Transcript
00:00See how these chanas changed the color of the water once sold?
00:05This means they contained dye.
00:08So yes, eating some forms of roasted chickpeas could seriously harm your health.
00:13In Gauragpur, the food department seized 750 sacks of roasted chickpeas found to contain dangerous synthetic chemicals.
00:19Officials said the chickpeas were mixed with synthetic yellow dye,
00:23unfit for consumption and commonly used to color leather, clothes and paper.
00:27These chemicals are toxic and potentially cancer-causing.
00:30So how do you sport adulteration?
00:32If roasted chana looks unnaturally bright or glossy, leaves color on your fingers,
00:37stains water when washed and has a chemical smell, do not eat it.
00:40Health experts say such adulterated snacks can slowly damage liver and kidney
00:44and increase long-term cancer risk, especially for children and pregnant women.
00:49If you've already consumed it and experienced stomach pain, nausea, headache or weakness,
00:54seek medical advice.
00:57Stay alert, read labels carefully, avoid loose and unlabeled snacks
01:02and buy only from trusted sellers with FSSAI-approved packaging.
