00:00And live from Zoom, it's sometime between March and August!
00:04Yay!
00:06This is crazy. Let's do this.
00:09SNL is saying the show must go on.
00:11The NBC sketch comedy show returned this past weekend with a Saturday Night Live at Home special,
00:16swapping the usual live format for a series of pre-recorded, remotely performed sketches.
00:21Kenan Thompson kicked off the show before the usual intro played,
00:24featuring footage of the cast in their houses doing things like juggling canned foods,
00:28microwaving, and having a tea party with dolls.
00:31The episode was hosted by Tom Hanks, who was diagnosed with the coronavirus in March
00:34and delivered the show's regular opening monologue.
00:37It is a strange time to try and be funny, but trying to be funny is SNL's whole thing.
00:44So we thought, what the heck? Let's give it a shot.
00:47He also reassured viewers during the monologue that he and his wife Rita Wilson,
00:50who was also diagnosed, are doing fine now.
00:52The Oscar winner also mimicked the question-and-answer format of a typical host monologue
00:56and fielded questions from himself in costumes.
00:59There were also several political sketches during the special at-home edition of SNL,
01:02such as Kate McKinnon reprising her ongoing Ruth Bader Ginsburg impression,
01:06although without the usual hair and makeup.
01:08Oh, hello.
01:10I'm Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and I wanted to say a heartfelt hello to everyone on the second side.
01:16Larry David recording himself doing his reoccurring Bernie Sanders impression.
01:19Hello, America. It's me, Bernie Sanders. Always a bridesmaid. Never the Democratic nominee.
01:27And Alec Baldwin calling into a remote weekend update, reprising his role as President Donald Trump
01:31to discuss the state of the nation in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
01:35I had to tone down the ethnic slurs after I discovered that everything we need to survive the virus is made in China.
01:42Baldwin's Trump went on to say, despite all the hardships,
01:44there was one thing that could bring the whole country together.
01:46All Americans can agree on one thing.
01:50Carol Baskins definitely fed her husband to those tigers.
01:53Other sketches involved Pete Davidson doing a parody of a Drake song
01:57played over a music video directed by his mom in his home.
02:05A masterclass quarantine edition sketch featuring Chloe Fineman
02:08performing impressions of Timothee Chalamet, Jojo Siwa, and Carol Baskin.
02:12Riding my bike on the big kitty lake around the kitty cat preserve
02:16and I didn't kill my husband.
02:17And a dating show parody, How Low Will You Go?, featuring singles ready to date post-quarantine.
02:22Well, I think it's safe to say none of our ladies were...
02:24Yeah, okay, he's fine.
02:26You don't want to ask him anything first?
02:28No.
02:29Meanwhile, Cold Place Chris Martin served as a musical guest for the evening,
02:32performing a cover of Bob Dylan's Shelter from the Storm.
02:34The episode ended with a tribute to Hal Willner, the show's sketch music producer since 1981,
02:52who died Monday of complications related to COVID-19.
02:56Former cast members including Adam Sandler, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph,
03:01Amy Poehler, and Molly Shannon, as well as the current SNL cast,
