00:00Psychic special abilities
00:08Hello. Thank you for watching today.
00:17Today's topic is Chojin Rock.
00:20This film, Superhuman Rock, depicts the daily life of a psychic who, despite his appearance as a young boy, has been living forever, but who is targeted by those in power and destined to fight because of his special powers.
00:40Now, let's take a look at this work.
00:43Chojin Locke is based on a novel by Yuki Hijiri and was released in theaters in 1984.
00:53The story begins with Ruyuyamaki, the head of the Galactic Federation Intelligence Agency, analyzing Locke's information and data, including the video.
01:04He was amazed at his abilities and his boyish appearance, unchanged for hundreds of years, and lamented the battles he had been involved in and the wars that would continue forever.
01:18Later, Yamaki, who became interested in Locke, checked out Locke's location and visited the planet, where he met Locke tending sheep.
01:28At first, Rock ignores Yamaki, but after he helps the sheep escape, he begins to listen to the reason he asks.
01:38Yamaki then tells him that the billionaire Lady Khan has opened a school to train psychics, or espers.
01:49Rock confesses that he had received a direct request from her to participate in the founding of a millennium kingdom called Millennium, but had declined.
01:59Upon hearing this, Yamaki asks Rock to help him fight against Lady Khan's plot, but Rock, hesitant to be used as an esper again, refuses to train him.
02:13Still, Yamaki continues to persuade him, but when he realizes Rock's firm resolve, he has no choice but to return to the hotel, where a bomb planted in the room suddenly explodes.
02:26Yamaki somehow manages to survive the explosion, but then a blind spot appears and, just as he is about to finish him off, Rock rushes in with a flash of light.
02:38After using his psychic powers to easily defeat Bukaku, who is surprised by Locke's appearance and saving Yamaki, he initially refuses to train him, but after thinking about the espers who are used and sacrificed, he changes his mind and agrees to fight alongside him against Lady Khan.
02:56For Rock, who had hoped to live in peace, Yamaki's decision to take a step that Rock was so happy about meant throwing himself into the flames of war once again, and Rock was there, ready to set out on his journey.
03:12Now, let me introduce the main characters.
03:20Locke is the main character of this work and is also known as a superhuman with eternal life.
03:26His psychic powers are extremely advanced, including powerful offensive and healing abilities, as well as the ability to learn and absorb the psychic powers of his opponents, making him a menacing presence that is invincible in combat.
03:44Therefore, while he has the power to change the history of the galaxy, he hates authority and the privileged class and wishes to live as an ordinary human being.
03:54Furthermore, when pushed to the limit, his combat abilities become so severe that he loses the ability to distinguish between friend and foe, becoming a powerful warrior, and at the same time, gaining enough power to destroy a planet. Therefore, Locke chose to live in the countryside, where there were fewer people, in order to minimize damage.
04:16Additionally, they can change their appearance, gender, and age at will in order to live in secret.
04:25On the other hand, many episodes vividly depicted the mental hardships they faced when their abilities led them into fateful battles, resulting in their comrades and loved ones being injured or killed.
04:43Ryu Yamaki is the youngest director of the Galactic Federation Intelligence Agency, and in this work he fights alongside Locke.
04:55While Locke has often been hostile to the Galactic Federation military in the past, they have managed to build a friendly cooperative relationship with him.
05:05At first, he was afraid of Locke because he himself is not a psychic, but there are also scenes where he is surprised and confused by Locke's behavior as a human.
05:18During the play, he also takes in the beautiful woman Jessica, who has lost her memory, and even though he finds out that she was sent by Lady Khan, he continues to love her.
05:29Jessica Warlin was a student at the Esper training school founded by Lady Khan, but after undergoing ESP development training, she was sent to the Galactic Federation military in order to kill Locke.
05:44While he possesses the special psychic power of psychic decomposition, he hates Locke and tries to kill him after Locke implanted a false memory of him killing his parents.
05:56However, while infiltrating the Galactic Federation Army, he becomes acquainted with Yamaki and Koinaka, who are supposed to be his enemies. He refuses to carry out his mission and uses his psychic decomposition powers on himself, causing him to become engulfed in water.
06:12Vice Admiral Bell was the commander of the Galactic Federation's Maud Base on the planet Seren, and controlled the entire Sanctuary via computer.
06:21He is also a powerful psychic, or Esper, and fights Cornelia, the Esper Squad, and Jessica in her first sortie, but is defeated by Jessica's psychic powers and dies.
06:37Squid then becomes a character who opposes Rock.
06:42Lady Khan was a wealthy man who owned several large corporations across the galaxy, and was an ambitious man who aimed to found the Millennium, or Millennium Kingdom, but he had disappeared since a mysterious accident 15 years ago.
06:58He declares that Millennium is a country invested in by espers, or people with psychic powers, and gathers espers to use as his loyal tools. However, when Locke refuses to cooperate with the Millennium Plan, he plans to assassinate him, but at the end of the story, he shows his true colors to Locke.
07:20Cornell and Prim were not only psychics, but also Millennium's investors and Jessica's tutors.
07:30In the founding of Millennium, which is meant to be a haven for discriminated against espers, he agrees with Lady Khan and, as the captain of the esper unit, opposes Locke and the Galactic Federation Army. However, towards the end of the story, he is shocked to learn Lady Khan's true identity and betrayal.
07:52The ESPers are the investors who work under Cornell and his command, and throughout the film they are greeted by Rock, Yamaki, and Jessica.
08:04Initially, he tries to kill Locke multiple times together with Cornell and others, but in the final battle on Asteroid Khan, he finds out that he has been deceived by Lady Khan and ends up fighting alongside Locke.
08:18Professor Ramses was the headmaster of the esper training school founded by Lady Khan on the planet Dinar, and he produced espers for use in the Millennium Project.
08:31In the film, under Lady Khan's orders, he quickly develops Jessica into an investment, but is defeated in a battle with Locke and dies.
08:40Virgin Mother Lu is the Throne of the Virgin Mother, a group of espers who serve Lady Khan in Asteroid Khan, Millennium's home base.
08:52They existed in a special area like a flower garden and engaged in anti-social activities, but after Lady Khan's disappearance, they became jealous of Jessica, who was living happily with Yamaki, and developed an intense hatred for her.
09:05As an aside, the history of this work, Chojin Locke, is different from other works in that it has been a writing journey that could be described as a strange fate, involving the original author, Hijiri Yuki.
09:21Writing for Chojin Rock began in a fanzine in 1967, and he continued to write irregularly thereafter, appearing in over 10 publications. While it has had its ups and downs, it has become a long-running work that has continued for over 50 years.
09:39During its long serialization, it was supported by many readers, and in Shonen King, a magazine with a major history of writing and publishing, it was at the center of the science fiction manga that readers were highly recommended, along with Galaxy Express 3-9.
09:57After the release of the theatrical version, the original animations Chojin Rock: Lord Leon were released in 1989 and Chojin Rock: New World Squadron in 1991, and the series was adapted into radio dramas on Nippon Broadcasting System and Nippon Cultural Broadcasting, further expanding the fan base.
10:20However, during and after the writing of this work, it suffered some unfortunate setbacks, including the collapse of many publications, including Shonen King, and the bankruptcy of many publishers.
10:36Nevertheless, he endured the adversity and continued to write new stories after Shonen King, and even after 2000 it was published in a specialized magazine called Chojin Rock Special, and continued to be published in Young King Ours and Comic Flapper.
10:56This work has been loved by readers of all generations for over 50 years, but with the passing of its original author, Hijiri Yukishi, in 2022, his long writing career will come to an end.
11:13In addition, with the death of the original author, many of the mysteries and details of the setting will remain unknown, and the series will be the last written work without a clear final episode. However, the eternal Superman Rock will continue to live on in the hearts of all readers.
11:37So, here comes the conclusion of this story.
11:41Finally, Rock and Yamaki arrive at Lady Khan's base, Asteroid Khan, and together they teleport or teleport into the interior of Asteroid Khan.
11:58After infiltrating the base, the two search for Lady Khan and end up lost in an area covered in blooming flowers, where they find a group of seductive women standing there.
12:11The women are called the Virgin Mary, and Lou, who lies about this, speaks to them, but Yamaki, sensing they are dangerous, uses his gun to try to find out where Lady Khan is.
12:23At that moment, Cornellua, the leader of the esper unit, appears by teleportation, and the situation becomes tense. Locke then tells them that Jessica has used psychic decomposition on him, rendering him unconscious.
12:40Hearing this, Cornelua is confused, but Yamaki, who loves Jessica, attacks her, only to be counterattacked and lose consciousness.
12:52Locke then leaves Yamaki behind and teleports away, trying to find the source of Asteroid Khan's power, but the 80 party leaders stand in his way.
13:06However, after defeating the party leaders and reaching the power source, Cornelua and her esper troops are waiting for them there, but because the power source is nearby, Cornelua and her esper troops are unable to attack using their psychic powers.
13:24However, Locke uses his psychic powers without any regard for the power source, and the esper troops are defeated one after another.
13:33Now alone, Cornelia challenges Rock to a sword fight, but is easily defeated. Rock's psychic powers force her to confess where Lady Khan is.
13:49Locke then heads to the place where she confessed and finally finds Lady Khan, but is shocked at her true identity.
13:57Its true identity is an integrated circuit or a giant computer, and Lady Khan tells Locke that she has abandoned her physical body, digitized all of her information and stored it in the computer, giving her eternal life.
14:15He also tells Locke that if he were to destroy himself, Asteroid Khan would collapse and the 150 espers inside would be sacrificed, but Locke doesn't care and continues attacking the computer.
14:32Meanwhile, Locke senses something is wrong and while destroying the computer, he discovers Lady Khan's true location.
14:45Rock enters the location, only to find an unconscious Yamaki being held hostage, who warns him that if he uses his psychic powers against Lady Khan, Yamaki will be killed.
14:59Furthermore, now that the Galactic Federation Army has learned the location of Asteroid Khan, he suggests abandoning everything and escaping.
15:11He also said that the party leaders, including Cornelia and the esper unit, were no longer of any use and would be eliminated along with Locke, along with Asteroid Khan.
15:21Immediately afterwards, Lady Khan's true form - her brain immersed in culture medium inside a capsule - appears and attacks Locke.
15:32Rock is shocked by what he sees, but with Yamaki being held hostage, he is attacked unilaterally and collapses to the ground bleeding profusely.
15:45Cornelia, who had been hiding and listening to the conversation, appears and realizes that she and her friends have been deceived. In a fit of rage, she destroys Lady Khan's capsule with her psychic powers.
16:01If this happens, Asteroid Khan will fall toward the star K176 and be burned up.
16:12Locke, sensing this, tells Cornelia to gather all the espers inside Asteroid Khan in the power room, then uses his psychic powers to create a barrier around Asteroid Khan.
16:27However, due to his injuries, the barrier is about to disappear, so Locke instructs Cornelia to use the psychic powers of all espers or the heads of the families to lift Asteroid Khan while he heals his injuries.
16:47As he lifts Asteroid Khan with all his might, it suddenly disintegrates, and everything on board disappears except for Rock and his colony.
16:58Furthermore, it is unable to stop its fall and is rapidly approaching the star K176.
17:08At that moment, the rescued Yamaki appears and realizes that the star K176 is composed of high-temperature gas, so he uses the thrust of the Asteroid Khan to crash into the high-temperature gas.
17:22The Asteroid Khan charges in at high speed, but some of Locke's barriers are damaged, so Cornelia, despite being injured, repairs the damage and somehow manages to break through the star K176.
17:40Afterwards, Locke recovers and rescues the injured Cornelia, who, with Locke's help, frees Jessica from the water trap and saves her.
17:52Also, after Jessica recovers from her flooded state, she learns that it was not Locke who killed her parents, but Lady Khan's henchmen who had been spewed onto Locke.
18:08The scene changes and Yamaki returns to Earth, regains consciousness, proposes to the recovered Jessica, and they get married.
18:17Meanwhile, Locke visits Cornelia, who is receiving treatment, but Cornelia's evil memories of Lady Khan have been erased.
18:29Then, when he stops Cornelia in the hallway, he realizes that his own memories have also been erased.
18:35At that moment, a feeling of helplessness runs through Locke's body, and he watches Cornelia's back as she quietly leaves, which is the scene that marks the end of the film.
18:49Now, let's take a look at Rock's performance.

24:12What do you think? Three years before the theatrical release, in 1981, the English title "Rock the Superman" was used and became a hot topic.
24:26Apparently, Superman is a coined word with a stronger meaning than Superman, but it left an impression on me that was just as mysterious as Suppaman from Dr. Slump.
24:37What do you all think?
24:39Well, that's all for now. See you next time. Bye.
