00:00Viola Davis is the latest member of Hollywood to weigh in on Martin Scorsese's
00:04comments about Marvel. The actress was asked for her opinion on the matter after the
00:09media frenzy surrounding Scorsese earlier this month when he called Marvel films
00:13not cinema and went on to compare them to theme perks. His comments were met with
00:18some raised eyebrows from people like Samuel L. Jackson and Guardians of the Galaxy
00:22director James Gunn, but support from others like Godfather director Francis Ford
00:26Coppola, who chimed in on the matter, commenting,
00:35And now when Davis, who starred in the DC Comics film Suicide Squad and is reprising her
00:39role in the upcoming sequel, was asked for her opinion on the debate, the actress seemed
00:43to defend the superhero genre, saying she does in fact like Marvel as well as DC Comics
00:48movies. Davis went on to explain that what she loves about superhero films is their
00:52ability to capture and expand the imagination, saying,
00:56If I did not have my imagination, I would still be poor Viola living in Central Falls,
01:00Rhode Island, who is not considered attractive. She continued noting,
01:03Art lives in that world of imagination. It's a playground there. It's God's playground.
01:08It's not up to anyone to say what deserves to be there and what doesn't deserve to be
01:12there. It's anything that you want to be in that place can live there. The actress did,
01:16however, clarify that she loved Scorsese's films as well before adding,
01:20I think he was voicing his opinion. I think it's valid. Everyone has a place and opinion,
01:24but I like a good Marvel movie.
