Mumbai: In an exclusive interview, music composer Aman Pant opened up about crafting the Nagamese identity for the show’s latest season. He explored indigenous instruments such as the Naga log drum and the Tati, incorporating them into the theme. His collaboration with Raj and DK gave him creative freedom, resulting in a unique soundscape. Aman believes that technology is a tool, not a replacement for human emotion in music. He also advised aspiring musicians to create their own opportunities and share their work. Finally, he shared his excitement about his upcoming projects and expressed appreciation for the positive response to his work on The Family Man.

00:00First of all, welcome to INS. Thank you.
00:03First of all, Zanna Sangha, family and Dega-Chang,
00:07to compose Nagami's version of Nagami's version is a unique challenge.
00:11How do you have to approach the original vibe to maintain,
00:16and Nagami's cultural identity be authentically represented?
00:20What did you learn when I was composed in this shop?
00:24First, my third collaboration with Raj N.D. K. is my third collaboration.
00:27He did Gunzan Kulab, Citadel, and he did it.
00:30He was already a grab-o with them.
00:32When he told me, it was a challenge for us,
00:34because this theme is already composed of Kamal.
00:37Season 1 and Season 2 was already composed.
00:40So, the composer for me was that
00:44the authenticity of the theme was to keep it.
00:47This show is set in Nagaland.
00:49So, we have to incorporate that Nagami's tribal vibe.
00:53So, I went to Nagaland for that.
00:57Then, there were different kinds of instruments.
01:00Nagami, log drum, Tati's instrument.
01:03Then, there were different horns.
01:05The wind instruments.
01:06There were different kinds of instruments.
01:08We tried to record it there.
01:10And, along with them,
01:12I incorporated them.
01:14So, it was very interesting and unique.
01:16It was very unique.
01:18And, I think, it was good.
01:22These days, I was just reading a lot of film critics.
01:26And, everyone mentioned my name.
01:28Someone wrote that it's the highlight of the show.
01:32At Nagami's version.
01:33Composed by Amanpani.
01:34So, it's good that you have done something.
01:36The first two seasons were so big.
01:38Their music was big.
01:39But, the third season is big.
01:41The third season is also big.
01:42So, the music is also appreciated.
01:44So, it's a good thing for me.
01:45You created our opening title of music.
01:48Which basically,
01:49Season 3 is phonic identity set.
01:51So, after season 3,
01:53How did you adopt a new musical perspective for this season 3?
01:59See,
02:00There was no different musical perspective.
02:02The show was unique.
02:03Because it was set in Nagaland.
02:04So, for me,
02:05As a composer,
02:06For me,
02:07It was icing on the cake.
02:09Because,
02:10The instruments that I've never heard.
02:12I'm in a movie.
02:13I played a record.
02:14To record them,
02:15I think,
02:16It was an interesting thing.
02:17So, I did that.
02:18And,
02:19I incorporated it into theme music.
02:21So,
02:22That was Sonic NDD.
02:23So,
02:24It was organically,
02:26The demand was also.
02:28It happened and it happened.
02:29It was great.
02:30And it was good.
02:31How did you become a creative conversation with the series?
02:33With Raj and DK sir, as I have told you, there is a third collaboration already we have that repo
02:46and I have so much fun with them because they give you an open shot
02:52they say you experiment you know it's like a canvas
02:55they tell you their vibe and they tell you what they want and all that
02:58but then after that they open you as a composer to experiment
03:02see any music is a collaborative you know
03:05this is a collaboration between the makers and the composer
03:08so that collaboration was always there
03:10I sent something, they said something, they said something
03:13but it is that they gave me a lot of freedom to compose
03:17the title was composed but after some moment you felt like this is the sound
03:27and then when I heard the instrument, the log drum that I heard is so great
03:33it's a big instrument, it's a big rock of 10 feet, it's a big rock of 10 feet
03:37which is hollow from inside, it's 10 people are playing
03:41so that sound was so great, I never heard that sound
03:44so I thought, what sound is this sound, you know
03:47it's something which is, I didn't hear this sound
03:51when I didn't hear it, I thought it was a lot of new
03:54and it has its own sound
03:56and then they have a horn, it's like shank
03:58but it's a bit different from shank
04:01it's like a horn, wind instrument
04:03that I thought it was a lot of fun
04:04it comes in the theme
04:06so I thought these two instruments
04:09I thought it was quite unique
04:10and it can give a wife in the show
04:14Sir, I thought we had a single papa
04:16that we had a musical universe built here
04:19and a song plus background music
04:21and you handled it completely
04:23so how do you balance your work flow, song and score
04:25and score balance?
04:27see, these are different things
04:29although I personally believe
04:31that one person is very good
04:33like in the old days
04:34R.D. Burman has also played the music
04:36and the score of the show
04:37so what happens
04:39when you are making it
04:40you know that this is my universe
04:42I have made its sonic identity
04:43so when you are making it
04:45you keep it from the same perspective
04:46but when you are making it
04:48but when you are making it
04:49when you compose the songs
04:50the songs are more like storytelling
04:52versus when you are making it
04:54versus when you are making it
04:55so the score is to
04:56it's not to show your talent
04:58that you are making it
05:00it is to highlight certain scenes
05:02and certain emotions
05:03so the score is a different understanding
05:05but the totality
05:07if there is a film or a show
05:09then you will know that
05:10I have to keep it
05:11I have to keep it
05:12or I have to use the sound
05:13I have to use it
05:14so when you are making it
05:15so when you are making it
05:16you are making it
05:17it will help you
05:18to build a sound
05:19Sir, the emotional range
05:21is quite wide
05:22romance, drama, drama
05:24introspection
05:25and how do you feel
05:27in sad fact
05:28through your film
05:29how do you feel
05:30about the protagonist's journey
05:32and how do you feel
05:33about the journey
05:34see
05:35this show
05:36is releasing on 12th December
05:37this show is so unique
05:38and I think
05:40there are so many emotions
05:41and fun
05:42as you said
05:43romantic
05:44somewhere
05:45a little bit of romance
05:46somewhere
05:47it is
05:48actually
05:49it is a love story
05:50between the father and the son
05:51so
05:52that love story
05:53that emotion is there
05:55you know
05:56dancing
05:57because Kunal's character is fun
05:59my song has released
06:00Gigi's kindness
06:01and
06:03already
06:04it is so fun
06:05it is so fun
06:06it is so fun
06:07emotion
06:08so the other songs
06:09were like situations
06:10for me
06:11that
06:12you know
06:13that I had to create
06:14different ways
06:15fun sequences
06:16that sequences
06:17were so fun
06:18unique
06:19where there was emotion
06:20where there was drama
06:21the songs
06:22was organic
06:23process
06:24that you have to create
06:25that sequence
06:26so the script
06:27was so good
06:28and the storytelling
06:29was so good
06:30that the songs
06:31are good
06:32from the background score
06:33what advantage of a composer
06:35is that the musical language
06:37is cohesive
06:38you have to design this
06:39or design this
06:41or design it
06:42no
06:43when you know
06:44that I score
06:45and I make songs
06:46you make a palette
06:47like
06:48our main song
06:49which is the main song
06:52between the father and the son
06:54so that song
06:55composed first
06:56when that song
06:57composed
06:58then
06:59we played that melody
07:00we played that melody
07:01because that is a very strong melody
07:03so
07:04when you know
07:05that you are going to do
07:06both things
07:07you also see the song
07:08as a composer
07:09you know
07:10as a composer
07:11that is something
07:12when you are doing both the things
07:14that is something
07:15when you are doing both the things
07:16that is an effort
07:17as a composer
07:18you know
07:19this music
07:20which song
07:21or score
07:22moment
07:23you personally
07:24is the most special
07:25as a composer
07:26as a composer
07:27all of your children
07:28are special
07:29all of you know
07:30creations
07:31but
07:32if I can see
07:33the most special song
07:34this
07:35show
07:36that is the main song
07:38which is
07:39that is the main song
07:40which is
07:41Ajab
07:43Ajab
07:44yeah Ishq
07:45because that song
07:46since I am also a father
07:47you know
07:48I can connect with my daughter
07:49with my son
07:50so
07:51that song
07:52is between
07:53it's a relationship song
07:54it's a love song
07:55between you and
07:56your daughter
07:57or son
07:58so that song
07:59was very close for me
08:00and that song
08:01was my first song
08:02that I made Ishroka
08:03when you create
08:04a new world
08:05sonic identity
08:06like a family man
08:07like a spider
08:08like a spider
08:09like a father
08:10like a father
08:11like a world building
08:12like a father
08:13like a father
08:14how did you start
08:15when you heard
08:16something
08:17in your mind
08:18in your mind
08:19maybe
08:20in any way
08:21I think
08:22that ideas
08:23come from
08:24that energy
08:25universal energy
08:26universal energy
08:27gives you ideas
08:28so
08:29in your mind
08:30you are thinking about it
08:31and one day the idea comes in
08:32whether you are driving
08:33whether you are
08:34you know
08:35anywhere you are eating
08:36it's not necessary
08:37that I will sit in the studio
08:38and the idea will come
08:39and the melody will come
08:40anywhere
08:41it can come
08:42but in your mind
08:43it's very necessary to be
08:44in your mind
08:45it's very necessary to be
08:46with me
08:47you switch between different journals
08:48you switch between
08:49folk
08:50cinematic
08:51atmospheric
08:52emotions
08:53how do you ensure that
08:54your signature voice
08:55in your project
08:56will be present
08:57so
08:58I don't try desperately
08:59that
09:00I will present you
09:01that
09:02I have a musical understanding
09:03and a musical style
09:04and
09:05every composer
09:06has a sense of
09:07but
09:08in my mind
09:09I will try
09:10what is better for the film
09:13or the show
09:14rather than me coming ahead
09:15whenever we are
09:16composing for any
09:17you know
09:18cinema medium
09:19which is an audio-visual medium
09:20so
09:21in that
09:22my target
09:23is
09:24that
09:25show
09:26or the film
09:27or the moment
09:28rather than
09:29I am
09:30showing myself
09:31personal
09:32or something
09:33that
09:34in that time
09:35I have to highlight
09:36that emotion
09:37so I have a special
09:38challenge
09:39that
09:40happens
09:41if I am creating something
09:42that has to be my vibe
09:44that will happen
09:45but
09:46the challenge
09:47is that
09:48whatever situation
09:49can justify
09:50it
09:51among
09:52the music world
09:53we can see

11:01you
11:02do
11:03original create yourself
11:05if you are sitting here with God's grace
11:08as an artist, you have an expression
11:11if I say any other expression, then it won't be my expression
11:14so you have to try your expression
11:17rather than copying from somewhere
11:33you have to try your expression
11:35or do you have to try your expression
11:37or do you have to try your expression
11:39see, this is a common question
11:41every other person is asking
11:43because if any technology comes
11:45we think that this will get worse
11:47before the music was done
11:49the musicians came, everyone came
11:51it was a very good vibe
11:53then the technology came, the tapes came
11:55then the digital came
11:58today we are making music on software
12:00so I think technology is coming
12:03somewhere else
12:04some of the things
12:06people's involvement is less
12:08but if you think technology
12:10as an artist, I think it is a tool
12:14whether it is AI
12:17I think the songs are not good
12:20because what are we missing
12:22because the songs will be made
12:24but where is the human emotion
12:26see, song is about expression
12:28that it is my expression
12:30that it is not my expression
12:32so what it lacks is
12:34is emotion and expression
12:36songs will be made
12:38but I think that
12:40making songs
12:42then where is the artist
12:43and I think that
12:44no artist will do that
12:45it is more of a helping hand
12:47sometimes
12:48it is more of a creative block
12:49for you to listen
12:51like we listen to songs
12:52as a tool
12:53you can use it
12:55I have not used it
12:57but I think eventually
12:59technology grows
13:00you have to be
13:01with the technology
13:02I am not against
13:03any kind of technology
13:04if we use it wisely
13:05if we use it
13:06in which way
13:07if we use it
13:08then no technology
13:09doesn't do anything
13:10anywhere
13:11technology is there
13:12to help you
13:13so if we look at helping
13:14if we are going
13:15if we use it
13:16to help you
13:17you can use it
13:18to help you
13:19to help you
13:20What should you do with your struggles and how you overcome it?
13:50But I think that today's date is so great. We are so technologically advanced.
13:55We have all those things that you need to bring in the future.
13:59You just need to sing. As an artist, you just need to sing.
14:02If you have content, you have mobile. You have Instagram. You have YouTube. You have Spotify.
14:08There are so many mediums you have. You make a song and put it.
14:12You know, just post your song out there and the rest of God's hands, people's hands, how to sing.
14:16So, don't sit at home and sit at home. You have to make a song. Just make a song. Go out there.
14:25And then, see how it is.
14:27One thing is that we also participate in the shows and participants.
14:34So, it seems that the original songs are the same as Hindi songs.
14:43But sometimes, it's like this. Sometimes, it's like this. Sometimes, it's like this.
14:48Sometimes, it's like this. Sometimes, it's like AI through their sounds.
14:52And then, it's like presents.
14:54So, it's like a good version of it.
14:56See, AI through to you, Autotune has been there for the longest time.
14:59I think that it's Autotune, but it's also a tool.
15:03I think that it's like a singer.
15:06Now, it's like human error in singing. We're all good singers.
15:10Today, the music is so perfect that it will be perfect.
15:13Autotune is a tool to make it sound better.
15:16It doesn't make the sound sound sound.
15:19But if you have a little bit above it, you use it.
15:23And you use it very intelligently.
15:25Autotune is a very good tool.
15:27So, I think these are all the tools.
15:29The rest of the music, you need to make the music first and make it sound better.
15:33The technology is very easy.
15:35But I say that learning is very important.
15:38That learning is very important.
15:44Rather than depending on AI or something else.
15:46You need to do it.
15:48The future project is very interesting.
15:55I'm very happy.
15:56The next year, Amazon's film is also coming.
16:00I have made another Netflix film.
16:02There is a theatrical release.
16:04I will not say the name right now.
16:08Because what happens?
16:09There are tentative names.
16:10There are some other names in the release.
16:12So, there are 3-4 good projects that are also coming.
16:14With RajDee, there is also another project.
16:16So, I think 4-5 good projects are lined up already.
16:19I'm working on some of them.
16:21So, for the next year, there are also good releases for me.
16:24When you have composed this song,
16:27What was your reaction to Manoj Ji?
16:31Or what was your reaction to Manoj Ji?
16:33See, everybody loved it.
16:35Manoj Ji was talking directly to Manoj Ji.
16:38Because as a composer, we usually tend to communicate with the makers.
16:43We talk more about the makers.
16:45Like, RajDee was talking about me.
16:47But, when I was talking to Manoj Ji,
16:49Everyone liked the theme music.
16:51Everybody was appreciating the theme.
16:53I think, it's a good one.
16:55What message do you think of the fans?
16:58The message is that you listen to the songs.
17:00You listen to the good music.
17:01I think you listen to me.
17:02You listen to me.
17:03You listen to me.
17:04But it's important that you listen to the good music.
17:06You share the good music.
17:07You listen to me.
17:08You listen to me.
17:09You listen to me.
17:10You listen to me.
