00:00do you like that do you well not really but obviously I love a chopper yes and I just
00:09wonder what my god I wonder what that is supposed to have in in it it shows a lot
00:14of promise but that's a step too far shows a lot of work I'm Henry Cole that is comfy
00:24and along with fellow fanatic Fuzz Townsend that's a magnificent pair of choppers up
00:29there we're back on the hunt for vintage treasures in the nation sheds we're gonna
00:36buy them fix them that is fantastic and sell them for a tidy profit welcome to
00:44shed and buried we're on our way to Dave in Burton Dave it seems has rather a lot of
00:58motorcycles okay so is he one of these people who collects them but also buys a
01:08few extras to sort of to supplement his hobby so they don't get afford to do it he
01:14is one of these geezers who imports container loads of motorcycles from
01:20America what's interesting is that he seems to have quite a lot of British
01:25stuff as well as Japanese so he's kind of repatriated British bikes yeah it's not a
01:31bad idea really and he said to me you've got a few European bikes so there's a few
01:37electrical problems right there whether we come back with a Brit bike a Japanese
01:43bike or a European head-scratcher who knows but Burton here we come in there I know you have a
01:52collection of motorcycles tell me how you came about them kind of worked in the
01:56motorcycle industry for years from when I was when I was 16 and then back 2015 got
02:02a H2 Kawasaki you know the 750 triple two-stroke local guy was buying some bits we got
02:07talking and he said do you fancy getting back into it and it was like no not
02:10really because it takes over your life yeah as you know when it's a bug yeah it's an addiction yeah yeah
02:15that's it if it's in your blood this thing yeah that's it you're over yeah I know you'll never
02:20have any money yeah yeah and I ended up buying like a container load of motorbikes from America
02:26so have you sort of like snaffled a few on along the way for you for your own collection oh yeah but
02:30you sort of like you know you trade a little bit as well yeah well yeah cuz I mean like you have to
02:36because just sell one to buy another one because you don't have any money because this all goes in the
02:40petrol tank no understood and tires and change so when we go in there he's everything for sale
02:46nearly nearly one or two I'm talking like 95% I'd say you're kind of 97% 97% that's good
02:557% thereabouts David look we'll have a little rummage about cool yeah call you in on a few
03:00things we need a little bit more info yeah and then at the end of it hopefully we'll have a
03:04haggle yeah so it's cool okay all right now look we've got to keep jiggling right now because of
03:15the because of the cold mate yeah right shall I uh shall I reveal the goodness underneath there we
03:23are right okay you can stop moving for a minute okay so underneath there is the elixir that's called
03:29a gold wing the Honda gold wing is a legendary sports tourer introduced in 1974 it's still in
03:39production today fully fed models are huge but this one is lean and mean so we've got a nice naked gold
03:47wing yeah but that's how I like that very much about this because gold wings I don't normally go for
03:54yeah but they're like wonder they're like one bedroom flats on wheels well that's right but this
04:00looks a little bit more stripped down so therefore I don't know it just appeals a bit more could scrub
04:05up nicely but I'll tell you what I really do like is that Kawasaki Zed classic right here now then again
04:12quintessentially American yes Kawasaki trying to emulate anything to do with Harley or whatever
04:18yeah with those high-rise bars which I love mate I don't know about you I'm not a fan of the high-rise
04:23bar I do like I do like them a bit flat I like eight hangers flatter and wider I know but you know you are
04:29kind of Californian spirited well I am you're absolutely right yeah can you get your leg over
04:34I can get my leg over yeah just see if it just is the compressions there yeah okay all right yeah there's
04:41bit of compression yeah nice all right well so look straight away there's a couple of interesting
04:46possibilities there bars I would change but no no that's got a whole American bar well you might
04:51be right okay come on next door there's a military spec matchless that suffered a defeat I think we've
05:03got a bit of a hydraulic lock in there but otherwise nothing exceptional keep going keep going son it does
05:11get better though isn't it nice to have decent things in stables rather than horses yeah well
05:17at least they don't bother eating while they're sitting in here doing nothing okay so look I'm
05:24going to say one thing in here Laverda 750 SP is it that's an SF mate yeah Laverda was a small
05:32north Italian company which specialized in big sports tourers the SF stood for super franny or powerful
05:40brakes personally for me yeah I would stay away from Italian stuff having been in a place like this
05:47yes just purely because of the electrics and all that kind of stuff it's funny you're saying that
05:52about Italian bikes being suffering a little bit in the cold in a shed kind of thing because it's a
05:58bit like Italian cars I mean that you know but with Italian cars not only do the electric suffer but
06:03they rot away in front of your eyes absolutely so I'll just be wary of that I mean obviously if you were
06:08going to take that away yeah restore it fabulous go for it looks like a fantastic project but for
06:14us we want to do a quick nice little earner yeah I think this is the boulevard of broken dreams this
06:19should oh yeah there's a song about that yeah after you sir come on oh yes there's another pen full of
06:29Japanese bikes we've got quite a few two strokes haven't we and nearby a more interesting looking
06:34triumph time to bring back Dave now is that a 500 this one yes yeah and it looks all up and together
06:42much in numbers so it's got compression yeah JH 16026 JH 16026
06:51introduced in 1967 the Daytona was a sporty triumph named after the famous racetrack having a vintage
07:02bike where the engine number matches the frame number always adds to the value I do love the
07:10high-rise American bars okay yeah do you know what I mean yeah a lot of people say oh no I love standard
07:14flat ones not at all I like standard flat ones I know you do man I know you've got that on your
07:20Norton haven't you yeah your nice flat bars that's right but anyway hey look I love that it's a nice
07:26bike yeah hey that's fantastic why don't you have a look around here and then we'll come and grab you
07:30yeah there's a interesting police bike in there all right I'll go and have a look all right mate hey Jake see you later
07:35thank you thanks bud all right let's go here officer of the law
07:40in the 1970s Kawasaki tried to take over from Harley as the standard US police bike this one's got all
07:51the trimmings but looks a bit grungy do you know I think it would quite suit you why you know I think
07:59get your little police helmet out and get on there how dare you get on your Kawasaki you look
08:05the part it is quite fun I'll tell you what though I just got this feeling that that might need a lot
08:10of work hang on what's under here oh wait a minute oh okay man that's the meat and potatoes is it
08:19yeah that is a rocket gold star those flat bars there that's when I love flat bars yes you know
08:27cool that's a possibility I like it the other thing about it is yeah it does have a British
08:32registration number all right it's going to be telephone numbers okay so look right we've got
08:37that police bike that Daytona out there yeah I like that as a late entry in there a late entry yeah
08:44and then the Kawasaki Z Thao classic yeah by the door and the gold wing at the right price we don't
08:51inquire shall we inquire let's inquire squire okay squire quiet choir so look can we just get a sighting
09:02lap yeah just on prices just to see where we are everything's expensive yeah well I'm sure
09:07this is my terrible concern we start there and then we you know yeah do the haggle down okay so
09:14let's just start through the door there you got yourself a gold wing so that shouldn't be too
09:19much work that's gonna be battery and carbs yeah right that should go yeah yeah how much that I can
09:24do that 27 ish okay now the Kawasaki next to it again 27 everything at the moment see if you ran
09:31about the 20 everything's 2700 okay not everything starting at 2700 pounds Dave so there's a Laverda
09:38there as well there's a silver Laverda SF probably close to four grand on that yeah okay there is a
09:46triumph Daytona with ape hanger bars yeah yeah red one nice nice bike it's gonna need work I mean
09:55similar sort of money 27 ish which is cheap for what it is you've got a police bike how tell me about
10:03that um I bought it from guy in New York it's got a mark to engine 28 mil carbs can I guess how much
10:09it is yeah go on have a guess 27 oh 2750 would you be in the market to four on the Daytona probably not
10:22okay what else would you would you would you do 25 on the Daytona where was I 27 I'd do you 26 I see the glove
10:34came off yeah we're up in Burton with Dave and his barn full of bikes we've offered two and a half grand
10:58for a triumph Daytona but Dave ain't having it oh wait what was that you were 25 I was 26 well that's
11:052550 yeah okay fantastic oh oh hang on look bangles come on hey that's bad news he may die at any
11:15moment no hey Dave well thank you right 2550 on the Daytona all right okay that's a fair deal that's
11:22cool yeah great stuff next day we reveal all to Allen and Skid now don't say that Fuzz and I don't look
11:38after you okay because I know you're gonna be in raptures I do like these Daytona's are lovely bikes
11:45it's nice and original as well it's not seen the road since 1982 apparently yeah I have noticed quite
11:52a bit of disconnected wiring yes oh dear but the bottom line is is that I think it was the best of
11:58quite a large bunch of stuff that I think needed a lot of work doing to it that's right yeah okay and I
12:04thought well we've got a complete motorcycle just about yeah and I also think these eminently saleable
12:10they are okay so look there is quite a lot to do to this right it's kind of tinkering stuff
12:15so hopefully it's not major yeah okay all right well we'll get rid of the shed and give her a go
12:19shall we yeah definitely yeah nice in it goes and we fit a battery to check if it runs ready yeah
12:28ignition light light and even the speed of light works everything works it's a runner can I just say
12:35that is a revelation yeah well we've got something got lights working straight away we've got lights
12:39working straight away that is unheard of did the pattern might work fuzz and skid fit proper
12:44terminals for the battery and Alan does some pre-emptive points cleaning it's going to go
12:50and plug checking oh massive spot I'm very excited this is going to go you know yeah I'm excited as
12:56well have you seen the choke I'm excited I'm always really excited to ride British bikes you get on one
13:03and go oh this is lovely get another one it's an absolutely awful and then after fuzz squirts on
13:10some easy start Alan gives it a kick yes but we get nowhere my excitement is slightly waning Alan does
13:22a running repair on the choke cable and they swap the plugs and give the points another file but even
13:28when fuzz gives the kick start a bit of GBH nada no I think we should try on the rolling road everyone
13:38goes outside to try it on the roller starter but one of the two cylinders isn't working
13:47there's no suction on this side no compression issues Alan heads home leaving fuzz and guy to take
14:00off the carburettors could they be the problem there's nothing obvious so far we don't have any
14:09blockages fuzz kicks again but there's still only one cylinder running I think we've got a deeper issue
14:19yeah potentially potentially a stuck valve or partially stuck valve skid then takes a look at the top of the
14:27engine and spot something mate there's no adjuster in the in the rocker arm well okay so or it snapped off
14:35there that's there's no way of adjusting that some look yeah there you go yeah so that's what it should
14:41have should have the nut and the little post in there yeah so there is no way of doing that so has
14:47it actually snapped off I don't know when fuzz takes off the other cover it's just as bad that's not good
14:55that's not very good skid something's jammed in there I think he's fired this up without locking them
15:01off and they've all come out the actual adjuster has been jamming against here what we definitely
15:08need to do skid is remove the rocker covers and check that this has all been assembled correctly
15:15next day Alan and skid remove the rocker to check if anything has fallen in
15:28the one good thing about this Al is these are fairly straightforward aren't they they're designed
15:34to take apart the side of the road yeah we with three spanners and screwdriver eventually they get
15:41the cover off well so far so good Al it doesn't the rocker doesn't look damaged the pushrod's up Ben
15:48right but where's the bits off it comes Al happy fishing here's the nut can you get it yeah there's
15:55the nut look so will it fit on yes so Al we've retrieved the front nut and it fits it's not damaged
16:06so that's a result but we are missing the back one and that is truly worrying we found one missing
16:13element but what about the other that looks in good condition Al it's not chewed up in there I'm
16:18wondering if he didn't put it in yeah it looks like we need to order a spare when the part comes
16:27it's a very quick job to fit it so in a way that's the result because we can put this back together and
16:33fit the adjuster and lock nut once we've got it it's a shame we had to disassemble all the rocker covers to
16:40find out that bit isn't in the engine let's get cleaning and we can get the part back together
16:44fantastic two days later the new adjusting screw arrives all I've got to do now is fit this in the
16:56rocker arm it's all been put back together and it's ready to assemble however I have put tape round
17:03the rocker on so hopefully I do not drop this back inside the engine stage one skid fits the new screw
17:12here we go stage two he uses the adjuster to tune the valves which allow fuel and air in and exhaust
17:20gases out right so that's set and then just double check that it's got the movement you can hear that
17:26little tick that means it's not tight it has got movement so that's that one done just the caps have
17:32got to go back on but I have got the other side to do in the afternoon Alan turns up he and skid fit a
17:43new choke lever and some new rubbers and then after a bit of spit and polish it's ready to emerge from the
17:50shed it does look lovely doesn't it shine up very nice hasn't it just so mm-hmm does it run this is the
18:01key now I can't possibly kick it because I have a damaged leg I'm out of breath I'm almost out of
18:07breath I'll give it okay yeah go on then come on now well done now this is marvelous okay petrol on
18:11tickle tickly wickly should I put the ignition on I'll give it some choke as well just to make
18:16sure now we've got a new choke ignition on yeah now you've got a choke lever all right ready it's
18:20gonna go first time Al yeah I told you all ready that's fantastic Alan this is remarkable well it
18:42started out it's blowing a little bit of exhaust here and there but I mean I just love the smell yeah
18:46generally so that is fantastic felt really smooth well we take for a test ride I think it's over to you
18:55sir and we're off it's still pretty smoky but it's great to get it back up and running I can't take her
19:06on the normal road she's obviously American regged but just need to get a dating certificate and apply
19:14you should get registration pretty easily the Daytona was developed for the US market with twin carbs for a
19:25sportier performance 17,000 were built but they're pretty rare today now am I right as I was riding when I was
19:36turning it round at the bottom you couldn't breathe yeah there's quite a lot of smoke but it rides fine
19:41apart from that so basically we've got to sell it as a rolling resto basically absolutely I think I
19:47might have a few punters for this actually well you bought it at a sensible price so you've not
19:52got to ask silly money for it all right okay I'll look at my phone book oh next morning Jack arrives he's
20:01a lot younger than the bike but keen to get into motorcycling now listen all right there are issues
20:10Jack like any triumph of that age it needs fettling a little bit but that is reflected in the price so
20:21it just smokes like well like guy and I used to but you like it do you like the ape hanger bars I do I think
20:30they're beautiful give it a service that'll be a sweet little bike yeah three grand two five no
20:41that's too low now we can't go to that now there's no way we can come back with a counter offer but make
20:46it your final one do like it it's a classic two eight shake hands yeah yeah that's a deal nice just about
20:56there we go son and just ride it carefully keep it sunny side up of you great great great great
21:06yeah so look two eight is that quite good yeah you paid two five fifty fifty quids worth of tap
21:11pizza inspection cap so two hundred quid profit yeah and really we haven't had to do a huge amount
21:17no it's needed tinkering yeah but that's what we do anyway that's what we enjoyed yeah well you did
21:21while I was out yeah I enjoyed it I think Al did as well hey look if we can earn 200 quid a day
21:28I mean that would just be fantastic wouldn't it it would that would be every day would be a nice
21:33little earner hmm I'm loving it skid next
