My son.
23:45Where's he at?
23:46He's coming.
23:48Is he okay? Is he okay?
23:49Yeah, he's okay.
23:50Okay.
23:51All right, just hang tight. Don't go anywhere.
23:54So I got that ski over there. I got his contract, his ID. This is the other ski here. We need to run that.
24:01My other guy's getting information from the two victims, apparently that are both juveniles and the
24:06ambulances.
24:06Okay.
24:07Just need to know the extent of their injuries and as much contact information as possible.
24:11If you want to help him with that, see what he's done.
24:13Okay.
24:14Right now, 3411 dry. It's going to be Arizona 342.
24:32Why are you at this ski? Huh?
24:34Do you own this?
24:39Yeah.
24:40Is it a rental?
24:41No.
24:42Okay. Just do me a favor. Just get back a second, all right? I got to get some pictures.
24:54A Reno 3411.
24:59What do you have from the juveniles?
25:02One's on top. Those are two victims.
25:05Any extent of injuries at this point?
25:07No, no extent of injuries.
25:09Okay. Hold on a minute.
25:18Habla ingles?
25:18Yeah.
25:19So this is your ski?
25:20Yeah.
25:20Do you have the paperwork on it?
25:21Yeah.
25:23Who is operating this?
25:26Your cousin?
25:27Okay.
25:28Do you write English well?
25:31Not very well?
25:32What's up, bud? What's your name?
25:34Can you write me a witness statement?
25:37Or just have your dad?
25:38He knows more.
25:39Okay. So I'm going to get you a piece of paper, and I'm going to have him tell you exactly what happened, and you just write it down.
25:45All right.
25:45Copy that?
25:46Yes.
25:46All right. Hang tight for me.
25:47It's a PWC on PWC incident. Looks like a T-bone, most likely. One individual, he remained on scene. Usually they just take off.
25:59It seems like a pretty simple just miscommunication of what the other ski was doing. Obviously one ski's at fault, one ski's at hot. So we're just trying to figure out what exactly happened.
26:09And he was riding with you? This one? You? Come here. How old are you?
26:15Okay. And your dad was operating?
26:17Yeah.
26:17How fast do you think he was going?
26:2116 miles per hour?
26:23Yeah.
26:23Okay.
26:28Okay. So they were doing circles?
26:29Okay. So in your experience, whose fault do you think it was?
26:46So yesterday I got a call from our dispatch. Some people that had called in said that they had hit a hawk on the interstate out here just east of Elko.
27:09I met up with these folks, and his wings were still kind of stuck out of the grill, and so were his talons, his feet, and his head were still kind of out the little hole that he went through in the grill.
27:22You know, when they hit him, it just broke a hole small enough for his body to actually go through, which was amazing to me that he was still alive.
27:29I took and I broke a bunch of this plastic grill off to where I was able to make a hole to be able to pull him out of there.
27:36And it looks to me to be a Cooper's Hawk. He was able to puncture holes through the gloves that I was wearing and actually got me on the thumb with one of his talons.
27:47Are you going to be nice to me today?
28:00Got a hold of my fingers pretty good with his talons.
28:03It's always the talons and always the wings that they check just to make sure that they have full functionality of them.
28:09That's what they use to hunt. His talons still work good.
28:13This wing, it's still functioning really good.
28:15They'll put them wings out and they'll try to make themselves really big.
28:19His left wing is the one that I'm more concerned about. I think that one's the one that took the most of the damage.
28:24And I can't feel any broken bones inside there at all. We'll take him out to Spring Creek to a place out here that's got water and trees and release him out there and hopefully it'll survive.
28:38He's got plenty of fight. A good sign pointing towards a positive thing for him.
28:57I'm just going to put him over closer to the stream. That way he's got a little bit of water right there and hopefully he'll be able to shade up and recover a little bit easier over here.
29:23I feel a lot better with him being kind of underneath that tree and right here by both of these little streams. At least he'll have constant water right in there and there's going to be plenty of food here and it's going to be a quiet area for it to be able to just kind of relax, recuperate, and hopefully take off and fly.
29:48Yeah, it sounds good, Jason. I'll head that way and see what we can come up with. Thanks, I appreciate it. Bye.
30:08I just received a call from a landowner telling me that he found a dead elk on his property. He can kind of see some holes in the hide, but he's not certain if it's been shot or not.
30:23If it's a bull elk, there's a potential somebody could have poached it and maybe they're leaving it there and they're going to try to come back and get the head at a later time or maybe it died of natural causes.
30:38It's big enough that it could be an exit wound.
31:05A lot of times whenever something dies, you know, and the birds start picking at it, they'll usually go for a spot that, you know, a soft spot.
31:12If there was a bullet hole there, that very easily could be, you know, a spot where they would have picked around, you know, picking into there.
31:20If I find out that this elk has been shot, it's potentially a felony unlawful harvest of a big game mammal.
31:26They could also have been hunting on private property without landowner permission and the waste of a big game.
31:33That's a pretty, pretty big violation.
31:35They have to come clear it because our chopper line is on top.
31:38On the top of that ridge?
31:40Okay.
31:40And you did hear shooting back up here about a month ago.
31:44And shot.
31:45That is crazy.
31:46I just can't believe that nothing's touched him.
32:03That's what's crazy to me.
32:05It makes you wonder if there's something that it actually did ingest that was toxic.
32:10Directionality-wise, it looks like he was going to, he was walking this way to a little bit thicker tree cover, possibly to lay down.
32:17Pretty good hole in the front end of it.
32:19I'll just run the metal detector over and see what we come up with.
32:22If it ends up being something that somebody shot, we'll definitely see what we can come up with because this is, it's a shame.
32:29All right, well, we're going to let you do your thing.
32:33I see a couple of holes in this elk.
32:35It's been laying here for quite a while.
32:36I'm going to get my metal detector out, see if I can't find, you know, bullet fragments, a possible bullet laying somewhere close to the elk.
32:46Maybe the birds have picked through it and they were able to find the bullet.
32:49And a lot of times, if they do, they'll spit it out really pretty close to the carcass.
32:53If somebody was to shoot an animal, a lot of times they're going to try to shoot it to kill it.
32:59So most likely your bullet, you know, if you do have a bullet in there, you're going to either recover it, you know, in that, in that ribcage area.
33:07A lot of times they're going to be trying to shoot for vitals.
33:10Sometimes you'll get false hits on some of this stuff too.
33:13So I'd always end up getting like a false hit off of a femur bone.
33:16Seems like these larger bone structures.
33:24I'm not getting anything there at all.
33:28I'm not getting any hits.
33:30It's getting a hit a few times right in here.
33:52I think it's just a false hit, but what I'm doing right now is I'm peeling this layer back.
33:56I'll run the metal detector over it again, make sure that it was just that, a false hit.
34:08I think I can be relatively safe to say that there's nothing there.
34:11You can see that this bull had a ton of rumen, and hardly any of it is digested,
34:18which makes me think that there was possibly something that he ingested
34:22that triggered his brain to make him think that he wasn't getting enough food.
34:27And like he wasn't digesting it at all, and just basically gorged himself to death almost.
34:33I'm not getting any hits with the metal detector.
34:35I'm not seeing any broken bones.
34:38Can't completely rule it out, but I can almost say with 95% confidence
34:43that this elk died of natural causes versus being shot.
34:47I think we'll leave it at that and tell the biologists where it's at
34:51if they want to come out and take a look at it.
35:03This is Nick?
35:05Hey, Nick. What's going on?
35:06Hey, not a whole lot. What's happening, Matt?
35:08You got a dead bull elk over there.
35:10Yeah, there's a dead bull up here on Cronin's property.
35:13Do you want me to take any sample of the rumen?
35:16You know, if it's not too gross.
35:18Yeah, it's not bad, Matt. I mean, it's a little bit wet, but I can take it.
35:21Cut a femur and the head off. That'd be great.
35:24Because the head of the femur can harbor some bacteria.
35:26That's not a problem, Matt. I can go back up there and cut the head off,
35:30and I can cut you a section of femur out and get you a sample, so.
35:34Yeah, perfect. These dang elk, we've got to figure this stuff out.
35:37Perfect.
35:38I really appreciate it. Thanks.
35:39Yep, not a problem, Matt.
35:40All right.
35:41All right. Bye.
35:42It's good for the biologist to be able to get samples like this.
35:45I mean, maybe he knows of an outbreak of larkspur.
35:49Larkspur is toxic to elk.
35:51He's going to be able to get these samples into the wildlife lab,
35:54and they'll be able to get the results back to him,
35:57and then he'll be able to know what it is that he's looking at.
35:59With the samples that we got and the samples they got from that cow,
36:02we could get a little bit closer to finding an answer of what's killing these elk here.
36:05Who's fault do you think it was?
36:20I think it was them.
36:21We were going, like, everywhere.
36:23Just straight?
36:24We were like this.
36:25Okay, were you scared?
36:26Yeah.
36:27Do you have your life jacket on?
36:29Yeah.
36:29I put it over there.
36:30Okay.
36:31All right, man.
36:31What grade are you going into?
36:32You get a six?
36:33What do you want to do when you grow up?
36:36No, come on.
36:37You're just saying that because I'm here.
36:42Okay, good.
36:43So the rest of the day, you tell your dad to be careful, huh?
36:46Okay.
36:48How was his witness statement?
36:50His statement was the cousin and brother on this ski.
36:53Yep.
36:54They were going up this way, circled back.
36:57Uh-huh.
36:58Then they were on the other side of the river, about to come over here to park the ski.
37:01Okay.
37:01The other ski was coming upriver, and they turned to port.
37:04Yeah.
37:05That's how.
37:06When an individual who's operating a PwC is at fault for an incident, in some instances,
37:11they will receive a citation for a violation of the rules of the road or a Coast Guard navigable rule.
37:15If we find that we can't really determine who is at fault, usually those issues will be resolved
37:21via civil court and or they'll have to deal with the rental company for damage to the PwC that occurred.
37:27We're going to have to take a ride over to the hospital and get as much information from every
37:31side as possible in order to do a thorough, complete investigation.
37:34We're going to head back out on patrol now.
37:36We're going to head back out on patrol now.
38:06Get out of the way.
38:07Get out of the way.
38:07Hey!
38:09Hey!
38:11Hey!
38:12Get out of the way.
38:19Hey!
38:20Hey!
38:22Get out of the way.
38:25Ma'am.
38:26Yeah, we got it.
38:27You got a life jacket on, right?
38:30Okay, so you're good.
38:30Relax, okay?
38:32Nepal, come tie up on my port side.
38:34Ma'am.
38:35Ma'am, just relax.
38:36Just relax, okay?
38:37We're going to help you, all right?
38:39To be floating in the Colorado River is, it's quite dangerous.
38:42Even if you have a life jacket on, there's so much chop sometimes that they may not see
38:48you bobbing up and down and you could potentially get run over by a PwC.
38:52I want you to turn around and hold on to my boat, okay?
38:55Give me your hand.
38:56Okay?
38:56Okay.
38:56Okay.
38:58Hold it.
38:59Hold it.
39:01Reno, 34-23, Jay.
39:0730, ma'am.
39:08V- elim-, can't be playing.
39:10Reno, 34-11, drive.
39:12The current is usually 6 to 8 miles per hour.
39:35For operators who don't have a lot of experience on a PWC, if they end up stopping and getting
39:41turned sideways in that current, it will usually throw off their center of gravity and they
39:45bounce and they'll fall over the water.
39:46So a lot of our day is spent picking up people and or overturning PWCs that they have fallen
39:52off of.
39:53So it's just part of the job that we do and it does happen quite frequently.
40:00That's up right now, code 4, just making sure she's trying to get them in.
40:21Just float, just float down.
40:27Here I am, just down to shore.
40:34You can't tell code 4.
40:41So what happened?
40:42Let's deep break this real quick.
40:45So he fell off to Steve.
40:48And so I went over there to help him out.
40:50Yeah.
40:51You know, I was trying to just talk him through getting on the ladder, but she wasn't able
40:55to get on the ladder.
40:56That's when you kind of showed up.
40:57Okay.
40:58We could have gotten her on if she helped.
41:01Yeah.
41:02She was not healthy.
41:03He wasn't holding my hand.
41:05Any day in Laughlin, incidents are going to occur.
41:08But as long as we're out there and we're trying to help the public and enforce recreational
41:12boating safety, I mean, that's all you can do.
41:15The price is avoided.
41:16The price is avoided.
