00:00The Houston Texans took on the Los Angeles Chargers yesterday.
00:03This line closed, Joe.
00:04Minus one, minus one and a half as a favorite towards the home team, the Chargers.
00:07And also a total, 40 and a half to 41, depending on where you were shopping at.
00:11Final score, 20 to 16.
00:13And by the way, it shouldn't even have been that close.
00:15You had a couple drives in the first quarter.
00:17Bombs away for the Houston Texans that got them a 14, Joe.
00:19And then they just went out on the ice capades after and said,
00:22hey, we're not going to do anything after that.
00:24We don't think you can chase us down.
00:2620 to 16, Houston gets to win 11 and 5.
00:28The defense looks great, but the offense, final three quarters, the heck was going on?
00:31Yeah, and I put this out after the win saying that anybody believing in the Houston Texans
00:37big picture to be an AFC champion, you know, you better have your head examined.
00:42And I understand they're 11 and 5 overall.
00:44I understand they have one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL.
00:47But we've seen time and time again where D'Amico Ryans, and I'll say this,
00:52he is the Dr. Evil of the NFL.
00:54They jump up 14-0.
00:55He puts, you know, he pulls back the reins.
00:58He's afraid to put his foot on the pedal and just kill teams.
01:03Why win games 40 to 20 when you can lose them 21 to 17?
01:07Eventually, in a playoff situation, that mentality, expecting your defense to play perfect game
01:14in and game out will ultimately bite you in the end.
01:17He has a franchise quarterback in CJ Stroud.
01:20Let the guy cook.
01:21He threw for 142 in the first quarter.
01:24He finishes with 244.
01:26Yeah, Woody Marks, 19 carries, 71 yards, no touchdowns.
01:29Jordan, 8 carries for 36 yards.
01:31Jaden Higgins there, 2 catches, excuse me, for 88 yards in this game.
01:35And you're right about this, Joe.
01:36Because you saw the game plan going in, and most people probably thought it was going to be an under.
01:40And after the first quarter, that's not going to be an under because the charges will open it up.
01:43The game actually stays under.
01:44But understand what Joe was saying.
01:45Stroud had two deep shots to wide-open players there.
01:48The guy is red hot, and it's like, okay, that's enough scoring here.
01:51We're not going to score for the rest of the half, and we're going to let the charges back in.
01:54And keep in mind, they were throwing interceptions and turnovers where the charges just couldn't get out of their own way
01:58and even make that happen.
01:59A 32-yard missed field goal by the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL.
02:04But the Texans do get the victory.
02:06But I look at this show, and your point is right.
02:08Both of these teams, Chargers and Texans, how do you win in the playoffs?
02:12Great defensive line, great offensive line.
02:15Neither one of these offensive lines, Joe, is going to be able to hold up in the playoffs.
02:18I don't think so.
02:18No, it's not.
02:19And, you know, you talk about the victory that they got over Jacksonville where they put up 36 points
02:24with their backup Davis Mills, right?
02:26That was an outlier because you look at the games after that.
02:2916-13 to the Titans, right?
02:32They barely win.
02:3323-19 to the Bills.
02:3520-16 to the Colts.
02:37They blow out Arizona.
02:38They have a close game against the Raiders, right?
02:4123-21.
02:42And then yesterday's performance.
02:44If you don't want to blow teams out, that is a mentality that I'm telling you.
02:50In the end, you're going to meet an offense that is going to put up 30 on your defense,
02:55and you're not going to be able to match because you don't have that killer instinct offensively.
03:00And we talked about Bobby Slowick two years ago with C.J. Stroud.
03:03C.J. Stroud hasn't shown he's like an elite quarterback.
03:07We know he could do it in spurts.
03:10Can he do it for four quarters in a playoff environment?
03:13We are really up in the air, Joe, in the AFC.
03:15Let's get that broad picture of the conference betting odds.
03:18If you take a look, it's the Denver Broncos currently right now, Joe.
03:20Plus 350 price to the New England Patriots.
03:234-1 price along with the Buffalo Bills.
03:24Then the Jags, the Texans, the Chargers, who those two teams just played yesterday.
03:28It seems to me it's wide open.
03:30Denver, we haven't seen them do it on the big stage just yet.
03:32Love what they're doing this season, but questions about, oh, how easy is the schedule?
03:36And what are you going to get out of Bo Nix once you get to the playoffs?
03:38The Patriots, the same thing.
03:39Drake May's been great.
03:40Schedule hasn't been all that great.
03:41The Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen.
03:43If they don't get there this year, when can they ever get there?
03:46There is a team sitting there, Joe.
03:47The Jacksonville Jaguars right now hitting the gas pedal on offense at the right time.
03:51Talk to me about a couple of these teams in the AFC you might be looking at.
03:53Yeah, so Denver, if they get the number one seed, they're going to be very difficult to beat in mile high.
03:58But to your point about Jacksonville, they are really coming into form.
04:02And Trevor Lawrence is looking like that franchise guy.
04:05He's throwing the ball vertically.
04:06We see the emergence of Strange, the tight end.
04:09Parker Washington has come on in the absence of Hunter.
04:13That's out.
04:14You know, they're doing it, running the football with Travis Etienne and stretching defenses over the top.
04:20They've been opportunistic defensively.
04:22They've been now in multiple tough environments and have picked up solid road wins.
04:28If you could get that, they pick up another road win today.
04:30And I understand Indianapolis is dead and buried, but if they bury them by double digits yet again,
04:36the way they did against Denver, in a playoff type of situation, I'm going to buy into Liam Cohen.
04:42I actually believe in this team.
04:44I like his play calling.
04:45He's aggressive.
04:46He wants to score on every possession.
04:49And in a playoff type of atmosphere, I would much rather take that team than Houston.
04:53That's more of a defensive-minded team, hoping that they get opportunities on the defensive side of the ball.
