00:00Chuck, listen, when you have a president who's a financial genius and a business
00:05Jesus, like Donald Trump, you just gotta trust him.
00:09This week's edition of SNL dove right back into politics as it took on the latest
00:13President Trump issues for its cold open. The show parodied NBC's Meet the Press
00:17with Kyle Mooney playing host Chuck Todd, asking a panel of GOP members what would it
00:21take to stop supporting Trump. Beck Bennett played Senator Mitch McConnell,
00:25Cecily Strong played Senator Susan Collins, and Kate McKinnon took on the GOP's
00:29latest bad boy, Lindsey Graham. Mooney's Todd threw out a bunch of hypothetical
00:33situations like what if Robert Mueller testified in front of Congress and said that
00:37Trump colluded with the Russians, to which Strong's Collins replied,
00:40Well, I'd have to write a strongly worded email and send it straight to my draft folder.
00:47And Bennett's McConnell stress-aid a piece of lettuce at Todd's hypothetical that
00:50Trump is actually Muslim. The hypotheticals got more and more absurd like what if
00:54Trump were to divorce Melania for a certain someone else which did not sit well with
00:58any of them.
01:00But the GOP members still didn't bite and it seemed like nothing was enough to lose their
01:09support of the President, even with this final attempt.
01:13Okay, let's say Trump open hand slaps you in the face. What would you say then?
01:17Harder, Daddy.
01:19Elsewhere in the episode, Emma Thompson took on hosting duties for the evening and dedicated
01:26her opening monologue to motherhood, even shouting out her own daughter in the audience.
01:30The actress also brought out Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to help her out with a bit about what
01:35mothers say versus what they really mean.
01:37When you ask your mother what she wants to do for Mother's Day and she says...
01:42Just to relax in the backyard, maybe a massage.
01:45What she's actually asking is...
01:47How does one buy weed?
01:49The Mother's Day references continued in the episode, including in a short starring
01:53Thompson and Heidi Gardner discussing the joys of motherhood before cutting to the harsh
01:57reality of parenting.
01:58Pete Davidson even brought out his actual mother, Amy Davidson, during Weekend Update and talked
02:14about their big Mother's Day plans.
02:15What do you guys have planned for tomorrow?
02:17What do you mean? I put her on TV. This is it.
02:21As host, Thompson definitely brought on the laughs throughout the night, playing various
02:25characters including an etiquette coach that kept getting violent with Leslie Jones who
02:29played a distant relative of the royal baby, an actress rivaling McKinnon in a black-and-white
02:33movie in which both were trying to get in the last line the whole time, and a judge on
02:38CHOP where the contestants had to work with ingredients like a five-pound horse penis, loose
02:42sugar, a kitten and cigarettes.
02:44The host also played a fake psychotherapist for a daytime TV series hosted by McKinnon and even
02:49got to sing during a bit about Beauty and the Beast.
02:51But one of the highlights of the night, well, maybe just one of my highlights for the night,
03:03included a cameo from the Jonas Brothers.
03:05The JoBros were the musical guests for the night, but still managed to sneak into one of
03:08the sketches.
03:09The trio played defendants who ruined a house during a party in a daytime TV parody called
03:13Judge Court.
03:14Well, I spilled the snacks, I brought my skateboard into the living room, and then I set the house
03:19on fire.
03:21Thompson McKinnon and Aidy Bryant played three judges who tied for last place in their law school
03:26class and were best friends.
03:27The judges were smitten by the boy band, so they got away with the crime and instead invited
03:31them out to dinner.
03:32The Jonas Brothers also performed their hits old and new like Sucker and Burning Up, keeping
03:36the SNL crowd pumped all night.
