00:00In the wake of Dr. Christine Blasey, Ford publicly accusing Supreme Court nominee
00:04Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a party when she was 15, and President
00:08Donald Trump subsequently casting doubt on her allegation by tweeting that if it were
00:12true, she would have spoken sooner, many high-profile victims of sexual assault have
00:16been compelled to finally share their own experiences. In an essay for Vox published
00:20on September 23rd, Alyssa Milano described the aftermath of being assaulted and
00:24explained that victims often don't come forward for fear of having blame redirected
00:28away from their attacker and onto them.
00:30Padma Lakshmi echoed that same sentiment in her essay for the New York Times, in which
00:34she opened up about the trauma she suffered after being raped by her boyfriend when she was 16.
00:39On Thursday, as Dr. Blasey Ford bravely took the stand in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee
00:44to provide testimony against Kavanaugh, Busy Phillips took to Instagram to share her story, too.
00:58The actress's memoir, This Will Only Hurdle Little, is due in stores October 16th. She added,
01:13Meanwhile, in her opening statement to the committee, Ford said,
01:16Ford alleges that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a party in 1982 when he pinned her down on a bed,
01:27tried to remove her clothes, and muffled her cries of protest with his hand.
01:31During her emotional testimony, Dr. Ford disclosed that she believed Kavanaugh was going to rape her
01:36and described how the sound of Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge's uproarious laughter
01:41is indelible in her hippocampus.
01:43Dr. Ford told the top committee Democrat, California Senator Dianne Feinstein,
01:47that she'd agonized daily over coming forward about the alleged decades-old attack
01:51and feared the personal consequences would be akin to jumping in front of a train.
01:55Since Dr. Ford went public with her allegations against Kavanaugh, two other women,
01:59Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick, have also come out to share stories of the politicians' alleged misbehavior.
02:05Kavanaugh has staunchly denied all of the allegations that have been leveled against him
02:09and will appear in front of the Judiciary Committee Thursday afternoon.
