00:00All right, it's your girl Lori Mack from 105 When The Bounce, and I am sitting here
00:03with a Detroit native, all right? He is the founder of Young Titan Mindset and a community
00:10leader doing big work across the city. Please welcome Shannon Williams. Hey, how y'all doing?
00:17What up, though? What up, though? Yeah, give me more energy than that. Oh, no, come on, now.
00:21Yeah, how you doing? Everything going good. How you doing? I'm doing good. I can't complain,
00:28a little hot, but I'm happy to be here. I'm hot, too. So, okay, so you got a lot of things
00:35going on. You're busy in the city. So you went from playing basketball overseas to becoming
00:40a mentor, connecting. When did that shift for you? Like, how was that? I got hurt when I
00:47was playing overseas, and I was a little upset, you know, because that's something I've been
00:51doing my whole life. Okay. So basically, like, after that happened, I was a little lost.
00:58Came back, tried to do transportation company and stuff like that, and then I just feel
01:03like God put it on my heart for me to do this, because I only have my non-profit for a year.
01:06I've always been helping people, but I feel like he ordering my steps, and it's just going.
01:13It's just lining up. I'm not forcing it.
01:15I like that.
01:16So all these connections I done made, it ain't me. So if anybody ever asks me, it ain't me.
01:22It's just not me.
01:24That's strong. I never heard that. I like that. So you say you just started, so it's really
01:27fresh.
01:28Yeah, and I had it for a year, and I got partnerships with some major people, like
01:33Magotten Harvest, Catholic Charities. I've been able to do some real good events, and
01:40I always give away, like, clothes, toys. Oh, the Marines toys for Tots. I actually just
01:45picked up from them two days ago. Probably about to pick up some more toys tomorrow,
01:50because I'm giving away my toys on Friday. So just, you know, like I said, letting God
01:57order my steps. I ain't perfect, but this is the one thing I got, one of the things I
02:01got right in my life with God, so.
02:03Oh, I love that. That's strong. That's powerful right there. Powerful statement. It is, with
02:08that, I just feel like it's hard. It's hard to not want to be a part of that, and you
02:13know everybody wants to be a part and support in what type of way. How can they
02:16do that? How can they support you?
02:19Well, they can go on my YouTube, but not on the YouTube, but my Young Type
02:24Mindset on IG. It's on all platforms. It should be TikTok, Facebook, but IG. I got
02:33the donation link in there. I can share that, but yeah, they can go on Young Type.
02:39And they can find it in the bio?
02:40Yeah, in the bio. And then they can just click the donation tab, and it'll go
02:44straight to it. Because a lot of this stuff being on my own, but God made a way, so.
02:49Always.
02:50I always come through and do what I was supposed to do.
02:53That's how you're here today.
02:55Yeah.
02:55And you got a big thing going on on the 22nd, right? Tell me about it.
02:58So, the goal was to feed 5,000 people. Rob Shoemaker Foundation.
03:06Nice.
03:06Just want to make sure I'm saying it correct. I hope I am. And they came to me with the idea,
03:13just they wanted me to get them the food. So, it was just try to feed, like I said, 5,000
03:19people. And I got told that in like three weeks, and I pulled it off. And like I said, I only
03:25have my non-profit a year, and I got a building and a whole lot of good stuff that just been
03:30coming my way.
03:31I love that. So, this is your first time passing out food or serving?
03:35Oh, no. This ain't my first time.
03:36Oh, no? Oh, it's not your first rodeo? Okay, tell me about it.
03:38No, it's not my first rodeo. That's why he came to me and asked me, because I had a lot.
03:42I already been doing giveaways. I give away food all the time.
03:45Okay. When did you start? Like, how? Like, when did this start for you?
03:49I started my basketball league. That's where I made the front page of the newspaper last year.
03:53Oh, he talked to it. You said last year?
03:55Yeah. What up, though, with that? I had did some. It was real nice. It was a successful
04:00season. Like, a real success. I got guys overseas. I got them opportunities to play overseas.
04:06Some of them still playing. So, that's like, I was good that I was able to help them chase
04:10their dream or at least get their foot in the door.
04:12Yeah, because I know that you help a lot of athletes and young men secure jobs and opportunities
04:17overseas. What is the exposure beyond Detroit so important? Like, why is it so important to
04:23just go beyond? Because when I, like I said, when I lived overseas, I will say, just seeing
04:29the different dynamics of life all over the world and just seeing, like, what you should
04:37be appreciative of. And I think we take a lot of stuff for granted. And I'm trying to reach
04:41everywhere because I only can do what I can do. I don't focus on what other people can do
04:46because I ain't got nothing to say about what other people can do.
04:49Because I ain't got nothing. That ain't my lane. I stay in my lane. If anybody helping,
04:55I'm happy they helping. I ain't here for all that. It's just, I just want to do what I
04:59can do. Like, so as many people God had me to touch, I'm going to touch. And what ain't
05:05for me, ain't for me.
05:06Listen, you're doing God's work.
05:08Yeah.
05:09One day at a time.
05:10One day at a time.
05:11Too modest for me.
05:13No, yeah, I'm doing, you know, I'm doing, I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. Only thing
05:17that's, like, lagging is I just need to get the grants. Once I get access to the grants,
05:23I'll be able to do a whole lot more stuff. I got a whole lot of stuff I'm doing now,
05:27but that'll give me the, you know.
05:30So that's the next step for you, grants.
05:31Grants and I, or people donating, that helped me a lot.
05:35Okay, listen.
05:36And then they can see where their money going.
05:38Like, tell them, all it takes is a dollar.
05:39Yeah.
05:39Okay, just take a dollar.
05:40If I could get a thousand people to give a dollar, two dollars, I'm cool.
05:45You know, you ain't got to give me a trillion dollars. If we could get a thousand people
05:49to give me ten dollars, that's going to go towards, we could help some kids, help some
05:53communities, and a whole lot of other stuff we can do.
05:58Yes.
05:58Trying to do transitional housing, too. I'm trying to get into that.
06:01Oh, wow. Look, that'd be really dope. Because I know that a lot of people need housing,
06:05especially transitional.
06:06You know what I'm saying? It's hard to come by.
06:08It is hard to come by.
06:09So I'm with you on that. And you know, with you doing your nonprofit and everything, you
06:13know, what does a Titan mindset actually mean to you?
06:17So the reason why I came up with that name is when I went to Chicago and played basketball
06:28in college, I just seen like, just went, because if you only know your environment, your mind
06:35go. So a lot of people come home and they be like, no, they stupid. No, they ain't stupid.
06:40That's just, they didn't see nothing else to change their mindset on what is out here other
06:46than what they see. So they only going off what they see. If you take them out the element.
06:49Right. So I'll give you a story. So I went overseas and I was in a, I just say I was in
06:54the club. We having a good time. Okay. Boom. I'm chilling. You know, in Detroit, you
06:58staying there, you, you looking tough the whole time. You worried somebody step on your
07:02shoes, you know, somebody, you know, or somebody. Right. We may observe it. We may observe it.
07:06We may observe and everything. You don't dance. Like you blame. Yeah. Nobody dance.
07:10All right. So the little, the Latino people, like they just having a good time. Just dance.
07:15They're like, man, you can't be in here doing that. You got to loosen up. So once I stopped
07:20getting the, the, the little thing and like caring about what people say and cause you,
07:25they going to talk regardless. So it's just getting out there and just having fun. But back
07:29to what you said about the mindset part. It was just, when you go see different things
07:33and go experience different stuff, you change the, your mindset will change because you
07:38will see there's more stuff out here than what you're seeing. Like, just like we taught
07:42like, Hey, don't drive without no license. Cause you think it's cool. It ain't cool. You
07:47just creating problems for yourself that you don't even need to or, or walking around with
07:52an illegal weapon when you could get a legal one. Facts. So we got to, it's just the mindset
07:58of making stuff smarter or even, I know we really need to talk about this.
08:03Life insurance. A lot of people don't have life insurance. Should never see a GoFundMe.
08:08Yeah. But you can go pick up a blunt or go buy a bottle of liquor. And it's the same amount as
08:13that. It's because a lot of people don't know, you know, with life insurance, you don't know,
08:17you don't qualify, you know, you think like you, you got all these problems, but yet that doesn't
08:22qualify you for life insurance. You know, you gotta be something small to be like, Oh yeah,
08:26you can make it. So it's, I definitely feel you. I feel you on that. And it's hard. It's why it's good
08:31to have voices. You know what I'm saying? People that can advocate for that and show
08:34us the way. Cause you know, a lot of us is lost, you know, so that's a good way to put
08:41it. You know, it's a lot. It's a lack of Jesus. Yeah. So anytime I get a chance to talk, get
08:47on a platform, I'm going to say, first of all, uh, Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.
08:53I know that's right. He, he, I make a lot of mistakes. I did a lot of stuff wrong,
08:58but that ain't get wrong. And I can see it right now. I could feel it just with everything
09:03that you're saying. You're doing good things. Just like on a 22nd. Yeah. That's gone.
09:07That's going to be nice. So, you know, people don't want to volunteer. They're going to
09:10want to help. Is that a possibility or the, can they help? Oh no. Oh yeah. Hey, hey, come
09:14on down there. Come on down there. Where can they go to find out? Find your socials
09:19and help you out on it. Oh, same thing. Young type mindset on Gmail. Oh, on Gmail too. Young
09:27type mindset or they can, like I said, the best way to get in contact with me would be
09:31Instagram. Okay. Cause I, I like, I accept them and send them and they can just do whatever
09:37they got to do to contact me. But I say email too. Email is probably the best way. Either
09:41them. No, but I say either them two, Instagram or Gmail. I like that. I like that. Okay.
09:48Yeah. So you already heard it. Got to get with them. You got to make sure you go out there.
09:50What time does it start? Oh, that's from two to 10. Two to 10. No, two, two. No, my bad.
09:57Scratch that. Oh, okay. We scratching it. It's 10 to seven. 10 to seven. Okay. I'm going
10:02to say that's all day. I was going to say it was all night, but it's all day. 10 to seven.
10:07Okay. It's some vendors going to be down there. It's a whole lot of stuff going on down
10:11there. And so they're going to have free HIV testing. Um, uh, what's that? It's all,
10:18all the STD testing. Cause that was my next question before we got here. I want to know
10:21what, what can people expect when they come out on the 22nd? So you, we're going to have
10:25that down there. It's going to be some other vendors down there. Uh, I don't know all the
10:29vendors, but it's going to be some more vendors down there. But yeah, it's, it's, I just
10:35think everybody should come out cause it's going to be real nice and it's for you. It's for
10:39the people. So everybody always want help. And I know everybody doing stuff and I just
10:45think this, it'd be a really good event. If everybody show up, get the food, have a good
10:48time. Yeah. Uh, pretty sure it's going to be a whole lot of people, but if we get 5,000
10:54people, that's, that's going to be really, real, real big for this. Oh, I already know.
10:58Look, if you say it was free, it's for me. That's what they do. So no, that's how you do it.
11:02And what would you say, you know, what advice would you give to somebody that has a big
11:07heart and they have a nonprofit, but no idea where to start?
11:12Um, first of all, get, get in contact with people that's trying to, that know what they
11:16doing. First of all, if you don't know how to sign up and get your 501 3C, go to somebody
11:21that can help you. But if you trying to do it and it's for the right reasons, I say do
11:26it. Cause a lot of people try to do it. Um, thinking they going to get grant money and
11:31they're like, Oh, you ain't getting no grants. Oh, it's that easy. No, it ain't that easy.
11:34Oh, it's not. It's a, you got to account for the money and some other stuff you got
11:37to do. They just see it on TV and be like, Oh, you can get free money. Yeah.
11:42No, it ain't that easy. You got to work for it. But yeah, it's a process.
11:45You got to figure that out. I don't, you know, I ain't like that.
11:48Okay. Listen, I want to play one more thing before we go. Okay. I want you to fill in the
11:52blank. All right. Okay. A Titan mindset is God. Oh, I like that. God.
12:01That's what you're going to leave me with. You're going to leave me with God. Statement
12:05powerful. I like that. Okay. Shannon, thank you so much for taking the time coming out here
12:10and talking to me. Now make sure you shout out everybody real quick.
12:14Wait, hold on. So let me, I got, I got to make sure I get everybody. Let's go down the
12:18list. Oh, we got a list. I like it. I like it.
12:20A big list. Okay. But we don't. Okay. So we don't, we don't start with, um, Krista cares.
12:27She the one gave me the idea to do my, um, 5013C. Monica, GDI, um, um, tax girl. That's
12:41Charmaine. Uh, my sister going to get mad if I don't mention her. So I say my sister,
12:47Yeru, Keela, and my mama, Carolyn. I got like three more people. Auto for introducing me.
12:54Well, Darcelle, I met her at an event and she introduced me to her husband. His name
13:00is Auto at executive protection. Um, and they introduced me so I can get my building,
13:07like, uh, get the building and stuff. So that was a good, uh, connection. Um, uh, the
13:13Greenfield Plaza cause they, I did a grant. So we did a grant this past weekend. We gave
13:18away some, well, not this week, but the weekend before we gave away some money.
13:23Oh, wow. And that was real nice. Yeah. To some nonprofits. It was a pitch competition.
13:27First it was at, um, and Ms. Reynolds for giving me the opportunity to take a chance on me to
13:33have the building so I could have a pantry there. Oh. Uh, oh, look, cause I ain't, I really
13:39don't want to forget nobody. Um, said Krista and Tracy, her name, Tracy Stuckey. She come
13:49help all the time. Don't, don't cut me off. Hold up. Hold up. I want to make sure. Everybody
13:56don't cuss me out. Uh, sugar, honey, iced tea. Uh, that's who's bringing the, um, the
14:04HIV clinic and all that stuff for the free testing. Um, hold on. Kelly. She don't, she
14:16look at him, but Kelly. The best publicist in around the city. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
14:22Kelly Sane. Yeah. Kelly Sane. She got me this interview and I want to thank her. Uh, and
14:29Dice. Oh, that's who she. Dice Clark. My man. Dice Clark. Yes. Yes. Give him a shout
14:34out. Um, hold on, y'all. I gotta make sure I can't forget nobody. Don't. What? Wait.
14:46All right. Hold on. Cause I think it's just two more people. Okay. Boom. Boom. Cause they
14:56don't cuss me out. If I don't, um, I say, no, that's probably it. That's probably it.
15:07That's it. And then say, if you didn't, if you didn't say it, you know, it's all love
15:12anyway. It's all love. Everybody showed me and gave me support. So. Absolutely. And then
15:18why you there is what you said you dropped a support, drop some details again. Yeah.
15:22It dropped. So December 22nd, try it. We going, the goal is to feed 5,000 people. It's going
15:29to be a big event at Burks 27, 27 Russell street downtown. So, um, what time? 10 to
15:38seven. There we go. And we're going to have a good time. We're going on down there. Get
15:43you some free food. I'm going to have clothes. Uh, it's free testing, free testing. And y'all
15:49need to go down there, but no, but we don't have, I'm going to have free clothes and probably
15:54some shoes and stuff. So just a way to get the community together for sure. Yeah. So
15:59definitely come out support. Oh, also, also I'm going to have a, if they ain't got no
16:04health insurance, they'd be down there for some health insurance too. Oh, see. So more
16:07reason to go out there and support, come out, do the right thing and do something for your
16:12people. Shannon, thank you so much for coming and spending your time with me just for a little
16:16bit. And again, I wish you nothing but success. Of course. All right. Your girl, Lori Mack.
16:22I wonder if I want to bounce.
