AJR Discuss Forthcoming 'Neotheater' Album and New Tour

The brotherly trio AJR open up about their upcoming album 'Neotheater' and their North American headlining tour, kicking off this September.

00:03on a good show then you don't want to be going on Instagram you just want to be

00:06focusing and after the hour and a half you're like you wake up out of a daze

00:10you know. In just a few weeks AJR will unleash Neo Theater their second full

00:16length album and much anticipated follow-up to 2017's The Click. Just ahead

00:21of their tour announced the guys stopped by our studio here in LA to catch up.

00:24Hear the indie pop siblings speak on their scrapping mentality and why you

00:28should expect the unexpected if you're planning to catch them on this next tour.

00:32We think about a lot like a stand-up comedian at the end of every year he

00:35scraps or she scraps or they should scrap their entire you know set and start from

00:40scratch because you don't want to see a stand-up comedian twice. We want to adapt

00:43that to music as well. On stage we try to do a lot of kind of theatrical moments

00:48and weird things that people are like you have to see the show they did blank in

00:51between songs. We've built a show over the last two years that was the Click tour

00:55we decided we're scrapping all of that and we're going to do it all different

00:59and a lot bigger and better and yeah. We have a very scrapping mentality.

01:02Just get rid of everything you know. Yeah I think we like surprising people we like

01:06beating ourselves. I don't know I think we we get bored very easily and as soon as we

01:10feel like we're repeating ourselves it's like why not do something different.

01:14We also want to do a show that people have never seen in that size venue before so

01:19when you go into a venue and think oh my god that show was insane it feels like I'm at an arena show.

01:24that's the kind of feeling that we want to bring across. AJR's Neo Theatre World Tour

01:28kicks off September 20th and runs to December 14th. The Neo Theatre album drops
