00:00And tonight we begin with this Fox News alert. At this hour, we are about to learn even more
00:04about the horrific terror attack in Australia. A press conference, as you can see there,
00:10will soon be underway. We'll take you there live. And as we speak, a manhunt is underway for the
00:16Brown University shooter who remains at large tonight after murdering two and injuring nine
00:22during a rampage inside of the school's engineering and physics building. Now,
00:27tonight we have breaking new details about the suspect, including new images released by the
00:32FBI. And also tonight, this is what globalized the Antifada looks like. Innocent people murdered
00:39in cold blood on multiple continents because of radical Islamic terrorism. The world and many
00:47right here in the USA have clearly returned to a pre 9-11 mindset. And that is the wrong mindset to
00:55have my monologue on this very topic that is coming up. Also, we'll bring you the very latest
01:00out of Australia, where 15 innocent people were killed by terrorists at a Hanukkah event at Bondi
01:07Beach. We'll have an important update from Syria, where two U.S. soldiers were murdered by ISIS.
01:14By any measure, it has been a horrible weekend. Plus, news from Europe, where Christmas markets
01:20are now bolstered with heavy, heavy security after an Islamic terror attack in Germany was prevented.
01:27And now France reportedly paring down dramatically their famous New Year's Eve celebration in Paris
01:33in order to avoid a terror attack in light of, again, the rise of Islamic radicalism and extremism
01:41in that country. But we do begin right here in our country, the USA, where the search is now on for
01:47the Brown University shooter. Now somehow was able to, you know, fled the scene after this deadly attack.
01:54We do have the very latest from Providence, Rhode Island. C.B. Cotton is there with the update and
01:59details. C.B.
02:02Hey, Sean. Well, the manhunt is growing more intense. The FBI releasing those new surveillance images of the
02:09person of interest. Right now, this person is described as a man. Around five...
02:14We're asking everyone in Rhode Island and beyond to review the new images of the suspect, share them
02:20on social media, and come forward if you have any information.
02:25Police say a 9-millimeter gun was used in the tragedy, but that weapon has not yet been recovered.
02:31Today, officers went door to door asking neighbors to check their home surveillance cameras
02:36for any clue that could break this case open. FBI agents also kicked up snow and looked through
02:42bushes trying to find and collect items that could hold evidence. City leaders have admitted they have
02:48no idea at this point whether the shooter has left the area. But despite this, they still feel
02:55enhanced police patrols are the best way to keep people safe at this moment. Sean, back over to you.
03:02All right, C.B., we appreciate that report. And my monologue is only moments away, but we begin with
03:07the full report from Sydney, Australia. Fifteen innocent Aussies were murdered at a Hanukkah celebration at
03:14the country's famous Bondi beach by a pair of radical Islamic terrorists. Viewer warning what you are
03:21about to see. These are disturbing scenes of violence. And by the way, we could show you a full 20 minutes
03:28worth of it. Take a look.
03:34They are just having a good fight.
03:36They are just having a good fight.
03:39They are just having a good fight.
03:41They are just having a good fight.
03:42I mean, is that the...
03:43Right. I hate it behind that.
03:46Is that the guy? Is that the shooter?
03:50Yeah.
03:51Yeah.
03:52Yeah.
03:54Yeah.
03:56Yeah.
04:00Get inside.
04:03Oh.
04:04Oh my God.
04:09Oh my God.
04:13Attack from behind. He got in, got that gun offline, got him behind the neck, stripped him of that gun.
04:20He was, it was almost like he trained his whole life. An amazing act of heroism.
04:25One of the many terrorists, more innocent people would likely be dead today.
04:29All right. Here now with the full report from Sydney Sky News, Australia's Peter Stefanovic is with us.
04:36Peter, what's the latest there? I see a lot of people in the background.
04:39Yeah, Sean, but before I, good to be with you, by the way, before I refer to that though,
04:46I just got off the phone with the lawyer, the immigration lawyer from the hero of the day that you just referred to there.
04:53Ahmed Al Ahmed is his name.
04:55And right now he's in hospital.
04:57He's in a stable condition, but he's got five gunshot wounds to his left arm.
05:01It's still very heavily bandaged as you would expect.
05:05And one of the bullets is still lodged in his shoulder.
05:07So I just spoke to his lawyer and he told me the story of why he was down there.
05:13He was down there to get a Sunday afternoon coffee with a friend as those gunshots started ringing out on Bondi Beach.
05:21He saw the older gunman, the 50 year old man, remember it's a father and son duo.
05:27He saw the 50 year old man start stalking a crowd where there are a group of Jewish people who are hiding from the gunshots and the 50 year old was was motioning towards them.
05:38And that's when Ahmed Al Ahmed realized what was going on.
05:42He crept up behind the car and then tackled the terrorist, tackled the 50 year old to the ground, took his gun off him and then pointed at him.
05:51I mean, as you mentioned, it was a remarkable display of of selfless bravery and no doubt, absolutely no doubt saved lives.
06:02So getting back to the picture where we are, I'll just provide some context.
06:06So we are at Bondi Pavilion and this has really become a focal point for this grief stricken community.
06:12So on the other side of this pavilion and it's a community hall where people usually gather, the crime scene is on the other side.
06:20So so that's the Bondi Park, but it's still very much a crime scene.
06:24So folks aren't allowed there. This is where people are gathering.
06:28This is where people are coming to pay their respects, their writing messages, their leaving flowers, their holding hands, their hugging each other.
06:37And it's helping this grief stricken community come to terms with what's happened, even though there's so many answers to the questions that haven't arrived yet and might not arrive for some time.
06:50My ear dramatically. I lost them.
06:54I think we lost Peter Stefanik in Australia.
07:00I want to go back and re-rack for you this one brave hero.
07:05I've been training in situational self-defense. Watch.
07:09He grabs his neck, takes the gun offline, simultaneously strips the gun.
07:15It was almost and I read today that he did not have any situational self-defense training.
07:20That is that is almost textbook perfect.
07:23And and he still got shot right after this. Watch.
07:26He comes up. His right arm goes around the neck.
07:29The left arm gets the gun offline.
07:32He's able to then strip the gun from the assailant and then step back, turn it on him.
07:40Textbook almost perfect, putting himself really in harm's way at a level that is is is just, you know, so remarkable and did a phenomenal job.
07:51And then he got shot and we just got an update on his condition.
07:53If we can get Peter Stefanik back, we will do so and get you a live report.
07:57As you can see on the other side of your screen, we are awaiting an update on the Bondi Beach terror attack.
08:04And when that happens, we'll bring it to you alive.
08:07We do continue to pray for all of the victims, all of their families tonight.
08:12Everyone needs to take a very close look at all of these events tonight on multiple continents.
08:19And we need to reflect on what is happening here.
08:22It is very clear that the United States and the world have returned to a pre 9 11 mindset.
08:29Let's go back to 9 11 01, 2,977 Americans killed that day.
08:34Many more killed from 9 11 related illness.
08:37That is very real.
08:39Now, if you go back to the 9 11 commission report, they did conclude the following radical Islamists were at war with the United States.
08:47They list all the examples that led up to 9 11 and we were not at war with them.
08:52We let our guard down tonight.
08:55That admonition appears to be all but forgotten.
08:58Radical Islamists, they are at war with Western civilization on multiple continents as we are reporting.
09:04And sadly, as we all know too well, what happened here in Sydney is not an isolated incident.
09:12Here is the cold, hard truth that a lot of people do not want to say.
09:19This is all the predictable result of radical Islamists year after year, decade after decade.
09:26We see the same thing.
09:27No matter the country, no matter the laws, no matter the local population, generosity.
09:33If you import radical Islamists with their open borders policies, if you have no vetting to see if they have radical associations, if you embrace liberal immigration policies or in the case of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, wide open borders, terrorism will almost inevitably follow.
09:54How many times have I said on this program, not a matter of if it is when we will be the victim of another terrorist attack.
10:01Innocent people will die.
10:02Innocent people will die.
10:03Innocent people will die.
10:04They will have blood on their hands, but people don't have to die.
10:08It's the most preventable national security disaster, the four years of Biden-Harris in our country's history.
10:15In Germany, a recent terror attack at a Christmas market, thankfully, was thwarted after multiple similar attacks in previous years.
10:23Now, Christmas markets across Europe, all across Europe, they have had open borders, very liberalized immigration policies.
10:33They have now all been fortified with armed guards, reinforced infrastructure, anti-vehicle ramming installations instead of, you know, Christmas lights and big crowds and fun and singing and caroling and other critical security measures take its place.
10:49They're turning joyful Christmas markets into forts. Why?
10:53Because of their radical Islamists that they're totally canceling their in-person New Year's Eve bash that draws millions every year, all because of the threat of terrorism and the rise of violent extremism that they have allowed to enter their country unvetted.
11:10And don't for one second think that we in this country are immune from that risk.
11:16We don't even know half of who Biden-Harris-Mayorkas led into this country.
11:22According to the National Counterterrorism Center, as testified in Congress last week, as a matter of fact, there are 18,000 known suspected terrorists that are currently living right now in the United States.
11:35What do you think they're doing? I would argue they're probably plotting and planning and scheming an attack on our homeland.
11:42And after four years of Biden open borders, that number probably doesn't even scratch the surface.
11:48How do you calculate those that, you know, the gotaways that we don't even know exist, supposedly?
11:54And that's not all. According to the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard.
11:59Again, last week, she reported at least 2,000 so-called Afghan refugees that Biden let into the country.
12:072,000 of those have terrorism ties. And now the risk profile around the world is even worse.
12:13Since the 2023 October 7th attacks, anti-Semitism, it has exploded.
12:20It has gone unchecked around the world. It has gone unchecked in the halls of Congress.
12:25It has gone unchecked on college campuses. Radical anti-Semites have used Israel as an excuse to openly hate Jews and call for, quote, global antifada.
12:36Sound familiar? Or globalized the antifada. In fact, just two days after Jewish people were brutally attacked and abducted by Hamas.
12:45This is October 9th, 2023. Radical Islamists in Australia took to the streets outside of the famous Sydney Opera.
12:54Hardly turned a blind eye to this horrific, unacceptable behavior and continued to welcome hardline Islamists into their country.
13:03As Miranda Devine eloquently put it in the New York Post today, Australia allowed Jewish hatred to fester with cowardly appeasement and foolish immigration decisions.
13:15Now, just days after one of the worst terror attacks in Australia's history, the country's prime minister allowed a lot of this to happen is inexplicably more worried about right wing extremism.
13:28Really? Take a look. The director general of Asia has warned about a range of threats, be it anti-Semitism, the rise of right wing extremist groups as well.
13:43And we continue to work closely with our security agencies. This is insane.
13:49This is insane. In other words, nothing in Australia is going to change while he is their leader.
13:56And the immigration policies, they will stay the same, but it will probably be even harder for law abiding citizens in Australia to protect themselves with the firearm.
14:07And there's strict firearm laws there. My message to Australia, my message to Western Europe, my message to our fellow countrymen here in our country, wake up.
14:19Radical Islamists, they are still at war with our very way of life.
14:25ISIS continues to lash out. Two of our brave soldiers ambushed and murdered in Syria.
14:32Thankfully, President Trump, somebody understands radical Islamism. You know, he's taken swift action to fight back.
14:38Now, we saw this in his last term. He took out Soleimani, Baghdadi and associates obliterated ISIS from the air.
14:46He dropped the mother of all bombs on Afghanistan. What do they all have in common? Oh, radical Islamists.
14:52This year he took the boldest action to eliminate a nuclear armed Iran, especially with their radicalism.
14:59Far too many Americans. Well, we're going to go to this press conference. It's in Sydney.
15:03Let's take it live and we'll continue on the other side.
15:14OK, appreciate you all being here. I'm joined, of course, with the prime minister, Commissioner Lanyon, Commissioner Barrett,
15:21the minister for mental health, Rose Jackson, the chief psychiatrist and the minister for police.
15:26Obviously, we'll give an update on the latest in relation to the investigation and related matters.
15:34I want to make it clear after speaking with the prime minister and the national cabinet, as well as the New South Wales cabinet,
15:41that our response to this horrifying tragedy must be comprehensive and has begun already.
15:49Our approach to this terrible crime in New South Wales is multifaceted,
15:54but I want to make it clear that our efforts to firstly work with the New South Wales police on counter-terrorism efforts continue.
16:02Secondly, fighting anti-Semitism in our community, which will not be done in a week or a month,
16:08but it's a long-term, important project for the government of New South Wales,
16:12working with civic leaders and the people of this state.
16:15Thirdly, gun law reform news, some of the rabbis who gave some incredible, incredible, heartfelt messages
16:25to the New South Wales community about coming together, showing love to one another,
16:30and getting through this through healing.
16:32And I thought that they were incredibly important messages right now in New South Wales,
16:37messages that we all need to hear.
16:39I'm very grateful for their intervention.
16:42I want to speak a little bit about blood donations too.
16:47I'm very happy to report that there has been 50,000 appointments to give blood in New South Wales,
16:53which I understand is a five-fold increase.
16:55Say to the people of New South Wales, don't give up.
16:58If you haven't got an appointment, if you can't get in immediately, we require your blood.
17:03Be a blood donor in New South Wales.
17:05To put this in perspective, for somebody in trauma,
17:08they may need 100 individual donations to save their life.
17:13So this is an urgent priority.
17:15Don't give up if you're at the end of the line.
17:17Make an appointment.
17:18Do a wonderful bit of civic and public duty.
17:22I'm also here to report that small business help will be forthcoming in the next 24 hours
17:28or will announce a program in the next 24 hours for small businesses in the Bondi area.
17:33We know there's huge disruption associated with this huge police investigation.
17:38There's been an impact on the local community.
17:41And part of our job after this investigation moves on is to ensure that we lift back up the Bondi community
17:48and we give people a place to come together and to return to a semblance of normal life.
17:54I want to make it clear none of the shopkeepers, none of them have complained about this at all.
17:59But we want to have their back as they open their doors in the coming days.
18:03There's lots to say.
18:05I just want to thank the public in particular, the Jewish community and interfaith leaders
18:10for their warm support in the Government's decision to put a menorah on the New South Wales Opera House
18:16to celebrate the second day of Hanukkah.
18:20This has been a tragic event, tragic event for the Jewish community of New South Wales and Australia.
18:25But we're determined to meet it head on with a program and a set of reforms
18:32to ensure that we do everything we possibly can to ensure that it's not repeated.
18:36I'm going to pass over to the Prime Minister and then Commissioner Lange.
18:40Yeah, thanks very much, Chris.
18:43My message to Jewish Australians is that we stand with you as a nation.
18:49We embrace you at what is a terrible time.
18:53These anti-Semitic terrorist attacks will not be successful with their objective,
19:00which is to divide us as a nation.
19:03We will continue to come together as a nation and to embrace each other.
19:09I want to thank the health professionals, the doctors, nurses and staff at St George Hospital
19:14for providing support for him.
19:17Sunday's tragedy will have, of course, an immediate and lasting impact on many Australians.
19:25But the Jewish community here in Sydney and nationally, first responders and people in Bondi and Sydney,
19:32the impact will be particularly acute.
19:35The Australian Government has made significant investments in mental health support,
19:40including expanding headspace and the creation of Medicare mental health centres.
19:45And I encourage all Australians affected by this tragedy to consider accessing the mental health support,
19:52including through Beyond Blue on 1300 224636,
19:58Lifeline on 13 1114,
20:02Kids Helpline on 1800 551800.
20:07Headspace for children and young people and Medicare mental health centres are, of course, available to support people affected by this tragedy.
20:15Yesterday, I convened National Cabinet, where National Cabinet again spoke about the scourge of anti-Semitism
20:25and the commitment to stamp it out.
20:28We also agreed that Premier Minns and Premier Cook, as the incoming Chair of the Council of Australian Federation,
20:36would work together to strengthen Australia's gun laws.
20:41The very nature of our gun laws means that they are only as strong as the weakest link,
20:48which is why we wanted to make sure that they followed Premier Minns' lead in committing to strengthening the gun laws that were, of course, created in the wake of the Port Arthur tragedy some 30 years ago.
21:02To give credit to the Howard Government of that time and the bipartisan nature in which it was adopted.
21:09The consideration that will take place includes limiting the number of guns an individual can own,
21:16the type of guns that are legal, whether gun ownership should require Australian citizenship
21:21and accelerating work on the National Firearms Register.
21:25This is an agreement that we reached through the National Cabinet at the end of 2023.
21:31We have provided over $160 million to do that, accelerate that.
21:37We will continue to engage this afternoon.
21:42I will have further meetings, another meeting of the National Security Committee, further meetings this afternoon.
21:48My Government is absolutely committed to working with New South Wales as well as working with community organisations,
21:58particularly Jewish community organisations at this time.
22:02I will call upon Commissioner Barrett to make some comments before we go to questions.
22:08Commissioner Lenin first.
22:11Thanks Prime Minister, I will start first.
22:13I would just like to give an update.
22:16Our two parallel investigations are ongoing.
22:18We have a critical incident investigation which investigates the role of police in the matter
22:24and certainly in terms of the death of the 50-year-old male and the injury to the 24-year-old male.
22:29Whilst that is continuing, we have a joint counter-terrorism operation running at the same time
22:34and I welcome my fellow Commissioner, Commissioner Barrett here from the AFP to talk about that this morning.
22:40There is still a crime scene in place in Campbell Parade and down around Bondi Beach.
22:44I anticipate that will stay in place until tomorrow afternoon where it will be released to the public.
22:50We continue with forensic and ballistic examinations.
22:53I have made it really clear in previous conferences that this will be a thorough investigation.
22:59I apologise for the disruptions to pedestrians and traffic while that crime scene is in place
23:04but I am sure all of the community understands the importance of investigating this abhorrent matter.
23:10The Community Reception Centre has been open and activated at the Intercontinental Hotel at Coogee.
23:18That will provide health support to people who require it, mental health support,
23:22but also allows us to speak to those who are witnesses to this incident and treat them sensitively.
23:28The Public Information and Inquiry Centre is operating.
23:32That number is 1800 227 228.
23:37It has been really important to give our investigators in the joint counter-terrorism space time to investigate this matter
23:43before releasing too much information.
23:46There has been reports in the news about our two offenders travelling to the Philippines last month.
23:51I can confirm that they did travel to the Philippines.
23:55The reasons why they went to the Philippines and the purpose of that and where they went when they were there
24:01is under investigation at the moment.
24:04I also confirm that the vehicle which is registered to the younger male contained IEDs,
24:11but I will also confirm that it contained two homemade ISIS flags.
24:16We continue to work through the motive of this tragedy and will continue to do so.
24:22And I think it is really important that our investigators continue to be given time to do that.
24:26This is a very complex investigation and important that we do it thoroughly.
24:32Operation Shelter ramped up yesterday.
24:36We have static patrols or static guards at a range of locations around the eastern suburbs,
24:42particularly Jewish places of worship and other important locations to the Jewish community.
24:47In addition to that we have mobile patrols.
24:50I want to make it very clear to the Jewish community, as we did to their leaders yesterday,
24:55that the New South Wales Police stands right beside you.
24:58We are here to keep you safe.
25:00I want the community to feel safe and be able to go around their way of life.
25:05New South Wales Police will maintain a significant response in Operation Shelter
25:11to ensure that the community can go about their normal way of life.
25:15I would like to correct a record.
25:18I have been indicating that Sajid Akram, the 50-year-old male,
25:24has held a firearms licence since 2015.
25:29Mr Akram applied for that licence on 8 October 2015
25:34and it was recommended that it be issued in November 2015.
25:39I am advised that he did not get a photo taken as required by that licence
25:43and the application lapsed in 2016.
25:47A second Category AB licence was applied for Mr Akram in 2020.
25:54Blader.
25:56Good afternoon.
25:57Last night with Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke, I had the chance to lay a wreath at Bondi Beach
26:07after immediately returning from an overseas work matter.
26:10Between the time of this attack and until I landed back in Australia, I have had regular contact with the Prime Minister,
26:17with Minister Burke, with New South Wales Police Commissioner Lanyon and with the AFP's Counter Terrorism
26:23and Special Investigations Command as well as senior Jewish leaders.
26:27These are my first public comments on the terrorist attack since I have returned to Australia.
26:34And I want to describe this attack in my own words so there is no confusion and no ambiguity about the AFP's position.
26:42This was a barbaric attack against Australian Jewish Australians.
26:48On Sunday, Jewish Australians were hunted down in broad daylight at an iconic Australian beach.
26:55The suspected murderers, callous in how they allegedly coordinated their attack, appear to have had no regard for the age or ableness of their victims.
27:05It appears the alleged killers were interested only in a quest for a death tally.
27:11Like October 7, 2023, we will not forget how that shocking attack forced Jews around the world to relive modern day terror
27:20that should have been consigned to the history books decades ago.
27:24In Australia, the AFP will never forget the date of December 14 and what it means for a community that deserves to live in peace and harmony.
27:33It is understandable and right that the community wants answers.
27:38And it is appropriate that the AFP and New South Wales Police provide this information,
27:43not only to provide answers to a community that is in shock and grieving,
27:48but also to protect how we live together safely in multicultural Australia,
27:54including calling out misinformation that could fuel retribution-type incidents.
28:00Because of these factors, we will provide information that does not impact on our investigation,
28:06noting that one alleged offender remains in hospital and is facing significant charges.
28:12Early indications point to a terrorist attack inspired by Islamic State,
28:18allegedly committed by a father and son.
28:21There is no evidence to suggest other individuals were involved in this attack.
28:26However, we caution that this could change given it is early in our investigation.
28:32Alleged evidence has provided investigators with a swathe of information
28:37that has enabled them to make this initial to review the significant material seized during search warrants.
28:44And we will not provide further details of that material today for obvious reasons.
28:49The AFP and New South Wales Police have a responsibility to keep the community safe.
28:55And I want to thank Commissioner Lanyon for his steel-light leadership during this time
29:00and also acknowledge the brave men and women of New South Wales Police
29:05who have showed courage, amazing courage, in the face of cowards.
29:11Now we understand words and information are important for context and for comfort.
29:16However, we are very much focused on action, including conducting a thorough investigation.
29:22This investigation will be highly visible, precise and it will operate around the clock.
29:29The New South Wales Joint Counterterrorism Team investigation
29:32will leverage all unique powers, capabilities and international networks.
29:38Commissioners, where and with whom did the Akrams carry out their militant training in the Philippines
29:44and when did the Australian authorities first have intelligence about that training?
29:50I think we have been fairly clear that the reason that the Akrams travelled to the Philippines,
29:54where they went, is unknown at this stage and subject to the investigation.
