Mumbai has witnessed fresh allegations of milk adulteration, with residents of Andheri West’s Kapaswadi area claiming that synthetic milk is being supplied openly in the locality, posing a serious public health risk.
A viral video, reportedly shot by locals along with a policeman, shows a room filled with milk packets and a man allegedly demonstrating the method used to adulterate milk. Netizens claim the racket has been operating for decades.
Residents allege that chemicals such as detergent, urea, soap solution and refined oil are mixed with water to dilute original milk and nearly double the quantity. They also claim genuine dairy packets are diverted to private locations, adulterated, repacked and then supplied to households. Medical experts warn that prolonged consumption of adulterated milk can cause kidney and liver damage, growth issues in children and other health complications.
The allegations have raised questions over monitoring by the BMC, food safety authorities and the Mumbai Police. Locals have demanded immediate inspections and strict action.
So far, there has been no official response from civic or food safety agencies. Further verification is awaited.
