00:00This time on Rides Down Under, Aussie Truckers.
00:26We meet father and son trucking team, Rocky and Daniel Princey.
00:30Then head to Wandon Valley Farm to load freshly picked cherries and get them to market on
00:35time.
00:36Don drops into Pearl Craft to check out the custom interior parts for the 610 Kenworth
00:41Field.
00:42But first up, work continues at Diesel Doctor as Nicole adds the silverback front flares
00:48to the newly named Golden Eagle.
00:56We're trying to design the back bump bar at the moment.
01:06We usually go for the one piece bump bar for the lights across.
01:10But once again, this is going at the Outback, rough roads.
01:14So I've told Nicole what I want to design is separate pieces.
01:17So don't want it to, but if something gets damaged, hit a roo, anything like that, doesn't
01:22know what it is, we change section by section.
01:24So Nicole's come up with this little design down here, if you want to lift it up Nicole.
01:31Section of lights, we'll still drop it down a little bit, but this will be our section
01:35of a bump bar each side, so obviously they'll be uniformed on the other side.
01:39And we have the ice pack in the middle, which pursues just a little bit.
01:43So we'll come up for another section here, so it'll be a three piece back bump bar.
01:48So anything happens, whatever, we can change whatever we want at the time.
01:53So one, two, three, but the designs are all different.
01:57So we've come up with the design for each side, now we can try to figure something for
02:01the middle.
02:02So I still like my lights, so we'll dress it up with lights and chrome and just see what
02:09Nicole comes up with.
02:10We've got to put a little thinking cap on and we'll go from there, eh?
02:14Yeah, that's the fun part.
02:16I've also designed the sidebars so they don't sit out as far, so it's less likely that it's
02:24going to get hit.
02:25So, I mean, this is going to be a working truck.
02:28And that's my first and foremost, I want to make sure the drivers can access it and they
02:32can fix it on the side of the road if they need to, and it's just easy to maintain.
02:40I'm making polis my guts, so we don't have the poles that will come out.
02:46They'll dip down and they'll be attached to the chassis.
02:50So they really need to be very strong because they've got to withstand a lot of corrugated,
02:57rough roads, heavy loads, all of that stuff.
02:59So I've made it out of a 5mm thick 75 by 50 tube.
03:06I've got a 10mm plate which has been cut to measure exactly on the holes there.
03:12But that's, so that's going to sit, that will sit there like that.
03:26And then obviously the pole, which you won't see, which will come out here.
03:30So that comes straight down and the pole will come out at a 90 degree angle to the plate.
03:46I've made these flares to fit on the steers of the truck here.
03:53We are going to offset these wheels, so when they come out a little bit more they're going
03:58to look really good.
03:59And that's why I wanted to go with this particular type of flare.
04:04When we put it on though, it just stuck out so far, this bit here.
04:09While it's alright at the front because it sort of aligns with the front bar, the back
04:14here just sort of stuck out.
04:15So I just created a little stainless steel piece and it just fits perfectly.
04:21I actually really love how it turned out.
04:31Now we've got a little bit of play so we can align it so that the two look the same and that
04:42the heights are the same as well.
04:46So as this is one of Don's first new crime movies that he's ever got, we're really having
04:53a little bit of focus on making sure that we take good care of it, that we maintain it
04:58and look after it.
04:59So one of the ideas that Don came up with, and because he also had it on his dad's truck,
05:04so it's a little bit nostalgic for him as well, is putting the perspex back in to protect the
05:11lights and from stone chips and stuff.
05:13So that'll be sitting in behind here, which we'll bolt in, we'll probably do, we'll probably
05:21tap in the screws.
05:23We'll have an aluminium border around the back so it looks like it's meant to be there.
05:26We'll frame the perspex using the aluminium, which we'll polish as well, obviously, to maintain
05:32the uniformity across the front bar.
05:35And that'll slide in there, and then that will bolt onto the bar itself.
05:40You know what?
05:41It's pretty good.
05:42I can't complain.
05:43That's good.
05:44Here we go, ching-ching.
05:46Salute!
05:47Coming up, we catch up with Rocky and Daniel Princey from Princey Transport.

06:54When you purchase a machine from Hair & Forbes Machinery House, it's not just a sale.
06:59It's a partnership.
07:00Do you agree, Tessabee and I, Donny there and Maria and Jess, I've known them for,
07:24I couldn't even tell you how long.
07:26A long time, you know.
07:28And Donny's a bit of a character, so we have a bit of a banter between each other.
07:33You know, Daniel's 15, my son Daniel's 15, and they've seen him pretty much born.
07:38Donny and Daniel, like, they get along like a house on fire.
07:42Daniel, one question, mate.
07:44What's the better-looking truck?
07:45TCB or yours?
07:47Probably mine.
07:48S***!
07:49Yeah, it's really good to see how Daniel and Donny get along.
07:54And they have a bit of a banter between themselves.
07:57We're very close, you know, and I think we'll be close to the day we're dying.
08:06I work with Wondon Valley Farms.
08:08I'm a sixth generation of this family business that grows cherries in this region for over 100 years in the Yarra Valley.
08:16We've grown cherries, plums, apples in this region for over 100 years.
08:20The first documented cherry-growing experience around here was in 1893 by, I think, my three-times-great-grandfather, Henry.
08:28And we've been growing cherries since then in the family.
08:30We've already had a couple of B-doubles in.
08:35They've come from the farm in Bowyer.
08:37They've already unloaded cherries and reloaded empty fruit bins to go back.
08:40We're empty at the moment, so we're going to set up for market for tonight and export.
08:45So what we've got to do is trucks, they run up to Bowyer.
08:48We do it early in the morning, so we're sort of loading about midnight, 1 o'clock in the morning.
08:52It's the best time.
08:53So we get the fruit here, say, between 6 and 7.
08:57So these guys can put in a cool room.
08:59There's all different varieties, so then they know what they're packing for the day.
09:03So then if we run late and the packers are sitting here, well, they've got nothing to do.
09:08We've got to be here so these guys are ready to rock and roll.
09:11So when the workers come in, there's fruit on the packing machine, you know, ready to be packed.
09:16So when we come in with doubles, sometimes we come in singles, but the majority is B-doubles.
09:20We come in, we've backed that B-double up.
09:23Normally what we do is we unload the B-trailer first with fruit, load it up with empty bins,
09:28take it off the dock, disconnect it, put the A on, unload, reload, hook up the A-trailer back to the B,
09:35just sort of go back to the yard and sort of park it up for the day
09:38and sort of start again at 10 o'clock at night and trucks go.
09:41It depends on what we're doing, what the season is.
09:44Normally during the day they're parked up a bit, but they work in the evenings onwards and right through the night.
09:49Wondon Valley Farms is a family owned business.
09:53We have three, four orchards.
09:56We've been dealing with Rocky for a long time now.
09:58Rocky, we've grown together.
10:00Our businesses have both sort of developed over time and Rocky's, he's really looked after us.
10:05He values our product, he values us and making sure that he's doing the best thing by our fruit
10:13and delivering it in the best cool chain environment that's required.
10:19And also travelling at times, you know, that aren't always conducive,
10:23but making sure we've always got fruit here to pack and delivering it safely and coolly
10:29and in a timely fashion.
10:31He also takes our fruit into the market, to the airport.
10:34Today we've been carping cherries back from the farm where they grow them,
10:47bring them back to here, the sorting shed.
10:49And then we unload them, they take them into the cool room,
10:53load empty bins back onto the truck and then we head up again tonight.
10:57Once you get to know it, you've still got to earn it a bit,
11:02but there's a lot of hills coming up in Dewwandan and tight driveways and tight loading docks.
11:08But once you know it, it all just becomes the second nature, so yeah, keeps it interesting.
11:14Yeah, just work for Princey in the harvest season, just keeps it pretty busy through then.
11:18Summer and, you know, part time through when it's in the haze on as well.
11:22So I'll jump in there a bit and help out.
11:24Fruit, you've got to keep it temperature controlled.
11:27It all comes out of the cool room, so you've got to keep it,
11:29have the van bodies cool already.
11:33But as for that, it's pretty straightforward.
11:36As long as you're on time, they're happy.
11:38Up on the full weight, sort of 62 tonnes, so yeah, so we're always going heavy.
11:42So what comes in here, we'll go into market tonight or for export.
11:47See the fruit market out at Epping and depending which export place they've chosen for the year,
11:52that's where we'll go, go overseas.
11:54Yeah, I've been driving trucks for about 30 years, yeah.
11:57Just love it, love the trucks, love just getting out on the road and, you know,
12:01being with other mates and, yeah, it's good fun.
12:04Start last night, head up to the farm with a trailer load of empty bins.
12:08Get up there, forklift's up there and a forklift driver and unload all the empty bins.
12:13Straight away, they're chucking the full bins out of, they've just been hand-picked that day.
12:19So it's literally picked into the cool room, straight into the truck and then we bring them
12:25first thing in the morning here, they unload it and they start packing it tonight.
12:29They've got a big crew up there, so imagine it'd be like, you know, 40 degree a day,
12:32it'd be pretty hot stuck out in those trees, but they do a good job, all the hand-pickers,
12:35they just come in and smash it out.
12:37Well, I'll jump out and get on the fork and help them out, so it just makes the process quicker.
12:41I don't like standing around, so yeah, drive, come here, help out, hop on the fork,
12:46so yeah, that's all good fun.
12:50Been driving trucks for a little while around the farm, unhooking, re-hooking up trailers to trucks
12:57and organising paperwork and yeah, Dad lets me drive a bit around the yard or on the farm.
13:05I want to take over the show and run it, take it off Dad's hands.
13:10I'm 15, just about 16, yeah, just love doing it all the time and couldn't be around it anymore.
13:17So yeah, we needed to bring the B-doubles around, unhook the B, put the A on the dock,
13:23put the B on the dock, unload, reload, re-hook up the B-double, move that away
13:29and then do it for the next B-double and then the next one.
13:32They'll go all around Australia and some will even go overseas.
13:36We do a lot for this company, for Warner Valley Farms.
13:39See a lot of drivers come around here and still think I could do it a bit better.
13:55Next we catch up with all the action for the 610 Kenworth build.
14:01Jansis Equipment is a distributor for global leading brands such as Bendback, Sturtle Coney,
14:15Fiesbath. So we spy hoist lifting equipment, specialised testing equipment throughout Australia
14:21in all segments, whether it's a car dealership right the way through to a car enthusiast,
14:26or a truck dealership right the way through to truck enthusiast.
14:29The difference we see with the Bendback hoist is not just with the ergonomical technology
14:34that we use when we're operating the hoist and lifting the hoist, it's all about safety and longevity.
14:39We can put anyone under the hoist and we know they're safe.
14:42With the Bendback hoist, there's no complicated buttons to use.
14:46When we want the hoist to go up, we press the button.
14:48In return then when we want to lower the hoist down, it's just a matter of lifting the handle
14:52and that releases the safety locks. We just press the button and it steadily brings that car down.
14:59In our Bendback range, we have the two-post hoist, which is very, very popular, but we do the
15:04four-post hoist, and that's anything from a car to a truck in the four-post range. So the versatility
15:09for whatever you're using in any type of application in a workshop, we've got the hoist there to accommodate that.
15:15So this week we've got all hands on deck, this 610 SAR. We're trying to do a review on this weekend coming.
15:32I think we've got about three days to go and I've got everyone here. I've got Nicole and her team,
15:36Desert Doctor. I've got the other side of Desert Doctor Mechanics trying to recreate exhaust systems here.
15:41I've got electricians here. I've got sign riders here. I've got everybody here trying to get this thing done.
15:47It's a special truck for us. It's a special edition. We've called it the Golden Eagle, hence why we've
15:52made another Eagle here, which is gold, not like the other trucks we have. Big shout out to Exotic Graphics.
15:58I rang little Nick to get this Eagle done. I gave him one day. He thought I was a blue joker, but I was
16:04pretty serious and don't know what, for all credit. One day you've done this design, printed this Eagle.
16:10I can't believe it. It was someone's good idea to put a new exhaust on. I don't know who that was,
16:16it was probably me, which is becoming a real headache. Brackets don't fit, so much modification to do.
16:23But you know what, I've got to thank the guys from Silverback. They have come to the party and
16:28give me these exhaust systems, a nice chrome 8-inch exhaust. So the general ones are, I'll put that
16:35away to a little present at the moment. They usually come in 5-inch. I want 8-inch straight up, so
16:42it's a bigger task than I thought. So this is really stressing me out at the moment. I'm not really sure
16:46this is going to get done, but we've got to work back. I have to get it done now. This truck will go
16:52for this weekend. So this is a 610SAR, so the whole exhaust system is different to another
16:58conventional truck. So I've never seen it done on this particular model. So hopefully, fingers
17:04crossed, that we've got to come off the first system to fit this exhaust up. This is an 8-inch,
17:08as I said. It comes down to 5-inch. We've got an extra size, but it's everything. Modifying,
17:15dropping the exhaust system down below the cab, because the 8-inch fits the actual cab. So we're
17:20going to drop it down, redo the brackets. It's actually a little bit too short to fit the Y-section,
17:25so we extend the Y-section underneath the cabin. And then all the bracketry on the side of the cab,
17:31completely different. Nothing suits, nothing matches, which is fine, but it's just all modifications.
17:37Hands full at the moment to do this, and hopefully it all works out.
17:47So these are the brackets that come with the truck. So these basically bolt onto the side of the cabin
17:53up there. So you can see the dynamic is only 5-inch. Silverback, good friends of mine, come up with a
18:008-inch bracket. So that's the 8-inch, and that's what I want on the truck. You can tell the size
18:05difference. Once that's clamped up, we'll have the 8-inch exhaust, but it's not that easy. These holes
18:12here don't match these holes, for an example. So we have to cut and shut that, put that on the truck,
18:22put the exhaust on, go to the next bracket, and the next bracket underneath the truck. So
18:27it is a task. I must admit, I don't usually get stressed out, but at the moment, I think the blood
18:33pressure's going right through the head here, and we've got to get it done there. We can't come back
18:37now, because everything's apart. So we've just got to make this happen. But you know what, that's what
18:42we do, isn't it? Makes it fun. We've spent a lot of time and effort in this truck. Sionite is different
18:50to this one, where we've put all gold, 23 karat gold leaf, Sionite on this truck all over it. We've put
18:57the Golden Eagle, so it's completely different to what we do for other standard TCB trucks. I've gone all
19:04out. Got things happening on the fuel tanks, the back bumpers to get the wrapped as well. Oh, so much.
19:09The steel wall doesn't come. The ear knob doesn't come. Nothing's coming in. I've got a funny feeling
19:14everything's going to come in at once. It's just going to go bang, bang, bang, hands on. Let's just
19:18do it, get into it. We've got to make sure we do it right and safely too.
19:24Well, the piece driving this truck's a little bit different as well. As I said, it's all gold leaf.
19:28I've actually put the number 97 on the bonnet, and people ask me why it's 97. So that's when
19:33TCB was established, 1997. So this is a special truck. Put 97 on it, so people will know that's
19:39when we started, and hopefully the next generation takes it through. After my time, who knows? And
19:45we'll just follow on. TCB taking care of business. Once it's revealed, we'll be going up north to
19:50start doing road train work. But it's fiddled out. I mean, driver comfort. It's got two fridges in it,
19:55TV, microwave, ice pack on it, which is a heater and air conditioner for the bunk. I had none of that
20:01when I was driving. I had a window, heater, air conditioning. That was it. So the driver's
20:07can't complain. Give them more comfort. They rest better, and they perform better during the day.
20:11So that's what it's all about. My choice of truck is Kenworth. I've always had good runs out of
20:15Kenworth. The reliability. It's just a man's truck. That's my opinion only. It's a man's truck. And
20:22when you're sitting behind a badge or a Kenworth, you know you're driving. So that's the feel I like,
20:26driving. Yeah, so at this stage, we're just going to go, go, go. And hopefully, by the end of the week,
20:30it's done, and we have a good, nice reveal, and hopefully everyone enjoys it. That's what it's
20:34all about. Other people enjoying the product we do, and we all can share the love. It's great.
20:48Yeah, so this week's a really busy week for us. Apart from putting the 610 SAR on the road,
20:53the logistics side's very busy. I've got a friend of mine, Vinnie Raffa, with Raffa Fields,
20:59they're very big in asparagus. Just purchased 40 huts that take out of Footscray to Turridan
21:05in a short amount of time, and we're really under the pump this week. This week's been
21:09absolutely full on, from the delivery side to maintenance side to modification side. It's just
21:18crazy, absolutely crazy this week. These huts are oversized, so they're 3 metres by 12 metres,
21:22so every load's oversized. There's 40 of them, as I said. So you've only got curfew times as well,
21:28so trying to throw as many trucks as we can on it, because we only have a short amount of time to
21:33do it, and hopefully the weather holds out as well. So if it rains, deep trouble, because we can't get
21:38it on site and things like that. So that's the only thing in construction. Weather-dependent.
21:43Vinnie's a very good friend of mine, and he asked for some help, and I was gladly to give him some
21:50advice how to do it, and we jumped on board and went and did some site inspections and make sure
21:55it's all good, and we're on our way. Yeah, so TCB Desert Doctor this week is absolutely crazy,
22:00but you know what? It pumps me up. That's what I like. It gives me adrenaline, and you know, we just do it.
22:06Coming up, we head to Pearl Craft to get a look at the new interior pieces for the 610 Enworth.
22:26Hi, I'm Colin. If you're looking for tyres, mechanical service, or just general advice,
22:30come on down to Mooney Ponds Tyres. We offer a full range of servicing from tyres to brakes to all
22:35sorts of general mechanical repairs. Every vehicle will get an inspection to make sure the vehicle
22:40is safe. In terms of tyres, we do a large range of tyres from the smallest lawnmower tyre, right the
22:45way up to the largest earthmover tyre. We do wheel alarmants, we do batteries. Anytime you need any tyres,
22:51just come and see us.
23:05So this morning we're at Pearl Craft in Pakenham. Come and see good friends of mine, Pat and Sam.
23:16They've got a little project for me that they're doing on the 610 SAR, so I'm really excited to see
23:21the progress. TCB and Desert Doctor and Pearl Craft, we all team up and we help each other out, so I'll give
23:26them referrals, they give me referrals, and I like their product. It's absolutely brilliant. I've put them
23:31right through all my equipment, so it just gives that shine, cool look.
23:41So down at Pearl Craft, as you know, I found Pat. He was pretending to hide down the back there
23:45somewhere. Pretend to be busy, but I don't think he was doing anything at all, so come and check up on
23:49my gear, Pat. How you going, mate? Yeah, good mate. Self? I'm putting the pressure on, but I'm
23:53coming uniform, Pat. I'm wearing your hat soon. Good man, good man. I'm sure he's making me pay for
23:57this somewhere along the line, I'm telling you. It's good, so Pat's going to show us around today
24:03and give us a bit of a tour of what he does and how he does it. Dom, we're doing the steering wheel,
24:08we're doing the rails, so the 610 has the four rails, front and back of the cab, and we're also
24:13doing the Eaton extension. Eaton and the extension and the base cover on the floor, all in velvet red.
24:19And we'll give you a bit of an rundown of what we do, but yeah, how we do it's kind of been a secret
24:23for a long time, but we'll be able to show you some sort of before and afters and yeah.
24:27That's why they call them the Colonel. That's it.
24:41All right, so we've got the rails here, they're just getting to the stage of getting ready to polish,
24:45all the heavy lifting's done, and now we're getting to the polishing and clear coating of the rails.
24:50Sweet. So how does it all happen? Obviously, I gave you this bare plastic material, wasn't it?
24:56Yep. These are metal, so then we prep it all, ready for us, for our application,
25:00and then it's a hand applied resin that encapsulates the rails. Then you polish it up?
25:03Polish it up, yeah. Very durable, so once these are done, they'll be done forever.
25:08There's obviously a lot more stuff though, there's the steering wheel and other equipment,
25:12gear knob and... Yeah, so that's right, so traditionally it's the steering wheels,
25:15but obviously the add-on is there's the rails, the extensions, we have done dash panels.
25:20But yeah, so what room is this? We call this our spray room since we do the clear coating and whatnot as well.
25:25We're going to build another room over the other side, which we'll get into later,
25:28which is going to be for our resin room, working with resins.
25:31I've got cold in my ear here, this is Paddy's pie, so once we've finished lunch,
25:36lunch will be on. Hopefully lunch is ready and we'll have a good feed here. What do you reckon, Pat?
25:41Definitely. All right, mate. Good chance.
25:50Jock, we're getting into polishing these up. You'll get into polishing these up today.
25:53Beautiful. Get them ready for Alex and they'll sparkle. They will.
25:57Great product. Anyone who needs anything done, steering wheels, grab handles, extensions,
26:02extensions, whatever, Eatons. These are the people come and see down at Pakenham, Pearlcraft,
26:07see Pat or his lovely wife, Sammy. She's probably the better half of the relationship I gather and
26:12go from there, eh? Yep, for sure. Beautiful.
26:24At Pearlcraft, we're specialising customising car and truck steering wheels, rails, grab rails for trucks.
26:29We do extensions for cars. We do the dash knobs, window winder knobs, things like that.
26:33So the wheels are the main piece and then we branch out into sort of your accessories as well.
26:37So Pearlcraft actually began back in the 40s by a gentleman named Bill Clark. Used to be called
26:42Clark's Plastics back then. He had a shop down in Mount Alexandra Road in Flemington. He ran that up until
26:48in the mid-70s where another gentleman called Wayne Buszynski bought that off him and then Wayne took
26:54that over and kept running that for a while. We ended up buying that off him about 10 years ago.
26:59So when we first started 10 years ago we purchased the business. Myself and my wife Samantha both had
27:03day jobs so we did this as kind of a side hustle. We did that for about two years, working two jobs
27:08and then she went out and did this full-time on our own. So she carried the workload for about three
27:12years after that and then we just got too busy and I stepped out of my day job to take over full-time as
27:17well. So I started off in a residential workshop and then on to bigger and better things, moved into a
27:21factory down here. So we're located out in Pakenham which is a really good area for industrial areas, yeah.
27:25The business is sort of split into two halves. So you've got your classic custom cars so anything
27:29from your 20s up into the 60s. So we will take off that particular style of wheel. We would take
27:35the customer's wheel, we will restore that wheel, fix up any cracks, rebuild what we need to rebuild
27:39and fix and then apply our plasticised resin over the top. So it's coating that encapsulates the wheel.
27:44We started doing work for Don many, many years ago when I was working my daytime job as well. So we've been,
27:49we've had a long-term relationship with Don and over the years we've grown that relationship into what it is
27:54today and become mates. Keeps me busy that's for sure.
28:00It's a hand applied resin and the process itself, the bones of the process hasn't really changed over
28:07the 80 years. It's become more show quality, so more clear coats, more presentable. Back in the day
28:14when Barkey was first doing wheels it was more of a hygiene thing. So the old Bakelite truck drivers would
28:19get black hands from the Bakelite, so the pearl coat or the pearl resin would stop that from happening.
28:29We like to evolve the business and continue to grow and try new things. So we're actually now
28:33making our own truck steering wheel, so your classic four-spoke wheel. So we have the frames made here
28:38in Australia. They either go off to get chrome or gold plated, come back to us and then we resin on a
28:43solid resin rim onto that frame and then there's a lot of work polishing, bringing that up to a completed finish.
28:49So the benefits for that is it doesn't have to be a pearl steering wheel, but the big benefit
28:53is it's a solid resin so that wheel won't wear off and solid resin all the way down to the core.
28:58So that way we can do translucent colors, blues, reds, whatever you want to sort of go in that range
29:03of colors or we can do solid colors. We're going to work on a wood grain finish, so a resin wood grain,
29:08so give it that wood grain look to blend into the dash panels and whatever else.
29:20Next, young Daniel Princey is cutting and baling hay in Gembrook.
29:34So today we've come down to Gembrook and we're mowing, raking and baling 50-odd acres. I did all the
29:46mowing by myself. It drove on a John Deere 8 320 with a set of class triples. Where the farm we're at
29:54today, it's not very flat ground. It's on a fair bit of a hill. You've just got to be careful when you're
29:58mowing and baling it. We've got two sets of triples and two big square balers and I've been driving
30:04the big square since I was about seven years old, always growing up around it. Yeah, not many people
30:09can do it and it does take a special skill. Yeah, so the farm's like on a hill and then it's got like
30:16a second hill. There's a fair few different angles, so we're like an angle, angle and when you're mowing it,
30:22sometimes the mowers like drag you to the side so you can miss like little hairs or when you're
30:28baling it you just got to be careful so you don't roll the baler or snow balers go for a wander into
30:34the creek. A set of triple mowers there nine metres wide so you can cut a fair bit of ground with that
30:40and then our rake is another nine metres and puts it into a wind rake and then our baler comes in and
30:47bales it up and leaves it in rounds or we've also got we've got two round balers, two big square balers
30:54so that leaves them in big squares and we've got a little small square bale.
31:00Look it's a bit steep, nothing to really stress about but there's a bit of steepness to it. It's a
31:04bit bumpy, they used to grow spuds here years ago so it's still got a bit of rucks in it so yeah just
31:11when you're baling it you've just got to be on your on your game so you don't lose bales down the
31:15down the hill in the creek. I mean today's all right but sometimes they'll run away jump fences.
31:28Yeah so Daniel came by himself he mowed it like he knows what to do he's done it for a long time.
31:32I know he's done little but he's been doing it for quite a while and so Daniel come up and mowed it for
31:38us with the John Deere and the triples so they're conditioned so we cut and we condition the grass.
31:44This has mergers so we can we could actually merge merge the grass into a windrow or we'll just cut
31:49and drop which which Daniel did and we came with the rake and raked it up. Like any farm kid boy or
31:55girl they're pretty capable you know you know either the cropping or the hay production or the dairy farm
32:02or whatever like they're they're pretty on it you know and and and safety they're on to the safety side
32:09of it you know like like I'm sure their parents you know and same as myself we really push the safety
32:13side because it's dangerous so yeah so lucky is good but like I said there's I think any agriculture
32:22anyone in ag that's growers you know from livestock to to cropping I think I think their sons and daughters
32:30would do what Daniel does. You can't bale hay with lots and like a heap of moisture because it'll go
32:38moldy and the bales will catch on fire because they'll combust and they'll they will catch on fire
32:43so you've got to be in that 12 to 15 percent moisture mark which which it was it was on that sort of 12
32:49yeah you just got to cut it sometimes it takes three four days sometimes takes a week to dry out
32:54this one took you know that day or two and then yeah rake it and bale it in straight away yeah just
32:59trying to get in and get out quick you know otherwise two bales is better than one you know
33:03what I mean so you sort of get to the next job or go home you know because it gets too hot you can't
33:07bale either they can catch on fire so yeah so just you know teamwork I suppose so we do a lot of our own
33:15crops and then we also contract out we do a lot sort of through the rim and the mallee so we've got two
33:23crone high density balers six stringers so we do a lot a lot of large squares vetch cereal hay and
33:29whatnot we run two sets of triples so when we're cutting cutting crops down you sort of got a small
33:35window to cut it's only a real small window to to do it so if we if we're doing vetch as soon as it's
33:41sort of pods starts seeding where you've got to cut you've got to cut otherwise a vetch is vetch is
33:46grown for nitrogen in the soil so it puts nitrogen in the soil so if it if it pods and grows seed
33:53it pulls all the nitrogen back out of the soil so it defeats the purpose so you've got to go in and
33:58cut but everyone plants at the same time so if you've got say three or four customers and they
34:03want you know three four thousand acres done well it's only a real small window so we run two triples
34:09we can get in and get out real quick and with the balers once it's ready to go the the crops ready to go
34:14you we're just trying to try and bow what we can because it has to be 15 percent moisture you know
34:21there's not much variation big squeeze because they will catch on fire so sometimes we might only have
34:26a two two hour window all day to bale so you know we've got two balers and we can do a fair bit with
34:33them you know and and the rounds look the rounds are pretty forgiven you know you can you can go
34:38probably 18 percent moisture like no no like no issue but yeah we do a bit of cereal hay with them
34:43but or vetch but mainly just pasture grass you know so we've got quite a few customers and just happy
34:49happy to take it for their horses and a few cattle and whatnot so yeah the day drags out you know what
34:54i mean so you know the air-conditioned cabs and it's all good you know it's pretty comfy but end of
35:01the day i mean you know you don't want to sit in them all day nor night either you know if you have to
35:05your wheel there's no issue but in the same token you know we can do something else after this you
35:10know no no really good i'm happy with the hay like you know it's not it's not too bad a little bit light
35:16on i thought it would have been a bit more but but that's okay we can't get any trucks in here like
35:20it's the driveway's too it's too narrow it's a bit of a goat track so we're going to have to take them
35:26out to the top of the top of the hill where the road is and just load them off the road so it's going
35:32to be a little bit of a process too good process for daniel all right gee i think we've got 64
35:39nah 74 i think it was and i think the other one was about 70 75 150 bales that's not too bad it's
35:47not too bad where's good rainfall like like here we should get eight to ten bales an acre you know
35:54and you should get eight bales an acre
35:56so the battles we got out today there are they can do multiple size bales but today we're baling
36:05five foot bales with approximately 350 kilos each bale it's a fair bit of a drop so you just need to
36:12be careful because yeah if a bale starts rolling there's no stopping that the track to get into the
36:18paddock was pretty narrow a couple sharp bends and just fit the bales and mowers and rake down there
36:24the millimetres to spare it's 38 degrees today and just got to be careful make sure the grills and
36:30radiators are clean on the tractors so they don't overheat so you have obviously have air con
36:35coming up head mechanic jesse from diesel doctor has his hands full of blown engines from the tcb fleet of 65 trucks
37:05we have the engine that blown this year and unfortunately this is not not repairable because
37:17as you notice it we got the two holes on both sides of the engine block
37:22in the last couple of months we've been servicing the trucks and uh we've had a bit of our luck a few
37:26engines have come in that shouldn't sound how they should so we just pull them apart give them a fresh
37:31rebuild and put them back on the road but it's not one or two it's a few so just get them done
37:38that's what keeps the boys busy they get them in and out rebuild them and get them back on the road
37:43in this industry what we're in it's just the way it is like the boys do big kilometers they work hard
37:49and they just it just happens what do you do like it's just part of the game it's not nice but it is
37:54what it is and everyone's in the same boat they do what all you do transport so when the kilometers come up
38:00that's what happens things happen they break down they just turn to really there's all sorts of
38:07reasons why these things go could be kilometers they're doing so many kilometers or just pure bad
38:12luck we've got one just sitting beside me here piston went straight through the block it's got a
38:16hole that that big and that's probably the third one that's happened what we maintain them we service them
38:20we tune them we try to do all the right things but unfortunately they break down so that's the way it is
38:33so i've got a 108 i'm doing up as well it's been sitting there so i decided to jump back on that and
38:38dress it up how we want put it on the road that way it makes operations job a little bit easier more
38:43trucks on the road more freight we cart and that's the name of the game this truck here we're not going
38:47overboard which it is a work truck and it will work up north as well so we just want to dress it up
38:53make it look pretty but put on the road and get it happening we still got to make a tcb truck don't
38:58we so it's going to have lights on it and uh this particular truck i decided to go a little bit excited
39:02over the exhaust so put nice 10 inch fat pipes on it and black as well so that'll make it stand out
39:09its own personality and that's what we want we want every truck we do have its own personality even
39:14though it's got a tcb brand on it but it's have its own character so nicole will be busy working
39:18on that one and every other truck here i suppose with the mechanics so and the good thing is they
39:22all work together they all communicate so one thing leads to another and they all put in get the truck on
39:32this is the campy pistol grip i don't really think it's something that i will use but i like the fact
39:38that i have the option i'm pretty sure it just glides in here somewhere so they're just um your hook's on
39:47underneath it through there just click straight on you've got all that weight that you would have
39:52typically on your wrist here all much more ergonomic through your arm and of course you've got the neck
39:58you can rotate to to whatever position you would like um i've got a toolbox here i've just got to
40:03finish welding it up it's going to get put on the side of a truck um we're always needing toolboxes
40:08i'm just ready to weld the top end on and then we're going to put the front the front angles
40:13on as well so i can then put a roof on it i want to make it together because so far i've been using
40:20the tig and it's a very slow process i feel like i'm going to get so many more toolboxes done now i've
40:26got this new galley ready to go so we're going to weld up this toolbox but i think before we do it
40:31i'd like to do a few dry runs i always like to do dry runs because uh the metal is always different
40:37the temperature is always different there's always so i just like to make sure i know what my run's
40:42going to look like so i always like to do a dry run before i actually start on my actual piece
40:48especially for something like a toolbox where it's going to be visible for everyone to see every day
40:52when it's out on the truck so always best to set the machine up first yeah no pressure
