To local news now and the Territory's year 12 high achievers have been celebrated at parliament house today, as students received their final grades and university entry scores. Among the top 20 performers, are students with ambitions to study interstate, and return to the Territory as teachers.

00:00This morning, Year 12 students around the NT logged on to check their ATAR scores,
00:08this group discovering they're ranked among the country's brightest.
00:12The Territory's highest achiever with an ATAR of 99.8 committing to further study in medicine.

00:32From a class of 50 at a small school in Darwin's rural area,
00:36Tenzin says he'll pursue a teaching career.

00:43So I've applied for their Bachelor in Science into their Masters of Teaching.
00:47So hopefully finish that and then come back here to teach high school maths and science.
00:54Eleven of the Northern Territory's highest performing students
00:57come from the Essington School this year,
00:59with seven more from public schools in the Darwin area.
01:03Lan Chun from St Phillips College was the highest performing student in Alice Springs
01:08with an ATAR of 99.75.
01:11Another top achiever aiming for a teaching career
01:14had a message for those who didn't get the marks they'd hoped for.
01:18By the time you figure out what you really want to do with your life,
01:20it won't matter because there's so many other ways that you can get into university
01:25or you can be able to do that job.
01:27I just think don't stress about it.
