Central Asia and Japan discuss new cooperation formats at inaugural Tokyo summit

Meeting in Tokyo for the first time at leaders’ level, Central Asian states and Japan set out a framework for deeper political, economic and sectoral cooperation amid growing regional and global challenges.

00:00The first-hour Central Asia-Japan summit brought together the leaders of all five Central Asian states and Japan in Tokyo.
00:07All sides identified transport infrastructure, decarbonization and people-to-people exchanges as key priorities for future cooperation.
00:16Japanese Prime Minister Sanaya Takechi announced, among others, the launch of the Central Asia plus Japan Dialogue Tokyo initiative,
00:24targeting around 18 billion euros in business projects over the next five years.
00:28President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed concrete initiatives, including a Central Asia-Japan digital hub,
00:36an infrastructure investment fund and closer cooperation on green energy, transport and seismic safety.
00:42President of Kazakhstan Kasım Ramartakayev focused on transit and energy cooperation,
00:47stressing the importance of the Trans-Caspian Route and Japan's role in critical minerals, nuclear energy and water security.
00:54The summit was followed by a business forum where more than 150 agreements were presented.
01:00Leaders also agreed that the next Central Asia-Japan summit will be held in Kazakhstan.
