The moment from the nominated 'Hillbilly Elegy' actress stole the show at Sunday's 93rd Academy Awards.
Transcript
00:00Wait a second, I know, that's Da Butt.
00:03Glenn Close wants everyone to know that her headline-making Oscars dance to Da Butt was completely spontaneous.
00:09The 73-year-old actress, an eight-time Oscar nominee, stole the show on Sunday night
00:13when she participated in a game of movie and music trivia hosted by Lil Rel Howery
00:17and correctly guessed the 1988 song Da Butt by E.U. from the School Days soundtrack.
00:22It was a classic song by the great Washington, D.C. go-go band E.U.
00:28So, yeah, shout-outs to Sugar Bear and the backyard band and the whole DMV.
00:34As it turned out, that part of the bit was scripted, but what came next was not.
00:38Do you know the dance, though? Do you know how to do Da Butt?
00:41Quest, turn it up! Come on, let's see it, let me see you do Da Butt, let's see it!
00:48The moment instantly went viral.
00:50Close explained just how the bit went down in a post to her Instagram.
00:53She wrote on Monday,
00:54We had the most fun at our table at the Oscars last night.
00:57Chris Terrio, one of my best friends, was my gallant escort.
01:00Daniel Kaluuya and Daryl Britt Gibson were wonderful tablemates.
01:04I knew that Lil Rel was going to quiz me about Da Butt,
01:06and all three guys helped me run through what I was to say.
01:09Close continued,
01:10I had Googled Da Butt and watched School Days director Spike Lee's music video,
01:13so when Lil Rel asked if I could do the dance,
01:15you can actually see me think of the video.
01:17That part was completely spontaneous.
01:20Daniel, Daryl, and Chris egged me on.
01:22It was all their fault.
01:23Though the celebrated actress did not take home the Oscar trophy for her role in Hillbilly Elegy on Sunday,
01:28she received widespread praise for providing such an entertaining moment during the telecast,
01:32including from Lee himself.
01:34You were getting down.
01:35All right, Glenn.
