00:13anything there's lots of grizzly bear diggings we'll see if we see him
00:20we have absolutely no idea what we're doing that's gonna be a recipe for disaster
00:26for us spring hunt it's a means of survival the sooner and faster we get this done
00:34the better oh my god gilbert i think we need to move on now oh thanks we're getting close to the rocks
00:56when you spend a lot of time in the bush your senses get pretty sharp
01:11you see things that someone that flies straight from the city wouldn't see
01:16you try to listen to your instinct and sometimes you don't know why but you know you shouldn't go
01:20this way you just become part of the environment when you spend a lot of time here
01:34it's still a lot of snow up there everything facing doors is still
01:39winter yeah it'd be nice to go check out closer maybe there's some rounds behind
01:45i mean they're out getting some feet on that south facing slope there
01:53we're just having a little break to have a bite and rest the horses a little bit and the last thing
02:00to see if we see any sheep or any caribou up on those mountains in the summer alex and i are hunting guides
02:09so it's uh three to four months of roaming in the mountains on horseback looking for sheep moose
02:16caribou and just we keep moving to hunt we just live on the trail and we're pretty nomadic
02:24we're gonna do a little bit of climbing today with the horses to go a little higher so it's gonna
02:29be a little more physically demanding for them we got a couple colts in our string maverick is
02:36uh completely green it's his first season going into the mountains when he crossed the river he had
02:41a needle a little accident for his first time having to deal with something like that he reacted pretty
02:50calm that's a good training for him right now to be out before the hunters come in
02:56i might be seeing some sheep up beside that collie oh yeah i see them yeah and so it's good to see
03:08something we're just on a little scouting trip turning into the mountains with our horse string
03:16we're going to be working with about 10 horses right now so there's both riding horses and uh pack horses
03:26there's lots of grizzly bear diggings all over this bank here well they dig with their claws and try to
03:54dig for the roots it's good it's good meals for them you can see they dig some big pieces with their
04:04with their paws looks pretty fresh too there's a lot of grizzly bears around here it's pretty high
04:11density there's for sure grizzly around this river trying to find some food and the horses seem to be a
04:17little nervous i don't know if they smell them or we'll see if we see him our bear could be just right
04:24here 20 feet away and you wouldn't know because the willows are so high yeah we're just ready to grab
04:30the gun if anything happen just gotta keep your eyes open and always be ready for a bear to jump in front of
04:36you come on guys
04:51kelly and i really love the idea of taking a page of the old-timers book
04:54not just living off the ocean but also living up the land it's not just about survival it's about thriving
05:10you stay right there ronnie you stay right there you watch
05:13hey girls to kick off our whole farming experience here we started off with some goats
05:21this brown one here is bucky the little white one is bobby sue those two that's maple and joe louie
05:29every morning we come up here give them a little bit of this grain it's kind of special goat grain
05:32with a bunch of vitamins and stuff keep them healthy and bobby sue here bobby sue
05:37oh the baby you are ronnie my god ronnie might look like a big old tough dog really just one big
05:46jealous puss he sees me and hear these goats he just wants to come in and play
05:55these little goats have some of the highest fat content milk it's gonna make really good milk really
06:01good cheese and once we fatten them up a bit they will make good meat too and we're not stopping with
06:06the goats eventually there'll be animals everywhere here chickens a couple pigs maybe a little
06:10newfoundland pony for kelly we'll be pretty close to self-sufficient then all right girls you're step
06:17number one how are the girls kind of doing good we need to rake that out put some fresh hay down
06:27at some point yeah hey girls they are small little things yeah they're pretty small for a meal of meat
06:33it's gonna be hard to put one of these on the table i think we're not putting them on the table
06:40well that was a plan yeah i know that was a plan but they're really tame creatures you know mm-hmm yep
06:48kelly's got a real soft heart thank god love her but she fell in love with these goats
06:55i mean i didn't expect to be so small and cute too as soon as you start putting names on
06:58and they'll be a problem these girls are dairy goats so getting them bread and getting milk out
07:06of them would be a great idea yeah i think that's the best use for them too as long as we have
07:10something out of this can't just sit here burning up resources next best thing to these guys would be
07:14sheep yeah get the wool out of it and also we get some real meat sheep there's no doubt they're meat
07:19creatures that's right no names no falling in love with them they come out here they run for the summer
07:24in the fall we're eating them you know the last few years i've been working on my homestead
07:41now i'm tired of this homestead i want to get out i want to explore i want to see the world
07:45living a life without any adventure it's not worth it it's been 10 years since this boat has been in
07:58the water i fixed it and now i'm going to try it so this is this is now this is the moment you know my
08:05goal right now is just to get on the central runs river try to find a place to camp out and to do some
08:13clam picking because this is the time of the year where there is a lot of shellfish
08:20i'm kind of worried actually because this is windy this is dangerous so i've got to trust my boat right
08:27now okay that's pretty easy go go go go go go go oh yeah yeah i got stuck there
08:39it's so soft the ground is so soft but i am so close so close to the water
08:53yeah i'm just looking for something to shim under the wheels
08:57that's that's the pre-adventure adventure but man
09:08okay let's push
09:12so heavy man
09:13go go go go go go go go go go go go
09:34man that's a lot of work
09:43All right, all right, let's get busy, back on the ship, there we go.
10:01After 10 years, here I am, again on the center of Anse River.
10:07My goal is just to get to the island where there is a lot of shellfish, but in order
10:12to do that, I've got to get across the center of Anse River for five kilometers.
10:175K, it's long, it's far away, for kind of a boat like this, there is a lot of things
10:23that can go wrong.
10:25Sink, yes.
10:26Oh, man, there is a big rock on the right, got to be very careful about that rock over
10:32there.
10:33Okay.
10:34The rocks, the rocks.
10:42We're getting close to the rocks.
10:44No, I don't want to go that way, man.
10:48Come on, come on, come on.
10:49We need to win.
10:50Here we go, buddy.
10:51Yeah, man.
10:52Woo!
10:53Woo!
10:54Oh, man, this is what I was looking for.
11:03Oh, you .
11:07Woo-hoo!
11:09You know, I love adventure because it brings back the joy of a child to flirt with the danger.
11:19You need courage.
11:20You've got to overcome your fear because you're out of your comfort zone.
11:26Oh, man, it's beautiful.
11:27Oh, man, it's beautiful.
11:28Wow.
11:29Woo-hoo!
11:32There's different times in the year that are meant to do different things.
11:49Everything we do in April and May, it's geared towards spring hunt.
11:55For us, spring hunt is hunting geese.
11:59And it's really important for our family.
12:01Food is very limited.
12:02When you're in the north, it's a means of survival.
12:11We're heading to our goose blind, the place that we go every year to go hunt geese in the
12:17spring.
12:18We're in the muskeg, which means it gets very wet.
12:21It's just a mess in the spring.
12:23So we're going to be building a platform that's going to keep us dry when we sleep.
12:27It's going to allow us to bring our kids here and we can focus on hunting from dusk
12:32till dawn.
12:33All right.
12:34The first thing we do, shovel the area.
12:37Okay.
12:38Try this one.
12:39Just living the dream.
12:49This is an extremely important project, something we're going to use a lot.
12:54We have kids that are going to start to use the rifle and start hunting with me.
13:00So the outside frame is built.
13:03Putting in the cross studs is going to be really easy and fast.
13:07Oh man.
13:08Yeah, it looks really good.
13:13Yeah.
13:14Twist a little bit.
13:15And it's flush.
13:16Yeah.
13:17We just need a little bit of shimmy so this thing goes up.
13:18We need it flat.
13:20There we go.
13:21Just a tiny shimmy.
13:22It's almost in the middle.
13:23Are you done shimmying or are we still doing this?
13:29It's just because I don't think we're going to finish this now.
13:32I think it's pretty good.
13:33Yeah.
13:34Yeah, it's good.
13:35Okay.
13:36Moving on.
13:37The whole point of living out here is to stay busy and work and that's what we want.
13:44A lot of the stuff we're doing out here isn't because we have to.
13:45A lot of it's because that's what we want.
13:46That's what we want.
13:47That's what we want.
13:48That's a lifestyle.
13:49Whew.
13:50My god, this ferrum is some work.
13:51Another thing.
13:52Okay.
13:53That's good.
13:54Moving on.
13:55The whole point of living out here is to stay busy and work and that's what we want.
14:05A lot of the stuff we're doing out here isn't because we have to.
14:08A lot of it's because that's what we want.
14:10That's a lifestyle.
14:11Whew.
14:12My god this ferrum is some work.
14:16Yeah, this is some tricky stuff.
14:19When we put this fence up originally,
14:21you put all this upside down.
14:23The holes here are smaller, and the holes in here are bigger.
14:27This is supposed to be completely reversed.
14:29We're going to double it up, put another layer over this,
14:31right side up, and then pin the bottom down.
14:35We've got little lambs on the way,
14:37and these big gaps at the bottom,
14:39that's going to be a recipe for disaster.
14:41You could lose a good animal.
14:46We're going to make mistakes, and lots of them.
14:48We have absolutely no idea what we're doing.
14:50If you knew how to do everything, what's the point?
14:53Yeah, that's the fun part, is just learning, figuring it out.
15:00Careful, let's point a bit.
15:08This will be one front post.
15:16Something like that.
15:27This is why you always keep your slabs.
15:34Going forward from this point,
15:35it's going to be a whole lot more self-reliance.
15:37Fishing in the summers, raising animals the rest of the year.
15:41Come fall, you've got meat in the freezer,
15:45vegetables in the root cellar.
15:48The more we can do it here for ourselves,
15:50the less we need to go to town for anything.
15:53That's a dream.
15:58Damn, that's looking good.
16:03These sheep are going to live in a stone's throw
16:06in the North Atlantic Ocean.
16:07When the winter storms come ripping through here,
16:09they're going to need somewhere safe, weather tight, wind tight.
16:13These creatures are relying on us to keep them safe.
16:15If they don't have a nice, weather tight structure,
16:17they won't survive.
16:19Something like that.
16:25That's it for the sheep house.
16:26It's dry, it's air tight.
16:29I think they'll be happy.
16:39This is endless wilderness, so you can go anywhere.
16:47You just pick your route and make your way in.
16:50We can get places with horses that I know nobody else
16:54has been able to reach.
16:58It's very exciting to see a new country.
17:00It should be good traveling along the streets here.
17:11I think we're just going to find a way to get down.
17:13Pretty steep bank.
17:16It's nice to see a new valley.
17:18We're pretty excited to go check out what's behind these mountains,
17:22and we can find a nice camping spot for tonight.
17:27OK, let's try it out.
17:31Come on, boys.
17:33Up, let's go.
17:35Roaming the mountains can be dangerous pretty quick
17:37if you're not prepared for it.
17:40Roky slopes, they can be slippery when it's a little wet.
17:45If it's very steep, saddles can slide,
17:47and horses can get stuck, or people can get crashed.
17:52OK, boys.
17:55They're big animals, so they can be dangerous.
17:57Oh, it definitely is a f***ing show most of the time.
18:03No, no, no, no!
18:14Just hold that horse!
18:15F***ing!
18:19OK!
18:20I might have to just f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing f***e.
18:24What are you guys doing?
18:25You guys haven't been in trees for a while.
18:32Maverick got stuck behind a couple trees
18:33and didn't understand how to go around
18:34to fall the horse in front of them.
18:36I know Maverick likes the stuff
18:37for little colts like you.
18:39It's a lot of work just to get settled again
18:42and get the string lined up again,
18:44and you have to re-tie horses all the time.
18:46There's different ways to tie a pack horses together.
18:50This is called a breakaway,
18:51so we're gonna tie the next horse to that twine.
18:55In a terrain like this, where they get tangled
18:57in the trees and stuff, you want something
18:59that is gonna break easy, so they can get loose,
19:03get free if something happens.
19:05It pulled the whole pack, and it's all the way down.
19:10That's painful for her.
19:13Coming over?
19:15Yep.
19:16We feel very responsible for the horses.
19:18I mean, it's like our family at the end.
19:21We spend a lot of time on the trail together.
19:24Your loop is too long. Start over.
19:26Sorry.
19:27It doesn't matter how frustrated you are
19:30or how tired or cold you are.
19:32You have to do it right to make sure you get there
19:37with safe horses and safe people,
19:39so you just gotta suck it up
19:41and spend the time to do it right.
19:45Okay, boys.
19:49Okay.
19:50Hey, show us the way.
19:51Living an adventure makes me alive.
20:03I'm more immersed in the present tense.
20:07This is a great way to feel something stronger than you.
20:12It's so good to be alive.
20:17Woo!
20:18I wanna go straight.
20:23The wind is just so strong.
20:27The sail, man, it's about 20 pounds at least, you know,
20:30that I have to hold with ropes on one end.
20:33And on the other end is the big, huge, 18 feet long oar
20:39that I have to steer the boat.
20:41It's a lot of work.
20:43Oh, man.
20:44It's hardcore.
20:46Holy smoke.
20:48The sail.
20:50The sail came out and it's all twisted everywhere.
20:54You know, there is so many danger to be on this water
20:58with this kind of boat.
21:01No!
21:02Oh!
21:03The mast can just fall over me.
21:06They can just be stuck in the middle of the Centrons River.
21:10The wind is just...
21:13gets everything.
21:15There we go.
21:20Now I'm good.
21:22Perfect.
21:23Oh, man.
21:27All right.
21:30That was a crazy fight.
21:32Woo-hoo-hoo!
21:36There is a leak here.
21:41The water is just pouring in.
21:44So much water in the boat.
21:47I will need to fix it.
21:49So I need to find a place pretty fast now.
21:52Every leak on a boat needs to be fixed.
21:56As soon as possible.
21:57So there is a leak here.
22:11You see the outcome should be all the way here.
22:14So this is my issue.
22:16Oh, man.
22:17So much water.
22:18The sun is gone.
22:19It started to rain now.
22:20And it's getting colder and colder.
22:21I need a shelter from the rain.
22:22This is bare land.
22:23There is no trees.
22:24So I'm just going to use the sail as a shelter.
22:25It is almost like a tent.
22:26Now I have a shelter here.
22:32Okay.
22:33Okay.
22:34Okay.
22:35So I need some heat tonight.
22:39So this is a fireplace.
22:40I built myself.
22:41Okay.
22:42Okay.
22:43You know, I just need a few inches of water.
22:44Okay.
22:45You know, I just need a few inches of water.
22:46Okay.
22:47to make sure the fire won't burn my boat.
22:51I don't know.
22:52It's almost like a tent.
22:53Now I have a shelter here.
22:54Okay.
22:55So I need some heat tonight.
23:00So this is a fireplace.
23:02I built myself.
23:04Okay.
23:07You know, I just need a few inches of dirt to make sure the fire won't burn my boat.
23:16Okay.
23:17Oh man, after all day soaking wet, it feels good to feel the heat.
23:33I'll be able to have a good rest here with my sleeping bag underneath the tarp.
23:39And tomorrow, I'll be fishing.
23:42It's an adventure.
23:43We include our kids in a lot of traditional activities.
23:58I want you to come look for some spruce sap.
24:01I think it's really important to teach them skills.
24:03If they can live here and survive here, then they can live anywhere.
24:11Alright.
24:12Now, the boards.
24:13Who's hunting is right around the corner.
24:24So this is the time when we're preparing your camp.
24:28Springtime is very important in this community.
24:31Everyone goes hunting for geese, and the geese that we get now is going to feed us for the year.
24:40Look at the walls.
24:42Now it's going to be really nice.
24:51So the site is done. That was fast.
24:54You think we'll have this done before the end of the day?
24:56Yeah. The walls should take 30 minutes.
24:58Good?
24:59Yep.
25:02This is the back. This is the top. The tent is going to lay on here.
25:12We're almost done.
25:15This is starting to look good, but I think I'll feel better once I see the tent fitting really nicely over it.
25:21If it doesn't fit, we're screwed.
25:25Having a tent frame is going to make sure that the kids are warm and dry.
25:30Oh, yeah.
25:32Because we want to teach our kids how to go hunting, trapping, really be in tune with the land.
25:39Oh, it's the wind. It's like a sail.
25:45The wind. Oh, come on, wind.
25:49Can we pull it?
25:51Let's go down the side.
25:54There.
25:55Today felt like a really, really long day. I feel like we started from almost nothing and now we have our tent set up.
26:06Everything's pretty much done, which I'm shocked.
26:09Leveling out was the hard part. Just the hard part to anything. It's the foundation.
26:15I got so many shimmies.
26:17Yeah, I like this platform.
26:19It's going to come in handy.
26:22With the platform and everything there, we're going to be having that opportunity to be there longer and the opportunity to get more harvesting done.
26:30Having completed the tent frame today, we're that much more ready for when the geese come.
26:36Yeah, this is looking good.
26:39Yeah, awesome.
26:41All we have left to do is bring a little bit of bedding, hook up our stove, bring our kids and we can start staying out here tomorrow.
26:48Yeah, the kids are going to be so excited.
26:49Be like, oh, my God.
26:51This is definitely going to give us a much better goose hunt season.
26:54It was on this Monday morning and the day be calm and fine.
27:06But I heard a great excursion with the boys to have a time.
27:11A me, a boy, I heard me always say.
27:14I wish I'd never taken this excursion around the bank.
27:17Looking back into the past just a year, everything was so different. Everything's changed so quick.
27:26It was just me and Ronnie living up in John's pond eating squirrels beside the water like.
27:31Now I'm out here living on the ocean, got a wife, bunch of animals, a house, a couple boats.
27:37I couldn't be more thrilled with how everything is shaking out in life.
27:41It is a fine day when there's a little bit of a chop on.
27:44We'll get her splashing.
27:45Yeah.
27:46Classic Newfoundland morning.
27:47She's splashy, she's wet.
27:49And we're heading into Bain Harbor to pick up some sheep.
27:55So we got a mama and two free-week-owned little baby lambs.
27:58I don't think I've ever held a lamb in my life, let alone own one.
28:01First time for everything.
28:07It's a fine wool sheep.
28:10This sheep comes 160 pounds, plus a couple lambs in there.
28:13The big struggle is going to be just getting it onto the boat.
28:16No!
28:17No!
28:18No!
28:19No!
28:20No!
28:21No!
28:22No!
28:23No!
28:24No!
28:25No!
28:26No!
28:27No!
28:28No!
28:29No!
28:30No!
28:31No!
28:32No!
28:33No!
28:34Yes!
28:35Okay, well.
28:36That's it.
28:37That's it.
28:38Okay, this thing is huge. Wow, she is really big.
28:46Oh, the big thing now is getting these little girls home.
28:50No names. No names. For God's sake, Kelly, no names.
28:54Okay, no names. Just sheep.
28:56They're feeding. The babies are feeding.
29:00Wow. Oh, happy little tails.
29:03Ronnie's not the only one licking his lips when he looks at that big old sheep back there.
29:07At least a couple of meals out of that thing.
29:10I told Kelly, no names.
29:12Right from the start, we can't have Kelly fall in love with these sheep like she did with the goats.
29:20Oh, my God. Oh, my God, the tail swagger is so cute.
29:26I can't wait to get my hands on me.
29:28Okay.
29:34All right.
29:36There you go.
29:38Oh, my gosh.
29:39So, try and get a lamb out?
29:41Yeah.
29:49I got her.
29:50Okay.
29:51Come on.
29:56Okay, my gosh.
29:57You take mama.
29:58Okay.
29:59Come on.
30:00Hi, mom.
30:01There.
30:02There you go.
30:03Come on.
30:04Hi, mama.
30:05Hearing those lambs scream for her mom as soon as we separate them was another one of those...
30:20I got her.
30:21You know, learning moments.
30:22Kind of like a screaming baby.
30:24You just get stressed.
30:25Your blood pressure rises.
30:26I thought it would be a whole lot more relaxing than this.
30:35It's okay, mama.
30:36It's okay.
30:37It's okay.
30:38It's okay.
30:39There's no doubt living out here is a hard life.
30:41It's kind of an endless process.
30:42This is the kind of job that's never done.
30:46But the more we can do it here for ourselves, the less we need to go to town for anything.
30:51That's freedom, baby.
30:53Thank God we put Ronnie in the house.
30:57Kelly is definitely a girl that's not afraid of hard work.
31:00She loves it.
31:01She gets a lot of enjoyment like myself and just doing work and seeing results right away and being tired at the end of the day.
31:09Yoo-hoo!
31:11Not a chore for her.
31:12She has no desires to take a break like she really does feel at home here like myself.
31:17Hang on.
31:18I'll help you.
31:19All right, all right, all right, all right.
31:24Okay, girl, go.
31:25You're free.
31:26Here's your baby, mama.
31:30Oh.
31:31Here you go.
31:33Just like that.
31:36Oh, Kelly, you should have seen that they ran to their mom.
31:39Good job, my love.
31:40Holy smokes.
31:42That was really hard.
31:44God, it's stressful.
31:45I tell you after seeing them, I don't want those on my dinner plate.
31:51Not starting.
31:52I didn't hear that, Kelly.
31:54I'm serious.
31:56These ones are going on a dinner plate.
31:57I'll give a hell.
32:00It's the very first piece, and it feels good.
32:02Like one small step up a mountain, a big mountain.
32:06It was very exciting to see it start to happen.
32:11Can't wait to see what the next year brings.
32:13I wouldn't trade living out here for a million dollars.
32:18Life is good.
32:19It's starting to rain over there.
32:33There's some clouds coming in.
32:35Mother might get nasty here pretty quick.
32:37We might want to find a camp spot.
32:40Yeah, we should go down there and take a look.
32:42Come on, boys.
32:43Let's go.
32:50If we see weather is coming in and it's almost the end of the day,
32:54we stop a little earlier on the trail,
32:56and it gives us time to find a nice camp spot for the horses.
33:04Good boy.
33:05It's important for the horses to have a good night where they can eat and rest.
33:22So we're going to stop here.
33:25Come on, Jet. Come on, Jet.
33:27This spot is a good camp spot because there's lots of grass for the horses to graze.
33:31The creek is right here, so it's good we have water for the horses and for us.
33:37And there's some trees so we can build our shelter for the night.
33:42It's a pretty good spot.
33:45We're putting bells on the horses so they can just go and find the grass and drink.
33:51Even if they wander pretty far, we'll be able to hear them.
33:53And everybody get a nice pair of hobbles.
33:58They're still able to walk and run with them.
34:01It's just if they decide to go on a little adventure,
34:04they can't go as far as they would without the hobbles.
34:07Okay, girl, you're free.
34:10There you go, bud.
34:13I can start clearing out the ground a little bit.
34:16Okay.
34:17It's not that level here, but with a couple of saddle blankets,
34:20the ground should be okay to sleep on.
34:23Is that high enough?
34:24Yeah.
34:25On my hand, it looks good.
34:26Okay.
34:27That'll be good.
34:28It's a very simple life.
34:29We use whatever we brought with us and the rest we can do.
34:32It's not that level here, but with a couple of saddle blankets,
34:34the ground should be okay to sleep on.
34:36Is that high enough?
34:37Yep.
34:38On my hand it looks good.
34:39Okay.
34:40That'll be good.
34:41It's a very simple life.
34:42We use whatever we brought with us and the rest we make it happen from what we can find with the skills we have.
35:00I'm just making 10 pegs here and it's going to hold everything down nicely.
35:05It's quite windy, so I will need quite a few pegs and just to get everything nice and tight.
35:11So it should keep us dry.
35:16The freedom of roaming the mountains for months and being with your horse train and, you know,
35:22just live simply out of a tarp and bedroll, it's pretty special.
35:27The possibility of discomfort makes it actually a lot more rewarding when you are comfortable and warm.
35:38There's a lot of days you're wet and you're cold and you may regret what you're doing
35:42and might want to even be somewhere else, but it's all part of it.
35:46I love living like this, the simple old school lifestyle.
35:57Everything takes time and effort.
36:00It's hard in the moment, but we still love it because we keep doing it.
36:05Every year we come back and, yeah, it's just part of the adventure.
36:09If everything was easy, it wouldn't be as special for us.
36:16Just living with the bare minimum and back to the basics is how we need to be happy here.
36:22Pretty much all done was the work for the day.
36:34We'll just cook up some dinner and then roll up in our sleeping bags.
36:39This is pretty much life for the next three months on the trail,
36:42or it's not a bad way to spend the summer.
36:45Last year's mousse.
36:58Tomorrow we're going to start early.
37:00I'm going to go wrangle the horses and then we'll pack up camp and keep going.
37:06We're heading out deeper into those mountains.
37:10I'm not sure what lies ahead.
37:13I'm sure it's going to be a lot of bumps on the way,
37:15and there's a lot of unknown in this trip,
37:17but I'm sure it's going to be a big adventure.
37:29Having our tent structure completed, I can't wait to show the kids.
37:33I think they're going to be really excited to see what we've done.
37:36Do you like it?
37:41Look how nice it looks.
37:43Do you guys want to come check it out?
37:45You can go inside the tent.
37:46Yeah. All right. Go open it.
37:50Whoa.
37:52Whoa.
37:53Whoa.
37:54What do you guys think?
37:55Do you guys like this place?
37:56I want to sleep here tonight.
37:58Do you want to sleep here tonight?
37:59Can I sleep on the tent?
38:01Yep.
38:02Go on your back.
38:03It feels so cool.
38:06Does it feel so comfy?
38:08We built the whole tent frame.
38:10Having a tent frame is going to allow us to take our kids here
38:13for longer than a couple nights.
38:15We're going to be able to spend a couple of weeks here.
38:18You guys want to come goose hunting here this year?
38:20Yeah.
38:21I really enjoy doing this as a family because the kids love it when we're all together.
38:30And at the same time, we're teaching them a skill.
38:34Yeah.
38:35See, it's browning.
38:37It's cooking now.
38:38The good thing about banagon stick, it's quick.
38:41When you're chasing caribou, you make banagon stick.
38:44It's the quick snack.
38:46Yeah!
38:47I found it!
38:48Hold it.
38:49Hold it to cool off.
38:51When I look back at my childhood, these things you remember the most.
38:57The time you spent with your family, I think these are the most important things.
39:08Do you like it?
39:10Brooke, I need to come here right now.
39:12Mmm.
39:13You want a pitch?
39:16Mm-hmm.
39:17We come out here on the land as a family and we're creating memories for them and we're creating memories for us.
39:25I wouldn't trade this for anything.
39:30I know that they're already really excited to come sleep over and looking forward to goose hunting season,
39:35so I think it's going to be good.
39:42This was a really good project we did.
39:44Mm-hmm.
39:45I think the kids like it.
39:47Yeah?
39:48What should we build next?
39:52An outhouse.
40:04What I like about adventure is being out in the wild, in the my land, and just to explore new territories.
40:11There's another world here that I cannot find in the city or elsewhere.
40:22You know, this place here, this little cove, it's just perfect to make a camp because I'm sheltered from the wind.
40:29The sun is out.
40:30I'm getting dry now.
40:32Perfect place to do some shell fishing here.
40:35And I'm just going to wait for the tide to go down.
40:44This is the lowest tide of the day, and the shellfish are just ready to be picked up.
40:50Yeah.
40:51This little bubble here.
40:52Right now, there is some little holes here.
40:53There should be.
40:54Hmm.
40:55This one are a little bit.
40:56No, it's a rock.
40:57It's a rock.
40:58It's a rock.
40:59It's a rock.
41:00There's holes everywhere.
41:01Ha ha.
41:02There we go.
41:03So this is what I'm looking for.
41:04Tiny shellfish.
41:05Beautiful color.
41:06Kind of blue and white.
41:07Usually they're pretty small, but they're very good.
41:18This is good news.
41:20You know, this is different.
41:21There's holes everywhere.
41:23Probably.
41:24No, it's a rock.
41:25No, it's a rock.
41:27It's a rock.
41:28It's a rock.
41:29It's a rock.
41:30It's a rock.
41:31It's a rock.
41:32There's holes everywhere.
41:33You know, this shoreline has been used by generations, even the First Nation came here
41:42and did exactly what I'm doing right now.
41:45Yeah, you see?
41:47Oh man, this is a big one here.
41:50Oh yeah, woohoo!
41:53This is big.
41:55This one is big.
42:03Ho, ho, ho!
42:05Oh yeah, now I've got a bunch here.
42:10You know, I was so scared not finding one, but man, there are plenty.
42:22This is great.
42:24And you know, I'm just going to gather maybe a few more and that would be enough for a
42:27meal.
42:28And it took me 15 minutes.
42:31Man, I'm so hungry.
42:45Smell the onion, a little bit of garlic, and the white wine.
42:54Oh man.
42:55You know, sailing this boat was hard and to come all the way here.
43:06But at the end, man, there is always a reward and this little moment of happiness.
43:12You know, the boat didn't sink.
43:14So, you know what?
43:15I'm going to keep this boat and I'm going to do it again next year.
43:23This is it.
43:24Oh yeah, they just all open up.
43:28Oh man.
43:33Oh, fresh from the sea.
43:37Cannot get fresher than this.
43:39I've done so much on my land this year.
43:45And being here, looking at the horizon right now, it's just exciting to dream about the future.
43:52A new world of adventures.
43:54A new world of adventures.
43:54A new world of adventures.
