00:00it's a real scorcher here in Western Australia temperatures peaking at 39
00:06degrees Celsius here in Perth today and tomorrow on Christmas Day the mercury
00:10is expected to hit 40 degrees authorities have put in place a heat wave
00:15warning across the coastal and north interior regions of the state now it
00:21might be tempting to head out to the beach head to the water in these
00:24temperatures of course but authorities are urging Western Australians to take
00:28a bit of care especially during those peak afternoon temperatures dehydration
00:33and heat stroke of course very real risks authorities asking people to stay
00:38indoors if possible or in the shade in air conditioning and take a bit of care
00:42now hot temperatures are one thing strong winds are another and we're expecting to
00:48see both both today and tomorrow on Christmas Day meaning there are extreme
00:52fire danger ratings blanketing most of Western Australia and total fire bans in
00:58place in parts as well now talking about extreme weather we've seen some brewing
01:02off in the Indian Ocean the past few days we've been following very closely and
01:06officially today tropical cyclone grant has formed as a category one cyclone a
01:13hundred kilometer per hour winds are barreling through and we're expecting those
01:17to strengthen and pass through or near the Cocos Keeling Islands about 2,000
01:22kilometers off the coast of Western Australia about 600 people live there and
01:27we've seen some vision from the island already those waves are rolling in
01:31those strong winds and rains bucketing down authorities say there's no
01:36immediate risk or danger but are urging residents to take care keep their eyes
01:41eyes and ears peeled because of course weather is unpredictable
