00:00And we're back. It is the
00:01be in play. And we are o
00:06village because baby, the
00:08is officially here and we
00:11the man who helped us crea
00:13today. Jim Johnson is with
00:17of Greenfield Village cura
00:20structures and landscapes
00:21time. Well, thank you. Yeah
00:24to do. Yeah, it's an amaz
00:30sort of the cherry on top
00:31that allowed us to bring
00:34home here, finish it, re
00:37as we have been able to and
00:40So question for you, bec
00:41Greenfield Village, obviously
00:43you can just come any day
00:45of the week and have a great
00:46all of the homes, all the
00:49what does it mean to bring
00:51for the first time in a long
00:53and have to plan around that
00:55what does that mean? It's
00:57really very exciting as I
01:00believe the last historic
01:02home we brought here was the
01:03Firestone Farm in 1985. So
01:05it's been more than 40 years.
01:07We've brought other
01:08structures, but haven't
01:09been houses, you know, the
01:10recreating someone's home,
01:12especially someone who's still
01:14living. It's been a great
01:17challenge and really just the
01:21Joanna has been such an asset
01:22to us to be able to accurately
01:25sort of pull things together.
01:26And she gave us, you know,
01:28the full on stamp of approval
01:29for, you know, how it has
01:31turned out. So you've had your
01:32hands in so much of this
01:34incredible event. Besides just
01:36bringing the Jackson home here,
01:37you have this entire block
01:38party that's here until five.
01:40What has been your favorite
01:41part of today or the entire
01:44weekend? Like what is really
01:45getting you excited that you have
01:46here? Just we're just, we've
01:49been able to work with some
01:50local wonderful musicians. So there's
01:53just amazing music out here throughout
01:55the day. Just fantastic. And what
02:00I love that we do here, we do
02:02these historical vignettes where
02:04it's a, we pick a time and place,
02:06the subject matter, and we kind
02:07of do a step in immersive
02:09experience for folks. So they
02:10can go in and talk to our staff
02:12who offer our dress and period
02:13clothing of the time period. And,
02:16you know, just sort of get into
02:18it, their photo ops and ways to
02:19sort of learn more about certain
02:20aspects. So we have brought in a
02:241956 GMC bus, which was the bus
02:27that was used on the interstate
02:28bus lines. That's cool. And we
02:31have set up a vignette that shows
02:34folks getting ready to get on the
02:36bus to go to Mississippi. Wow. So
02:39all of this obviously was a long
02:42time in the making. How important
02:45moment is it later on today when
02:47Joanna talks, how important moment
02:49is that for you and for everyone
02:50that kind of worked towards this
02:52moment? Because she's the one.
02:55Yeah, absolutely. That's, that's
02:57kind of one of the must-see
02:59things of the weekend is to be
03:00able to sort of hear Joanna
03:02firsthand and hear her thoughts
03:04about, you know, what, what she
03:07saw as a very young child, but she
03:09has very distinct memories of her
03:10Uncle Miles there at the home. And,
03:13you know, how things have changed
03:14and the work that she did to preserve
03:16that story in that home. And then
03:17the entire almost miraculous
03:19process that allowed her to
03:22connect with us and then to have
03:24this come together like it did. Yeah.
03:26That's very cool. I just feel
03:29like being here, especially in a
03:31city like Detroit with so much
03:33history already, the fact that
03:34you can, what, drive maybe 20
03:36minutes away from downtown and
03:37experience something like this
03:39is truly incredible. So I feel
03:40like we've given a lot of people
03:42reasons of why to come, but I
03:43feel like it will hit different
03:44from you. So why does everyone
03:46need to come before 5 p.m.
03:48today to Greenfield Village
03:49if they've already come to
03:50Greenfield Village for the
03:51summer? Like why should they
03:52come today? So there's just
03:54the array of things that we're
03:55doing this weekend are pretty
03:56special. Just because of the
03:58way the calendar falls, the
04:00official day of Juneteenth is
04:01happening like next week. Yeah. And
04:05so what we're doing now and this is
04:07our, we've been doing this for several
04:09years. This is really our lifted up
04:11Juneteenth celebration this weekend.
04:14Not only commemorating the
04:15Jackson home, but you know, just
04:18the amazing black history, which is
04:20American history. Yeah. I have one
04:23last question for you. I know
04:24you're busy and it's a busy day.
04:26What is the most unexpected thing
04:29that you've had happen this
04:30weekend? I weather barring and all
04:32that kind of stuff, you know,
04:34because I know we have a bubble over
04:36and we're all got our fingers crossed.
04:39You know, it's not an uncommon
04:41occurrence for a giant storm to
04:43suddenly split and go either side
04:45of Greenfield Village. So we're
04:47hoping for that today. To be honest
04:50with you, one of the more
04:51unexpected things with spending a
04:53lot of time with Iris Gordy is we
04:55get. It was the niece of Barry Gordy,
04:57a good friend of Joanna Jackson and
05:00she she's just here for the weekend.
05:02So as you were just hanging out. So
05:03yeah. Now I need to go ahead. Wait,
05:06can we see her friend? Come on back
05:07on. That is crazy. Jim, thank you so
05:11much. Not just for sitting down with
05:13us today, but for making sure that
05:15everybody that experiences Greenfield
05:16Village today has just a magical
05:18experience. Yeah. And it's amazing
05:19place. Don't postpone. Come on out.
05:21You know, we hear that a lot. You know
05:23that, well, I was there in fifth grade
05:24or maybe someone comes from out of town
05:26and might bring them. This is a
05:27national treasure in our backyard.
