00:00I know a lot of people like to romanticize this type of life, but at the end of the day, it's a constant battle.
00:09No one's here to save you.
00:11Watch out, they're coming hot!
00:13It's either you do it or you deal with consequences.
00:16Oh!
00:17This is the ice shack.
00:20The cheapest off-grid fridge.
00:23It needs a lot of work.
00:24Oh yeah!
00:27Working in the cold is always a big challenge.
00:30Tensels don't start.
00:32Oh yeah!
00:34It can be frustrating, but just put your head down and power through it.
00:38I've never seen a winter like this before.
00:41Too much snow.
00:42Too much snow.
00:44If you don't have it and you need it, it's that make something out of nothing.
00:48You think it's wide enough to go across with a heavy pack?
00:51Oh my god.
00:53This is a feeling I wish everyone could experience.
01:00Living out here like this, firewood is everything.
01:22As soon as it gets cold, firewood is the only way to stay warm.
01:26Otherwise, it just frees to death.
01:30This is pretty much the last of my dry, cured firewood.
01:34There's nothing decent on this whole island worth cutting.
01:36Nothing's going to give any heat.
01:39It really would be great if you could just cut down any tree at all and burn it.
01:42But it's not like that.
01:45There's lots of trees around, but to find nice dry wood, it's a whole other ballgame.
01:49And right now, I'm definitely running low.
01:55Pretty much as soon as the winter set in here, I moved down to the kitchen to the main floor.
02:14Traditionally, in these old saltbox houses, this was the only room that was warm during the winter.
02:19There's no insulation in these old houses.
02:21Heat in this house is like trying to heat a lobster pot.
02:23The heat just goes right at the top.
02:26That's why there's two wood stoves here to keep it warm.
02:29That's why I got a day bed down here now.
02:31But, you know, it's not going to stay very warm much longer.
02:35It's the run of the firewood.
02:37But I do know there is some across the harbor.
02:40I've seen some dry stuff over there up on a cliff.
02:42The problem is getting to it.
02:44I don't want to bring the speedboat over there, get her up on the rocks, beat her up.
02:48My only option now is to use the old dory.
02:51Bring her over there on the cliffs and see if I can pinch a little quick load of dry wood.
02:58The dory is great for multiple reasons.
03:00I can get in some tight spots that I wouldn't be able to get with the big powerboat.
03:03But when we tried to christen her, smash that beer across her bow, she wouldn't take it.
03:10F*** that bad luck.
03:12Everyone knows if you can't christen a boat, it's got to be bad luck.
03:16I don't know if she's actually cursed or not, but I've got to get the firewood,
03:19and this dory is just the best way to do that.
03:23She's about to get her first dip.
03:26And I'm not really sure how good an idea this is.
03:28Pretty rough out there.
03:31Come on, Ryan.
03:32Up here.
03:34Oh, come on, my boy.
03:38Slippery.
03:38You stay there.
03:40Here we go, Ryan.
03:42First dip.
03:45Stay still, Ryan.
03:53She got a tip to her.
03:55She got a tip to her.
03:57Stay still, Ryan.
04:00Ronnie.
04:02Ronnie's going to tip me over.
04:06Come on.
04:07Up.
04:07Up.
04:10Oh, my God.
04:11I thought we were going to tip over there.
04:13She's so light on her own that she's basically sitting on top of the water.
04:16She's not sitting in the water.
04:18So we need to load her up some rocks as well, so pull her down.
04:21Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
04:29Sorry, my son.
04:31Too tippy with you in there.
04:33You stay here.
04:35It won't be long.
04:37You stay.
04:38Hey, let's try this again.
04:44Oh, Ryan, tell us a lot better.
04:45I never like leaving Ronnie behind.
04:48He's usually beside me everywhere I go, but it's not sensible to try and bring him in this
04:53small boat and fill it with firewood.
04:56Way better.
04:58Got a bit of ballast in her.
05:00She's sitting low.
05:01Oh, yeah.
05:03This will do.
05:04Look how fast she is.
05:07Woo!
05:09Next off firewood, baby.
05:23I know this land, and I've been here many winters, and I had never seen a winter like this before.
05:31You know, the last few years, there was about three feet of snow, but this year, man, it's
05:38been crazy.
05:39It's like four feet snow at least.
05:43It's amazing, but more work there for me.
05:53My next project will be to build a big, huge forge, you know, a big blacksmith shop.
06:01I'm looking forward, you know, to work with metal.
06:05This is a new skill that I really want to try and to pursue so I can make anything I want.
06:11So now I'm shoveling a big space here in order to build this forge, and I want it big.
06:22You know, it's always easier to build anything on spring, summer, but wintertime, you know,
06:30it's a lot of cabin.
06:30Again, I've got a lot of time, so I'm going to use this time to build my forge.
06:39It's about five feet here.
06:41You could build a home in there.
06:43It's just crazy.
06:49All right.
06:50This looks pretty good to me.
06:54Ready to build a wall now.
06:55This middle shop will open so many new possibilities for me.
07:03A whole new level of self-reliance.
07:06If I want something, I have to make it myself.
07:14Well, this is all the wood I have had on my land.
07:17I need some more boards.
07:21I've got some old logs with no bark on it, so maybe I'm going to use it.
07:31These kind of logs, you know, it's backup logs.
07:34We never know when we're going to need it, so I'm glad I have it.
07:38Okay.
07:40me?
07:41Oh, .
07:42I had a bad feeling, you know?
07:48It's a bad feeling.
07:51Close to a foot short.
07:53I just miscalculated.
07:57Disappointed.
07:58I'll see what I've got.
08:01What do I have now?
08:03This one looks good.
08:09This one better work.
08:10Okay.
08:11Okay.
08:14Fair.
08:15Yeah.
08:16It looks pretty good.
08:18Oof.
08:18That was close.
08:27That was the last one.
08:31Uh.
08:32Hmm.
08:37Whoa.
08:38It's only four walls, but it's like a puzzle, you know?
08:47This goes here.
08:50You come here.
08:56Okay.
08:58Trying to figure it out.
08:59You come here, big guy, because you have an angle for the room.
09:08Okay?
09:10All done.
09:11All done.
09:17Yeah.
09:18It's been a long day.
09:19Holly Lake is a very remote location.
09:35This is it.
09:36It's a place that means a lot to Gilbert.
09:40I grabbed the shovels.
09:42That's where his family's from.
09:44That's where he was raised.
09:46This is really home for Gilbert.
09:53Wow.
09:55He needs a lot of work.
09:57Yep.
09:58Just have to take the snow off and see what we can do.
10:02This is an ice shack.
10:04This is a true off-grid fridge.
10:08Once the whole thing is piled with ice, it lasts the whole summer.
10:12We spend our summers here, and having an ice shack is going to help us preserve our food.
10:20Preserve our fish, our caribou, so that we can keep it cold.
10:25Parky, come here.
10:27When you're somewhere remote, you've got to try to work with the elements and not rely on gas and electricity,
10:33because, you know, you don't have it available.
10:38A lot of snow.
10:41The ice shack hasn't really been used in a couple years.
10:44It's been in a pretty rough shape.
10:47It's not a stable structure at all.
10:50It's all collapsed in the center.
10:52I really want to fix this up so we can start storing some ice in here, but it's not really holding by much.
11:01The biggest challenge right now is that we don't have the supplies really to fix it.
11:05We only have what's here, and there's not much, so we'll use what we have.
11:10We do have an old cabin that's been sitting there for years.
11:18We're going to try to salvage the wood, and if it's not usable, then at least we can burn it and keep ourselves warm.
11:31There you go.
11:34Oh, yeah.
11:35Do you think the sweat is so good?
11:40Yeah.
11:43Big nails.
11:44Yeah, those are massive nails.
11:48Living off-grid forces you to be resourceful and be creative.
11:53All right, this is really heavy.
11:56If you don't have it and you need it, you just have to make something out of nothing.
12:01All right, let's go.
12:05This lifestyle is sure not for everyone.
12:18I'm doing it because I love the challenge.
12:21I like to test myself.
12:23For me, that's living life to the fullest.
12:25I'm back to the place where I started to build that bridge last year, where nothing worked out.
12:40Last spring, I had the great idea to try to build a bridge during the spring flood.
12:45It was just not possible.
12:48The water was getting so high so fast.
12:52It was a pretty big disaster.
12:54So I'm still wanting to finish that bridge project because there's some good moose country on the other side of that creek.
13:05I'm hoping I can go hunting there next fall, so if I can have a bridge, I'm able to cross back and forth.
13:15Especially if you go hunting and you have a big, heavy backpack, it can be easier to cross.
13:19That's why I want to try again, but using the winter to be able to walk on the ice, it's going to be easier to build the bridge.
13:29Alex is back.
13:33It's always nice to have another human around and have someone to talk to and more company than just the dogs.
13:40Another set of hands to help me with big projects like this one.
13:45I missed him.
13:47Good to be back out here on the trapline and to see Margot.
13:52I hope that working together, we can get this done.
13:56We just have to be a little bit careful here.
13:59Working on the ice.
14:01There's still water running underneath here.
14:03You can hear it gurgling.
14:05Getting wet out here in the winter is always a danger.
14:10You can catch hypothermia quickly.
14:15Right now, I'm checking the ice to see if the spot is safe to build the bridge.
14:23The ice looks pretty thick, so I think we're safe and we can actually start building.
14:29That's the tree where you're thinking?
14:33I think that's the best one.
14:35Let's do it.
14:35My biggest worries are that the tree is not going to be long enough or not thick enough when it falls on the other side.
14:48And also that the whole thing slides down the river and that we're not able to pull it back up.
14:53We're putting a couple logs under the tree just when we're going to cut it.
15:02We don't want it to slide down on the river.
15:05So hopefully those little logs just hold it in place here so we can have it stay on that bank.
15:12Okay.
15:12Every time we use chainsaw, you always have to think about safety, of course, but even more in the winter.
15:24Just be careful.
15:25It's going to come down quick.
15:27There is lots of snow and it's harder to move fast if the tree doesn't fall where you want it.
15:32It's going.
15:34Get out.
15:35You stay on the bank on this side.
15:44Yeah, it held on here good.
15:45I think it still reaches on the beach.
15:50It should be kind of perfect.
15:58So we're going to build a pillar, like a little tower to put the bridge on.
16:02So the bridge will be hopefully higher than the water level.
16:09These are maybe 70 to 100 pounds, the heavier ones here.
16:14They'll make salt foundation for our pillar over there.
16:17It's okay.
16:19Moving logs, it's heavy enough, but moving logs through this deep snow, it's pretty demanding.
16:27That's the biggest part, building something in the winter is dealing with that snow.
16:32Even though it's hard work, I've got something to prove.
16:37I don't want to fail again.
16:42I really want this bridge to work, but I also want to beat that damn river.
16:46Well, the frame is done.
17:03Now I'm ready for the forge itself.
17:06It's an antique forge that I got.
17:08Right now, it's pretty far from the cabin, so I've got to get it.
17:13But this thing, well, it's so heavy.
17:17It's like at least 200 pounds, something like that.
17:19And I cannot carry it by myself.
17:22Not even on my back.
17:23It's just impossible.
17:24There is so much snow.
17:25And I don't have a sleigh.
17:27So I've got to find a way to do it.
17:35Oh, yeah.
17:38That's pretty big.
17:39I just saw my canoe, and I said, yeah, let's use a canoe.
17:49Pretty sure I can just put the forge on top, pull it.
17:56We don't say that every day, putting a forge in a canoe.
18:02This part is very, very fragile.
18:04Oh, man, this is heavy.
18:16Come on, big guy.
18:19Oh, what?
18:19Oh, what?
18:20Oh, what?
18:20Oh, what?
18:20Oh, what?
18:20Oh, what?
18:20Oh, what?
18:20Oh, what?
18:21Oh, what?
18:22Oh, what?
18:22The plywood is just bending so much.
18:26I broke it.
18:28Yeah, I broke it.
18:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:32It's getting worse and worse, man.
18:37I need some straps, because right now, the canoe will just open up.
18:50Being on my land is never boring.
18:54Every day is different.
18:56There's always challenge.
18:59And I love challenge.
19:02This is part of the game, you know?
19:04It's part of the game.
19:07Okay, that's good.
19:09Let's see if it works.
19:20Yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
19:23Back, back, back.
19:25Maybe it's better if I go on the back, man.
19:29Even down there.
19:39Pull and push.
19:40Yeah.
19:41Yeah.
19:42I'm not even halfway yet.
19:45It's so heavy.
19:46It's like too much snow.
19:48Yeah, I'm not even halfway yet.
20:06It's so heavy, it's like too much snow, too much snow.
20:12So, oh, this is what I'm going to do, it's going to go faster.
20:16I'm just going to get my tools and rope.
20:22You know, there is a kind of a self-reliance that lifestyle demands.
20:29You always have to find new ideas.
20:33Okay.
20:34You have to figure it out, it's the only option.
20:40Yeah, it's working good.
20:46Oh, man, that was an adventure.
20:58It's here, and I found another use for my canoe.
21:02I feel like I'm running to something more than I'm running from something.
21:25I can see what I want out here.
21:27For me, it's all about chasing freedom.
21:34Oh, my God.
21:36This is a feeling I wish everyone could experience.
21:40Able to enjoy this whole other world.
21:47Happy boy, I'm a happy boy.
21:49I'm going to try and find some firewood.
21:55I see loads of firewood right up there, lots of good stuff.
21:59But it's not a good place for landing.
22:03Yeah, if I try and land here,
22:05you wouldn't be long getting yourself tore up in these rocks.
22:09These rocks and this ice take the bottom right of the boat.
22:11I'm going to find somewhere else.
22:15Got no choice.
22:28Well, the old roadboat might be cursed, but I tell you, boy,
22:31so far, so good.
22:32We're here.
22:35That's where all the good wood is.
22:36I can see lots of it up there.
22:38My God, this is sheer.
22:41Need to get a billy goat in here
22:42and scrub a chainsaw to him.
22:45Got to hurry up and do this
22:46because tide's on the way in.
22:48Before long, this whole beach will be underwater.
22:51Want to get the wood, I got to get it now.
22:55This cliff right here is exactly
22:57why Newfoundland is nicknamed the rock
22:59because all it is is massive rock
23:01sitting out in the Atlantic Ocean.
23:04Oh.
23:05My God.
23:06This is it.
23:08I know a lot of these trees
23:09don't look like much to the untrained eye.
23:12These little things here,
23:13these are called stunned wood around here.
23:15It's not 100% dry.
23:16Not 100% green.
23:18If you can get them burning,
23:19they burn hot.
23:20And around here,
23:21this is really the best you're going to do
23:22is this stuff.
23:23That one little tree right there,
23:26a few hours of burning just in that one.
23:28Nice part is,
23:28the dory is just right there.
23:30So I can just cut all this down
23:31and then just throw it right over the cliff,
23:34right into the dory.
23:35Well,
23:37only one thing left to do now, boy.
23:39Let the big dog eat.
23:39When you're out in the bush,
23:59you really got to think a couple steps ahead.
24:03It just makes you more prepared.
24:04It's always something that you need to keep
24:09in the back of your mind.
24:12And building an ice cabin
24:14is definitely thinking a couple steps ahead.
24:22Right now, the roof,
24:23it's looking like this in the center.
24:26So we want to try to push something underneath
24:28to bring it straight.
24:31That looks really good, Gilbert.
24:33That looks really solid.
24:38There's going to be a leverage.
24:40Okay.
24:41Yeah, yeah, that'll work really good.
24:43Yeah.
24:45Well, hopefully that will hold
24:46when we push it up.
24:48All right, you ready?
24:52One, two, three.
24:58It's moving up.
25:00Yeah, it's one up.
25:04Okay, so you want me to step on it?
25:06Yeah.
25:09All right.
25:10What do you want me to do?
25:11Just keep stepping up.
25:12I'm going to put a chamois under it.
25:14Oh, yeah.
25:26Got it?
25:27Working.
25:28Working.
25:32I'm going to put another shin in here.
25:35I think this little contraption thing
25:38that we've got going on here
25:40is working so far.
25:41We're definitely able to bring it up
25:43a little bit more every time.
25:47I think we're just going to have
25:48to keep going inch by inch.
25:51Oh, yes.
25:51It's on there.
25:52Yeah.
25:53Oh, yeah.
25:54Good.
25:54It's supporting.
25:55We got it raised maybe a foot.
25:58We're bracing it now.
26:02That should be good enough.
26:06We're going to start harvesting
26:07some ice blocks,
26:08and then we're going to start
26:09stacking up the ice shack.
26:13Last spring,
26:27I went exploring
26:28on the other side of the river,
26:29and I found really good moose country.
26:32But rivers can be dangerous,
26:37especially in the spring
26:38when the water can be pretty strong.
26:39F*** me.
26:40People can get swept away pretty easily.
26:47This bridge means a lot
26:48because I will have easy access
26:50to those hunting grounds,
26:52and hopefully it means more access to food.
26:55We want to build the pillar
27:01as high as the bank on the other side.
27:03So it's higher above the water level
27:06when the water is higher in the spring.
27:08It looks pretty sturdy.
27:18I think it's going to be strong enough
27:20to hold if there's a big flood
27:21during the spring.
27:23And now comes the biggest challenge,
27:26which is putting that tree
27:28on top of the pillar.
27:30It's a very heavy tree.
27:33It's hundreds of pounds.
27:34So we'll have to find a little system
27:37to bring it up.
27:39We want to make sure
27:40we don't pull that whole tree
27:41down the river
27:42while we're jacking it up.
27:45That thing falls into the river
27:46on the other side.
27:48It would be game over for us.
27:50So Alex is securing
27:52the other end right now
27:53to make sure it stays in place.
27:55Hopefully it works.
28:04Ready?
28:05One, two, three.
28:07Okay.
28:08One, two, three.
28:11One, two, three.
28:14Okay.
28:15One, two, three.
28:17Wait.
28:20Oh, I'll step on it.
28:22I didn't.
28:23Okay.
28:24Okay.
28:24One, two, three.
28:26A little more.
28:28One, two, three.
28:31No.
28:32Can you hold or I will?
28:36No, can you hold?
28:37Can you hold?
28:40I'm going to try
28:40wrapping this thing
28:41right around me.
28:44Okay.
28:44One, two, three.
28:47One, two, three.
28:48This is really hanging up.
28:51Should I just cut this?
28:53Yep.
29:00No, you.
29:00Just cut it flat.
29:15Okay.
29:16You got to walk.
29:19Okay.
29:19One, two, three.
29:25We're on.
29:26Okay.
29:27Okay.
29:27In place.
29:31It's in there?
29:32Yeah.
29:32That's perfect.
29:33Okay.
29:33Good job.
29:36Having the tree up there now is, the big part is done.
29:39I think it's high enough for the water in the spring.
29:45I think it's going to be safe.
29:48But it's far from being done.
29:51We milled some boards back at camp for the bridge.
29:54But it would be much easier if I can put all the planks in the sleigh pool by the dogs.
30:01What I'm most worried about will be probably that big steep hill.
30:05It's pretty vertical and it's going to be a little intense, I think.
30:09The fort is here.
30:20The anvil will be around here.
30:23So it's like I'll be working here.
30:25Make sure it's warm enough and bring it here.
30:28And talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, working on the anvil.
30:31And back.
30:32I see it now.
30:33This is the original fan from the forge.
30:44You know, that was a hand crank here.
30:46But the last owner put an electric motor to it.
30:51So now there is only one way to know if it works.
30:55To plug it in.
30:57It has to work, this guy, you know.
30:59After all that work, it needs to work.
31:03The power is coming from the solar panel system.
31:09So this is the moment of truth.
31:14Okay.
31:25It looks crooked a bit.
31:29It's not in line.
31:30The legs is crooked here.
31:36How come it's not working?
31:38Maybe.
31:39It needs to be a little bit.
31:41Okay.
31:42One.
31:46Okay.
31:47And this is two.
31:49Here we go.
31:51Okay.
31:52It's more in line.
32:02Let's do it again.
32:04Second try.
32:05Yeah.
32:06Yeah.
32:13Yeah.
32:14Yeah.
32:15That's great.
32:17Oh, man.
32:18I feel the air.
32:21That's just enough force to feed a fire to make it work.
32:26Hey, man.
32:27Now I just need to start a fire on it.
32:29This is old school.
32:39I like to bring back some tradition.
32:42And this is very old tradition here.
32:45I'm just looking for embers now.
32:48There are some coals here.
32:50Let's start the fan.
32:51Oh, man.
32:59That's working a lot.
33:00Oh, yeah.
33:04This is exactly what I want to see.
33:07The coals are so red now.
33:10That's crazy.
33:12It's working.
33:13And it's going to be very hot.
33:15I can't wait to put some metal into it.
33:19I feel great.
33:22This is just a big step for me.
33:25This is the forge I always wanted.
33:28I can work middle now.
33:30I can build anything here.
33:32A new world is opening to me.
33:33It's still nice.
33:50And I'm a little concerned.
33:52It might not be thick enough for an ice block.
33:55But hopefully it is.
33:56And we can continue harvesting ice.
33:58Where do you want it?
34:08Right here.
34:09Same here.
34:20That's a really nice piece.
34:22Yes.
34:23Yeah, this is a really good spot.
34:25Yeah, that's what we're looking for.
34:26Good.
34:28This is the first ice harvesting of the season.
34:57So it's okay if we don't get a lot of ice blocks.
35:01They're slippery.
35:02They're so slippery.
35:04But at least we're getting it started.
35:05And then throughout the season, we'll continue to add more ice to the ice cabin.
35:10Now we know where to get the ice.
35:12Okay.
35:13All right.
35:13Having an ice cabin is going to be really important for us in the summertime when we're here.
35:34That works pretty good.
35:36Because filling it up with ice is going to last all the way through probably September.
35:41Oh, my God.
35:42And then we'll be able to store some food in the summertime.
35:48That works.
35:50Stack them up really nice.
35:52That's the last one?
35:56The last one.
35:59Yeah.
36:04This will act as insulation, right?
36:06Yeah, it's insulation.
36:07Everything that we've used on this ice cabin is from repurposed material.
36:14Amazing how much we can get done with scrap and stuff we find.
36:20Good for now.
36:22Yeah, looks awesome.
36:23There you go.
36:26When we come back with more supplies and we can really fix it up, maybe eventually we could put a newer roof on.
36:33Yeah.
36:34It's not super pretty to look at, but it looks like it's going to do the job for now.
36:38We did it.
36:39All right, let's go get some coffee.
36:42Coffee time.
36:43Coffee time.
36:43Hey, come here.
36:58I'm excited to get this done.
37:01Oh, boy.
37:02Oh, you're so happy to go.
37:03We milled some boards back at camp for the bridge.
37:08But it's going to take forever if we have to walk back and forth with the planks.
37:12Line up!
37:13Line up!
37:14So if we can get it done in one shot with the dogs, then it will save us a lot of time.
37:23Everybody behave today, please.
37:31Coming down to the river, it's a very steep hill.
37:35And if the dogs panic, they might just stop right away.
37:40Easy!
37:40Easy!
37:41I'm worried I'm going to hit them if I'm too fast.
37:45Easy!
37:46It's going to be intense.
37:48Watch out, they're coming up!
37:53Yo, boys!
37:53It's a good adrenaline shot, and it was fun.
38:06It's a good adrenaline shot, and it was fun.
38:11Good boys!
38:12Good boys!
38:13Good boys!
38:13Good boy, Eiko!
38:14Good boy, Eiko!
38:15Well, now we've got the boards here.
38:17It saved us a lot of carrying.
38:19Hope that'll be enough.
38:20Hope that'll be enough.
38:22We're flat on the top here, so it's a little more stable for the board to go on.
38:36We're using the lock, so it's a little wider to walk on, especially if we have big backpacks
38:52if we go hunting.
38:54You get to put the last board in.
39:02I think it's pretty good for a bush bridge.
39:09You're going to go try it out?
39:11Yep.
39:20You think it's wide enough to go across with a heavy pack?
39:23Kind of bouncy, but it's wide enough.
39:30A little bush engineering and made it work.
39:33It was a pretty hard job, but it's done.
39:37It's not a fancy bridge, but it beats swimming through that raging river anyways.
39:54I know a lot of people like to romanticize this type of life, but at the end of the day,
39:59it's hard work.
40:02It's a constant battle.
40:05No one's here to save you.
40:07It's either you do it or you deal with consequences.
40:12That's the worst of it.
40:14You definitely got a good boatload of wood there.
40:17Now all I got to do is load her up.
40:19Back to the kitchen, drink cup of tea in no time.
40:22Oh Lord, that is some view.
40:26Look at this.
40:27It's amazing this is my backyard.
40:29It's absolutely amazing.
40:32It's hard work.
40:33It's a hard country out here.
40:35When I look out over views like this, it really makes it worth it.
40:40The same rocks, the same cliffs they were looking at a thousand years ago.
40:43It's very humbling.
40:55Good load of wood, that's for sure.
40:58The boat's not that big, so I want to cut this wood to fit kind of perfectly into the boat,
41:05so I can get as much as I can at home in one load.
41:17Old timers say firewood heats you up three times.
41:20One's cutting it, one's getting it to the wood stove, and one's when she goes in the wood stove.
41:25This is number two for me.
41:31Loading up on a rising tide like this, you're constantly trying to keep the boat drying out.
41:36Look, I'm leaving you.
41:41It's nothing like a thing worse than standing on the beach and watching your boat drift away.
41:45You know, like the only option to get that boat back would be to strip down and pray that you can swim fast.
41:54Especially out here in the wintertime.
41:57I'd say that she's maxed.
42:01Well, now all I gotta do is get her home.
42:09She definitely feels heavier than when she had rocks, that's for sure.
42:13Come on, old girl.
42:15You might be cursed, but you ain't gonna sink today.
42:18Not on my watch.
42:26The old cursed boat did pretty good.
42:28That was her first real job.
42:30She did great.
42:32And we got a nice load of wood out of it.
42:35Now let's get all this up to the wood stove and sit back and enjoy it.
42:40Not gonna freeze to death tonight.
42:45Coming in with a nice iron load of dry wood for a fire and have a Ronnie there waiting for me.
42:50Nice little warm house up on the hill.
42:54I feel like a king coming home to my castle.
42:56Just one quick, right?
42:59I'll stay back, I'll stay back, please get back.
43:01We'll see you in the next one.
43:03Please, have a great screen.
43:04Thanks god for coming.
43:05There's a great screen.
43:06We'll see you next time next time.
43:07Thank you guys.
43:08I'm Jeff Bogdan.
43:11We'll see you next time last time.
43:13Thank you, guys.
