00:00We have the district coming out is singer Harkin Jackson down the deck where he
00:11will stand with Democrats united.
00:14This is Congresswoman Joyce Baker.
00:30Yeah, yeah.
00:46Yeah.
00:49Okay.
00:53Yeah.
00:55Good morning, everyone.
01:22All year, Democrats have been united in sounding the alarm on the health care crisis that Republicans are creating in this country.
01:32It started with Republicans' budget and their big, ugly bill, the largest cut in health care in U.S. history.
01:41And now, Speaker Johnson's refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits.
01:47Of course, we know that this is nothing new for Republicans.
01:53For more than a decade, they have been hell-bent on repealing the Affordable Care Act without putting forward an alternative in its place.
02:01And as we saw this week, nothing has changed with House Republican leadership, but something has changed within their own ranks.
02:09Yesterday, four House Republicans finally joined with Democrats on our discharge petition to force a vote on a clean three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits.
02:21House Democrats know that Americans cannot afford to pay an extra $1,000 every year for their health care, especially in this economy.
02:38And when people don't have health insurance, they don't stop getting sick, they don't stop needing medication, they don't stop needing care for them and their kids.
02:48And as Leader Jeffries has said all along, this is the only real plan on the table to ensure that Americans' premiums don't skyrocket by the end of the year.
02:59We have the votes, we have the votes, we have the momentum, we have the American people on our side.
03:06Let's not waste another second.
03:09Speaker Johnson, bring this bill to the floor right now.
03:13Next, our amazing whip, Catherine Clark.
03:24Thank you so much, Chairman Aguilar, and good morning, everyone.
03:31A reporter asked Speaker Johnson yesterday if he's lost control of the House
03:37because four Republicans joined 214 Democrats to force a vote on health care.
03:47But here's the truth.
03:49It's not about Speaker Johnston.
03:52Yesterday was the American people reclaiming the people's house
03:58and proclaiming that health care is a right and not a privilege for the wealthy.
04:06Dr. King told us, of all forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhuman.
04:18And the first year of this administration has certainly been shocking and inhuman.
04:25At every turn, Trump and his loyalists in the House have chosen injustice.
04:31They have made the morally corrupt choice to take health care away from people who work hard for a living
04:39to fund tax cuts for the very wealthiest.
04:43They were so eager to pass these permanent tax cuts for the billionaire class,
04:50they called us back from recess in July,
04:54all at the expense of the health and financial security of working families.
04:59That is how they have chosen to lead.
05:04The Republicans chose to shut down government.
05:08They chose to leave town rather than negotiate with us on a solution.
05:14They chose to ignore skyrocketing premiums.
05:18They chose to build a ballroom for their cronies rather than build a strong middle class.
05:25But thanks to the unity of this caucus, the leadership of Hakeem Jeffries
05:34and the resolve of the American people, Democrats have secured a vote on extending the ACA tax credits.
05:45The only question that remains is when.
05:51And I humbly suggest it should be today.
05:58So Speaker Johnson, don't send us home without a vote.
06:04Put this bill on the floor.
06:07The American people are watching and they deserve a vote.
06:14And now it is my great pleasure to introduce our leader, Hakeem Jeffries.
06:25Good morning.
06:27Thank you, Catherine.
06:29Thank you, Pete.
06:30Thank you, House Democrats, for always showing up, standing up, and speaking up for the American people.
06:41And because of the leadership of House Democrats, of this House Democratic caucus,
06:48we've successfully secured a vote with a successful discharge petition
06:53to protect the health care of the American people and extend the Affordable Care Act tax credit.
06:59We want to make clear to Mike Johnson that the American people deserve a vote on the Affordable Care Act tax credit legislation
07:24and deserve that vote today.
07:26No more excuses, no more delay, no more burying your head in the sand.
07:37Under no circumstances should the House of Representatives adjourn
07:42until we successfully extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits for tens of millions of Americans.
07:48American people deserve a vote today, not tomorrow, not next week, not next year, today.
08:03Republicans have had all year to address this health care situation.
08:10Republicans have been too busy, but they've been too busy trying to jam their extreme agenda down the throats of the American people.
08:20Republicans have been too busy enacting reckless tariffs that increase costs on everyday Americans by thousands of dollars per year.
08:30Republicans have been too busy gutting the health care of the American people.
08:34Republicans have been too busy ripping food from the mouths of hungry children, seniors, and veterans.
08:42Republicans have been too busy enacting massive tax breaks for their billionaire donors.
08:48And Republicans have been too busy treating the Congress like it's a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trump cartel.
08:56Let me be clear about something, we ain't down with any of that.
09:04House Democrats aren't here to bend the knee to Donald Trump.
09:09We're here to bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice.
09:16We believe as House Democrats that the cost of living in this great country is far too high.
09:26We believe that America is too expensive, that far too many people, working class folks, are struggling to live paycheck to paycheck, can't thrive, can barely survive.
09:38That the most important thing that the Congress should be doing is driving down the high cost of living to make life more affordable for everyday Americans.
09:46We believe that in this great country, that when you work hard and play by the rules, you should be able to live an affordable life, a comfortable life, to live the good life.
10:00Not too complicated in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, we believe that when you work hard and play by the rules, you should be able to live the good life.
10:11Good paying job, good housing, good health care, good education for your children, and a good retirement, which means keep your hands off our Social Security and our Medicare at all times.
10:22And Democrats believe in this great country, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, that access to high quality health care can't simply be a privilege.
10:37That's only available to the wealthy, the wealthiest country, that's only available to the wealthy, the well-off, and the well-connected.
10:43We believe as Democrats that in this great country, health care that's affordable and accessible is a right that should be available to every single American.
10:53That's what we believe, and that's what we're fighting hard to achieve.
10:59Now, unfortunately, all year, the American people have been dealing with this Republican health care crisis.
11:07That is devastating everyday Americans, and we're here to call it out.
11:14We're here to provide a moment of clarity.
11:19Republicans have enacted the largest cut to Medicaid in American history.
11:26Hospitals, nursing homes, and community-based health centers are closing all across the country, including in rural America,
11:33because of toxic Republican policies and their one big, ugly bill.
11:38Republicans have launched an all-out assault on the Centers for Disease Control, the National Institute of Health,
11:48the Food and Drug Administration, on vaccine availability for children, and on public health.
11:53And because of the Republican refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits,
12:00tens of millions of Americans are at risk of being unable to go see a doctor when they need one.
12:11The Republican health care crisis is unacceptable, unconscionable, and un-American.
12:17And our message to Mike Johnson is clear.
12:21You can run, but you cannot hide.
12:28The American people are horrified.
12:30Republican leaders are petrified.
12:33But House Democrats are unified, standing up on behalf of the American people to protect their health care.
12:39And so we're demanding a vote today on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits.
12:48Today, not tomorrow.
12:51Not next week.
12:52Not next month.
12:53Today.
12:54And our promise to the American people is that we will continue to fight to drive down the high cost of living,
13:01continue to fight to fix our broken health care system,
13:04and we will continue to stand up for Medicaid, for Medicare, for the Affordable Care Act,
13:13for our hospitals, for our nursing homes, for our community-based health clinics,
13:18for the health care of every single American.
13:22House Democrats are in this fight until we win this fight.
13:27Cancel the cuts, lower the costs, save health care,
13:30and extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits now.
13:34God bless you, and God bless the American people.
14:00God bless you, and God bless you, and God bless you.
