Transcript
00:00Hello and welcome. Good evening. You're watching Super 6 here on India Today. I'm Akshita Nanthi
00:05Gopala with the next 60 minutes. We'll be getting you all the top stories of the day.
00:11Let's begin with a glimpse of what to expect. We're going to be focusing on the big name
00:15change controversy. Mahatma Gandhi and Riga to Viksit Bharatji Ramji Bill. But there's
00:22a huge stalemate between states too. States are up in arms. The likes of the Tamil Nadu
00:27government, the DMK, has questioned the changes that have been made in the scheme. So much
00:32so that BJP's ally TDP has also questioned the funding plan right now. We'll tell you
00:38exactly why. Also coming up on the show at 6.30, we'll talk about the Lutras finally being
00:43dragged back to India. Just moments ago, they emerged out of Delhi's IGI airport. They're
00:49going to be produced in court shortly. So there's live updates coming your way. I'm Akshita
00:53Nanthi Gopala. Here are the top 10 headlines of the day.
00:5710 days after the Goa fire, Lutras have finally been arrested. Lutra brothers taken into custody
01:05by Goa police at Delhi airport. They will be produced before a Delhi court next.
01:12Big win for Gandhi is a National Herald case. Court won't take cognizance of ED charge sheet.
01:17Says no FIR, hence prosecution not maintainable. ED said to move court against Herald order.
01:23ED sources say cognizance of offence already taken.
01:27New rural jobs bills sparks fiery debate in parliament. Priyanka demands Bill be sent to a
01:36standing committee. Says centre shirking responsibility and funds. BJP hits back. Says
01:40Bill needed to bring in reform in the rural employment framework.
01:44Bihar chief minister sparks controversy after he pulls a woman's hijab on stage while handing over
01:55job appointment letters. The opposition lashes out over that exact video seeking an apology from
02:01Nadeesh.
02:10Now let's get you our top focus this evening on Super 6. A proposed overhaul of India's rural jobs
02:16program has sparked a fierce political showdown in parliament and otherwise. This is of course
02:21over the replacement of the Mahatma Gandhi and Rega scheme to a new employment guarantee scheme.
02:26So yes there's a name change but there's a lot more to it as well. Now there are several states
02:32who are up in arms particularly over how funding for the scheme changes things. Let's break down
02:38first for you all the political action that played out today.
02:41Parliament witnessed high voltage drama on Tuesday as the Narendra Modi government introduced
03:05the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajifika Mission Gramin or VB Jiramji Bill. The proposed
03:15legislation will replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. With the new bill
03:21the centre is pushing a major reset of rural employment. While Manrega guaranteed 100 days of work. The VB Jiramji Bill
03:36ups it to 125 days. Manrega was fully funded by the centre whereas VB Jiramji makes the state provide
03:4540 percent of the funding. The opposition accused the BJP of dismantling a flagship welfare scheme
03:53linked to Mahatma Gandhi. The Congress called it an attempt to centralise control and dilute workers' rights.
04:01The government hit back. Rural Development Minister
04:31Mr. Shivaraj Singh Chauhan argued the bill is for public welfare. Insisting Gandhi lives in our hearts. And that VB Jiramji reflects
04:40its city. But what does wrong with the government, the government?
04:49And if you must have been government, the government says,
04:51your government tells us that you're all anda. You're all anda and your government,
04:55you're all right. You're all right. You're all right. You're all right. You're all right.
04:59protest filled outside the house as well opposition leaders accuse the center of
05:15being anti-gandhi and politicizing lord ram
05:18some mp's staged a dramatic rooftop protest at the old parliament meanwhile ndali tdp flagged concerns
05:44warning of added financial burden on states is a welcome move that whatever uh amendments that
05:52you're bringing in with with respect to the betterment of narega at the same time this is
05:57what andhra pradesh is facing from 2014 itself and you have been helping us and last one and a half year
06:04people of andhra have seen how much union government has helped and we expect and we request
06:10that help to continue even with respect to the narega going forward despite the storm government
06:17sources say the center is determined to pass the vbg ramji bill in this session clearing way for
06:24approval on the upcoming budget session and remains firm that the name won't be changed
06:31with mosh me singh and aishwarya palewal in delhi bureau report india today
06:36okay let me bring in piyush mishra joining us live from delhi we have apurva jaichandran joining us
06:44live from vijaywada to tell us what the tdp really has to say on this piyush to you first
06:49on how the government really is firefighting the criticism that's coming their way this isn't just
06:54limited to you know a political fight the reality is that there are some allies also who are voicing
06:59concerns well there's no doubt actually that allies are voicing concern and tdp has made it
07:05very clear that yes they are very much uh in the mood of welcoming the amendments which with which
07:10the government is coming up with uh the new uh bill but uh at the same time you know they have the
07:16concern about the laws which the states are going to bear why because of uh this time the ratio has been
07:23increased uh from uh uh 1910 to 60 40 which means that uh the central government is going to pay 60
07:30percent and the state government will have to be around 40 percent uh uh the apprehension of tdp is
07:35that there are various states including uh you know their state uh uh you know where uh it will not be
07:42easy to bear such a huge amount and that's why they have raised uh uh the uh they have expressed their
07:47concerns and on the other side sources in the government actually have told us that uh it will not be an
07:53issue for the government and that they have very much determined to get it past this uh uh bill
07:58itself but the the optics the optics aren't great and i'll bring in apurva jaychandran on that apurva the
08:03tdp has so far made it clear that you know they're not for the bill they have concerns that they want
08:10addressed has that issue been sorted out lakshita in fact if you've seen even uh you know when there was
08:18the amendments to the work bill or several other important uh uh you know decisions that needed to
08:23be approved uh there there was a consensus that was taken in across the nda parties and the
08:29alliances that the bjp has had with other regional parties as well much like that this is also yet
08:34another uh you know amendment that the tdp is you know willing to explore further as well even for the
08:40work bill if we see there was a lot of discussions in which the tdp had actively participated
08:45the party has already uh you know uh looked into the amendment and uh what we are getting to hear
08:51from sources is that they will take only an informed decision after they've been uh you know able to
08:56get a roundabout uh assessment of what this amendment is and what it is going to bring for the state uh
09:03state individually as well so there is a lot of discussions that is currently uh underway and it
09:08is clear that the tdp will have a final say only used to have those concerns those issues thanks
09:14pish thanks apurva for those details but let's talk about really the scheme and the change that's
09:19been brought in i'd like to bring in on this broadcast mr sc garg author and former finance
09:24and economic affairs secretary we also have group editor of business today siddharth zarabi with us on
09:29this broadcast and before uh you know this takes a political turn uh mr garg i'd like to first begin
09:35with your opening remarks of what we're seeing right now did you think first of all there was a need
09:39for this kind of an overhaul see uh the the bill which has been brought out does not really provide
09:47a great justification for the uh for it uh it essentially dilutes the guarantee it makes the
09:56financial burden of the government of india is smaller and it allows the central government to
10:03make lots of obligatory uh authorities or the state government it does not really add anything to
10:11make the life of the workers or who seek the employment better so i don't think this
10:18is is a great uh bill or there is a great need for it so that what do you think uh you know mr garg
10:24is saying very clearly that there's maybe no need for this kind of a change what do you think
10:29well i i would honestly say that a scheme that is now been uh in place for two decades remember
10:38this came into effect in 2005 the then upa government took a earlier sort of concept and kind of made it
10:45a rights based uh scheme that 20 years is good enough time to revisit any proposal and make it more relevant
10:54uh in line with current needs i think the biggest way to uh clearly understand this bill is that
11:02it's a shift from rights based to a budget as well as need based kind of approach of course it uh adds
11:11some amount of uh obligation on uh states yeah but remember from hundred percent being paid by the
11:18uh center when it comes to unskilled it is now a graded responsibility do states also have a role in
11:25this space absolutely but a lot of the fine print seems to suggest that this scheme will make it more
11:31targeted it will ensure that there are lesser leakages there will be use of modern technology and the
11:39ability to ensure through the schemes that work that is needed to be done on the ground gets done just one
11:46quick example akshita we know that in the farm sector a lot of farmers complain about the availability of
11:54farm hands during critical seasons what this does is that it provides that flexibility although it could
12:01also be argued that by taking the work days from 100 to 125 or 25 percent increase there will be a
12:09smaller window so there is need for a debate but i am on the side of saying that this is a much needed
12:16overhaul okay so interesting you've got both views essentially between mr garg and siddharth but
12:21mr garg you know siddharth has a point when he says why not you're seeing a scheme here that hasn't
12:27undergone any major revamp maybe it was time that you plug in all of those leaky points see uh it's always
12:36good to review and to plug the leaking points if there are but that's not what this bill does
12:43the the essential architecture of the developmental scheme in this country have been two one is the
12:50centrally sponsored schemes and the other one is the guaranteed kind of facilities and the schemes
12:56which have been run mg narega was a guaranteed kind of scheme where respective of whatever is the demand
13:05that was to be satisfied now it converts that into a centrally sponsored schemes without
13:13still retaining only in the normative sense the guarantee so guarantee is only formally left out
13:20in the bill there is no real guarantee and second thing the the guarantee which was earlier given by the
13:28central government was based on the central government funding the key uh the entire expenditure of it
13:35except the unemployment allowance which was to be paid by the state which continues to be paid by the
13:41state even now so when you dilute your guarantee and you know you don't you don't even fund that
13:48then you are no longer using that guaranteed framework nor for the centrally sponsored schemes you don't
13:54require an act there are hundreds of centrally sponsored schemes you take it take take them up
14:01and implement as a centrally sponsored schemes with your conditions and all but when you bring a law
14:07guaranteeing something that guarantee has to be satisfied that is what it takes away so i don't think
14:13this mix-up which is being done by this bill by saying to offer a guarantee but actually not offering guarantee
14:23is a brilliant idea i want to talk about the state's concern and i'll bring in also dr sayed hafeez
14:29spokesperson of the dmk radhika khera national spokesperson of the bjp on this broadcast mr garg i
14:34know you're short of time so if you can be with us on this uh debate and this panel we'd appreciate it
14:39but of course if you have to go uh we are thankful that you took the time out to join us i'll begin with
14:43the dmk on this dr hafeez uh what really is the dmk's contention right now against this particular
14:51scheme against the rejago of the mahatma gandhi and rega just taking the name of mahatma gandhi is
15:00a total different problem but we coming to the problem financially what i could say is that see
15:06the state government are already deprived of funds because you have increased the funds for funds into
15:13the non-divisible pool in the form of this even in the divisible pool there are allegations there are
15:19even you know data that suggests that the union government is not being fair when it comes to
15:24devolution of funds and this but
15:32when the finance commission contribution towards the state to the divisible from the divisible
15:38this is the problem now on one hand you come and complain that the state governments are
15:43getting more debt though it is within the gdp to debt ratio this is the allegation that these people put
15:48on the uh government of saminado now i'll tell you what you do is what you do there is already a farm
15:54insurance scheme in the name of the prime minister you bought this it's 50 50 then you made it into 75
16:00percent contribution from the state and 25 from the union so there you are burdening us more and more
16:05this is a hundred day scheme in the past 20 years it contributed to removing poverty out of state and
16:14decreasing poverty across the uh country now this is a successful formula why do you have to come up
16:20with the new thing to disturb this and make it more hard for the state this is a simple on one hand you
16:28uh cut down on the divisible pool and then you burden the states this is going to be very difficult
16:34for the state government to function siddharth what do you think of this contention that you know states
16:40now will have to pay the price about the change in the ratio of payment not at all let me just refer
16:46to three quick lines proposed cost sharing under jairamji bill is 90 10 center to state for northeastern
16:54states himalayan states and uts with legislature 60 40 for all other states and union territories with
17:02the legislature 100 central funding for uts without legislature so there is a amount of direct wage
17:10liability that is shifted to the states but you have to read it with other areas you know without
17:17taking too much time and uh you know getting detailed what will the work that will be done
17:23see if the state is giving money for a moment accept that and then ask what is going to come out of it
17:29what will come out of it is water related projects core rural infrastructure livelihood related
17:36infrastructure and extreme weather mitigation work so when you read it clause by clause you realize that
17:43yes some amount of liability is coming on to states but it is becoming a supply side driven scheme
17:49which will intervene as and when required why have a problem with that no no no no no no there is
17:57a problem quickly dr hafees then let me bring in radhika it was previously it was previously a demand
18:03driven now there is a clause there's going to be a fixed funds for the state even if the demand is
18:08small there's not going to be a more allocation like it was done previously that is a problem now the
18:13parameter that has been taken 100 days guarantee 100 days guarantee was not being met in even
18:21previously sir the data shows that 100 days guarantee was not being met previously in fact what the
18:28states and center should be talking about is how can we ensure that 125 days are fully consumed
18:35okay so so if i'm here to if i'm here to listen to someone i'll sit and listen but if no no go ahead
18:43dr hafees quickly go ahead that was just a counter to what you said a very critical point sir said there
18:48is going to be a supply side no it was a demand driven scheme which has now become a fixed scheme
18:54even if there is going to be demand there is not going to be increase in allocation of funds and
18:58states which are developed where the mdpa is slow in tamiladu which is less than three percent there is going
19:04to be lesser amount that is allotted to tamil nadu this is where tamil nadu is going to get affected
19:10you know we will talk about tamil nadu in specific but let me bring in radhika khera also has been
19:14waiting rather patiently radhika khera you've been hearing what's been playing out in the dmk's
19:17allegation the reality is that this isn't just the dmk there are many states who are also voicing a
19:23similar concern including your own ally the tdp jai shri ram and i request you to give me two
19:30minutes to explain the entire thing the entire controversy is not about manrega is not about
19:35jobs it's not about uh jee ramji it's not about workers it's not about rural distress it is about
19:41the congress party losing control over political branding of welfare screens for decades the
19:47congress has treated public money as a private advertising budget for the nehru gandhi family
19:52they named renamed schemes after schemes after their family without improving outcomes i repeat without
19:58improving outcomes now today the same party is pretending that renaming is some kind of sacrilege
20:04let me remind everyone of facts here first of all mandrega was never mahatma gandhi national rural
20:09employment guarantee act it was first started as national rural employment guarantee act fine they
20:14renamed it but what they did after renaming it was not giving honor to mahatma gandhi it was insulting
20:20mahatma gandhi because they did not reform the scheme they did not ensure that the scheme reached every
20:26person and every person got benefit of it this is the hypocrisy that has been exposed today let's
20:31talk about substance because this government only talks about governance since 2006 11.74 lakh crore
20:38has been spent on this scheme now out of which 8 lakh 53 crores that's nearly 75 percent of the entire
20:44budget since 2006 has been spent under street prime minister shi narendra modiji's government alone so
20:49please spare us the lectures on commitment to the poor now what is changing is not the guarantee what is
20:54changing is the quality transparency and relevance of employment under the new vixit bharat jiramji
21:00framework guaranteed work days have been increased to 125 payments are weekly or time bound not
21:06endlessly delayed like they were under the congress gps real-time data mobile monitoring and ai-based fraud
21:12detections are being introduced focus is shifting to water security rural infrastructure livelihoods and
21:18climate regions this is not dilution this is modernization rural india in 2025 is not rural
21:24rural india of 2005 where now rural poverty has dropped from 25.7 percent to under five percent
21:29connectivity is improving livelihoods have diversified and open-ended poorly monitored daily
21:34wage model no longer fits today's economy okay let me do your question about the allies opposing this
21:42reform let me make this very clear i have even read the report that india today has published
21:46what some of our allies are discussing is funding mechanics they are not opposing the reform nobody's raising
21:52questions on the name which is normal federal government governance it is not resistant the outrage is
21:57only existing in the india alliance ecosystem because for them names matter more than outcome no
22:02but i'm focusing on the funding i'm not talking about the name forget the name controversy you know let's
22:06talk about the merit of what's in that particular bill let's talk about the merits of that and on
22:11that particular issue of states having concerns what about that they are raising their concerns which
22:17will be uh addressed by the government that this is like i said it is federal government governance this
22:23is not resistance the when this bill has come across and since we are actually a democratic alliance that
22:29is why we call a national democratic alliance the name says it all we are not an indi thak bandhan where nobody
22:34goes one party says something and the other party say something uh if a particular alliance has raised a
22:39concern that will be discussed and sorted out nobody is rejecting it nobody is going against it it is
22:45normal normal federal governance no that's how funding mechanics are discussed so that explain explain
22:52to us the difference of what the current scheme says versus the revamped scheme uh like i said there are
22:57many state governments right now that are having concerns how do you think they should be addressed or
23:02do you think that there's absolutely no cause for concern here fy 24 data i will take only that
23:09year's data to answer the question that have funds not been provided whether center or states let leave
23:16that aside it is after all taxpayers in fy 24 the budget estimate which is the initial promise was 60 000
23:25crore in the final actual spending it went closer to 90 000 crore what does that mean that 50 percent more
23:35funds than what had been promised in the funds than what had been promised in the budget announcement
23:38ended up being spent 12 months later in the financial year if you look at other data pre and post and we should
23:46not use the covid year data because that is an aberration let's normalize from fy 23 24 onwards
23:54i do not know of a proven instance where work was denied because of lack of funding payments have been delayed because
24:02earlier remember payments were fortnightly now you are mandated to pay weekly now who can argue against
24:09a rural worker getting money in hand every week rather than having to wait uh and get it after two weeks
24:19the devil lies in the argument that should some burden shift to states i am on the side of saying that the
24:28states should also be contributing whether it will be 50 50 50 60 afford it siddharth can some states
24:34afford it of course you know you'll hear constantly you'll hear the likes of the opposition states
24:39already having this gst show akshita tamil nad tamil nad is is a pride of india in terms of its industrial base
24:49it is one of the largest manufacturing states in this country at business today we do various
24:55data crunching tamil nadu aces so many of those metrics why would tamil nad have a problem
25:02dr hafees do you want to respond to that why does tamil nad have a problem i don't think you have a
25:06problem with finances certainly has a problem because the the gentleman should also question
25:12why this has been introduced why is the amount of funds of the union budget the taxes the the set
25:19has improved they have increased the says and they've stopped devoluting sir this is our due right
25:23of the state you have to have a fixed devolution formula and you have to give it just to cheat the
25:29people of the state of tamil nadu there is more sense that has been taken and from the set you don't
25:35give us but you give to the sales that suits your political agenda where you think you can win
25:40that is the problem we have been taking so are you suggesting dr hafees come on this is a this is
25:44about the running of a state are we really suggesting that you know there's loot happening
25:51what else can we say what else can we say when you say it's for the benefit of the people
25:57it is benefit of the people that benefit should also be given to the people of tamil nadu who are
26:02more industrialized paying more taxes to the country on the other hand you say no no because
26:06that is a subject for the finance commission it is not a subject for the for the rural employment
26:12program one minute exactly what we are saying sir we you we india today has also made a story on how
26:18the finance commission was tried to be influenced by the the finance minister in the past so all this
26:25i don't think you should be making those conclusions about a story that report has been submitted
26:31and we don't know what is inside that report so honestly i don't think you should keep repeating that
26:35claim i am i am telling the story which the which the man who was in the center of affairs have made
26:42it public so that is what i am quoting it might be right tamil nadu is india's largest manufacturing
26:48based state economy it is the pride of india when it comes to exports manufacturing services
26:55i don't think tamil nadu has a problem with 10 percent or 40 percent i think the question siddharth is
27:01constantly asking dr hafiz is does this really dent tamil nadu's economy dr hafiz dr hafiz you're
27:09saying the people of tamil nadu dr hafiz just listen to me for a moment please does this really dent
27:14tamil nadu's economy when you see this kind of change in ratio because as siddharth pointed out this
27:19is a thriving state one of the best in the country and the people of tamil nadu that's of course another
27:25matter this is the government let's face it the dmk the government that's got an issue right now with
27:29that particular scheme that we're talking about with the proposal it's not only the dmk or i think
27:37probably almost all parties in tamil nadu will be standing united when there is going to be a dent
27:43to the funding of the states that we can see in the bjp's own ally where tdp is creating an issue on
27:49this so this is a problem irrespective of you have grown or not grown now you say india has also grown
27:55india is also growing we are the third largest economy why should the union government put the
27:59burden on the state let it take it on itself you're also a devastated you claim every now and then we
28:05are the third largest economy i mean who is there benefiting who is there benefiting who is there
28:09benefiting radhika khaira yeah you know uh from what i could hear from the dmk spokesperson and what the
28:16dmk is opposing our i could only hear parts of what he was saying because of bad audio what i don't
28:20understand is why is dmk creating human crime tamil nadu is not a poor state it is just a poorly
28:25prioritized state there is no money problem there is just governance problem in tamil nadu which they
28:30should sort it out tamil nadu is one of india's most economically capable states it has a large
28:34industrial base strong manufacturing ports exports and diversified economy so the issue is not capacity
28:40to pay the issue is priorities and fiscal discipline no so the question that the dmk is constantly
28:45raising is why is the center why is the central government why doesn't the df why does the state
28:51or not uh cut down on the expanded high cost freebie schemes without long-term funding clarity
28:56the revenues tested in keys increase because of expenditure growth that has outpaced their reforms
29:01bmk has contest continuously chosen political populism over administrative efficiency which is why they have
29:06a problem at the same time they're also resisting transparency audits and compilence which is which is
29:11very important in the centrally funded scheme so when they say where will we give the money from
29:16the answer is you have the money you just don't want the accountability attached to it you don't
29:20want to do anything for the people you just want up the when the elections are there this we should
29:24give for free that we should give for free which is why the uh the way the congress government
29:32i did not speak over you you can easily afford this when the state and center you can easily afford
29:37this but the problem is that this will be verified transfer and deployment program it is not afford
29:42affordability this is about losing control over the systems and they will be exposed that they are
29:47not uh actually here to improve poverty they are not actually here for the people okay that is the
29:52actual problem okay dr hafees your response before i wrap this up please i think radika is contradicting
29:58herself and her union government the data which are coming that they say that we have done the best in
30:04eliminating poverty on other hand she says that we continue to keep them in the grab of poverty this
30:09is totally contradicting your own union government which says that we have done well and thank you
30:13for appreciating tamil nadu it is so much everyone is dr hafees the takeaway from this is everyone's
30:18talking about how well tamil nadu is doing yeah yeah then i think the union ministers when they come next
30:24him do not say that tamil nadu supposed it because of the drabidian government thanks to the drabidian
30:29government i don't i don't want to get into why tamil nadu is doing it it's doing well
30:40i don't want to get into why dr hafees quickly yeah
30:44thanks to thanks to the people of tamil nadu that they did not select bjp and kept tamil nadu a developed
30:49state so thanks for your uh acknowledgement over that the the problem is
30:53the fund deficit is a reality the fund deficit is a reality in the all the states irrespective of
31:01the state which are ruled by bjp or not coming to the populism and election thing i think you should
31:05lecture the nda which promised 10 000 before the elections to the voters in bha 75 lakh is a huge
31:12amount so all this is there okay just quickly before i wrap this up siddharth has a question for you no no
31:18just one line and a question for everyone akshita should tamil nadu or gujarat pay lesser than a
31:25manipur or a ladakh are we going to sit and debate uh that that the people of ladakh or in our northeastern
31:33states or the uh you know lesser a well-to-do economies in the east of india or in central india
31:40should they be asked to be at the same rung in terms of contribution as tamil nadu or gujarat or
31:46some of our industrially advanced states i don't think that is even an argument that we should be
31:51having on national television honestly akshita dr hafees your response to that do you really think
31:57let's let's take an example coming out to manipur are they on the same pedestal same level no no that
32:01that is not the argument we are not so insensible to have such an argument but we can certainly argue
32:08there should be some rational in the way the union government in country where as a prime minister
32:16who said it is under this government the country has developed shifting the burden from the union
32:21government to the state government is something irresponsible it's just a propaganda it shows that
32:28the entire development image is nothing but a propaganda but in reality the union government
32:33has a lot of debts and to escape that it is pushing the burden on the state government which has to be
32:38resisted by any state government of the day you know most you will see that it's a center and states
32:44center and states for a reason that you work together even on these schemes but we'll leave it at that
32:51i've run out of time thank you very much siddharth zarabi uh radhika khaira as well as dr hafees for
32:56joining us for that very very interesting discussion questions being asked right now about the revamped
33:02scheme of the mahatma ghadi end regga scheme being revamped where there's a big question about how
33:07funding has changed and whether that will lead to issues for the bjp there are some within the nda
33:13who are also speaking out thank you all very much for joining me let's cut across to breaking news coming in
33:17karnataka chief minister nataka continues remember that the assembly session is underway in karnataka
33:34where the bjp again questioned sidramaya asking who is the chief minister are you going to continue
33:40as the chief minister sidramaya has reiterated on the floor of the house saying i am chief minister
33:46now here's the catch sidramaya says i am chief minister till the high command wishes the bjp has
33:53latched on to that mocking sidramaya saying earlier you used to say i will be the chief minister
33:58i'll finish my full term what's changed listen in to that sequence
34:04when you look at what they're going to get i come and now
34:09say
34:11You have the problem.
34:18Sir, what are you saying?
34:20I am the leader of the country.
34:26I am the leader of the country.
34:31You are the leader of the country.
34:34You have the leader of the country.
34:39You have the leader of the country.
35:09Absolutely.
35:11Let me give the background of this particular clash between the BGP and Congress inside the assembly.
35:16The MLA, Kunigal MLA Ranganath, who is also a brother-in-law of DK Shukumar, who is of a brother camp of DK Shukumar.
35:25So he raises the question of funds which has not been released, especially from the cooperative society.
35:30Remember, cooperative society earlier was headed by Sidramaya's close aide, K and Rajana, saying that there is no funds being released for his constituency for the farmers and from the cooperative society.
35:41So he raises the question.
35:43When Ranganath raises the question, the BJP tried to cash in in the situation where they say that your own MLA, your own MLA from your party raising the questions on the funds.
35:53So how long you will be the chief minister?
35:56So they had questioned him, saying that your own MLA is raising the question.
35:59They are not getting the funds.
36:00This clearly shows that all is not well between your own government and between your own leaders.
36:06That's when Sidramaya stands and says that our party will remain for five years.
36:11When they question him, will you be the chief minister for five years, he says that our party will be for five years.
36:16If high command allows me, I'll complete five years.
36:20That's when the argument soars up between both of them.
36:24And CM says that I'll be chief minister now, even tomorrow or even in the future.
36:28So it all depends upon the high command.
36:30So there is a clause saying that if the high command says that he will continue the chief minister,
36:34where the opposition is trying to catch in in the situation, saying that no development is happening.
36:38It is only the infighting which is leading in the state of Karnataka.
36:42And people have to ultimately suffer because of this power tussle in the state.
36:47It's like we've always said, there's no smoke without fire.
36:50Evidence right there for you.
36:51Thanks very much, Sakai, for joining us with those details.
37:01The Lutra brothers, the owners of the Goa nightclub that went up in flames 10 days ago,
37:05leading to 25 people dying, have finally been brought back to India.
37:09Remember, they fled to Bangkok.
37:11They have now touched down in the national capital, brought out of Delhi's IGI airport.
37:16And as we speak, they're being taken for a medical check.
37:19This is, of course, part of protocol.
37:21After this, they're going to be taken to Delhi's Patiala house court,
37:24where the Goa police will seek the official remand.
37:27They've formerly been arrested at the Delhi airport, where a team of Goa police was standing by, was waiting.
37:33But what we're seeing right now is super fast, speedy action that's been taken by our authorities
37:39to ensure the Lutra brothers don't get away.
37:41Nanani Sharma, our legal editor, is joining us live from the Delhi court, the Patiala house court,
37:46where the brothers will be produced in just some time from now.
37:49Nanani, we understand the formal arrest has already taken place.
37:52So what really will play out in the courts in a bit from now?
38:00Akshita, like you correctly pointed out, the biggest hurdle was to ensure that these two brothers are brought back at the earliest,
38:06so that they can face the law and can be tried for the offences that they have been accused of.
38:11And now that they have been officially brought back, the next step, like you correctly pointed out, is ongoing.
38:16They are undergoing a medical examination right now.
38:19This is necessary, Akshita, because these medical records and documents have to be submitted before the court,
38:25when the remand is being sought, to ensure that they are medically fit to be in the custody of the Goa police,
38:31to undergo the entire inquiry, the investigation and the interrogation that's going to take place.
38:38Along with that, what we are going to see today, before the Patiala house court,
38:42is the Goa police asking for transit remand of these two accused,
38:46so that they can essentially be taken to Goa,
38:48which is where they are finally going to ask for their custodial remand,
38:51and that's where the entire investigation and the custodial interrogation is then expected to happen.
38:56Akshita.
38:57Alright, we'll track all those updates. Thanks very much, Nanani, for joining us.
39:01Okay, let's move on and give you some of the highlights of the IPL auction,
39:09and it's raining money in Abu Dhabi.
39:11This is the 2026 mini auction that's underway.
39:14The Australian all-rounder Cameron Green became the costliest overseas player in IPL history,

39:25The biggest purse coming into the auctions,
39:28the 2024 champions bought Matisha Patirana for 18 crores,
39:32who's the second costliest buyer of the day so far.
39:35And then you have also, besides the international players,
39:38the Indian uncapped players, Prashant Veer and Karthik Sharma,
39:41who were sold for 14.2 crores each to the same franchise, Chennai Super Kings.
39:47The right-arm fast bowler from Jamoon Kashmir, Aqib Alidar,
39:51who's been a star performer in the domestic circuit,
39:53was sold to the Delhi Capitals for 8.4 crores from a base price of 30 lakhs.
39:58Another big buy so far was Ravi Bishnoi, Venkatesh Iyer as well,
40:03both of whom were sold to Rajasthan Royals for 7.2 crores.
40:07My apologies there, you had Ravi Bishnoi to Rajasthan Royals for 7.2 crores,
40:13and Venkatesh Iyer who was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 7 crores.
40:17And that's all we have time for in this edition of Super 6.
40:22Thanks very much for tuning in.
40:24I'm leaving you with images of star India batter Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma
40:28visiting Premanand Maharaj in his ashram.
40:31This is in Vrindavan.
40:33Video has emerged of the same.
40:34Remember that Virat Kohli and Anushka touched down from London
40:38for a brief 48-hour visit in which they were seen landing in Vrindavan
40:43for a meet with Premanand Maharaj for a spiritual conversation.
40:49Thank you very much for watching.
