00:00All right, hi people, it's Chase here and I'm here to do unboxings for you guys today of
00:05something special and unexpected, the Kamen Rider Dragonite Japanese DVD releases. I think there's
00:13only like one other, maybe a couple, at most unboxings of these things. So basically, if you
00:20don't know, back in 2008, Adnis Entertainment licensed Kamen Rider Ryuki and decided to adapt
00:33it into an American tokusatsu adaptation along the lines of Power Rangers. This had been attempted
00:41back in the 90s with Saban adapting Kamen Rider Black RX and also licensing footage from, I think,
00:48a couple of the 90s movies to use in it and spliced it in really poorly. And that show
00:56bit the dust. You may remember the Kamen Rider Black RX suit with the character, I think Dex
01:04is his name, appearing in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. That show failed spectacularly because
01:10it was so bad. And as well, Shinomori Crow, apparently the people there are so ashamed of it, they
01:17don't want it released anywhere. So yeah, so I'm assuming they're withholding the license
01:23to that show from being ever released again. So yeah, and I don't blame them from what I
01:29know of the show. So yeah. But Dragonite was the second attempt to have an American adaptation
01:35of Kamen Rider in the West. And yeah, it aired on CW4 Kids back in, from 2000, late 2008 to
01:45late 2009, I think. Um, and yeah, it did not take off over here in the West, unfortunately.
01:57Uh, from, although I think it did okay in terms of ratings and whatever. And the people making the
02:03show really liked it, or liked what they were making. And even the folks at 4Kids that
02:09controlled the block liked the show and they kept it going for as long as they could. Um,
02:14but the last couple of episodes did not air on US TV specifically because, um, mainly from
02:21what I've read, uh, just that's how scheduling worked with 4Kids on CW. They, um, kept shows
02:28going until, like, uh, December, um, of each year. And or started new shows in December of
02:37each year. It's weird. But yeah. Um, you may remember also the Kamen Rider Ryuki Blu-ray
02:44I did an unboxing of a couple years ago when that came out through Shout Factory. Um, the
02:50reason why Dragonite doesn't have a US DVD release is apparently, from what I understand, um, licensing
02:58issues, I think, with the people at, uh, Adnes Entertainment. Adnes Entertainment is, I guess,
03:02defunct. But there are people that worked there that, like, are causing it not to be licensed
03:10and everything. But yeah. So the show, and it's really weird with that, um, the show has
03:17had DVD releases in other countries, mainly Japan and then, uh, Germany and a few other places,
03:24I believe. Although Germany stopped after two volumes, um, of, I believe, the first 10
03:32episodes. But Japan really liked it. So they released these two DVD sets. Um, so yeah.
03:38Actually not. I think they released, like, volumes of, like, one or two discs. I think up
03:43to 10 volumes. So probably just one disc each. And then they collected them in these two bigger
03:47volumes. So yeah. And I bought these from Mandarake because I had a, an, an email alert
03:55thing set up for whenever one of the Mandarakes in Japan got, um, stock of them. So yeah. These
04:03are Region 2 DVDs because, well, Japan. Um, but yeah. Um, and the cool thing is they have
04:12the English audio. They do have the Japanese dub on them. For some reason, those subtitles,
04:16I don't understand that. Um, at the very least, subtitles for the English version, which I
04:21imagine would probably just be mostly the same script as the dub. But yeah, it's, it's
04:27really, really odd. I can understand, um, not including subtitles for the, for the deaf
04:34and hearing impaired when the audio is only the language that you, that the majority of
04:40your country speaks. But I, I just don't understand why you wouldn't include subtitles for the English
04:47version. It's really weird. But yeah. But Toei's gonna Toei. So yeah. But yeah. So here
04:55we go. We got the front of this here. I believe I used most of these, uh, pictures of the characters
05:03on the individual volumes and then collected them on here. I could be wrong though. Just
05:08from what I've seen of the individual volumes, you got the Kamen Rider Dragon Knight logo, which
05:12something I find interesting is the fact that it's the Kamen Rider Ryuki logo just translated
05:18into English. I believe Dragon Knight is a, uh, translation of Ryuki. You can see it's the
05:25same background dragon. It's a very similar font to the Japanese, very similar colors as well.
05:32This is more of an orange versus red, but yeah. Um, so they usually, they basically just use the
05:38same PNG of the dragon behind the text. Yeah. And this is DVD box one. I'm assuming that's
05:44translated into Japanese for that. DVD video, Toei video sale only. It's very interesting when we
05:50have that. So yeah. So then we have the spine here. You got, uh, Dragon Knight and Onyx. I don't know.
05:59I haven't actually, I've seen the first episode of the show, but I have not watched past that. I did
06:04watch a retrospective and I rewatched it recently, but I can't remember. The Void Knight? I can't,
06:09I can't remember. Um, but yeah. And you have all the characters here on the front, like I said,
06:15in front of the city, which I think is supposed to be the mirror world city. Yeah. So yeah.
06:22That's fine. You have the logo of these two right here and you have Kit Taylor, main character. Well,
06:29one of the main characters, but yeah, DVD box. I think that's Toei's logo. And then the back,
06:35which very interesting. I'm assuming this is just a synopsis and maybe some catch or taglines for the
06:40show or quotes from the show, but written in Japanese. Yeah. And then you have the disc and
06:47episode lists on the back that lists the Japanese titles of the episodes, which I just assume are
06:52translations of the, um, the U S titles or the English titles. Then you have some screenshots from
06:57the episodes and, you know, this is 2009 Shinomori Productions Inc. That's the company that mainly
07:05controls the, uh, Kamen Rider stuff and produces the shows with Toei. So yeah. Uh, Adnis Entertainment Co.
07:13and everything. So yeah. So this was originally 29,000 yen. Damn. Um, oh, this I think is with,
07:24um, tax. So yeah. Color 10.6. I don't know what that means. Maybe that's gigabytes. Um,
07:35no, that wouldn't make sense. Uh, 464 minutes. Uh, so 69 sites. It was produced in widescreen. So
07:42it was Ryuki. So yeah. So they just matched the, uh, aspect ratio of the American footage to the
07:48Japanese footage and it's region two. So yeah. So inside you got the discs. This is a big five disc
07:57case. They didn't really need to use this specific case. I don't know why they did.
08:02Cause there were like thinner, uh, five disc, uh, DVD cases that they could have used.
08:08So yeah. So then we have this little booklet sort of, it's more of a pamphlet that is the,
08:15uh, disc and episode lists that have the, uh, plot synopses for every episode, as well as the
08:23Japanese and the American names or Japanese and English versions of the American, of the names.
08:29You have the, uh, I think writer and director of each episode or maybe it's writer and director.
08:36I'm not sure which order it is, but yeah, we have Steve, Steve Wang, uh, involved in Michael
08:42Wang involved in this because they were the showrunners and main producers. So yeah. So
08:50then there's a disc thing, like warning, just don't scratch the disc and everything. Then
08:56we have an insert for Toei DVD and Blu-ray 2010, uh, four to six, which I just, I think just
09:02means like, was it like April to June. So yeah. So this is what was coming out in 2010,
09:08an advertisement for the Kamen Rider double and decade movie that was coming out in theaters,
09:15I think, or just Blu-ray. Um, so yeah, so these are just other things that were hitting home video
09:21at the time. Um, so yeah, you have a Kamen Rider decade movie, director's cover version, uh, a
09:30Kamen Rider double special event thing, uh, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, uh, Ghost Sager. Um,
09:40this is volume one of the Blu-rays. I think I don't, I think this is probably the entire series
09:45because it says 6,090 yen. Then a thing for, I think a Shinkenger movie. Yeah. It says V cinema.
09:53So I'm assuming this is a direct to DVD or Blu-ray movie. And then, um, I think for Kamen Rider
10:00Dragon Knight, um, so yeah. Oh, that may be just, maybe that's the last volume because that is the
10:07same price as this for each individual volume, I think is what that is. So 5,000. Okay. That would
10:12make more sense. Yeah. For the pricing. Cause, uh, yeah. And you have, uh, DVD volume one set of,
10:21uh, Flashman. Then, uh, Wind Specter volume one on DVD, which I have the Blu-ray set for that from
10:29Discotech. That's funny. Then, uh, DVD collection of Sailor Moon, the 90s anime, I believe. Um,
10:37whatever this is, Best Selection of the Box, Volume 10. I guess just another DVD set for something.
10:44Mutant Girls Squad, whatever that is. I guess the DVD release of that. And then back to that.
10:51So just very interesting how these can be cap, time capsules of what was coming out at the time.
10:57So yeah, so you have Disc 1, Disc 2, and you can see that all these are the pictures that they use
11:02on the front, I believe. Just split up. Disc 3, Disc 4, Disc 5. And then to incentivize people to get the,
11:10uh, big box set releases, they included a 6th disc. When I said 5 discs, or disc case, I meant 6.
11:18Because I forgot about the bonus disc. Basically, um, this has, uh, this first disc
11:23has, um, interviews with, um, the Japanese dub cast, and a presentation that happened back in 2010,
11:33I think, when they dubbed and aired the show. So yeah. As I said, there are no subtitles on this,
11:42and why would there be, um, at least English subtitles? So, yeah. I don't know if, if, like,
11:51Shout Factory were to license the show, I don't know if they'd have the Japanese bonus features
11:56on them, because I don't even know if they'd feature the Japanese dub, unless if someone,
11:59or anyone, like, told them about it. But yeah. Considering it's an English-language show,
12:05I don't think they'd bother. But yeah, so here we go with box 2, final. Um, so you have all the
12:12characters on here in different poses. And then two, uh, knights right there, or, yeah,
12:19two common writers right there again. Assuming this is, uh, Dragon Knight's, like, final form.
12:25So yeah. So here we go, with the spine, and then the back. Same exact setup as the, uh, box set one
12:36release, just different pictures and different text. So, yeah. So here we go. Uh,
12:46472 minutes instead of, what is this? 464. So, yeah. Almost, or, eight more minutes. So, yeah.
12:58469, region 2. I think this means, like, this probably means, like, dual-layer DVDs. But, yeah.
13:04Um, that would make sense. So, yeah. So this has the don't-scratch-discs, basically. And we got the
13:19pamphlet for the episode and disc lists and everything. It is funny that they don't list
13:27what's on the, uh, bonus discs. But, yeah. So, yeah. Disc 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. It is weird that the font
13:38here makes this look like a 6. It is very similar to the 6 on the 6th disc. It's an 10 and the bonus disc
13:48for box two. Basically, what is on that is a more long-form, um, like, discussion video with the
13:59Japanese dub voice cast. So, yeah. So, that is basically it for this. I basically got these,
14:09because as far as I can tell, this show will have a very long time, maybe, before any U.S. distributor
14:19can license and release this over here. I don't know if that counts for streaming, because streaming
14:24wasn't a thing back in 2008 or 9, um, as far as I can tell. Um, maybe it was in its infancy with,
14:33like, Netflix and all that. Um, but, uh, who knows, really? I'm kind of surprised Toei doesn't
14:40throw it up on their Toei Tokusatsu YouTube channel and, like, region lock it outside of Japan,
14:45because, like, yeah. It's just very interesting that they didn't do that. But, yeah. So, this is
14:53pretty, or, pretty much it. So, yeah. And, again, I did do an unboxing of the Yuki Blu-ray. If you
15:01didn't, if you haven't seen that video yet. So, yeah. So, yeah. Really not much else to say. So,
15:08leave a subscription on my shit. Subscribe if you want, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
