00:00Well, good afternoon, everyone. It's an honor and a privilege to be here with Marnie.
00:03So thankful for her strength and her resilience, her commitment to making life better for
00:10the people that she will be representing shortly in the United States Congress.
00:16As Marnie has indicated, life is way too expensive here in the United States of America.
00:24Costs haven't gone down despite all of the promises that Donald Trump and Republicans have made, but costs have gone
00:31up.
00:32And access to health care has been ripped away from hundreds of thousands of people here in San Diego County
00:40and millions of people all across America.
00:44The Republican won big, ugly bill, enacted the largest cut to Medicaid in American history.
00:53And that was done in order to provide their billionaire donors with massive tax breaks.
01:02House Democrats are committed to fighting to make health care affordable for every single American.
01:11And we're committed to reversing the Medicaid cuts that will devastate the people of San Diego County of California
01:21and in states all across this country.
01:26On Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it's a particular honor and privilege to stand with Marnie.
01:34So appreciative of her courage, her resilience, and her commitment to making sure that the people of San Diego County
01:45and beyond are going to be able to get the access to the health care that they need,
01:53not simply to survive, but to thrive.
02:00Thank you again for being here today.
02:03You know, the stakes of this election could not be more serious.
02:07In order to flip the U.S. House of Representatives Democratic,
02:10we must win California's 48th congressional district.
02:14And that is why we have national leaders such as Hakeem Jeffries coming down
02:18to make sure that we get across this finish line.
02:20Because the person who wins this election will have the power to vote to decide in this nation
02:25who has access to health care and who does not.
02:28My Republican opponent has already declared that he would support renewing the big, ugly bill,
02:35continuing to cut health care from hundreds of thousands of very people he would proclaim to represent.
02:41Whereas I am proclaiming that I will fight back and stand up and never, ever sit down one day
02:47if I can work hard to make sure that we have health care for every single person in this nation.
02:52So thank you for being here.
02:53And I also want to thank all the nurses and the doctors
02:56and all the hospital administration support staff who make this hospital run.
03:00We just saw the most incredible tour, including a soon-to-be labor and delivery unit
03:05that is desperately needed up here in North County.
03:07So thank you for being here today, and we're happy to take a few questions.
03:16Thanks.
03:17Nice to meet you, guys.
03:18Nice to meet you, too.
03:19Peter Jeffries and the governor were instrumental in helping to redraw the district lines here in California,
03:26including in this district.
03:27How important was that for this race and also for Democrats nationally to retake the house?
03:32Yes.
03:34I am running in a newly redrawn district, but it is still a close race.
03:38I am not taking any single vote for granted.
03:40I'm polling slightly ahead, but the only polls I trust are on Election Day.
03:44So you better believe I have been to every corner of this district.
03:47We've knocked over 35,000 doors.
03:49We have called hundreds of thousands of voters through our phone banks
03:52because the way I believe we're going to win this is by talking to voters
03:55and asking them what they need from their government.
03:58And what I've heard, the number one thing is to stop the chaos and corruption
04:02of the Donald Trump administration.
04:04Whether it is increasing their health care costs
04:06and cutting off their ability to see a doctor,
04:08whether it is stopping what ICE is doing, ripping our communities apart,
04:11whether it's ending this war in Iran that's spending $38 billion of taxpayer money abroad
04:16when we could be spending it here on Social Security and Medicare
04:20and the things that our seniors have spent their lifetimes earning.
04:25So I'm going to talk to every voter I can,
04:28and we're going to cross the finish line strong in 12 days.
04:31Let me just add, Marnie is an extraordinary candidate.
04:36An extraordinary public servant and an extraordinary civic leader.
04:41She's lived a life of service, and we're thankful that she made the decision
04:46to enter into the arena, to put herself forward as a candidate,
04:53to make clear that she's going to fight to lower the high cost of living
04:58in this great country, and certainly to fight to make sure that everyone in this community
05:05can afford to go see a doctor when they need one.
05:10The stakes of this election and this race couldn't be any clearer.
05:16However, we're either going to continue more of the same with failed policies
05:22that have ripped health care away from the American people,
05:26the Trump tariffs that have increased costs on everyday Americans
05:29by thousands of dollars per year,
05:33and the war of choice in Iran that has skyrocketed gas prices
05:38on the people of California and people all across America.
05:42That's the status quo.
05:45Marnie's campaign represents a dramatic change in direction
05:51to actually deliver a Congress committed to making life more affordable
05:59for the American people and to ensure that people are able to work hard,
06:04play by the rules and thrive, as opposed to barely being able to survive.
06:12Congress, when we prove this around, obviously this will be a top priority.
06:16Do you see a light in the tunnel and finally getting a comprehensive health care bill?
06:24We've made clear to the American people that fixing our broken health care system
06:28will be a top priority for House Democrats.
06:31There's a lot of damage that's been done.
06:34It's going to require House Democrats to fight hard
06:38to both reverse the Medicaid cuts
06:40that have ripped health insurance away already
06:43from hundreds of thousands of people here in San Diego County,
06:48and House Democrats are committed
06:50to extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits
06:54so that we can restore affordable health care
06:59for millions of people, including many here in California,
07:04who've lost it
07:05because of skyrocketing premiums, co-pays, and deductibles.
07:11We are also committed, as House Democrats,
07:15to the principle that in this great country of ours,
07:19the wealthiest country in the history of the world,
07:21access to high-quality, affordable health care
07:24can't simply be a privilege available only to the wealthy,
07:28the well-off, and the well-connected.
07:29We're committed to making sure that we can bring it to life
07:32as a right for every single American.
07:58We're going to run through the finish line
07:59and do everything possible to take back control
08:03of the House of Representatives
08:04to get to the 218 number that is needed for a majority
08:09and then win as many seats on top of that as possible.
08:13We have extraordinary candidates like Marnie.
08:16That makes us confident that we have a clear path
08:21toward taking back control of the House,
08:24but we take nothing for granted.
08:26At the end of the day, as Marnie has repeatedly indicated,
08:31the only poll that will matter
08:35will be the results on November 3rd, Election Day here in California
08:40and across the United States of America.
08:44We're working hard to convince as many people as possible,
08:48Democrats, independents, unaffiliated voters, and Republicans,
08:53that we need dramatic change in this country.
08:58We cannot afford another two years of Republican control of Congress,
09:04which has devastated the economy,
09:08raised costs,
09:09and made life far too unaffordable.
09:15Thank you, everyone.
