02:44I did the same thing when I was a child.
02:48Christmas was my favourite holiday, and it still is.
02:56What was Christmas like when you were a kid, Grandpa David?
02:59Oh, we didn't have the flashy lights and fancy gizmos that you kids have nowadays.
03:05It was much, much simpler.

07:09O Israel
07:17You see, easy and simple and classic.
07:46Yeah, I guess
07:48I think Christmas is better right now though
07:51Oh? And why is that?
07:53Oh, all the presents and the gifts
07:55Christmas lights, the tree and the stockings
07:58You do know though
08:00that Christmas is about more than just the material things, right?
08:03Hmm, I suppose
08:04But they certainly help
08:06I mean, I know what I want for Christmas
08:08and I sure hope I get it
08:09Oh, and what is it that you asked for?
08:12Well, here's my list
08:15All my favourite things
08:17Green drops on roses and whiskers on kittens
08:26Like copper kettles and woolen mittens
08:31Brown paper packages tied up with strings
08:36These are a few of my favourite things
08:41Green colour ponies and crisp apple strudels
08:46Doorbells and sleigh bells with schnitzel with noodles
08:49Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
08:53These are a few of my favourite things
08:56When the doll bites
08:58When the beast turns
09:00When I'm feeling sad
09:02I simply remember my favourite things
09:06Then I don't feel so bad
09:14Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
09:25Bright copper kettles and woolen mittens
09:28Brown paper packages tied up with strings
09:32These are a few of my favourite things
09:35When the doll bites
09:37When the beast sings
09:38When I'm feeling sad
09:41I simply remember my favourite things
09:45Then I don't feel so bad
09:49Well, that's certainly quite a list
10:10Right?
10:10It's perfect
10:11This has always been my favourite part of Christmas
10:23The candles?
10:24Well, not exactly
10:26You see that?
10:27That's a symbol of the greatest story ever told
10:30What story is that?
10:32The story of Jesus
10:33Oh, I learned about that in Sunday school
10:36Did you now?
10:37Yes, I even memorised some of it
10:40The true light
10:41Which gives light to everyone
10:43Was coming into the world
10:45Joy to the world
11:06The Lord is gone

12:22Oh, joy to the world
12:26The Savior reigns
12:30Let men, the songs imply
12:34While fields and clouds
12:40While tears and blades
12:44Repeat the sounding joy

16:08Sweetly singing
16:10Sweetly singing
16:10Lord, the praise
16:13And the mountains here in light
16:20Echoing their joy astray
16:26Angels, let your song begin
16:32Oh, come on
17:02Oh, come Emmanuel

20:35we celebrate it because it's the start of something that completely changed history
20:41and our lives he not only came to save the world but to show love mercy and give forgiveness to
20:49each and every one of us oh i see so because jesus was born the world changed exactly jesus came to

23:56Gloria
23:58Out of joy
24:04And I
24:10See you next week.
24:40See you next week.
25:10See you next week.
25:40December 24th, 1906, the first radio transmission ever made was made.
25:49I was thinking about this week.
25:52If the first radio transmission was made in today's age and in today's culture, would it be the same?
26:00I think if it was made today, there would be no Christianity in it, be no God in it, be no Jesus in it.
26:07It would probably be Kendrick Lamar talking about some chord A minor, Cardi B singing something ridiculous.
26:15It might be political.
26:17It might be Hollywood telling us what we should do, what we should believe.
26:22It wouldn't be any Bible.
26:26It wouldn't be anything that could give us a better life.
26:30But in 1906, Silent Night was played for the first time over the radio airwaves.
26:37And they read from the Bible the story of the angels showing up, talking about Jesus.
26:47Goodwill to all men is how it ended.
26:51And if you go back to 1906, America was different.
27:01Marriages, 90% of them lasted, 1906.
27:0690% of the homes had dead in it.
27:1190% of the homes were Christians.
27:14It's weird how all those statistics line up like that.
27:19Depression was pretty close to non-existent at the time.
27:23It was 1%.
27:24Today it's significantly higher.
27:29Somewhere around eight times higher.
27:32Teenage pregnancy, same thing, nearly non-existent at the time.
27:35Because people just waited until they got married.
27:37They seem to do things God's way.
27:40It's about nine times higher today.
27:43You know, the average child is born.
27:4540% of all the children born in America are born in homes that are not married.
27:51Interesting how in just 100 plus years, things have changed so dramatically.
27:58What is the difference?
27:59What is the difference in today and then?
28:02Because, I mean, today we got super cool iPhones and we got 80-inch TVs.
28:07We got Taco Bell.
28:09We got some of the great things in life.
28:15The only difference you'll find is we decided that we would take God out of this nation.
28:20Now, about 60% say they're Christian.
28:26Only about 25% actually attend church regularly.
28:31And we wonder why as a nation we struggle in so many different areas and why we're divided.
28:36Because we may, in 1910, have different political beliefs.
28:40But we could stand together as a country, one nation under God.
28:44Come on, somebody out there.
28:45We could at least agree on that.
28:47We could agree on that.
28:49Agree on biblical principles of how to raise our families and our home.
28:53How to operate life with integrity and character.
28:57And living a life that's not about myself, but others.
29:00It was a time when the community gathered together for each other.
29:04It wasn't today's world where it's all about me.
29:07What can I get out of my relationship?
29:09What I can get out of my job?
29:11What I can get out of my life?
29:12It's all about me.
29:14But we know as Christians, life's not about me.
29:18The best life is about other people.
29:20About finding a way to encourage others, build others up, make other people win, pick them up, whatever it might mean.
29:27That's a great life.
29:30You know, getting America back to where we were, doesn't matter who we elect.
29:37In any of the offices at all, that doesn't change.
29:39We do that every four, eight years.
29:42We're changing everything.
29:43It doesn't change anything.
29:45What changes is for the Christians, for us all, to get back to God's house and show the world what it looks like.
29:54Come on, somebody.
29:55What it looks like.
29:56You know, Jesus came to this earth, not just for our eternity.
30:04That's great.
30:05He did come for us to get saved and have eternity.
30:07But he says, I came so you could have life and life more abundantly.
30:11He came so that we could have a great life.
30:13And the church was birthed out of Christ.
30:16That was what was birthed.
30:17And we were designed by God to once a week gather together.
30:21It's interesting to me that, and you can research this up on your chat, GBT, that even the world studies, Harvard did a study in 2020 on going to church.
30:30Stanford did a study.
30:32Every study that's been done shows that families that go to church once a week have significance, more success in the things that matter in life.
30:41I challenge you, families out there, January.
30:46Say, you know, for January, we're going to go every week.
30:50And then write it down.
30:51What's the difference?
30:53We're happier.
30:54Things seem to be going a little bit better.
30:57We're not struggling in this area or that area.
31:00I challenge you.
31:02Make 2026 different.
31:04The only difference, see, my grandparents and my great-grandparents, horrible lives.
31:11Divorce, abandonment, abuse, everything that you can imagine.
31:14And my parents in one generation changed that because in 1972, they got saved.
31:20And that's cool.
31:20That has secured our eternity.
31:22But we never miss church.
31:2450 years now.
31:2654 years.
31:28We don't miss church.
31:29Even when I'm sick.
31:30But as I go to church, get healed.
31:31We didn't get to be sick.
31:33We went to church.
31:34That's what we did.
31:35And we served in the church.
31:37So I encourage you.
31:38Give her a go.
31:39If I can invite my family to come on up.
31:45I'm going to give you a picture.
31:47And this is what candlelight is about.
31:49It's getting you a picture that the world is dark.
31:52We know that.
31:54The world does worldly things.
31:56But when we live life at a different level, we become a bright light.
32:00When we go off into our workplace and they see something different.
32:03When your neighbors see something different.
32:05My great-grandmother on her deathbed, who was an atheist to the core, said, I want to see Maureen.
32:14That's my mom.
32:16My mom had only been saved for about a year at that time.
32:18She said, there's something different about you and I want to know before I die.
32:22My mom said, Jesus Christ.
32:23And led her to the Lord literally minutes before she died.
32:26Interesting.
32:29It was just, notice something different about her.
32:32And that's what we are.
32:33We are to be a light unto the world.
32:36That when somebody gets around you, they see something different.
32:39There's something different about you.
32:41Everybody's got your candles?
32:42Heath, you've got a candle too, because we've got to demonstrate.
32:48All right.
32:49This is the little bit of early demonstration that we do.
32:52Very important stuff.
32:54So once you have fire, very important that you do not have, get it too close to the person in front of you.
33:00Because you do not know how much Aquanet is in the hair.
33:03Number two, you don't take the lit candle and dip it on the unlit, because then you put wax in their lap instead.
33:10The unlit candle always goes into the lit candle.
33:21You'll notice as they bring the lights down, the lights begin to, you all want fire?
33:26I have fire.
33:29Come get fire.
33:33There we go.
33:38Thank you, my friend.
33:44You'll see the fire begin to spread.
33:56You see how quickly light spreads?
34:00It's a dark world.
34:03But you were designed by God to be a bright light.
34:07As we sing, you can hold up your candle.
34:10Let's sing.
34:11Holy night, holy night, holy night.
34:19All is calm, all is bright.
34:28Yeah, holy night.
34:29But you are browser, Adam.
34:33Oh, have you seen this story?
34:47This is the dead.
34:49And John too.
34:50Sleeping, sleeping, heavenly moon.
35:01Hold your candles up.
35:02Silent night, falling night.
35:13All is calm, all is bright.
35:23Round yon, virgin, mother and child.
35:33Holy infant so tender and mild.
35:41Sleep in heavenly, baby.
35:51Sleep in heavenly, baby.
36:01Amen.
36:02Amen.
36:06It's interesting that I can see the candle way in the back
36:10just as clearly as I can see the candle right here.
36:13That even those that seem a distance in your life are watching.
36:18Is there something different?
36:20There has to be something different about our life
36:22if we're going to make an impact.
36:24They have to see the light of Christ Jesus,
36:26which means that we need to live life at a higher level.
36:30As my amazing brother has always said,
36:33you get saved, you get in the Jesus line,
36:35and we just do life differently than everybody else.
36:38Our relationships are better.
36:40We're happier, more full of peace, more full of joy.
36:44Things seem to go our way
36:45because when I build God's house
36:47and I'm working towards God's purpose,
36:50heaven seems to be working for me.
36:52Amen.
36:53As we're going to blow out our lights,
36:55we don't want to blow the wax on the person in front of us.
36:58Hand up and give it a little.
37:06We close all of our services with the most important part,
37:11making sure everybody in this room is saved.
37:14If you don't mind, bow your heads, close your eyes.
37:18If you're here tonight and you don't know
37:19Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior,
37:22let me give you that opportunity.
37:24It's not hard.
37:24I know that oftentimes religion's got in there
37:27and makes it sound like it's really hard and difficult.
37:29You got to jump through a whole bunch of hoops
37:30and somehow you got to be perfect.
37:33But Ephesians bears out the fact
37:36that we're saved by grace through faith.
37:38What does that mean?
37:39It means that I'm saved because I believe
37:41that Jesus died on the cross
37:42and was raised from the dead for my sins.
37:44Jesus paid the price for all of your sins.
37:47Anytime you add any work to it,
37:51then Jesus didn't need to die.
37:53Anytime you have, well, you have to do this,
37:54through that and you have your little checklist.
37:56That doesn't, that's not biblical.
37:58Bible does not bear that out.
37:59So we can secure your eternity
38:01like my mom was able to do
38:03with my great-grandmother in just one prayer.
38:07Say this out loud with me, please.
38:09Everybody out loud so nobody's embarrassed.
38:11Say this, believe it, you have it.
38:12Everybody out loud.
38:12Dear Father, I ask you right now,
38:17forgive me of all of my sins.
38:19I ask you, dear Jesus, come into my life.
38:25Be my Lord and my Savior.
38:28I believe that Jesus died on the cross
38:33for all my sins.
38:35I was raised from the dead.
38:37In Jesus' name, amen.
38:42Everybody live here.
38:44If you said that prayer tonight,
38:45we have a free Bible for you.
38:47You can find any of the ushers.
38:48You can find me.
38:49Go to the help desk.
38:50We'd like to give you a Bible absolutely free.
38:53And your next step is water baptism.
38:55And you can sign up for that.
38:56Water baptism is the first Sunday of every month.
39:00And it's just a really neat way
39:03to take that next step in Christianity.
39:08You may stand with us as we close in prayer.
39:15There's an Anderson tradition.
39:18It goes back to the old Lutheran church
39:19that my great-grandmother helped build
39:21in winter Wisconsin.
39:23Population 494 people as of today.
39:27Every Christmas candlelight service,
39:30they would hand out little orange slices.
39:33And Little Lutheran Bible Church
39:35has been doing that
39:35since we came around in 1986.
39:39So in the foyer on your way out,
39:40kids, grab some orange slices
39:43as we kind of go back to that tradition
39:47that goes all the way back into the 40s
39:50and be a part of that.
39:52And make your own traditions, of course, tonight.
39:55Make some great memories.
39:58Remembering that Christmas is all about
40:00what God had done for us.
