00:00:00Finding me here.
00:00:08We're about to play a six-day game of hide-and-seek across the UK.
00:00:11Right now, we're the Seekers, and we're starting in London.
00:00:13Well, I had four hours to get to...
00:00:16Well, I mean, I'm not going to tell you where I am.
00:00:19It's hide-and-seek.
00:00:20I hide, and then you don't...
00:00:22You don't know where I am.
00:00:23You have to figure it out.
00:00:25Welcome to our six-day game of hide-and-seek across the United Kingdom.
00:00:29The goal of this game is simple.
00:00:31Hide for as long as you can, without being found.
00:00:34Right now, Ben and I are starting in London as the Seekers,
00:00:36while the first hider, Adam,
00:00:38had four hours to find a hiding spot anywhere else in the UK.
00:00:41In order to find him, we'll have to piece together information about his location
00:00:44using these 62 questions in our question book.
00:00:48Adam has to answer these questions truthfully,
00:00:50but in exchange, he'll get to draw cards from the Hider deck,
00:00:53giving him big advantages like time bonuses or curses that he can use to slow us down.
00:00:58Once we find Adam, positions will rotate,
00:01:00and it will be someone else's turn to hide.
00:01:02After the end of six days, the player with the longest single hiding run wins.
00:01:06We'll go over all the nitty-gritty rules later.
00:01:09For now, Adam's clock is ticking,
00:01:11so Ben and I need to look at our map and figure out what to ask
00:01:13so we can start moving in Adam's direction.
00:01:16What does the UK look like, Ben?
00:01:18Adam is somewhere in here.
00:01:20I think he's here.
00:01:24It is 11 a.m., which means that we should be expecting our first question any minute now.
00:01:29I would say number one thing that I'm worried about
00:01:31is that they figure out too early that I'm on the coast.
00:01:35There are a few different questions they could ask that could tell them that,
00:01:39so I think we just really have to hope that they wait a little bit
00:01:41before they ask anything in that realm.
00:01:45Let's go into town, shall we?
00:01:47We should probably ask a question because we're burning time.
00:01:49Yes, okay. Well, there's many questions we can ask.
00:01:52Oh, in fact, we've got our little investigation book with all of our questions.
00:01:58So before we ask our first question, I should explain what kind of questions we can ask.
00:02:02In this game, our questions are broken up into six simple tools.
00:02:06Matching questions allow us to check whether something about our location
00:02:08is the same or different from Adam's,
00:02:11like is his region the same as ours,
00:02:13is his nearest commercial airport the same as ours, things like that.
00:02:16Measuring questions are similar,
00:02:17but they allow us to check whether something is closer to or further from Adam than it is from us,
00:02:22like is he closer to an international border,
00:02:24is he closer to a coastline, etc.
00:02:26The thermometer allows us to ask whether we're hotter or colder to Adam's location
00:02:30after we've traveled a certain distance.
00:02:31The radar can check whether Adam is or isn't within a certain distance of us.
00:02:35And photo questions allow us to ask Adam for a photo of something,
00:02:38like his train platform or the tallest mountain he can see.
00:02:41Finally, we've got tentacles,
00:02:43a special tool for dealing with denser areas that we can explain later.
00:02:47There's a lot of ways we can approach this,
00:02:49but we've got to figure out a strategy quickly.
00:02:51I don't know exactly what,
00:02:53because we're kind of starting in a weird place
00:02:55where we're like all the way at the bottom of the map.
00:02:57Yeah, but there is plenty west and south of here.
00:03:00I mean, this would be risky,
00:03:02but we could be like, are you in the same country as us?
00:03:04Or is it country? Is England a country?
00:03:06Yeah.
00:03:07What is the UK?
00:03:08It's a country of countries.
00:03:10Okay, that is confusing.
00:03:12If he is in another country, it's almost certainly Wales.
00:03:15It's almost certainly Wales.
00:03:16Because he had four hours.
00:03:18He could theoretically be in Scotland,
00:03:21but only the tiniest bit.
00:03:23It either tells us immediately that he's almost certainly in Wales,
00:03:27or it knocks out all of Wales,
00:03:29which is still pretty good.
00:03:30That's pretty good, yeah.
00:03:31It's a risky first question.
00:03:33Especially considering that I think we both agree
00:03:35his first instinct would be to go to Wales,
00:03:37because Wales is cool.
00:03:38Wales is cool.
00:03:38And England is?
00:03:40Way less cool than Wales.
00:03:42All right.
00:03:42Look, I like starting with a risky question.
00:03:46Let's ask him if he's in the same country as us.
00:03:48Are you in England, Adam Chase?
00:03:53Oh.
00:03:55Folks, we have gotten our first question.
00:03:58They would like to know if I'm in the same country as them.
00:04:01Tell you what.
00:04:02I was really tempted to go to either Wales or Scotland.
00:04:06But I thought that this would be one of the first questions they asked.
00:04:11And so I resisted that urge.
00:04:12I am, in fact, in jolly old England.
00:04:15Okay, we've got our answer.
00:04:16Are you ready?
00:04:17He is in England.
00:04:18He is in England.
00:04:19Oh, I don't want to stay in England longer.
00:04:21Look, we can forget about Scotland.
00:04:23We can forget about Wales.
00:04:25England.
00:04:26Okay, so we probably want something to give us direction soon.
00:04:29Let me take out the map again.
00:04:31We're right about here.
00:04:32I would love to be able to split the map kind of diagonally like this.
00:04:36So you're thinking like a thermometer-style thing?
00:04:38Yeah, I think if we could find the right station to go to, of course, and I don't know if we've explained this yet, but there's currently a tube strike in London, which is epic.
00:04:49We support unions, except for right now when they are screwing us because they're in cahoots with Team Adam.
00:04:57And now we need to draw our cards.
00:05:01Because they asked a matching question, I get to look at the top three cards and then pick my favorite.
00:05:05And awesome.
00:05:09Awesome way to start the season.
00:05:19So really quick, this card that Adam just pulled is a curse.
00:05:21This is a special kind of card that Adam can keep in his hand and play against us whenever he thinks it would be most advantageous.
00:05:28The one he just pulled prevents Ben and I from asking any more questions until we've successfully completed a mini-game of hide-and-seek ourselves.
00:05:35Curses, though, always have a casting cost.
00:05:38This card can only be played when Ben and I are off transit and away from a train station.
00:05:42In this game, choosing the right curses and casting them at the right time can be the key to getting a winning run.
00:05:49Hmm.
00:05:50Curse of the Hide-and-Seek Ception is not a great curse.
00:05:55I think that it is probably ultimately better than a 10-minute bonus.
00:06:00So I am going to keep it.
00:06:02Let's keep going.
00:06:09That's town.
00:06:11All right.
00:06:12For inexplicable reasons, we've walked over here.
00:06:14We've walked over here to give you a little bit of variety.
00:06:17We need to go to a station where if we ask if we're hotter or colder, it splits the map in a diagonal.
00:06:25Peterborough is 50 minutes.
00:06:28Okay.
00:06:28We have eight minutes until that train.
00:06:30Okay, okay.
00:06:31And we're not the quickest station.
00:06:32Shh, shh, shh, shh.
00:06:33You're freaking me out.
00:06:34Okay.
00:06:36Calmly.
00:06:37I don't know.
00:06:38My quick hot take, Ben, is I think it is likelier than not that he is north of here.
00:06:44Yes.
00:06:44Well, because we're...
00:06:46And there's more options.
00:06:48Before we leave, is there a radar we can do that would light?
00:06:52We could do like a 100-mile radar or something.
00:06:55Let's do a 100-mile radar first.
00:06:56So we do a 100-mile radar, and if it's not a hit, we don't get on this train?
00:07:00If it's a hit, we don't get on this train.
00:07:02Okay.
00:07:02What are you guys doing now?
00:07:03I'd say let's do that.
00:07:05And then go to the platform?
00:07:06Yeah, let's go to the platform.
00:07:08Okay.
00:07:09Let's do it.
00:07:12Is it the train to Edinburgh?
00:07:14It is.
00:07:15Okay.
00:07:15So we've done a 100-mile radar just to see if he is like down in this general area because
00:07:21we can do it quickly.
00:07:22If it's a hit, then we get scared and we bail from this train.
00:07:28We stay here because he's not all the way up there.
00:07:30Okay.
00:07:31We should get an answer any second now.
00:07:32Let's maybe start walking.
00:07:34And folks, we have got question two.
00:07:38100-mile radar.
00:07:40Unfortunately, I would say that that is a pretty smart question.
00:07:43I am not within 100 miles of them.
00:07:48But knowing that knocks out a ton of area.
00:07:52So I would say that it was a smart question.
00:07:59Okay.
00:08:00Radar questions.
00:08:01I get to look at the top two.
00:08:05Ooh.
00:08:06Okay.
00:08:09Oh.
00:08:11These are both good.
00:08:13I think I have to take the veto.
00:08:16We're committing then, right?
00:08:18Miss, we get on.
00:08:19Miss, we get on.
00:08:21It's a miss.
00:08:21We get on the train.
00:08:22We go north.
00:08:23It's legit time.
00:08:24It's miss.
00:08:25Okay.
00:08:25We're getting on.
00:08:26All right.
00:08:27He's far away.
00:08:28Let's go north.
00:08:30No?
00:08:30Okay.
00:08:32Oh.
00:08:32I guess we're not getting on.
00:08:35So they do not want us to get on that train.
00:08:38The guy, he screamed so loud.
00:08:40He said that very loud.
00:08:43He's an agent of that.
00:08:44I thought we were going to die.
00:08:46I still like the move of going up to Peterborough with the radar.
00:08:48And we got to wait like 20 minutes.
00:08:52So if we're going to kill this time anyway, we might as well ask questions.
00:08:55Here's a pitch.
00:08:58Coastline.
00:08:59Because the thing about the peninsula, she's skinny.
00:09:04So if he was closer to the coastline, that would cover basically the whole peninsula.
00:09:08Well, what would it look like if, yeah, what would it look like if he's further?
00:09:12Because then that would maybe exclude it.
00:09:14If he was further, then it would exclude the whole peninsula.
00:09:18Except for some very tiny areas.
00:09:20If he's closer, then that's less useful, at least right now.
00:09:25But it still cuts off a lot of the trees.
00:09:27It's a good question.
00:09:28I'd say let's hit it.
00:09:30All right.
00:09:30Do it?
00:09:31Do it.
00:09:32Something?
00:09:32Yeah.
00:09:33Okay.
00:09:34We got a decision to make here.
00:09:37They've just asked if I'm closer to or further from a coastline than them.
00:09:41Now, here is the thing.
00:09:43I could use my veto on that.
00:09:46But if I do, if I were them, I would then request a photo of the largest body of water
00:09:53I can see.
00:09:53And then they would see that I'm fully on the ocean.
00:09:58If I decide to go ahead and answer this question, they'll know I'm kind of near the coast.
00:10:03But not necessarily that close.
00:10:09I think I answer this.
00:10:11Look, you can get mad at me about not using the veto if you want.
00:10:16Okay?
00:10:17But I really do think, I think that if I veto this, it makes them too suspicious.
00:10:23And they ask me for a picture of my largest body of water.
00:10:26Now that question's out of the way.
00:10:29And if they ask for a largest body of water, veto.
00:10:32I don't know what to do.
00:10:34Ooh.
00:10:36Okay, he's closer.
00:10:37That is annoying, although expected.
00:10:39Adam, we're coming for you.
00:10:41What do we do now?
00:10:42Do we still go to Peterborough?
00:10:42I still don't know what to do.
00:10:43We could go to Peterborough.
00:10:45We could go north and ask a thermometer and try and cut off the penzinsula.
00:10:50We've been calling it the penzansula.
00:10:52The penzinsula, which is not a real term.
00:10:55It should be.
00:10:56But it should be.
00:10:57That's our train.
00:10:58Should we get it on?
00:10:59Yeah, let's go.
00:11:01All right.
00:11:02Okay.
00:11:03Let's draw our cards.
00:11:07Curse of the Drained Brain.
00:11:09Choose three questions in different categories.
00:11:12The Seekers cannot ask those questions for the rest of your run.
00:11:15Casting cost?
00:11:16Discard your hand.
00:11:18Okay.
00:11:25Curse of the Gilded Inquiry.
00:11:27Secretly choose one question.
00:11:29If the Seekers ask that question after this curse is played, the question is automatically
00:11:33vetoed and you instantly draw and keep three extra cards.
00:11:37Casting cost?
00:11:38The Seekers' next question is free.
00:11:42I think I go Gilded Inquiry.
00:11:43Because with my veto and this, it's like having two vetoes.
00:11:47Curse of the Drained Brain is kind of like having three vetoes.
00:11:51But they all have to be said beforehand.
00:11:53And they're known.
00:11:54Okay, I'm going to play Gilded Inquiry right now on the coastline question.
00:12:02Sam.
00:12:04We've got a curse.
00:12:06Oh, God.
00:12:07Curse of the Gilded Inquiry.
00:12:09He knows we're here.
00:12:12He could definitely guess the 50 mile.
00:12:16I don't know.
00:12:17I don't know.
00:12:18I think that, like, I would be pretty shocked if he put it on the 50 mile thermometer, which
00:12:23is the worst thermometer.
00:12:26Yeah.
00:12:27So we ask it anyway?
00:12:28I think, yeah.
00:12:29I think that that's...
00:12:31It's a really good curse, though.
00:12:33Yeah, it is.
00:12:34All right.
00:12:35Boarding the train to Peterborough.
00:12:36Oh, are they going somewhere?
00:12:47If they are going somewhere, where?
00:12:49There's, like, three completely different regions that I could be in.
00:12:53I mean, I guess it's possible that you're just going to take a guess.
00:12:55It looks like they're going north.
00:12:58They still haven't eliminated that area southwest, though.
00:13:01I guess they'll have to do that later.
00:13:03We will see.
00:13:03We will see.
00:13:06So, we're just looking at our thermometer options here.
00:13:13The train is moving.
00:13:14The train is moving.
00:13:16We're on.
00:13:16I just wanted to mention.
00:13:17We're on our way.
00:13:18I guess you can't say we don't have a window, but we're on our way.
00:13:21Here's what we're going to do.
00:13:22Sam, let me tell you.
00:13:23We're going to start a 50 mile thermometer once we're passing through Hatfield.
00:13:27Once we do this thermometer, we'll have a pretty good sense if he's north or if he's south.
00:13:34Back row?
00:13:34I didn't know that was what I was getting.
00:13:40It was like a barbecue chicken cook this year, I guess.
00:13:42Let's really get in there.
00:13:43I won't.
00:13:44I don't want the camera touching my food.
00:13:46It's not touching it.
00:13:48Delicious ice cream.
00:13:52Sounds amazing.
00:13:53This is crazy.
00:13:57It's like a totally different texture.
00:14:03It's sort of more like whipped cream.
00:14:08What are they up to?
00:14:09Okay, I'm holding it in to you.
00:14:15Can you find him?
00:14:17Yeah, there he is.
00:14:19All right.
00:14:20We're ending our thermometer here a little bit before Peterborough.
00:14:23If we do find out that we're on her, then we might want to stay on until late.
00:14:29It's stressful.
00:14:30I mean, come on, we have to go on the Ferris wheel, right?
00:14:40Okay, they have finished their thermometer.
00:14:47I could veto this, but if I did, they could just do like a shorter thermometer while they
00:14:57keep going up.
00:14:58So I don't actually think that that's worth it.
00:15:01I don't like it when they do good guesses.
00:15:03But they're not on a Ferris wheel.
00:15:09So who's really winning right now?
00:15:21Come on now.
00:15:24Come on.
00:15:26That's a dissent.
00:15:27Water.
00:15:29Okay.
00:15:30Stay on?
00:15:31I think it makes sense.
00:15:32I think we should stay on until late.
00:15:35I might be here, Morrow.
00:15:43Thanks.
00:15:46All right.
00:15:48It's time to start looking for...
00:15:51Why suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune when Zoltar is here to guide you?
00:15:57Oh my gosh.
00:15:59Zoltar.
00:16:00Am I going to win?
00:16:04I am Zoltar at your service.
00:16:08Hi, Zoltar.
00:16:09Listen closely to my instructions.
00:16:11Okay.
00:16:12Hard work pays off over time.
00:16:15Okay.
00:16:15The laziness, it pays off right now.
00:16:19Sure.
00:16:19Heard my advice.
00:16:21Relax and enjoy yourself today.
00:16:24You deserve it.
00:16:25Okay.
00:16:27I am wise like the owl, patiently waiting for the right time to react to any event.
00:16:32To me, this means that I was right to save my veto.
00:16:35I am wise like the owl, patiently waiting for the right time to react.
00:16:39I am wise like the owl, patiently waiting for the right time to react.
00:16:41We're going to clean up.
00:16:46We have prairie on the map now.
00:16:49Who, who could have anticipated?
00:16:53That's not, no one, no one could have anticipated.
00:16:56This is crazy.
00:16:57Just putting the map away.
00:16:58We're going to look at our phones.
00:16:59Okay.
00:17:04I think that, I think we're cooking with gas.
00:17:09I think we're maybe.
00:17:11I mean, the problem is the map gets like a little, it's like a little messy.
00:17:15It's a little, it's a little messier than I would like.
00:17:18He couldn't be in the Norwich area, right?
00:17:20Well, no, theoretically he could be.
00:17:22He could, yeah.
00:17:24I just, I don't think, I'm choosing to not think about that.
00:17:29Honestly, if he's there, we're done-zo, we're GG, game's over right now.
00:17:34Yeah.
00:17:35So, honestly, we don't even have to worry about it.
00:17:41They are approaching quicker than I would like.
00:17:45I think we got to start looking for hiding spots.
00:17:49I do not think that hiding down here, by the sort of boardwalk, is the move.
00:17:56So, I think we need to go up more into the town.
00:18:02And I have awesome news about how we get further into town, which is that we take the tramway.
00:18:10Okay, let's take a gander.
00:18:30I mean, I would love to get a photo from him.
00:18:39Could be fun sooner rather than later.
00:18:41Especially because we have the time to analyze it.
00:18:43What kind of photo are you craving, Sam?
00:18:46A five billion is a classic.
00:18:48Biggest body of water in your zone is interesting because maybe we could see if he's on the coast.
00:18:54Yeah, but usually you just see the water.
00:18:57It's sometimes hard to...
00:18:58But it must include either both sides of the body of water or the horizon.
00:19:02I've never helped with that.
00:19:03I can't remember any of that.
00:19:05No, it's...
00:19:06You want to just ask for five buildings?
00:19:08A photo of five buildings?
00:19:09Might as well.
00:19:09They're so cheap.
00:19:10Let's ask for a photo of five buildings.
00:19:12Well, they have asked for a photo of five buildings.
00:19:17I'm glad that I had left the beach for this because I think that the buildings are going to be a lot more generic in this part of town.
00:19:28I think that what I want to do is find, like, the most rural-looking buildings.
00:19:36Because where I am is actually, like, relatively big compared to the places that it's nearest to.
00:19:43Maybe this...
00:19:45I'm allowed to blur text, but even this clearly communicates that I'm in a place with, like, a main street and stuff.
00:19:53Now, this feels pretty generic.
00:19:56It's like, where's that?
00:19:58That could be anywhere, especially when you crop it in.
00:20:03Like, I think that's about as good as we're going to do.
00:20:07And let's draw our cards.
00:20:11Well, a card.
00:20:13It's a photo.
00:20:13We only get one card.
00:20:23All right, folks.
00:20:24We've got a photo.
00:20:26Let's see.
00:20:26That looks like England.
00:20:30I mean, those are, like, row houses.
00:20:34That implies to be not too small.
00:20:36It's pretty cloudy looking.
00:20:39Whereas, like, here, there's some new sky.
00:20:41But I feel like you're more likely to see the ones like that near our coast.
00:20:44No.
00:20:44True.
00:20:45Okay, I'm back on the beach.
00:20:49Now, look.
00:20:50I have to be honest with you about something.
00:20:52There is a castle here.
00:20:56But, but, but, in my defense, there's a castle almost everywhere in England.
00:21:05Okay?
00:21:05I know I always hide near castles, but this, I didn't do it this time.
00:21:09I didn't even realize there was a castle here when I first looked here.
00:21:14I just, I found out later.
00:21:16All right, let's go check it out.
00:21:17All right.
00:21:24We've been waffling for a while.
00:21:26We're almost to Leeds.
00:21:28We want to play a thermometer.
00:21:29We want to split the maps that we know which coast to go to.
00:21:34But it's just, we just can't quite make a thermometer work.
00:21:38But the thing we could do is we could just do the half mile and walk at, like, get to Leeds and just walk a direction and get the exact angle we can.
00:21:47Or even start at a half mile at a station and then just, like, walk a little bit north or south to get the exact angle.
00:21:53So this basically works if we do it at this roundabout here.
00:21:57Okay.
00:21:57Then we can do some minor tweaking on foot.
00:22:00Yeah.
00:22:01What if?
00:22:05What if this is?
00:22:06You love the what if game.
00:22:08My game is I do whatever I want.
00:22:10Oh, wait, we're different.
00:22:11So we're doing it.
00:22:12We're doing it.
00:22:12Do it.
00:22:20Okay.
00:22:21They started a half mile thermometer.
00:22:23My guess is that they're going to use this to cut the country into east and west.
00:22:27I'm thinking it might be time for a veto.
00:22:30They can do the same thing with a three mile thermometer.
00:22:34But it'll be annoying.
00:22:37And then they'll have used their three mile thermometer.
00:22:40So I kind of think this might be our moment.
00:22:44I've been patiently waiting.
00:22:46But I think that now my owl-like wisdom is telling me that this might be our moment.
00:22:53All right.
00:23:00In order to get this thermometer to exactly the beautiful angle that we need, we want to go to the H&M.
00:23:10Okay.
00:23:10It's not a sponsor, but I will say credit to H&M.
00:23:14They've chosen a great spot to end a thermometer.
00:23:19What is Leeds known for?
00:23:22Is this where the Beatles are from?
00:23:24No.
00:23:24Oh.
00:23:25This is like the first we've seen anglers.
00:23:29It's hard to walk and use binoculars at the same time.
00:23:32They don't tell you that.
00:23:33This looks like Britain.
00:23:35You kind of have the tenants of every British main street with like a Greggs, a Cafe Nero.
00:23:41There's a restaurant here called Slug and Lettuce.
00:23:44That kind of describes British family.
00:23:46Yeah.
00:23:47Sam.
00:23:48Is that H&M?
00:23:49Sam, I found it.
00:23:51Right?
00:23:51Wait, hold on.
00:23:52No.
00:23:54I'm doing this good again.
00:23:55Do you want to declare it?
00:23:56Sam, I found the H&M.
00:23:57Okay.
00:23:58Do you want to declare it?
00:24:00Yeah.
00:24:01All right.
00:24:02Well, the thermometer has come.
00:24:08I think it's time to veto.
00:24:10Now, it's possible that they can basically re-ask this with a three-mile thermometer, but
00:24:21I think that'll be inconvenient for them.
00:24:24And if they do it, then they'll have used up three of their four thermometers.
00:24:29We have an answer.
00:24:31Okay.
00:24:32This son of a bitch has hit us with a veto question.
00:24:35Oh.
00:24:35That is not...
00:24:37On one hand, on the other hand, we're on to him.
00:24:41Or he just realized this was a good question to veto.
00:24:45Or we're on to him.
00:24:47Let's look at if there's any kind of three-mile thermometer that could get us maybe a similar...
00:24:52Well, that's kind of what we were looking at before.
00:24:54Yeah.
00:24:55I mean, there is a train to cross-gate, but I don't think that gets us quite the angle that
00:24:59we want.
00:24:59Maybe let's walk back towards the station.
00:25:03Sam, cross-gate still works.
00:25:07Does it, though?
00:25:08So there's like a little bit of a slice.
00:25:10Here, let's cross.
00:25:11Yeah.
00:25:11It's not as perfect, but it's...
00:25:15Well, we can do it relatively efficiently now, because there is a quick transfer back.
00:25:22So maybe it's worth it.
00:25:23This geography is a little awkward, but I think it's as good as we're going to do right now.
00:25:26So let's get on this train to cross-gates, and let's start our three-mile thermometer now.
00:25:33We're really burning through these.
00:25:45It's pretty cool here.
00:25:47Yeah, it is really beautiful up here.
00:26:02Okay.
00:26:03Well, as predicted, they're doing the three-mile thermometer.
00:26:06But that definitely is going to have taken them a bit.
00:26:13I think that it will have slowed them down enough that it was worth it to do it, especially
00:26:17because they don't have good thermometers left.
00:26:20They only have one left now.
00:26:22So I still say worth it.
00:26:27Man, I really wish he had not vetoed that half-mile.
00:26:32That is...
00:26:34Yep.
00:26:36It hurts.
00:26:37All right.
00:26:39Sam, we made it across-gates.
00:26:41We just got to get a little bit north.
00:26:42Yeah, that train was late, so we only have 10 minutes.
00:26:44And this thermometer.
00:26:45All right.
00:26:46So I think we should follow this road up a bit.
00:26:48Whatever takes us north.
00:26:49Yeah.
00:26:51Okay, we end it here.
00:26:53Let's end it here.
00:26:53The geography is a little weird, but we'll probably get rid of the sliver somehow.
00:26:58Somehow.
00:27:00Okay.
00:27:01Committing?
00:27:01Committing.
00:27:02Let's get on that train back.
00:27:04Okay.
00:27:05If that does it for us, Ben, that'll...
00:27:07It's not going to be...
00:27:08He's not in the sliver.
00:27:09That'll be the blunder.
00:27:12His ass is not in the sliver.
00:27:14The blunder of all time.
00:27:22Come on.
00:27:23What direction are you going?
00:27:30Well, damn it.
00:27:36Why don't they guess wrong sometimes?
00:27:43Hey.
00:27:44Let's draw our stupid cards.
00:27:54Curse of the Prosperous Home.
00:27:56Expand the radius of your hiding zone by 50%.
00:27:58More time bonus.
00:28:11Well, I'd love the castle.
00:28:17Let's go back in and down.
00:28:19All right, Sam.
00:28:19We got an answer.
00:28:20What is it?
00:28:20Are you ready?
00:28:21Are you emotionally prepared to receive this information?
00:28:23Hotter.
00:28:25East Coast.
00:28:26The East Coast.
00:28:27Which means that the sliver is not a problem.
00:28:29The problem is that this is still kind of a weird slice of map remaining.
00:28:34Yeah, and a lot of the lines to the coast are, like, pretty big commitments.
00:28:39We can ask if he's in our same region, because our region contains most of the whole stuff.
00:28:47Is this our train?
00:28:48Yeah.
00:28:49I don't want to go to the coast yet.
00:28:53We need to figure out, like, which section of coast he's on before we actually go there.
00:28:59I don't know that we're going to have a more useful time for the region question now.
00:29:02No.
00:29:03And it's also, like, if it's a hit.
00:29:05Huge.
00:29:06Huge.
00:29:07Oh, my God.
00:29:07You know what's in our map?
00:29:09Saltburn.
00:29:10You ever watch Saltburn?
00:29:11It seemed too freaky.
00:29:13Maybe he's getting freaky over somewhere.
00:29:15I know.
00:29:16I've got to go freezing.
00:29:18One fish and chips and one chips and cheese, yeah?
00:29:21Yes, thank you.
00:29:22And where is?
00:29:2313.
00:29:24Is this the right?
00:29:28Is this the right?
00:29:30Everyone knows.
00:29:32So why not me?
00:29:34I like region.
00:29:36I like region, and if it's a no, we start going north, and we use our 10-mile thermometer to exclude everything south.
00:29:45I'm not convinced that's worth it.
00:29:48But I like region first, at least.
00:29:50All right, let's see region.
00:29:52What?
00:29:52It's an old thing.
00:29:54Can you find me out?
00:29:55All right, we're asking same region.
00:29:57Currently, we are in Yorkshire and the Humber.
00:30:01Adam, are you in Yorkshire and the Humber?
00:30:04Only time to tell.
00:30:06Well, I would say that that's not great.
00:30:28Because I am in the same region as them.
00:30:38Got an answer.
00:30:38What is it?
00:30:42Bingo!
00:30:42It's a hit?
00:30:43It's a hit.
00:30:45It's a hit.
00:30:46It's a hit.
00:30:46It's a hit.
00:30:47Spotted ya.
00:30:48Spotted ya.
00:30:48Okay, this is good.
00:30:49This is good.
00:30:50We're making good time here.
00:30:51Adam, wait.
00:30:52No, no, no.
00:30:52First, cut to Adam spiraling.
00:30:54I want to see Adam spiraling.
00:30:55Adam, I see you spiraling.
00:31:02Well, shoot.
00:31:03So, we know we want to go.
00:31:11Well, we still don't know where we want to go.
00:31:12But we've got a small map.
00:31:14We've got a, we're, we're, it's just this region.
00:31:17And we've already cut off, like, a huge chunk of it anyway.
00:31:20We need a genius question, Ben.
00:31:22So, it's like, he's either around this, like, Middlesbrough,
00:31:26Middlesbrough area or Hull.
00:31:31And we kind of need to know, because once we go down the line,
00:31:35we'll just have to back.
00:31:36I don't think we can quite commit to going to one of those two yet.
00:31:40Okay, so, I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
00:31:43Ben and I are potentially about to make a huge mistake.
00:31:46If you didn't just catch that, we seem to think that Middlesbrough
00:31:49and the surrounding lines are in our region and still in play.
00:31:53The thing is, they're not.
00:31:54Even this line that goes down to Whitby,
00:31:56which does enter the remaining map, wouldn't be valid.
00:31:58The trains don't run often enough for any of these stations
00:32:01to be used as hiding zones under our rules.
00:32:03And to raise the stakes here,
00:32:04Middlesbrough is basically completely disconnected
00:32:06from the parts of our map that are in play.
00:32:08That means that if we mistakenly decide to go there,
00:32:11we're liable to lose hours for nothing.
00:32:13Now, back to our strategizing.
00:32:15I bet he's in salt burn or something.
00:32:19I bet his freaky ass is in salt burn.
00:32:22I fear in my afternoons.
00:32:24I think we might, but it's just still a question of what is the best way to move.
00:32:30Is there any way to use a thermometer to cut it through here?
00:32:34You would need to, like...
00:32:35If we could maybe, like, go down that line or go up that line.
00:32:41Like, if we went up that line from York,
00:32:43we could very easily do that thermometer.
00:32:46It's just risky.
00:32:47Yeah.
00:32:47I mean, I don't hate that because that is, like, clean.
00:32:52So, I mean, we could get on this train all the way to Middlesbrough.
00:32:55If we basically YOLO it towards Middlesbrough,
00:32:59that is the only way we can ask a clean thermometer that cuts the map at two.
00:33:07We just might be going the wrong direction.
00:33:10We're going to waste a lot more time, I think, with messiness.
00:33:13Because it really seems like we need to get rid of the Middlesbrough cluster.
00:33:17I think that that is the most important thing.
00:33:18And I don't have an idea how to do that except get on the train.
00:33:20So, one more epic move.
00:33:21One more epic move never hurt anybody, right?
00:33:24Let's get to platform 16 while we make final thoughts.
00:33:27I guess let's draw our cards.
00:33:31Things are not looking awesome.
00:33:36Curse of the Gambler's Feet.
00:33:38For the next hour, Seekers must roll a die before they take any steps in any direction.
00:33:43They may take that many steps before rolling again.
00:33:45Casting cost, roll a die.
00:33:47If it's an even number, this curse has no effect.
00:33:51It's a good one.
00:33:52A classic.
00:33:54Curse of the 5-Minute King.
00:33:59Remove all 5-Minute bonuses from the deck for the rest of your run.
00:34:02After doing so, you must reshuffle the deck.
00:34:05Casting cost, discard two 5-Minute bonus cards.
00:34:08Here's the thing.
00:34:15Gambler's Feet is funny.
00:34:17It doesn't actually do that much to slow them down.
00:34:19Curse of the 5-Minute King.
00:34:21It only makes the deck marginally bigger and I need two 5-Minute bonuses.
00:34:24I think I take the 10-Minute bonus and I use it to cast the Curse of the Prosperous Home.
00:34:31Curse of the Prosperous Home requires discarding 20 minutes of time bonus.
00:34:35I'm going to discard them and cast this curse, expanding my hiding area.
00:34:44Now we really have to find a good place to hide.
00:34:47We have received an SMS text message, Ben.
00:34:53He has cursed us with the Curse of the Prosperous Home.
00:34:57Watch out.
00:34:57It doesn't do anything to us yet, but it means he's got a big ol' fat ol' hiding zone, which is going to make the endgame harder.
00:35:05It just...
00:35:06Let's get to the platform.
00:35:07We can at least waffle for 20 minutes until we get to York without necessarily committing too much.
00:35:13The only situation where this is bad is where we're going the wrong direction.
00:35:18But then after that, like, we'll have a much cleaner map.
00:35:21I can't think of a better move.
00:35:23Okay, so we're just going to have to start the thermometer, like, here and end it, like, here.
00:35:41And then we get our perfect, beautiful line.
00:35:44It would be really funny to use this open.
00:35:46It's probably pretty, right?
00:35:48I'm checking whether we'd be able to see the ocean.
00:35:51Do you want to ask for a photo?
00:35:54Do we have 20...
00:35:55How long is this right?
00:35:56Maybe in York just under 20 minutes.
00:36:00I think it'd be fine because we're going to start it outside of York.
00:36:02But we need to ask now.
00:36:03Water?
00:36:04Let's ask for the biggest body of water.
00:36:06I think we should...
00:36:08We should at least be able to tell if he's not on the ocean.
00:36:11Probably.
00:36:12Should we do it?
00:36:13Do it.
00:36:14Do it now.
00:36:16Ha, ha, ha.
00:36:18Ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:36:20Ha, in fact, ha, ha.
00:36:23They have requested a photo of my biggest body of water.
00:36:28As you may remember, due to the curse of the Gilded Inquiry, that question is automatically vetoed,
00:36:36and I get to draw and keep three cards.
00:36:41Folks, this rules for us.
00:36:46Oh, Sam.
00:36:49Oh, no.
00:36:51Oh.
00:36:52That...
00:36:53That...
00:36:54Okay.
00:36:55But hold on.
00:36:56Sam.
00:36:57Look.
00:36:58That's a lot of cards you just got.
00:36:59Yeah.
00:37:00He did just get three cards and our question vetoed.
00:37:01It's interesting that that's the question that he chose.
00:37:04Yeah.
00:37:05Yeah.
00:37:06I don't think it necessarily implies that he is on the coast.
00:37:07No.
00:37:08But it's just interesting.
00:37:09Now, let's get our cards.
00:37:1015-minute bonus.
00:37:11Great start.
00:37:1210-minute bonus.
00:37:13Fine.
00:37:14In the curse of the soothsayer...
00:37:16Yeah.
00:37:17Oh.
00:37:18I don't think it necessarily implies that he is on the coast.
00:37:19No.
00:37:20I don't think it necessarily implies that he is on the coast.
00:37:21But it's just interesting.
00:37:22Now, let's get our cards.
00:37:23Let's see.
00:37:2715-minute bonus.
00:37:28Great start.
00:37:3010-minute bonus.
00:37:31Fine.
00:37:32And the curse of the soothsayer...
00:37:36And the Curse of the Soothsayer.
00:37:40Curse of the Soothsayer.
00:37:41For the rest of the round, you may choose to predict the next question after each question is asked.
00:37:46If you are right, you earn triple rewards.
00:37:48If you are wrong, you earn no reward.
00:37:50Casting cost? Discard a curse.
00:37:54Pretty good.
00:37:56Pretty good.
00:38:03So, wait, Ben.
00:38:06Saltburn actually isn't in that region.
00:38:14Saltburn isn't in that region?
00:38:16No.
00:38:17What do you mean?
00:38:18The region ends here.
00:38:20So, none of that line is in.
00:38:24The only bit that is in this line.
00:38:30Middleborough isn't in it?
00:38:31Apparently not.
00:38:33Well, what do you want to do?
00:38:36It makes me wonder if we'd get off more.
00:38:43But we could still cut off that line.
00:38:46But that line doesn't seem that likely.
00:38:50Excluded on frequency.
00:38:51We definitely want to get off.
00:38:52Welcome to New York.
00:39:05What the f*** do we do now?
00:39:07We probably shouldn't have come here.
00:39:09No.
00:39:10Somewhat.
00:39:11We kind of thought some lines were in play that are not in play.
00:39:13If this is on the way to some stuff, it's fine.
00:39:16But we need to stop narrowly having big s*** ups, Ben.
00:39:22The key is narrowly.
00:39:25The thing I'm worried about is that even though on the map there's a decent number of possibilities left,
00:39:32I don't actually think that I could have gotten to a lot of them, so I'm worried that they might have a good guess about where I am.
00:39:45And maybe that's what they're about to do.
00:39:49They're about to just go for it.
00:39:51We've got them down to, like...
00:39:54We're doing great.
00:39:56I mean, what?
00:39:57Like, probably, like, less than a couple dozen stations now.
00:40:01I think it's a...
00:40:02Yeah, it's a healthy couple dozen.
00:40:05Um...
00:40:06I don't know.
00:40:09I don't know.
00:40:10I don't know exactly.
00:40:12I mean, we could just, like, go to Starborough.
00:40:14I mean, it's not the craziest idea.
00:40:16I mean, it seems like we have, like, decent maneuverability around here.
00:40:19Great.
00:40:20I love to maneuver.
00:40:21So it's kind of like...
00:40:22I feel like we should probably either be getting on that train to Hull or the train to Scarborough.
00:40:27But what do we do getting on those trains?
00:40:30I don't know, man.
00:40:33Okay.
00:40:33What do we do?
00:40:34What do we do, Ben?
00:40:35Well, look, I feel like we're doing pretty good.
00:40:40We are.
00:40:41I just don't know how to...
00:40:42Even though we did literally just make a giant mistake.
00:40:44And we did.
00:40:45We almost made a giant mistake.
00:40:46We almost...
00:40:47We made a little mistake on the way to making a giant mistake.
00:40:50Yes.
00:40:50We are going to look so stupid.
00:40:52We've gotten everything right.
00:40:53We're going to look like a genius.
00:40:55Okay.
00:40:55So radar, not useful because we're equidistant from the two main areas.
00:41:00There's always the question where we go on a line and we're like, are you on this one?
00:41:05But I fear it may be too early.
00:41:09Like, he could be in Grimsby.
00:41:12Let's keep in the back of our minds.
00:41:13There is that train to Hull in 12 minutes.
00:41:15I mean, I don't know.
00:41:16Do you want to go to Hull?
00:41:18Once we're there, or even once we're on the way there, we could probably ask a much more useful radar.
00:41:25You know how we can exclude Grimsby on County if we're in Hull?
00:41:34That feels pretty good.
00:41:35I kind of like that.
00:41:36We could also...
00:41:37We could basically ask that right after we leave for Hull.
00:41:40I can't think of something very useful we can do here.
00:41:44No.
00:41:44And there's a lot useful we can do at Hull.
00:41:46I think...
00:41:47Let go to Hull.
00:41:48Okay, let's go.
00:41:50I'm getting hangry.
00:41:51I need food.
00:41:52I have a lot of bars.
00:41:55I have bars too, but I've had my bars.
00:41:59I'm going to crash out on bars, man.
00:42:04Hello.
00:42:05Made it on the train to Hull.
00:42:07I got a little print on Maha J.
00:42:08Never hurt.
00:42:09Never hurt anybody.
00:42:09I'm so excited for food.
00:42:10I'm so hungry.
00:42:12If the answer is yes, I was just checking.
00:42:14This train, it goes all the way up to Breitlington.
00:42:18Yeah.
00:42:19Meaning this train stops at almost every...
00:42:24Wait.
00:42:25Do we want a station photo?
00:42:27Yeah.
00:42:27Ask for a station photo.
00:42:29Wow.
00:42:30Why not?
00:42:31I think that is a worthwhile card.
00:42:33What are the chances he pulls a bank?
00:42:37Zero.
00:42:37Zero.
00:42:38Zero chance he pulls a bank on this question.
00:42:42Okay.
00:42:43Well, I was trying to go to the other end of my zone to check it out.
00:42:48But they want a picture of the train platform.
00:42:55Well, folks, we've made it to the station.
00:42:58It has to be visible from the train platform.
00:43:05This station is under construction.
00:43:09Is there a way that they would be able to figure out what stations are under renovation?
00:43:19Okay.
00:43:20Yes.
00:43:20Google will tell me that it is.
00:43:22Which means I don't think we should show any of this.
00:43:25Okay.
00:43:28How about that?
00:43:29I don't know how helpful that's going to be.
00:43:31All right, Sam.
00:43:42Ooh.
00:43:43Got a photo from Adam.
00:43:44I feel like we would be able to notice that.
00:43:46It's a pretty particular type of brick.
00:43:48Like, I don't think most stations would have that brick.
00:43:52You've got that red sign in the corner.
00:43:54Because, like, a lot of these stations don't even have structures.
00:43:58So it's at least, like, not the most rural.
00:44:02And I reckon we're getting pretty close.
00:44:05I reckon Mr. Chase is quaking.
00:44:09Okay, so they seem to have turned around and are now going the wrong way, which is good.
00:44:39I think he's probably in this county.
00:44:54Sam, there's a castle.
00:44:56Nice, nice little look at the castle.
00:44:58Look at the castle.
00:45:02Um.
00:45:04Sam.
00:45:05Wait, we're there.
00:45:06Let's, uh, let's ask if he is in this county.
00:45:10Adam, this is your end game.
00:45:12Okay, well, I understand what they were doing now.
00:45:18They were trying to get to the county of East Riding of Yorkshire to ask if I was there.
00:45:27And, folks, I am thrilled to tell you that I am not.
00:45:33Yes, this does narrow things down quite a bit.
00:45:37On the other hand, they just wasted a ton of time going and figuring that out.
00:45:51I'm stressed, man.
00:45:53I'm mostly stressed about it.
00:45:55I'm like a no answer.
00:45:56A no answer.
00:45:57But a no answer does probably eliminate more than half the stations.
00:46:03Yes, but I just don't know what we do next.
00:46:04No, it'll be a no.
00:46:06Okay.
00:46:08You ready?
00:46:10It's a no.
00:46:13Okay.
00:46:16Fine.
00:46:17What do we do?
00:46:19Panic.
00:46:20No, that's the wrong answer.
00:46:22All right, folks.
00:46:25Let's draw our cards, shall we?
00:46:28One.
00:46:30Fine.
00:46:32Two.
00:46:34Okay, better.
00:46:36Three.
00:46:38Curse of the Jammed Door.
00:46:39For the next three hours, whenever the Seekers want to pass through a doorway into a building,
00:46:43business, train, or other vehicle, they must first roll two dice.
00:46:47If they do not roll a seven or higher, they cannot enter that space.
00:46:50Any given doorway can be reattempted after 15 minutes.
00:46:54Casting cost?
00:46:55Discard a card.
00:46:58Oh, yeah.
00:46:59Oh, big time.
00:47:02All right.
00:47:03Let's use this right now.
00:47:05Let's discard.
00:47:06Let's discard Curse of the Seussayer.
00:47:08I don't want to do that.
00:47:10Oh, folks.
00:47:12Here we go.
00:47:13You have to send something, Ben.
00:47:18Jammed Door.
00:47:19The classic.
00:47:20Oh, man, Ben.
00:47:21Things were going good.
00:47:24So we could have gotten to Scarborough.
00:47:26Could you have gotten to any of the stations below Scarborough?
00:47:28Yes.
00:47:29I think that those are, like, pretty attractive.
00:47:34Yeah, but there's only three of them.
00:47:36Yeah.
00:47:36So our fastest way to Scarborough at this point is actually probably staying on this.
00:47:43I mean, it's true that, like, actually getting off of a train is a risk, I don't know, because
00:47:48of the Jam Door.
00:47:49Yeah.
00:47:50So, like, the fact that we're on a train that is moving is worth something.
00:47:54So it's basically, if we're right, if we haven't f***ed up, which we probably have, he's either in one of three stations up there, or he's in, like, all of this.
00:48:08Wait, Ben, we could radar, right?
00:48:12What's, like, a 25 from around here look like?
00:48:16Okay, we'd have to use it, like, ASAP.
00:48:20Okay, we'd want to use it in, like, seconds.
00:48:22From Brown, because that way, we would just include Grimsby, and we would get as much of Doncaster as possible.
00:48:31All right, get it?
00:48:32Yeah, get it.
00:48:33I'll tell you something, folks.
00:48:35Things have turned around a little bit for us here.
00:48:37They had a straight shot from York to me, but instead they backtracked, they went the wrong way.
00:48:43Now they're going to have to make their way back here and deal with the Curse of the Jam Door.
00:48:47I mean, that one mistake by them, going the wrong way from York, is probably going to get me, like, at least two extra hours.
00:48:59They have asked for a 25-mile radar.
00:49:03Seemingly, they are trying to eliminate all of the area in the Humber.
00:49:08I am not within 25 miles of them.
00:49:13I'm simply not.
00:49:14I'm not.
00:49:15Nothing I can do about that.
00:49:16And so, we draw two cards and pick one.
00:49:22That's interesting.
00:49:25Curse of the Archaeologist.
00:49:27Send the Seekers a photo of a building or structure whose age you can verify to within a century.
00:49:31The Seekers must find a building or structure, whose age they can also verify, from the same century or earlier before asking another question.
00:49:39Casting Cost?
00:49:40A standard photo of a building or structure.
00:49:41Yeah, Curse of the Archaeologist is interesting, but I just don't think I want to give them that information.
00:49:47I think I'd prefer just a good old time bonus.
00:49:52But, things are going so good for us right now, I think we need to celebrate.
00:49:58And I happen to know the perfect place to do it.
00:50:01So, let's go.
00:50:05Let's go.
00:50:07So brown.
00:50:09All right.
00:50:10This could be Big Ben.
00:50:12What's it say?
00:50:14Mess.
00:50:14You're giving me a YouTube face.
00:50:18You're giving me a thumbnail face.
00:50:20If we are right about everything, we have them down to three stations.
00:50:26That doesn't...
00:50:29It kind of seems like too good to be true.
00:50:32I just...
00:50:33I'm scared to continue on this train past here.
00:50:37I mean, it's such a gamble.
00:50:39But based on our info right now, it's the right move.
00:50:42All right, Sam, we're in home.
00:50:43This is the sort of big question.
00:50:46Do we stay on this train because we think that he is up north?
00:50:50Are we confident enough?
00:50:52Should we be banked on us being right or banking on us being wrong?
00:50:56I don't know, Sam.
00:50:59I don't know what to...
00:51:00Stay on the train?
00:51:02You want to stay on the train?
00:51:03Well, I think it would be silly to bank on us being wrong.
00:51:09We should be banking on us being right.
00:51:11We don't have time to redo our work right now before this train pulls out of the station.
00:51:15I'm sweating, though.
00:51:17Sam, I'm sweating like a pig.
00:51:18You do that normally, Ben.
00:51:19I'm sweating like a roast pig.
00:51:21Scarborough looks lovely.
00:51:23I agree that, like, vines wines, I think it's so much more likely that he's up there.
00:51:28Look at all these row houses.
00:51:30We know he's in the row houses.
00:51:31Look at the row houses.
00:51:32And there's row houses.
00:51:33I'm hearing it.
00:51:36He's in Scarborough.
00:51:38He's in Scarborough, Ben.
00:51:39I certainly think he's around there.
00:51:44I think we've got to stay on him.
00:51:45I just don't see the lobby to stay on him.
00:51:47I don't know what we would do if we got off.
00:51:50No.
00:51:50I think it's simply the Strava Map time.
00:51:55If we think we have it down to three, Strava Map.
00:51:59You can have a Strava Map as a treat.
00:52:02Hit it.
00:52:03Bang, bang, boom.
00:52:05All right.
00:52:06I think we're ending our day in Ridlington.
00:52:10Brightlington?
00:52:12Ridlington.
00:52:12Ridlington.
00:52:13Ridlington.
00:52:13Ridlington.
00:52:13Ridlington.
00:52:14Ridlington.
00:52:14Ridlington.
00:52:14Ridlington.
00:52:14Ridlington.
00:52:15Ridlington.
00:52:20All right.
00:52:23Well, they are coming hard with the questions now.
00:52:27They would like the map of half a mile of streets at least five turns.
00:52:34Okay.
00:52:35I think that I found an area that is pretty generic.
00:52:39I am hopeful that it will not give them that much.
00:52:41But on the other hand, Sam is historically very good at dealing with Strava Maps.
00:52:47Let's get our one card for answering that question.
00:52:56Yay!
00:53:02Ben, I've been searing the image of Scarborough into my retinas.
00:53:07It's got the row houses that he sent the photo with of close to the station.
00:53:13Yeah.
00:53:13It has cliffs.
00:53:16It has a castle.
00:53:17Scarborough is definitely my leading theory.
00:53:21Oh, here it is.
00:53:23It's very blocky.
00:53:24Very blocky.
00:53:25Okay.
00:53:26With, like, perfectly right turns.
00:53:28I mean, they're 100% are, like, look at the stuff around Kappelman's Fish and Chips.
00:53:36Yeah.
00:53:36I legit think that could, in fact, be it.
00:53:39Right around here.
00:53:41Okay.
00:53:41Let me try that.
00:53:41Like, that looks pretty good to me.
00:53:47That looks pretty good to me.
00:53:49Can I get credit for spotting that immediately?
00:53:53I mean, that looks pretty.
00:53:55I didn't tilt it.
00:53:57So the angle is 100%.
00:53:58The shape, I mean, it's 100% match.
00:54:05Sam, I've got one question for you.
00:54:07Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
00:54:09You know that song?
00:54:10You know that song by Simon Garfunkel?
00:54:13No.
00:54:14Give it a listen tonight.
00:54:16That's what I do know, man.
00:54:18I'm going to Scarborough.
00:54:20Because Mr. Adam Chase, he's in Scarborough.
00:54:25Yes.
00:54:25What the hell?
00:54:33Is it closed?
00:54:39Well, this sucks.
00:54:43All right, folks.
00:54:48Well, it would seem that they have turned northward.
00:54:54Yeah.
00:54:54My guess is that the jig is basically up at this point.
00:54:59So tomorrow morning, we need to lock in on finding a good hiding spot.
00:55:05We've got a lot of area to play with.
00:55:07We expanded our hiding zone.
00:55:09I will see you back here at this exact spot tomorrow morning.
00:55:23Thanks.
00:55:24All right.
00:55:25Well, welcome to Bridlington, Sam.
00:55:28This looks nice.
00:55:29They got flowers and s***.
00:55:30Well, Sam, I think this is where we end our day.
00:55:34Because tomorrow, we think we know where Adam is.
00:55:39We got him.
00:55:40I think we're pretty sure he's in Scarborough.
00:55:43There is a train first thing, which is why we can't leave the station.
00:55:46Because otherwise, we're going to have to roll to get in.
00:55:48The bad news is we are also going to have to roll for that train.
00:55:50Because we have this cursed Christmas jam door.
00:55:52You got to roll the dice to see if you can get on the train or if the door jams.
00:55:56I'm so good at rolling dice.
00:55:58And so we might get locked out of the first train.
00:56:00And Scarborough might also get locked out of the second train.
00:56:04That's the problem for tomorrow.
00:56:05We'll eventually expire and we'll deal with it as it comes up.
00:56:09All right.
00:56:10Goodbye.
00:56:10Good night.
00:56:12Mwah.
00:56:24Good morning.
00:56:25It is 7 a.m.
00:56:28And I believe that they are coming for my ass.
00:56:32All right.
00:56:33Hello.
00:56:33Good morning.
00:56:35Good morning.
00:56:35It is day two.
00:56:37So we've still got the jam door cursed, which means we have to roll the dice to see if we can get on the train when it arrives.
00:56:43And if we don't roll right, then we're waiting for at least the second train to Scarborough.
00:56:49Yeah, which is 40 minutes after the first train.
00:56:53All right.
00:56:54Let's go to the right platform.
00:56:56There's a train from there to here.
00:56:58So the time has come to find our hiding spot.
00:57:04We could go that way towards the stuff where we started.
00:57:10I would argue that this is a mistake because this cliff area, very distinctive.
00:57:17We have to be within 10 feet of a path.
00:57:19And there's only, there's very limited paths over there.
00:57:25So I actually think they would find me very quickly over there.
00:57:28So I think the actual solution is we need to go to the most boring part of town that is the most generic.
00:57:35So let's get looking.
00:57:40How do you enjoy your overnight in Bridlington?
00:57:44I mean, to be honest with you, Sam, this place is kind of scary.
00:57:47I'm sure Bridlington's a lovely place.
00:57:51I did feel like at many moments there was going to be like a knife-wielding clown around the corner.
00:57:58Exactly.
00:57:59Yeah.
00:58:01Do you have dice to eat?
00:58:02This is our train.
00:58:04So if we roll anything less than a seven, the doors are jammed that we cannot board.
00:58:10Come on, then.
00:58:11You can do this.
00:58:11Are you ready?
00:58:12You can do this.
00:58:13Get in here.
00:58:17Oh, it's a six.
00:58:20Not your fault.
00:58:22Oh, my God.
00:58:23I got close to a seven.
00:58:25Oh, God.
00:58:27Well, 40 more minutes in Bridlington, at least.
00:58:31Okay.
00:58:32Well, their train, to me, should have left like five minutes ago.
00:58:37Oh, and they're still at the station.
00:58:43It says the train left.
00:58:45What are they doing?
00:58:48Curse of the jammed door.
00:58:50Oh, love the curse of the jammed door.
00:58:53All right.
00:58:56Now we're starting to get to generic stuff.
00:58:59Like, what's the difference between this street and this street?
00:59:05The stuff down there and the stuff over there.
00:59:08So, I think we just got to keep walking and see if we can find just a good little corner or something.
00:59:16This is what we want.
00:59:18We want to be in the area where everything looks the freaking same.
00:59:23The next train will be here soon.
00:59:25The train that we will be getting on will be here soon.
00:59:29Because you've learned how to roll dice better now, right?
00:59:32Yeah.
00:59:33You've been practicing?
00:59:33Look, I rolled a six last time as a bit.
00:59:37I thought it would be funny.
00:59:38But it was funny, right?
00:59:39It was kind of funny, yeah.
00:59:40Pretty funny.
00:59:41So, this time I'm going to roll an eight.
00:59:47I spotted the train.
00:59:51All right, Sam.
00:59:52Okay, doors are here.
00:59:53Come on, Ben.
00:59:54Come on.
00:59:55Oh, seven or higher.
00:59:58Oh, my God.
00:59:58I'm so nervous.
00:59:59Are you sure you don't want to do it?
01:00:01You do it.
01:00:01Okay, I'm doing it.
01:00:02I'm doing it.
01:00:03Oh, it's an eight.
01:00:07You nailed it, Ben.
01:00:09Let's go get them.
01:00:11They're so open.
01:00:11They're so open and unjammed.
01:00:13I love unjammed doors.
01:00:16Oh, sweet, sweet train.
01:00:24Well, they made it.
01:00:27But hey, we got one.
01:00:28That's pretty good.
01:00:29Okay, now we really got to pick a spot because they're going to be here in like 40 minutes.
01:00:38All right, well, I think if we are right about where he is, he should be getting into position right now.
01:00:52Run away, Adam.
01:00:54All right, see, here's a great example of where we can't hide.
01:00:57Cannot hide anywhere where we can see that.
01:00:59Because that would be the tallest building we can see and that is super distinctive.
01:01:03So we need to get away from that.
01:01:08This isn't bad.
01:01:09I need to make sure I wouldn't have to send any pictures of these signs.
01:01:15I feel good about this one.
01:01:17It's a little bench for me to sit on.
01:01:19There's like, I'm walking around, there's like a million streets that look like this.
01:01:23The downside is there's not like a, really a place to hide, but there isn't one on any of the streets that are like this.
01:01:35I guess we'll find out.
01:01:42That mountain is, um, it's looking hefty.
01:01:45Yeah, and that's just within the zone I checked.
01:01:48There are a couple different wooded areas within the zone.
01:01:51That's tricky.
01:01:52However, that's why we're going to slice and dice.
01:01:56So first question, I think as soon as we get there, we're going to do distance to...
01:02:02Nearest airport.
01:02:03Airport.
01:02:03Because that'll slice the map right now.
01:02:06Should I send it?
01:02:07Yeah.
01:02:08I think we do it before the exit.
01:02:10He heads us with a curse.
01:02:13Oh, yeah.
01:02:15This, that's it for sure, is definitely it.
01:02:19I think Adam did something sneaky.
01:02:21I think he went behind the scaffolding.
01:02:24Yeah, to make it less, uh...
01:02:25Oh, yeah, but like, it's one of these.
01:02:27Yeah, it's got one of those.
01:02:29Oh, here it is, Ben.
01:02:31I think?
01:02:32Yeah.
01:02:32That's it.
01:02:34We got him.
01:02:35All right.
01:02:35We got him.
01:02:36Well, they are here.
01:02:40And they have asked an interesting question.
01:02:42They've asked whether I'm closer to or further from the nearest airport.
01:02:46Now, this is a very clever question, I believe, because it functionally just splits this area
01:02:57in the north-south.
01:02:58It just splits it in half.
01:02:59Okay.
01:03:00Yeah.
01:03:00So I am further from the airport than them, which they will know means I am north of them.
01:03:06Already, they can disregard quite a lot.
01:03:12Let's draw our cards.
01:03:17Ooh.
01:03:21All right.
01:03:24Ooh, tough choice.
01:03:26Oh, my gosh.
01:03:28Which one do we go with?
01:03:29All right.
01:03:30Adam says he is further.
01:03:33From the airport.
01:03:34Yeah, which would mean he's in the north half of this radius.
01:03:38Okay.
01:03:38Let's go ahead and quickly ask, while we don't have a curse, a tracing of his nearest path
01:03:44or street, because that'll just give us something to work with.
01:03:49And then we find the center of one half of the remaining half radar cut in half again.
01:03:56This half seems to have a little bit more complexity.
01:03:58Yeah.
01:03:59Which makes me think it's slightly more likely he's in the middle.
01:04:01Let's go in the middle of there.
01:04:08It's an ambulance.
01:04:09It's probably for Adam because he's crashing out.
01:04:12We do need to keep an eye out just in case.
01:04:14True.
01:04:15He's not there.
01:04:18Adam.
01:04:19Well, folks, they have begun their search in the wrong direction.
01:04:23They have gone towards the stuff that is interesting.
01:04:26Because they think I'm a sucker.
01:04:29They think I'm a damn sucker who can't help himself from being near the interesting stuff.
01:04:35Well, guess what?
01:04:36I did.
01:04:38Now they've asked, yeah, the most obvious one.
01:04:42Trace my nearest path.
01:04:43Now, luckily, basically every path in this whole area looks the same.
01:04:49You should get us an answer in one minute.
01:04:50And then we hit him with the immediate.
01:04:53Yeah.
01:04:54So 0.375 mile radius, right?
01:04:57Yep.
01:04:57From here.
01:04:58I'm going to do it faster than you can type curse.
01:05:01Okay.
01:05:01You sent it.
01:05:02I sent back.
01:05:03Oh, okay.
01:05:04It's not a very useful one.
01:05:05At least immediately.
01:05:07Gives us orientation.
01:05:08Orientation can be useful.
01:05:10Gives us orientation.
01:05:10Um, and it looks pretty straight, but it's like, what, is he just on some residential street?
01:05:17Maybe.
01:05:18I don't know.
01:05:19We're going to draw a card.
01:05:24Awesome.
01:05:25I will say also that we are now at our max hand size, so we are going to use the curse
01:05:34of the hide-and-seek section.
01:05:37They were very quick, and they did manage to get their next question in before I cast this,
01:05:47but that's fine.
01:05:51Um, we have been cursed.
01:05:54Cursed.
01:05:55Cursed to the hide-and-seek section.
01:05:57Do you want to hide or do you want to seek?
01:05:59I'll hide.
01:06:00Really?
01:06:02Okay, you hide.
01:06:03I'm going to close my eyes.
01:06:04You take this, um, and...
01:06:08Goodbye.
01:06:08Goodbye.
01:06:10So this rat here is, how can we collude without colluding?
01:06:15I'm just going to go straight down the biggest street.
01:06:23Slightly farther.
01:06:24Okay.
01:06:27This is good enough.
01:06:28All right, let me text him.
01:06:29So we do have to answer this 0.375 mile radius, which will eliminate probably about half
01:06:39of the remaining map.
01:06:41And it is a miss.
01:06:43Now what's fun is that I can watch them play hide-and-seek.
01:06:46It seems that Sam has decided to hide, and he has gone down towards the beach.
01:06:55What will Ben do?
01:06:56Okay, um, well, uh, Sam is hidden.
01:07:01And so I think that what I would do if I were Sam is I would just go in as straight of a
01:07:07line as possible for 500 feet and then turn a corner.
01:07:11So I'm, I'm going to go, this, this street goes straight for quite a while here.
01:07:20You like could have turned a corner here, but I don't, I don't think that makes any sense.
01:07:26I'm like looking down and down.
01:07:30Um, oh wait, I think I see him.
01:07:40Yeah, Ben found him.
01:07:42Okay, well, I guess that maybe bought me five minutes.
01:07:46That was easy.
01:07:50Okay, nice job.
01:07:51Okay.
01:07:52Our brains are melded.
01:07:53Adam sent something.
01:07:56I'm, here, I'm going to give a hot take.
01:07:57I did some matching work.
01:07:58I found a match that is like a couple blocks that way.
01:08:01I think he's near.
01:08:03What, well, is it, is it, is he in our radar?
01:08:06Let's see.
01:08:07Oh, miss.
01:08:09Okay, so you're on.
01:08:10So we need to walk towards the other quadrant.
01:08:13Wait, do we want to ask something else?
01:08:15Oh, yes, I guess we can ask another question.
01:08:18Photo towards?
01:08:19Photo towards you.
01:08:20Yeah, I think that's, that's just a useful one.
01:08:23Yeah, okay.
01:08:31Oh, and before we forget, because we answered that radar, draw two cards.
01:08:38Ten minute bonus.
01:08:41Third.
01:08:42Oh, hoo, hoo.
01:08:44Mmm.
01:08:45Absolutely.
01:08:48Absolutely.
01:08:50Okay.
01:08:51Photo towards me.
01:08:53Another classic question, which is why I am in front of a super generic brick wall.
01:09:04Oh, we got a photo.
01:09:05Oh, we got a photo.
01:09:06He's in front of a brick wall that looks exactly like that.
01:09:12Kind of all of these houses are identical.
01:09:18Maybe we just go search through these streets, though.
01:09:20Because, like, this looks, I mean, that's the exact same shade of brick, right?
01:09:25As these?
01:09:26Yeah, I think so.
01:09:27And here's a data point, Ben.
01:09:29The sun is in his face.
01:09:31And specifically, it's to his left.
01:09:35So he's probably pointing that way.
01:09:37Okay.
01:09:38Good, good analysis.
01:09:40That's crazy.
01:09:40I'm basically rainbow.
01:09:41That's crazy.
01:09:42Okay.
01:09:43Let me?
01:09:43That's crazy.
01:09:44You just did that.
01:09:45Let's just go.
01:09:46Let's search some streets up first.
01:09:47Because maybe, you know, maybe the shade of the houses changes or something.
01:09:52Folks, they are approaching.
01:10:01We just have to hope that it takes them a while to get the right street.
01:10:07The question for us now, Ben, is, like, I mean, we can pretty clearly see all the way down.
01:10:12I think on a street like this, I actually don't see a spot that would match.
01:10:17No, like a clear spot with that much brick.
01:10:19Look, I don't think this seems right because these houses don't have, like, a clean bit of brick that big, right?
01:10:27At least not on the front of them.
01:10:30Do we want to ask another photo since it's only one card pull?
01:10:34I guess, like, I don't know if any photo would tell us anything.
01:10:37Maybe let's just go a little bit down the street because this is the really long one.
01:10:41Yeah, this doesn't look quite right.
01:10:43I don't think this is going to do anything.
01:10:49But let's make ourselves as small as we can be.
01:11:01This is definitely pointless.
01:11:04But we've got to do everything we can.
01:11:06I really feel like it's one of these houses.
01:11:14Also, because in that photo, there's one of those wires.
01:11:16Yeah.
01:11:17Those, like, coaxial cables running down the side.
01:11:20Mm-hmm.
01:11:21A lot of good-looking brick around here.
01:11:24Oh.
01:11:25And there's a good-looking Adam.
01:11:27And a lot of good-looking hider.
01:11:30Hey, guys.
01:11:31What's up?
01:11:31What's up?
01:11:31What's up?
01:11:32What's up?
01:11:33What's up?
01:11:35Oh, you guys like my, um, makeshift dead cat that I made for my microphone?
01:11:51Oh, yeah.
01:11:52Look at that.
01:11:53It was crazy windy here the other day.
01:11:56And I was like, it's going to ruin all my audio.
01:11:57So I bought a sponge and a sock and super glue at a convenience store.
01:12:04MacGyver.
01:12:05Cat.
01:12:05Benjamin.
01:12:06All right.
01:12:07Here are the cards.
01:12:08Thank you very much.
01:12:10I will see you all in five days.
01:12:15No, not this evening.
01:12:16Uh, hello.
01:12:34Welcome to my hiding zone.
01:12:38Sam and Adam, good luck.
01:12:40Welcome back to Jet Lag.
01:12:45We're really excited that you're watching this on Nebula.
01:12:47We always appreciate your support.
01:12:48You truly make this show possible.
01:12:50And that's why we are also doing Segway to Ben.
01:12:53Don't forget to listen to this week's episode of what?
01:12:56Just the phrasing is completely off, but it's fine.
01:12:59Keep going.
01:12:59Keep going.
01:13:00Keep going.
01:13:01The layover.
01:13:01Don't listen to the layover.
01:13:03Listen to our post-show podcast.
01:13:05And you can listen to it right here on Nebula.
01:13:07And at the end of these, we normally recommend something else to watch on Nebula.
01:13:10And I'm recommending Scav because I directed that dang thing.
01:13:13It's about the world's largest annual scavenger hunt.
01:13:15All of us produced it.
01:13:16We flew out there and filmed it.
01:13:18And I directed it.
01:13:19And it's real fun.
01:13:20Why not check it out?
01:13:21Bye.
