00:00:00All right, now, ladies and gentlemen, we want to welcome a man from Dundrum County Down.
00:00:23Let's have a welcome for Patrick Keelty.
00:00:25Patrick!
00:00:30Good evening and welcome to our late, late Christmas special.
00:00:46It's our last show before Santa does his magic and I, yeah, and I find out if he brings me
00:00:53the pair of gloves I've asked for to cover up these.
00:00:56I tell you what, sir, if you think Grinch fur is hard to get off your hands, whoo, been
00:01:05using a Brillo pad going to the toilet all week.
00:01:08Before we start, folks, can I just say to everyone who watched our toy show last week and to give
00:01:13so generously to our toy show appeal, it has raised over, so good, it has raised over 4.6 million
00:01:26euros so far.
00:01:27A huge, huge thank you.
00:01:30And tonight we're keeping this Christmas spirit going, folks, with a festive line-up that keeps
00:01:37on giving from the mummy to the wheel, the Oscar-winning Hollywood legend, Brendan Fraser is in the house!
00:01:44Now, we're never sure how this will go, but he's always on the naughty list.
00:01:51Comedian Jason Byrne is here!
00:01:53And we're going to be quick-stepping into Christmas with Dancing with the Stars new head judge Otimabusee is going to be joining us.
00:02:12But I'm so looking forward to this.
00:02:17Before all that, my first guest tonight is Offaly's favourite son, who just happens to be an Olympian, a major champion and the man who in September became a Ryder Cup legend forever when he did this.
00:02:35He did it.
00:02:36The 2019 Open champion stands tall and delivers for the European team who have retained the Ryder Cup.
00:02:48From Clara to the Clara Jug and Beyond, come and have together for Shane Larry!
00:02:54Welcome to the show, fella.
00:03:13Thank you very much.
00:03:13Two weeks in a row last week, you weren't here, but you were here.
00:03:16You were surprising little Declan, our golf buddy on the toy show.
00:03:21You were going to bring him, what a great prize, Inside the Ropes at the Irish Open next year.
00:03:27That was so good.
00:03:32And a flag from the Ryder Cup, which I'm assuming you stole this from the Green Keepers, did you?
00:03:38Yeah, we each got ten each, so I only have ten, so I'm very particular about who I give them to, so Declan's one of the lucky few that got that.
00:03:47Do you have any of those?
00:03:49I have none for you, Patrick.
00:03:50None of those left, okay, just on the naughty list.
00:03:52That's the end of that.
00:03:54Now, look, Declan loved that putt of yours on the 18th at Bethpage Black, as we all did.
00:03:59What was going through your head as you were walking up that fairway and you knew you had a chance?
00:04:07Yeah, it's funny, it's funny when you're in situations like that, you actually become quite aware of what's going on and obviously I was very nervous, but I said to my caddy walking down the fairway, I said, I have the opportunity to do something very, very cool here, very special and, you know, basically let's go and do it.
00:04:27And, you know, thankfully I went up and hit a great shot in and then I managed the role to put in somehow, somehow managed the role to put in because it's like, honestly, it's the most pressure I've ever felt.
00:04:37It was, yeah, I was trying to explain to somebody who was asking me about it earlier on today and it's hard to really explain because...
00:04:44Well, look, have another go, look, we'll play it again, here we go, so tell us what's going on.
00:04:49Yeah, so I was shaking at this stage and then, yeah, I don't know, properly shaking, yeah, yeah, and then I, and then that is just...
00:04:57To be fair, you were shaking afterwards with a few...
00:04:59I actually think, I think if I had known I was going to hold it, I would have done something cooler than that.
00:05:06Yeah, so no, it was, but it was, no, it was a memory that I'll have forever, it was very special, yeah.
00:05:10What were the celebrations like?
00:05:12I saw you going through the tunnel at one point and you had the felt-tip pen and, yeah, you tidied up the scoreboard for,
00:05:18how many Europe had won?
00:05:20Yeah, they had 15 down, so I changed that to 16 that we've won and, yeah, we had a good night that night.
00:05:26The bus journey back was probably the highlight of the whole thing, you know, it took us 40 minutes to get back to the hotel
00:05:31and it was, honestly, if you can picture like an under 12 or under 14 bus of, you know, Gaelic football young lads
00:05:39after winning a county final or something, that's what it was like.
00:05:42It was, yeah, the best weeks of our lives, those Ryder Cups.
00:05:46Well, look, I mean, you've been celebrating ever since, the whole of Ireland's been celebrating ever since as well.
00:05:50Look, this is the type of stuff that was going on here.
00:05:53This is you.
00:05:54This is an ad for a little race course.
00:05:58I'm not even sure that was photoshopped.
00:06:00I mean, I'm just trying to work out winning.
00:06:01I definitely can't get that high.
00:06:02Now, the Ryder Cup, of course, it made a lot of headlines for all the wrong reasons as well.
00:06:10Yeah.
00:06:11How bad was that abuse for yourself and Rory out there?
00:06:15Because when you're watching it on TV, you kind of hear you guys talking about it afterwards, but you don't really hear a lot of it.
00:06:22So, how bad was that?
00:06:24Yeah, it was pretty bad.
00:06:26It was, like, I think we were very ready for what was going to happen.
00:06:30I think we were as ready as we could be, but until you're in the situation, you don't actually realize what it's going to be like.
00:06:35And being out there and, yeah, some of the stuff that was said was not very nice, but I think Rory and I definitely used it as fuel and it motivated us to go ahead and win.
00:06:48And I said it, like, after that week, I said, I don't think it helped the Americans much at all.
00:06:52I think it actually, it was harder for them to play in that environment than it probably was for us at times.
00:06:57So, yeah, tried to use it as much to our advantage as we could, but, yeah, like, it was quite difficult.
00:07:03Like, I played the first two days with Rory and I noticed on Sunday when I was playing my match, I didn't get as much abuse, which was quite nice.
00:07:11But, yeah, he had to deal with a lot of stuff over the couple of days.
00:07:14I mean, you guys are pretty tight, aren't you?
00:07:16You've been tight for a wee while now.
00:07:18Yeah, we've become very close over the last number of years and, you know, our wives are really good friends.
00:07:24Our kids are similar age as they hang out together.
00:07:26We live very close to each other in Florida and, like, we do hang out together.
00:07:31We play a lot of golf together and we, you know, sit around in the evenings, go to each other's houses for barbecues and stuff.
00:07:36It's just nice.
00:07:37It's a nice, nice relationship to have.
00:07:39I count myself fortunate to be, you know, good friends with one of the greatest players that's ever played the game.
00:07:44And I get to watch him do his thing and I think it really drives me on to be, you know, a better golfer.
00:07:50Says the Open winner himself.
00:07:52I mean, come on, let's, come on, you know, you know what I mean.
00:08:01I mean, you're hardly playing off double figures yourself.
00:08:05The, you know, so you guys, you know, you hang out together, you play together, you've actually won together.
00:08:09You played in, was it the Zurich?
00:08:11Zurich Classic in New Orleans, yeah.
00:08:12Yeah, and they celebrated together as well.
00:08:16This is, talk us through what's good on here.
00:08:18This is when the lads won.
00:08:19I think I know it's coming here.
00:08:20Here it is, yeah.
00:08:20There you go.
00:08:23Yeah, I wasn't singing.
00:08:24Did you notice that?
00:08:29Yeah.
00:08:29I think I was as surprised as everyone else.
00:08:34He was doing what he was doing.
00:08:35Yeah.
00:08:35I think that was a don't stop believing or in Rory's case, don't start him singing.
00:08:40I think that was a.
00:08:41Yeah, he's not a great singer.
00:08:43He's a better golfer than he is singer.
00:08:44What I love about that clip, I love about that clip is that you're in the background and there's a chance you could have took the mic and you could just see the face going, I'm just going to leave it.
00:08:52Yeah.
00:08:52I'm just going to leave it.
00:08:53Yeah, I couldn't believe what was happening to be honest.
00:08:55We just won and obviously we were very happy and we get up and,
00:08:59stage and there was just like we had to toast all the sponsors and there was like a lot of people there actually in the tent and then the band just asked Rory what his favorite song was or what his karaoke song was and he told them and then he started singing and I just was, yeah, I was, it was, it was interesting.
00:09:17But what was lovely about that, I think, was that, you know, the fans actually, you know, they love that.
00:09:22They love the fact to see you guys out there, you know, wearing your heart on your sleeve and, you know, at the Ryder Cup when things aren't.
00:09:29When you're getting the abuse, a wee bit of bite back, when things are going well, it's, it's showing you're human.
00:09:34Yeah, like, and I always say that, like we, like every professional, you know, golfer, sports person, you know, we just happen to be good, you know, pretty good at what we do.
00:09:44But we're, you know, we're just human beings at the end of the day and we're normal people and, you know, I try and live as normal a life as I can outside of the sport and, yeah, I think stuff like that shows it.
00:09:54You're a proud Offaly man.
00:09:55I think Rory could probably have done with a few singing lessons from your granny whenever he managed to bring the claret jug back to Offaly.
00:10:02See, this is, this is Shane's granny doing her stuff.
00:10:06In the little town of Clara where the bros and the water bled.
00:10:15Come on, Sianna.
00:10:21That was, that was one of the best days ever, like bringing the claret jug down to Clara and have my granny there who's still flying fit.
00:10:32Like she's, she's 88 now and she's gone strong and she's just been on a week, week away with all her friends.
00:10:38So she's delighted that, she'd be delighted that she got a mention here.
00:10:42I'm surprised she's not sitting here beside me actually.
00:10:45Please welcome Shane's granny.
00:10:48But yeah, no, she'd be delighted she's sitting at home with Clara.
00:10:51So hey, granny.
00:10:52Talk to me, talk to me about that week up in Portrush and winning it on Irish soil.
00:10:58I mean, compared to the Ryder Cup, is that, that's still the top memory?
00:11:03Ah, yeah, it's hard to, it's hard to separate them.
00:11:07You know, they're, they're two totally different things.
00:11:09And the Ryder Cup is like so enjoyable because you get to do it with all your friends.
00:11:14And it's like more of a kind of, you know, you know, you have one goal in mind and that's to win.
00:11:20Whereas you're, you're going up to the open in Portrush and you're sort of thinking,
00:11:23I'd like to win a good performance here and I'd like to give myself a chance to win.
00:11:26You know, do I think I'm going to win?
00:11:28I probably, probably not, but I'm going to do as best I can.
00:11:31Like, you know, there's 155 other great golfers there.
00:11:34And to go to Portrush and win by six shots and do it how I did it, you know,
00:11:41the first time the Open had been in Ireland however many years.
00:11:44And for me to go and win that, like individually, I definitely won't top that for the rest of my career.
00:11:49But the Ryder Cup still holds like something in my, inside of me that I love.
00:11:56And like Adair Manor in two years time is something that like even now I think about a lot.
00:12:02It's going to be bouncing, isn't it?
00:12:02It's going to be, it's going to be amazing.
00:12:04And yeah, we're going to, I'm sure we're going to show them some proper good Irish hospitality.
00:12:09And try and retain the trophy, yeah.
00:12:18Yeah, good lad.
00:12:20You know, one of the things at the Open, you know, was seeing your dad, you know, just on that green.
00:12:26And I know he's going to be inducted, Brendan's going to be inducted into the awfully GA Hall of Fame.
00:12:30I mean, how cool is it to now be, you know, as proud as your dad's, you know, sport achievements as he is of yours?
00:12:37Yeah, it's great.
00:12:37Look, he lives for GA, like he really does.
00:12:40Like, you know, and even like this year he was selector for our local club, Clara.
00:12:45So he's, you know, he's still going strong on the sidelines.
00:12:49Probably, you know, saying too much to referees and giving out and doing all of the above.
00:12:54But yeah, and we got promoted back to senior this year as well.
00:12:58So he played a part in that.
00:12:59So yeah, but it's, his love for GA is number one.
00:13:02He obviously loves traveling the world and watching me play golf.
00:13:05But, you know, he will, he will actually not come to a tournament because there will be a match on.
00:13:10So yeah.
00:13:12He's got his priorities right now, hasn't he?
00:13:13He has his priorities in a certain place.
00:13:15I'm not sure they're right.
00:13:15Okay.
00:13:16They're there.
00:13:17Okay, if you had to make a choice, Ryder Cup win or Offaly winning another All-Ireland?
00:13:22I'd say there's probably a better chance of me, us winning the next Ryder Cup, but I'd give him anything to see Offaly walk the steps of Crow Park again, honestly.
00:13:36Yeah.
00:13:36We were chatting there before the show about your two girls and, you know, how much do they spur you on whenever you're out there?
00:13:50Yeah.
00:13:50Look, it's what I do for now, really, to be honest.
00:13:53And, like, I've got a great life.
00:13:58I love what I do.
00:13:59I'm very, very fortunate to have the life I have.
00:14:00But being away from them makes it harder.
00:14:02So, you know, when I am away, I work as hard as I can and try as hard as I can to make them proud.
00:14:07And it's funny, over the last few weeks, like, my eight-year-old, Iris, she's played a decent amount of golf over the last year or so.
00:14:17And then Ivy, our four-year-old, just asked me to go out last week.
00:14:21So she came out for the first time last week.
00:14:23Oh, so good.
00:14:24Yeah, just having them out on the golf course and seeing them grow is cool.
00:14:28And I actually, we only came back from Florida yesterday, so they hadn't seen the toy show.
00:14:32So I left them there at home.
00:14:34We left home this evening and they were watching the toy show as we were leaving.
00:14:37Well, I mean, that means they'll still be up at 1 o'clock tonight, whenever you're getting home.
00:14:42You mentioned Iris there.
00:14:44I think she's coming up pretty hard on the rails here.
00:14:47We've got a clip.
00:14:48This is the Par 3 competition at the Masters.
00:14:51You know, this is just what it's all about.
00:14:53She tells everyone in her class that she's going to play the Masters.
00:14:56So she's like, she's obsessing.
00:14:57Well, I mean, she could play the Masters.
00:14:58Check this out.
00:14:59Here we go.
00:15:00Yeah, she was so excited when this went down.
00:15:01Full house here at Augusta.
00:15:03Look at that.
00:15:04Better putting it out than me.
00:15:06She's coming for you.
00:15:13I really, really hope she's watching at home.
00:15:15She'll be so happy if she's watching at home.
00:15:17So, yeah.
00:15:19Well, look, it is so, so good.
00:15:21I know you're a really, really busy man.
00:15:22What you did last week for Declan, I mean, just completely blew him away.
00:15:27And we were so, so grateful.
00:15:29And for you to come here this week and have a chat with me, I know you have a lot of other
00:15:33things to be doing.
00:15:34And it means the world to me.
00:15:35No, no, no.
00:15:36Thanks for having me.
00:15:36Shane Larry.
00:15:36Cheers.
00:15:37Cheers.
00:15:37Thank you very much.
00:15:41OK.
00:15:42Shane is staying with us as it's a faithful county takeover tonight.
00:15:55As my next guest is a chart-busting singer-songwriter who hails from Offaly via Bedford and whose
00:16:02third album this year went straight to the top of the UK charts.
00:16:05He's here with his future festive classic, It Can't Be Christmas.
00:16:08Please, deck the halls for Mr. Tom Grennan.
00:16:11APPLAUSE
00:16:18I know.
00:16:19I know.
00:16:19I know.
00:16:19I know.
00:16:20Have I gone stupid, maybe?
00:16:35Have I gone mad?
00:16:38Someone save me.
00:16:40There's a man in the sky dropping presents tonight.
00:16:44Can't be.
00:16:45It's too soon for that.
00:16:47Send me a Cupid, baby.
00:16:51I'll make sure it's fast.
00:16:54Someone save me.
00:16:56Can't do this time of year.
00:16:58No, without you, my dear.
00:17:00When you're gone, all turns to black.
00:17:03It can't be Christmas.
00:17:05Christmas.
00:17:06Christmas.
00:17:07Hey, I must be dreaming.
00:17:09Christmas.
00:17:11I see the snow.
00:17:12Nobody's home.
00:17:14Say it ain't true.
00:17:15Say it ain't true.
00:17:16It can't be Christmas.
00:17:21Christmas.
00:17:22I ain't got that feeling.
00:17:24I hear the bells all by myself.
00:17:30Say it ain't true.
00:17:32Control.
00:17:33It can't be Christmas without you, mom.
00:17:39Wherever you might be, come home.
00:17:42Whole roads might be icy, dry, slow.
00:17:46Cause I need you in one piece with four farms who hold me.
00:17:50Forever is under the tree.
00:17:53It can't be Christmas.
00:17:54Christmas.
00:17:55I ain't got that dreaming.
00:17:57I hear the snow.
00:17:58Nobody's home.
00:17:59Say it ain't true.
00:18:00Happy Christmas.
00:18:01I ain't got that dream.
00:18:03I hear the snow.
00:18:06Nobody's home.
00:18:07Say it ain't true.
00:18:08Happy Christmas.
00:18:09Christmas.
00:18:10I ain't got that dream.
00:18:11I ain't got that dream.
00:18:12Christmas
00:18:13I ain't got
00:18:16that feeling
00:18:17I hear
00:18:20the bells all by
00:18:22myself, say it
00:18:24ain't true
00:18:25Ain't got me Christmas
00:18:28without you, say you're on
00:18:30your way, baby
00:18:32On a train
00:18:34or on a plane, baby
00:18:36Take a trip
00:18:38or set a slave, baby
00:18:40Whatever you got
00:18:42the door
00:18:43It can't be Christmas
00:18:45I must be
00:18:48dreaming
00:18:49I see the snow
00:18:53Nobody's home
00:18:55Say it ain't true
00:18:58It can't be Christmas
00:19:02I ain't got that feeling
00:19:05I hear the bells
00:19:10all by myself
00:19:11Say it ain't true
00:19:13Oh
00:19:14It can't be Christmas
00:19:16without you
00:19:18Merry Christmas
00:19:19How are you?
00:19:32Good to see you, man
00:19:33Welcome to the show, fella
00:19:35Good to see you
00:19:36Good to see you
00:19:36There we go
00:19:37Tom Grennan
00:19:38Awfully men
00:19:45They're like buses
00:19:46You don't see one for ages
00:19:47And then two come along
00:19:48There you go
00:19:49Shane and I were just chatting there
00:19:50While you were doing your stuff
00:19:51I mean, your dad is just a few miles down the road
00:19:54From
00:19:54Yeah, he went to school with Shane's mum
00:19:56Did you know that?
00:19:57No
00:19:57Yeah
00:19:58There we go
00:19:58Things could have been very different
00:20:00Could have been
00:20:03Could have been
00:20:04But yeah
00:20:05We're probably cousins somewhere
00:20:08Yeah
00:20:09But I mean
00:20:10You're proud of the awfully heritage, aren't you?
00:20:12Oh, big time, yeah
00:20:13Yeah
00:20:13Big time
00:20:14So, Martin's your dad
00:20:16And he moved over to England
00:20:17How long ago?
00:20:19I'm 30 now
00:20:20He probably moved when he
00:20:21When
00:20:22In the early 90s
00:20:25Yeah
00:20:25Yeah
00:20:26And you get back a fair wee bit
00:20:28And you see the cousins
00:20:29Always, yeah
00:20:30It was
00:20:31Christmases
00:20:33It was summers
00:20:33It was every holiday, basically
00:20:35We'd be back in Ballycomber
00:20:37Seeing Granny
00:20:37And seeing all my cousins
00:20:39And yeah
00:20:40Got to shout out Gavin's pub
00:20:41You know Gavin's pub
00:20:42Gavin's pub, yeah
00:20:43I got told to give it out
00:20:44Shout out to them
00:20:45Did you actually, yeah
00:20:45But yeah
00:20:46We'd all be there, really
00:20:48Yeah
00:20:49Okay, so Gavin's pub
00:20:50Apparently we're all going
00:20:51So that's
00:20:52We're all going
00:20:52That's good news for everybody
00:20:54It would be pretty full of all this kind of
00:20:56Yeah, it would
00:20:57It would
00:20:58They thought a shout out
00:20:59Was actually good advertised
00:21:00Until the free pints
00:21:00They're going to have to give us that, yeah
00:21:02So look
00:21:03You're a golfer yourself
00:21:04Well
00:21:05I try to be
00:21:06Yeah
00:21:06I try to be, yeah
00:21:07Your handicap's pretty decent
00:21:09What have you
00:21:09What do you play off?
00:21:1012
00:21:10However
00:21:11However
00:21:12Yeah
00:21:13I know you've got the clear
00:21:14Okay
00:21:14We do
00:21:15You were there watching as well
00:21:18Okay
00:21:19So this is
00:21:20Oh God
00:21:21I remember this
00:21:21Yeah
00:21:21So this is Tom
00:21:24Very
00:21:25Really decent golfer
00:21:26You're playing with
00:21:27Shane's mate
00:21:28Tommy Fleetwood
00:21:28Yeah
00:21:29First tee
00:21:30Yeah
00:21:30Apart from
00:21:31Apart from the open
00:21:33This tournament went
00:21:34Where it's probably
00:21:35The biggest one
00:21:36Biggest one in Europe
00:21:36It's our biggest event
00:21:37Yeah
00:21:37And this is Tom
00:21:40Off the first tee
00:21:41Here we go
00:21:42It is raining to be fair
00:21:44It is raining to be fair
00:21:44Tom
00:21:45Right
00:21:46Right
00:21:47So we'll have another wee look at this
00:21:53Tell us
00:21:53Tell us
00:21:54Where Tom was going wrong here
00:21:56Shane
00:21:57Apart from
00:21:58Apart from the trousers
00:21:59I was just about to say
00:22:00I was just about to say
00:22:01The outfit's not a great start
00:22:03Oh that is a ledge outfit
00:22:04Come on
00:22:04That's good
00:22:06Um
00:22:06No I don't know
00:22:07To be honest
00:22:08I'm not
00:22:08I'm not that
00:22:09Listen I had one hour sleep
00:22:11A little quick from the top probably
00:22:11A little quick from the top
00:22:12Well you know
00:22:13You were there watching
00:22:15I had to give it something
00:22:16Yeah
00:22:16But I mean
00:22:18You know
00:22:18You've played in Soccer Aid
00:22:19Yeah yeah
00:22:20You know
00:22:20You've played the golf
00:22:21You're a competitive man
00:22:22I am
00:22:22You don't mind putting yourself
00:22:23Under a wee bit of pressure
00:22:24No
00:22:24Last Christmas
00:22:26When you were chasing
00:22:27Christmas number one
00:22:28You decided to
00:22:29Give yourself a bit of motivation
00:22:31What was that?
00:22:31I went for a tattoo
00:22:32Saying Christmas number one
00:22:352024
00:22:36Would be
00:22:37Dot dot dot
00:22:38Ended up being
00:22:39Wham
00:22:39So
00:22:41I didn't finish the tattoo off
00:22:44I need to
00:22:44There it is
00:22:46So it was a two part tattoo
00:22:47So you got this before Christmas
00:22:48You hoped that your name
00:22:49Was going to be on the end of it
00:22:50I love that Shane was actually
00:22:51Checking out the arms
00:22:52I was going to see if you've got to fill it in
00:22:53No no
00:22:54It's still there
00:22:55It's still there
00:22:56Yeah so this is where it is
00:22:57It's actually on
00:22:58On the leg
00:22:59Is that right?
00:23:00Yeah
00:23:00And uh
00:23:01How did
00:23:02How did
00:23:02There it is
00:23:03There it is yeah
00:23:04Nah listen
00:23:05I thought it would be me
00:23:06And I thought I'd always look down at that
00:23:08And go
00:23:08I did it in 2024
00:23:10However
00:23:11I'm still waiting
00:23:12I'm still waiting
00:23:14It's all good
00:23:15You were prepared to lose your shirt on this
00:23:17Yep
00:23:17This is another little snap
00:23:19That we have
00:23:19Off you
00:23:20During your campaign
00:23:21To be Christmas number one
00:23:23What's this one?
00:23:24This is
00:23:24Oh
00:23:25Yes
00:23:25That's what's going on there
00:23:27Yes
00:23:28There you go
00:23:29See
00:23:30Someone appreciates it
00:23:32Do you know what I mean?
00:23:33The dog doesn't look too impressed
00:23:34The dog wasn't happy
00:23:35The dog wasn't that impressed
00:23:37No
00:23:37He's looking at
00:23:38I actually
00:23:40I go back
00:23:41I hope my daughter's not sitting at home
00:23:42Watching this
00:23:42Yeah
00:23:43It's taking a turn Shane
00:23:51I'm sorry
00:23:52Now I didn't realise this
00:23:56But you're actually the voice for an advert
00:24:00That Shane you have absolutely no need for
00:24:02Whatsoever
00:24:04If I said to the audience
00:24:06Gillette
00:24:07Gillette Samantha
00:24:09It's iconic
00:24:11Is that you?
00:24:12That's me
00:24:13Yeah
00:24:13Did you not know that?
00:24:14This is
00:24:14Really?
00:24:15Yeah
00:24:15That's top
00:24:16So when did that happen?
00:24:19It was during the Euros
00:24:21And it became a little bit of like a
00:24:23Bit of an anthem actually
00:24:25Yeah
00:24:26For the English squad
00:24:28Yeah
00:24:28And around the world
00:24:29As we can see
00:24:31But no
00:24:32They just asked me to do it
00:24:34I never thought it would be such a massive thing
00:24:36And now like
00:24:37I've done so much
00:24:38With my career
00:24:39And I'm really really proud of
00:24:40And I'm proud of the Gillette thing
00:24:42But when I'm walking down the street
00:24:43People go
00:24:44Oh my god
00:24:45I'm like
00:24:46Yeah
00:24:46It's me
00:24:47And they're like
00:24:47The Gillette guy
00:24:49Yeah
00:24:50The Gillette guy
00:24:52But I mean that keeps
00:24:53The current account
00:24:54Ticking over
00:24:55Listen
00:24:55That is paid
00:24:56For a few things
00:24:58Do you know what I mean?
00:24:59Yeah
00:24:59Yeah
00:24:59So we're talking about your dad Martin
00:25:02He has been over
00:25:03In England for over 30 years
00:25:06But it's fair to say
00:25:08That he hasn't lost
00:25:09His Irish ways
00:25:11No
00:25:11He always says to me
00:25:12I said to him
00:25:14Would you ever
00:25:15Like have lost the accent
00:25:17Because a lot of people do
00:25:18When they move over
00:25:19And he said
00:25:19I'd never have an English accent
00:25:21In my life
00:25:21Yeah
00:25:22And I say to him
00:25:24Fair play
00:25:24Yeah
00:25:25But he's very proud of you
00:25:27And we've got a little clip
00:25:28This is a clip of you
00:25:29Playing him
00:25:30A new song
00:25:31Oh right
00:25:32And from
00:25:33From your TikTok
00:25:34Right
00:25:35And if anybody's in any doubt
00:25:37That Martin's dad is Irish
00:25:38You won't be in any doubt
00:25:40After this clip
00:25:40Just hold on now Tom
00:25:43What?
00:25:44I have a feeling
00:25:44That something like this
00:25:46Was on Tic Tac before
00:25:47Yeah
00:25:48You're going to try
00:25:48And break my f***ing heart Tom
00:25:49Listening to a f***ing song again
00:25:52I won't know what to do Tom
00:25:54F***ing
00:25:55F***ing
00:25:56F***ing
00:25:56And everything
00:25:57So
00:25:58F***ing
00:25:59Play it
00:26:00Yeah
00:26:00And I won't get emotional
00:26:02If I can
00:26:03F***ing all right now isn't it
00:26:05Yeah
00:26:05F***ing wonderful
00:26:07But what I love about that
00:26:13Is
00:26:14See
00:26:14He's pride
00:26:16He's so so proud of you
00:26:17Oh he is
00:26:18He's the most proudest dad ever
00:26:19And
00:26:20He just loves
00:26:21That I'm living my dream
00:26:23And
00:26:24And doing what I can
00:26:25Just to get out in the world
00:26:26And
00:26:27I feel like
00:26:28My dad
00:26:28He came over to England
00:26:30With
00:26:31With nothing in his pocket
00:26:32And he's built
00:26:32A family
00:26:33And he just
00:26:34Yeah like I say
00:26:35He's really buzzing
00:26:36For me to
00:26:36To go out
00:26:37And be travelling the world
00:26:38With what I do
00:26:39It's amazing
00:26:40I tell you what though
00:26:47He loves the fame though
00:26:48He loves
00:26:49Oh he loves it mate
00:26:50You should see him at a show
00:26:51He's there
00:26:52Doing autographs
00:26:53Taking photos
00:26:54He loves it
00:26:56All the good stuff
00:26:56Yeah
00:26:57You're a dad now yourself
00:26:58I am a dad now myself
00:27:00How's that treating you
00:27:01Oh I'm loving it
00:27:03Completely changed
00:27:04They say obviously
00:27:05It changes your world
00:27:06And it does
00:27:07You know
00:27:07Her name's Dottie
00:27:09And she's just a bundle of joy
00:27:11And
00:27:11Obviously I've been away quite a lot
00:27:13She was born in March
00:27:14And then I had to kind of go away
00:27:16About two weeks after
00:27:18After she was born
00:27:19So I've missed quite a bit
00:27:22But
00:27:22You know
00:27:23Knowing that I'm going home
00:27:25To my wife

00:28:44We know playing golf with Tommy Fleetwood
00:28:48Didn't really work out
00:28:49So we thought you might like to join
00:28:51The awfully dream team tonight
00:28:52And play golf with Shane
00:28:53Who would like to see that
00:28:54We'd like to see

00:29:03Named Declan
00:29:04And he introduced us to something
00:29:05Called pitch and potty
00:29:07So lads
00:29:08Walk this way

00:29:15Come on down
00:29:18So look Tom
00:29:22You can play with me

00:29:28To play with
00:29:29There's only one man
00:29:30Really Shane
00:29:31For the job
00:29:31Would you please welcome

00:30:08Against you and Shane
00:30:09So so we let
00:30:11The bad golfer go first
00:30:14And then the half decent golfer
00:30:16And then you guys
00:30:18How does that sound
00:30:19Yeah
00:30:19What sort of week have you had
00:30:21Has it been exciting
00:30:21Yeah

00:30:39Is she still okay
00:30:40Yeah

00:35:53Welcome back to the Late Late Show
00:35:55My next guest is an Academy Award winner
00:35:58Who has lit up the silver screen
00:35:59In some of the most memorable Hollywood blockbusters
00:36:02Of the past 30 years
00:36:03From Georgia the Jungle
00:36:04To the Mummy Trilogy
00:36:06To leaving the Oscars
00:36:08In Raptures
00:36:09With his incredible performance in The Wheel
00:36:10He has always been a guaranteed crowd pleaser
00:36:13And that is before I also tell you
00:36:15He's Irish
00:36:16Would you please welcome Brendan Fraser
00:36:18Well welcome back
00:36:39Welcome to Ireland should we say welcome home Brendan
00:36:43Yes you should
00:36:44Yeah
00:36:44I'm glad to be here
00:36:45You recently found out that you had Irish ancestry
00:36:49I do
00:36:50My family are the divine family
00:36:53You do realise you don't need to say anything more
00:36:57Right
00:36:57The whole of Ireland is going
00:36:58Would that be the divines from
00:37:00My great great grandfather
00:37:05Went across the Atlantic in a rusty boat
00:37:10At age of 11
00:37:11To escape the famine
00:37:13He landed in Pennsylvania
00:37:15Became a coal miner
00:37:16And later a candy salesman
00:37:19And you know what's interesting about it is
00:37:23In the new movie
00:37:24Your character
00:37:25Phillip
00:37:26Yeah
00:37:26His backstory
00:37:28Whenever he's telling one of the other characters
00:37:30Who he is
00:37:31I noticed that you actually
00:37:32The character said that
00:37:34He has some Irish heritage
00:37:35So that was an ad-lib line
00:37:37Well it actually worked out just great
00:37:39Because the little actress
00:37:40Who we have in our film
00:37:41Her name's Shannon Gorman
00:37:42Her mum's Japanese
00:37:44Her father is proper Irish
00:37:47His name's Victor
00:37:47And she speaks her English
00:37:50With an Irish accent
00:37:52Yes
00:37:52You've got to see this new movie
00:37:55Congratulations Brendan
00:37:57Rental family
00:37:58I was lucky enough to watch it last night
00:38:00And it's got so much heart
00:38:02And it's just life affirming
00:38:03And I laughed and I cried
00:38:06Tell us a little bit about it
00:38:07Sure
00:38:07It's a film
00:38:09About making human connection
00:38:12Proper ones
00:38:12In an age when we may find ourselves
00:38:15Feeling more and more detached
00:38:16In an increasingly synthesized
00:38:19And cynical world
00:38:21And the antidote to that
00:38:22Is really, well, empathy
00:38:23So it's set in Tokyo
00:38:26An American actor, Phillip
00:38:29Is being employed
00:38:32On and off as sometimes actor
00:38:36In Tokyo
00:38:37He found work when he arrived
00:38:40As a mascot
00:38:41For a toothpaste company
00:38:43As Mr. Clearo Brighto
00:38:45And we shot a commercial
00:38:47A Japanese commercial
00:38:48To tell the story
00:38:51And it's given him
00:38:53A great deal of automatic fame
00:38:54And, but his luck burned off
00:38:57Some seven years later
00:38:58When we meet him
00:38:59And he's approached
00:39:00By a man who gives him his card
00:39:03And says, maybe I could use you
00:39:05I own a rental family agency
00:39:06And he says, what's a rental family agency?
00:39:09Well, that's an agency
00:39:11That sells emotion
00:39:12To people who feel like
00:39:14They're missing that connection
00:39:15Of members of their own families
00:39:16And this is a business
00:39:18That has existed since the 1980s
00:39:20Some 300 of them
00:39:21Are still doing business right now
00:39:24Yeah, this is a real thing
00:39:26That happens in Japan
00:39:27Because I thought
00:39:28Wow, what a cool idea
00:39:29For a movie
00:39:30But it's a real thing
00:39:31It is indeed
00:39:32As it goes
00:39:34There is almost
00:39:37An epidemic proportion
00:39:39Of loneliness
00:39:40In a place like Tokyo
00:39:42Or any major city
00:39:43For that matter
00:39:44And there are certain
00:39:46Stigmas attached to
00:39:47Mental health issues
00:39:48In Japanese culture
00:39:50But the work around is
00:39:52To hire members of a family
00:39:54To come in
00:39:55Stand in
00:39:56As a surrogate of sorts
00:39:58Brother, sister
00:39:59You name it
00:40:00And the film itself
00:40:02Lives in the world
00:40:04Between the pretend
00:40:05And make believe
00:40:05Of a performer
00:40:06And the reality
00:40:08Of who they really are
00:40:09Who are the people
00:40:09Who employ this service
00:40:14And who are the people
00:40:14Who give it
00:40:15Well, that's where
00:40:17The magic happens
00:40:18In this film
00:40:19That's written
00:40:20Directed by Japanese
00:40:21Writer and director
00:40:23Hikari
00:40:23And she's here tonight
00:40:25It is a beautiful movie
00:40:26We have a little clip
00:40:27You are so, so good in this
00:40:28Check this out
00:40:29So, what do you think
00:40:33We do here?
00:40:35We sell emotion
00:40:36How?
00:40:37We play roles
00:40:38In clients' lives
00:40:39Parents, siblings
00:40:40Boyfriends, girlfriends
00:40:42Best friends
00:40:43And help them connect
00:40:45To what's missing
00:40:45I'm just an actor
00:40:47I don't know how to help people
00:40:48What I'm offering here
00:40:49Is a chance to play roles
00:40:51With real meaning
00:40:52What do you need me for?
00:40:54We need a talking white guy
00:40:56Now, I know Japan
00:41:07Is a place very close to your heart
00:41:08When you went there
00:41:09You didn't rent a family
00:41:10You rented something
00:41:11Slightly more unusual
00:41:12For an afternoon
00:41:13Yeah, a capybara
00:41:14Okay
00:41:15And one afternoon a hedgehog
00:41:17I stayed away from the Super Mario carts
00:41:20Those are way too dangerous for me
00:41:21Yeah
00:41:22But, yeah, you can rent
00:41:23Just about anything in Tokyo
00:41:24You can rent a grandma
00:41:26If you want to
00:41:26You know, whenever you have been in so many big movies
00:41:33And your career has gone the way that it's gone
00:41:35We just need to take a moment to congratulate you
00:41:38On the whale
00:41:39I mean, what a performance
00:41:42That was
00:41:44When you've been there and done it
00:41:53You know
00:41:53What does it mean
00:41:54To win an Academy Award?
00:41:56Oh, I want to be worthy of it
00:41:59I have many, many people to still thank
00:42:01Who brought me that far
00:42:02There were some incredibly talented guys
00:42:05Alongside me in that category
00:42:06Paul and Colin
00:42:09Ireland's own
00:42:11We didn't know which way
00:42:13It would go when the envelope was opened
00:42:15And I was probably more astonished
00:42:17Than anyone else to hear my name called
00:42:19And I'm the lucky guy
00:42:20Who got to thank
00:42:21Everyone from the world's biggest stage
00:42:24For that time
00:42:24And we were the lucky guys
00:42:26Who got to see you in it
00:42:26I mean, what a transformation
00:42:28Talk to us about
00:42:29How much work went into that
00:42:33Well, it was clearly a lot of transformational makeup
00:42:37That's Charlie
00:42:37As you can see
00:42:39He's a large man
00:42:40He is bound to the couch in his home
00:42:45His tiny apartment
00:42:46And when we meet him
00:42:48It's the last days of his
00:42:50Well, his time on earth
00:42:51And he knows it
00:42:52But to complete his own journey
00:42:56He wants to reconnect with his daughter
00:42:58If that is possible
00:42:59Charlie's an English teacher by trade
00:43:01He teaches online
00:43:03Because he feels ashamed
00:43:04To show himself on a webcam
00:43:07Until a key moment in the movie
00:43:08But to create Charlie
00:43:11It required elaborate costuming
00:43:15About four or five hours
00:43:19Of prosthetic makeup
00:43:21That was 3D printed by Adrian Moreau
00:43:23Who won an Oscar for this look that year
00:43:26I actually did our toy show last week
00:43:28And I had to dress up as the Grinch
00:43:29And even just to do that
00:43:30It was like three hours in the chair
00:43:32So you were doing that
00:43:33What, four or five hours
00:43:34Every day for
00:43:35Oh, probably 30-something days
00:43:37Yeah
00:43:38Wow
00:43:38Yeah
00:43:38Wow
00:43:39I loved every day
00:43:40How did you do?
00:43:43Did you like get it off my face?
00:43:44Did you feel like
00:43:45Yeah, it's that weird thing, isn't it?
00:43:48Where, you know, it's
00:43:49You kind of think it's getting ready
00:43:50But then it takes another two hours
00:43:52To get the whole thing off again, you know
00:43:53Did you do stop motion camera work
00:43:55To show how long
00:43:56And the build-up of it?
00:43:57Yeah, no, we did a bit of that
00:43:59And this is Ireland
00:44:00So nobody cared
00:44:01That's how it works
00:44:04Before we let you go
00:44:06There's some good news
00:44:09We believe Rick O'Connell
00:44:10Is coming back
00:44:11In the mummy
00:44:13I hope to have
00:44:20Happy confirmational news soon
00:44:22So please be patient
00:44:25Along with me
00:44:26For just a bit longer
00:44:27Before I open my mouth
00:44:28And say it's the wrong thing
00:44:30But my lips are sealed
00:44:33Okay, this is good news
00:44:36We'll take that
00:44:36We'll take that
00:44:37As a yes
00:44:38So you're in time
00:44:39For a couple of days
00:44:41I'm on a plane tomorrow
00:44:43You're on a plane tomorrow?
00:44:44Yes
00:44:44Okay, so we only got one night
00:44:45Okay, this is great
00:44:46It's
00:44:47We're also going to be seeing you
00:44:50With Kerry Condon
00:44:51Pretty soon
00:44:51Yes
00:44:52A film
00:44:53By writer-director
00:44:55Anthony Maris
00:44:56Australian
00:44:57Kerry
00:44:57Is
00:44:58Working with me
00:45:00In the film
00:45:01Pressure
00:45:01About the weekend
00:45:02Before the landing
00:45:03On Normandy Beach
00:45:04On June 4th, 1944
00:45:11And there was a weatherstorm
00:45:14As history lets us know
00:45:15That weekend
00:45:16And it was no small matter
00:45:20To push the date back
00:45:23Because of the bad weather
00:45:24These troops wouldn't have
00:45:25Been able to land
00:45:26So Andrew Scott's character
00:45:29Who is a biologist
00:45:30And a meteorologist
00:45:34Has to swim upstream
00:45:35And speak to the joint chiefs
00:45:37Of staff
00:45:37That weekend
00:45:39Before the amphibious assault
00:45:40Of Operation Overlord
00:45:41On the Normandy beaches
00:45:42And he has to convince them
00:45:45That the weather is real
00:45:46And if you don't listen to me
00:45:48There will be a calamity
00:45:50But there is a window
00:45:51Of 11 hours
00:45:52And I played
00:45:54General Eisenhower
00:45:55And these are the conversations
00:45:58That happened that weekend
00:45:59That make one of the biggest
00:46:00Historical decisions of our lives
00:46:01And we can't wait to see that
00:46:03Also we can't wait to see
00:46:05Rental Family
00:46:06Rental Family will be in cinemas
00:46:07From January the 16th
00:46:09It has been a delight
00:46:11Thank you so so much
00:46:12Brendan Fraser
00:46:13Thank you
00:46:15Thank you
00:46:16Thank you
00:46:17Thank you
00:46:17Thank you
00:46:17Okay here's another chance
00:46:20For you at home
00:46:21To win this week's competition

00:47:11With the best of local ingredients
00:47:12My favourite part
00:47:14Afternoon tea
00:47:15Now where to start?
00:47:17Time to test if you're as wise
00:47:19As this owl
00:47:19Here comes the question
00:47:20Which of these much-loved

00:53:42Santa Claus is coming to town
00:53:45Santa Claus is coming to town
00:53:48Welcome back to The Liliet Show
00:53:49My next guest is Ireland's Santa Claus of Comedy
00:53:53who has been delivering laughs across the world for 30 years
00:53:56for one night only
00:53:58He's off the naughty step
00:53:59But let's be honest
00:54:00It probably won't be for long
00:54:01Would you please welcome
00:54:02Jason Byrne
00:54:04Oh wow
00:54:05Oh my god
00:54:20Yeah
00:54:20Have you recovered from the Mary Finnegan invasion?
00:54:23That's well
00:54:26My family are from Finglas
00:54:27So it's the same
00:54:29Yeah
00:54:29The same type of
00:54:30Huge family
00:54:31But fair play to her
00:54:32All those people came from that woman
00:54:34That's amazing
00:54:35Well I mean in a DNA way
00:54:37You know what I mean
00:54:38We know what you're trying to say
00:54:41Oh yeah
00:54:41Yeah
00:54:42Sorry
00:54:42So she's an amazing woman
00:54:43Yeah
00:54:44Fair play to her
00:54:44So look
00:54:45You're looking well
00:54:47Oh yeah
00:54:48Thanks very much
00:54:48Yeah
00:54:49Oh my god
00:54:49I got me hair done
00:54:50Got the gruega done
00:54:51I got me hair done
00:54:52I got the
00:54:52It's only a week now
00:54:54Yeah
00:54:54That I got the hair put in the top here
00:54:57Alright okay
00:54:57I got it taken off the back of my head
00:54:59And put in
00:55:00I did
00:55:01I know people don't believe me
00:55:02But I did
00:55:03Can you see it there
00:55:04It's just got put in there
00:55:05So the fella
00:55:06Morris put it in
00:55:07HRBR
00:55:08Black
00:55:08Down there
00:55:09In Black Rock
00:55:10Okay
00:55:10So posh implants
00:55:11Right
00:55:12Yeah
00:55:12So I got that done
00:55:14And it's mad that we
00:55:15I mean your hair
00:55:16You've always had it like this
00:55:17Haven't you
00:55:17I mean like a
00:55:18Yeah sort of grey
00:55:19And yes
00:55:20Like a
00:55:20With a boy's face
00:55:21With a boy
00:55:22You always look lovely
00:55:23With the face of an angel
00:55:24Like yourself
00:55:25Yes exactly
00:55:25So I got it
00:55:27I got it done
00:55:28But you know like
00:55:29People go
00:55:29When you get the hair done
00:55:30In Ireland
00:55:30You get the slags
00:55:31Do you know what I mean
00:55:32Yeah
00:55:32And that's
00:55:33Because some people go
00:55:34Oh I don't want to tell people
00:55:35I got it done
00:55:35Well I mean
00:55:36I'm on the late night
00:55:37Saying I got it done
00:55:37So there you go
00:55:38But the slags can be
00:55:41Why did you get it done
00:55:41Well I mean
00:55:43Basically the hair
00:55:44Was all over the camp
00:55:45You know what I mean
00:55:46Yeah
00:55:46I mean
00:55:46Me dad had loads of hair
00:55:48That's what it was
00:55:49Right
00:55:49Oh and the slag
00:55:50Oh yeah
00:55:50Can I tell you this though
00:55:51Wait
00:55:51Because I'll forget
00:55:52This is the slag
00:55:53Was that
00:55:54Jason Rock
00:55:56Messaged me
00:55:56When I got it done
00:55:57And this is real
00:55:58Right
00:55:59And he said
00:55:59He's Dickie Rock's son
00:56:01And he said
00:56:02Do you want to learn
00:56:02To be some of me dad's wigs
00:56:03Right
00:56:04That's what he said
00:56:05And I went
00:56:06What
00:56:06And he goes
00:56:07Yeah
00:56:07We've got decades of wigs
00:56:08In the wardrobe
00:56:09If you want them
00:56:09So he was slagging me
00:56:11Over that
00:56:11But my dad
00:56:12He was 81
00:56:14When he passed
00:56:15Right
00:56:15And he had a huge head of hair
00:56:16He was amazing
00:56:17But he was great
00:56:19Paddy as well
00:56:20Yeah
00:56:21Paddy born
00:56:21And so Paddy had great hair
00:56:23And he also had great teeth
00:56:24Well he did
00:56:25Even though sometimes
00:56:26The teeth weren't his own
00:56:27Well the thing
00:56:28But he had
00:56:28Well yeah
00:56:29He had
00:56:30My dad did
00:56:30He had great teeth
00:56:31All right
00:56:32But a lot of people here
00:56:34I'm looking in
00:56:35That years ago
00:56:36In the dentist
00:56:37They used to take your teeth out
00:56:38Like when you were
00:56:39Back in like the 40s
00:56:41They didn't fill them
00:56:42So my dad had dentures
00:56:43In the top
00:56:44Right
00:56:44And oh my god
00:56:45Right
00:56:45So okay
00:56:46This happened
00:56:47Actually me ma's watching
00:56:48It doesn't matter
00:56:48We'll just tell it anyway
00:56:49Right
00:56:49Go on
00:56:49So my dad had dentures
00:56:52And he used to sneeze
00:56:54Like really loud
00:56:55Right
00:56:56So a lot of people here
00:56:58Have outfills and granddads
00:56:59Like this
00:57:00When they sneeze
00:57:01When my dad sneezed
00:57:02Right
00:57:02He'd be watching the telly
00:57:03And he'd be in the room
00:57:03And he would
00:57:04He wouldn't go
00:57:05Like that
00:57:06My dad would go
00:57:07Like that
00:57:09Right
00:57:09And my mum would be all
00:57:11Going
00:57:11Jesus Christ Paddy
00:57:12And he'd go
00:57:13Well you have to get it out
00:57:14Don't you
00:57:14Right
00:57:14So my dad had a really hairy nose
00:57:17Right
00:57:17And this is what it was
00:57:19And because
00:57:20They didn't groom themselves
00:57:21In those days
00:57:22Yeah
00:57:22Not like we
00:57:23Oh not like you do
00:57:24Yeah
00:57:25So basically
00:57:27What happened was
00:57:29On this night
00:57:29We'd all moved out
00:57:31Me ma'am and dad
00:57:31Are in the house
00:57:32Right
00:57:33And on this night
00:57:35My dad was in the pub
00:57:36And he came home
00:57:38And he went into the toilet
00:57:39And me ma'am
00:57:40Heard him
00:57:41In the jacks
00:57:42He had a few pints
00:57:42And me ma'am
00:57:43Heard him
00:57:44Sneezing in the toilet
00:57:45And she heard him
00:57:47Going
00:57:47And he flushed the toilet
00:57:49At the same time
00:57:50All right
00:57:51And then
00:57:51All my mum
00:57:52Heard was
00:57:52Oh Jesus
00:57:54Right
00:57:54He had flushed
00:57:56His only pair
00:57:57Of dentures
00:57:57Down the loo
00:57:58Right
00:57:59Okay
00:58:00Right
00:58:00Now
00:58:01I didn't know this
00:58:02Right
00:58:02I went back to me house
00:58:05Right
00:58:05About three days later
00:58:06I didn't even know
00:58:07This happened
00:58:08This is a good while ago
00:58:09And me dad was sitting there
00:58:10And he's looking really weird
00:58:11On the couch
00:58:12He's kind of sitting like this
00:58:13Right
00:58:13I said
00:58:15Dad you all right
00:58:16And he goes
00:58:17Yeah good to see you son
00:58:18Good to see you
00:58:18And I said
00:58:20What's going on
00:58:22He goes
00:58:22Oh yeah no
00:58:22I'm just good to see you
00:58:23But I didn't know this
00:58:25My mum had given my dad
00:58:27Her only dentist
00:58:29Right
00:58:29Right
00:58:31Now wait
00:58:32Because
00:58:34Because he didn't have a spare pair
00:58:38And neither did she
00:58:40And the mommies would do anything
00:58:42Right
00:58:43So I'm sitting there
00:58:44And he does
00:58:45Like this
00:58:45Right
00:58:45And me mum comes into the room
00:58:47And I go
00:58:48How are you mum
00:58:49And my mum goes
00:58:50Ah
00:58:50How are you son
00:58:52It's great to see you
00:58:55And I said
00:58:57What's the story
00:58:58Because
00:58:59Your father
00:59:00Needed the teat
00:59:02For work
00:59:03And she
00:59:05She went around for a week
00:59:08With no teat
00:59:08And me dad
00:59:09Went to work
00:59:11With little children's teat
00:59:13Because
00:59:13My mum is only about
00:59:15Four foot tall
00:59:16My dad was six foot two
00:59:18With children's teat
00:59:20In his mouth
00:59:22Like trying to work in Guinnesses
00:59:23Amazing fella
00:59:25I mean
00:59:25Oh my god
00:59:26My dad was just so funny
00:59:27That was so good
00:59:28Like he did
00:59:29He said so many funny stuff
00:59:30I remember my mum going out
00:59:31Oh this is so Irish
00:59:32Right
00:59:33Me mum going out the door
00:59:34Because you remember
00:59:35Like our dads would never
00:59:36Get up to the door
00:59:38And put the coat on your mum
00:59:39My dad used to shout
00:59:40From the living room
00:59:41If me mum was at the door
00:59:42And I remember me mum
00:59:43At the door
00:59:43And me dad going
00:59:44Where are you going at now
00:59:45Right
00:59:46And me mum says
00:59:47I go to see Mr O'Neil
00:59:49He's not well in the hospital
00:59:50And me dad says
00:59:52Well don't be pissing
00:59:53And moaning over that fella
00:59:54He's trying to die
00:59:55Right
00:59:56Tell him a joke or something
00:59:58And bring him in a whisky
01:00:00Brilliant
01:00:00Yeah
01:00:01But it's great fella
01:00:02Look this is great
01:00:03You're just back
01:00:03From the UK tour
01:00:06Oh yeah
01:00:06The British
01:00:07Yeah
01:00:07There's so many
01:00:10Protestants there
01:00:11Oh my god
01:00:13But they're grey crack
01:00:14They don't know
01:00:14What the prayers of the faithful is
01:00:15No they don't
01:00:17Did I read somewhere
01:00:18That one of them
01:00:19Tried to die
01:00:20Or did die
01:00:21Or told you
01:00:22You didn't die
01:00:22Oh yeah
01:00:22Well done
01:00:23Well done
01:00:23This was in Scotland
01:00:25So it was
01:00:26Protestant Scotland
01:00:27Scottish Protestants
01:00:28Right
01:00:28Yes
01:00:28And
01:00:29Oh they're so funny
01:00:31Yeah
01:00:31This guy
01:00:32I was just
01:00:32Okay so my audience
01:00:34Are great fun
01:00:34Right
01:00:35So when I'm on stage
01:00:36My audience
01:00:36They don't heckle me
01:00:37They ask me things
01:00:38So I could be in the middle
01:00:39Of a story
01:00:40And they go
01:00:40Jason
01:00:41Right
01:00:41This guy
01:00:42Dougie
01:00:42Right
01:00:43I have six stents
01:00:44In my heart
01:00:44Right
01:00:45And I was talking
01:00:45About that on stage
01:00:46And I was just
01:00:47Back on stage
01:00:48And a guy
01:00:49Dougie goes
01:00:49Jason
01:00:50Jason
01:00:50I went
01:00:51What
01:00:51And he goes
01:00:51I died
01:00:53Right
01:00:53This Scottish guy
01:00:54Went
01:00:54What
01:00:55He goes
01:00:55Well I'm obviously
01:00:56Alive now
01:00:57But I died
01:00:58Right
01:00:58And this is Scottish humour
01:01:00It's so like the Irish
01:01:00What do you mean you died
01:01:01He says
01:01:02Well
01:01:02He says
01:01:02I was in Glasgow
01:01:04In the streets
01:01:05Right
01:01:05This is
01:01:05Oh my god
01:01:06This is brilliant
01:01:06Right
01:01:07You cannot write this stuff
01:01:08Right
01:01:08It's in Glasgow
01:01:09In the streets
01:01:09It said it was raining
01:01:10Right
01:01:11And he had a heart attack
01:01:12And he hit the deck
01:01:14Right
01:01:14And he said that
01:01:16The paramedics
01:01:17Were just across the road
01:01:18Thank god
01:01:18And they ran over to him
01:01:20Right
01:01:20But a crowd
01:01:21Had gathered around him
01:01:22Right
01:01:22Dougie's this fella's name
01:01:23Yeah
01:01:23Crowd had gathered around him
01:01:25Just to see what happened
01:01:26Because they're like the Irish
01:01:27They may not really help you
01:01:29They just want to look
01:01:30Right
01:01:30Dougie was on the ground
01:01:32Right
01:01:33Okay
01:01:33And he said
01:01:34He was like
01:01:35Basically god
01:01:35The heart was like going
01:01:36And the paramedics
01:01:38Came over
01:01:38And took out the defibrillator stuff
01:01:40Right
01:01:40And you know
01:01:41And again
01:01:42It was raining
01:01:43Remember it was raining
01:01:44It was all west
01:01:45Right
01:01:45And the paramedics said
01:01:47To the Glaswegians
01:01:48Right
01:01:48Clear
01:01:49Right
01:01:49And they were like
01:01:50We're not going anywhere
01:01:51We're watching this
01:01:52Right
01:01:52And Dougie said
01:01:54And Dougie said
01:01:54They whacked
01:01:54They whacked him
01:01:55With us
01:01:56Right
01:01:56And when Dougie
01:01:57They got him back alive
01:01:58And when he sat up
01:01:59On the path
01:02:00There was two fellas
01:02:01Unconscious beside him
01:02:02This is a real story
01:02:05They had got a shock
01:02:07From the defibrillator
01:02:09It had gone through
01:02:10It had gone through Dougie
01:02:11And ran up them
01:02:12And hit the power
01:02:13And they were on the ground
01:02:16Unconscious
01:02:17Beside him
01:02:18And I said
01:02:19Well they all right
01:02:19And he goes
01:02:20No
01:02:20They have to go to the hospital
01:02:21In the ambulance
01:02:22With Dougie
01:02:23The three of them
01:02:25The three of them
01:02:26Yeah
01:02:26I mean
01:02:27So if anybody wants
01:02:28To go and see Jason's show
01:02:30Yeah yeah
01:02:31Make me not shout
01:02:32That you've died
01:02:33No I was going to say
01:02:34Ah he's great Dougie
01:02:35Look before we let you go
01:02:36The new animation
01:02:38Tell me a wee bit about that
01:02:39Oh yes
01:02:39We've got
01:02:40We've two lots of animations
01:02:40We have storyboards
01:02:42Coming on RTE
01:02:42Which we worked with
01:02:43Sieg and Zag
01:02:44With the lads
01:02:45You know
01:02:45Double Z
01:02:46And then we have another one
01:02:48With Boulder Media
01:02:50Which is called
01:02:50The Irlands of Ireland
01:02:51Which is hopefully
01:02:52Is going to be
01:02:53Like an Irish Simpsons
01:02:54Brilliant
01:02:55Yeah
01:02:55I know
01:02:56Look at everybody
01:02:56Oh no
01:02:57That'd be good
01:02:58Wouldn't it
01:02:58Yeah
01:02:59And so
01:02:59When can we maybe
01:03:00Well
01:03:01Tomorrow
01:03:02No no no
01:03:04The 20th is
01:03:06The
01:03:06Is the
01:03:06Is the
01:03:07Is the
01:03:08Storyboards

01:03:09Next year

01:07:42Yeah

01:07:43How have you been settling
01:07:44And how's the dynamic
01:07:45With you and the other judges
01:07:47Amazing
01:07:47We've already had a dinner
01:07:49We've already discovered
01:07:50Like who's who
01:07:52Obviously Arthur
01:07:53Is like the loud
01:07:54Crazy one
01:07:54Karen is sweet
01:07:56She likes information
01:07:57And Brian and I
01:07:58We just like to go at it
01:07:59We just literally
01:08:00Just like to make fun
01:08:01Of each other
01:08:02Okay
01:08:02So that's kind of the vibe
01:08:04But what I love
01:08:04Is you've been doing
01:08:05A little bit of dancing
01:08:06Already
01:08:06This is yourself
01:08:07And Arthur
01:08:07Just busting some moves
01:08:09This is just
01:08:10Honestly
01:08:13He made that up
01:08:17That's all his
01:08:17Toreography
01:08:18And yet she found me
01:08:20In the corner
01:08:21Hiding
01:08:21And he was like
01:08:23Get up girl
01:08:24Let's dance
01:08:25There's a bit of double
01:08:26Trouble going on there
01:08:27All good news
01:08:30We're going to have a good time
01:08:30We're going to have a good time
01:08:31Yeah
01:08:31We were having a little chat
01:08:33Out the back there
01:08:34About settling into Irish life
01:08:38How different is it
01:08:40Have you picked up
01:08:40On any Irish traditions yet
01:08:42I mean it's very cold
01:08:43I don't know how you guys do it guys
01:08:45You are strong
01:08:46It's very cold
01:08:47The first thing I did
01:08:49I had a Guinness
01:08:50Nice
01:08:50That was the first thing
01:08:51Woo
01:08:51Split the G
01:08:54I'm not good at it yet
01:08:55But I think that's
01:08:56Opportunity to practice
01:08:57I think that's
01:08:58The only way to look at that
01:09:00I'll be sleeping next to the distillery
01:09:01Every week
01:09:02I've had some Tate holes
01:09:04Good
01:09:05Yes
01:09:06Laura offered them to me
01:09:08The first time
01:09:08And I said no
01:09:09And she looked at me
01:09:10With pure disgust
01:09:11In her face
01:09:12And she's like
01:09:13They are iconic
01:09:13And I was like
01:09:14I'm sorry but I'm full
01:09:15Iconic
01:09:16Have them
01:09:16So now I've had them
01:09:17And I love them
01:09:18Okay
01:09:19I'm like
01:09:19What else have I done
01:09:20More drinking
01:09:21No one wants to give me
01:09:23An Irish whiskey
01:09:23And I'm like
01:09:24I need one
01:09:25Maybe we'll have one
01:09:26After the show
01:09:26Maybe we'll have one
01:09:27After the show
01:09:27We were also talking
01:09:29About Irish people
01:09:30Being quiet
01:09:30And not really
01:09:31Wanting a chat
01:09:32How are you finding that?
01:09:34Okay
01:09:34Okay
01:09:35So
01:09:35What I've discovered
01:09:37Is Irish people
01:09:38Love to get to know you
01:09:40Really?
01:09:40Yeah
01:09:41Oh yes
01:09:42We are
01:09:42We're nosy
01:09:43Dressed up as friendly
01:09:44Oh my god
01:09:45And tell me now
01:09:47How long are you over for?
01:09:47Yes
01:09:48Brian
01:09:49Brian was like
01:09:49You just have to
01:09:50You just have to go with it
01:09:52Relax
01:09:52And now you're the new person
01:09:54Everybody wants to know
01:09:55Everything about you
01:09:56I was like
01:09:56At the same time
01:09:58It's a lot of talking
01:09:59So yeah
01:10:00That's one thing I've discovered
01:10:01Just a lot of chat
01:10:03But really nice
01:10:03I think it's just
01:10:04Genuinely people saying
01:10:05Hi
01:10:06Welcome to Ireland
01:10:07And we really want to get to know you
01:10:08Okay
01:10:09We saw that
01:10:10Obviously the moves you've got
01:10:11That's because
01:10:12You know
01:10:13You were a pro dancer
01:10:14So
01:10:14Yes
01:10:15Well what type of judge
01:10:16Do you think you're going to be
01:10:17Are you going to be a little bit easier on them
01:10:18Because you know what it's like
01:10:19To be there and do it
01:10:20Absolutely not
01:10:21No
01:10:21No
01:10:22No
01:10:22Why would I?
01:10:23No
01:10:23I think it's really important
01:10:25Because I do believe
01:10:27That shows like
01:10:28Dancing with the Stars
01:10:28It is for the people
01:10:30And people want
01:10:31What they see
01:10:33I don't think people
01:10:33At home are dumb
01:10:34They want it reflected
01:10:35And it's sometimes nice
01:10:37To just say what you see
01:10:38And just be honest with it
01:10:40So
01:10:40It might be nice
01:10:41If you're good
01:10:42And if you're not good
01:10:43It's a done so
01:10:44Okay
01:10:45That's how it's going to work
01:10:47Yeah
01:10:47Your sister of course
01:10:48Yes
01:10:49Is on Strictly in the UK
01:10:51Yes
01:10:51Will you guys be kind of
01:10:52Comparing judge notes
01:10:53How's that going to work?
01:10:54All the time
01:10:55I mean she's my sister
01:10:55She judges me
01:10:56Without me even asking
01:10:57For to be judged
01:10:58You know
01:10:59But I really love her
01:11:00And I love how her style is
01:11:02She's very positive
01:11:03And she looks for the light
01:11:05At the end of the tunnel
01:11:06And even if someone's
01:11:07Not doing well
01:11:08She somehow
01:11:09Her brain just sees
01:11:10The positives
01:11:11Which I really love
01:11:11And I'm
01:11:12Whereas you're going to
01:11:13See the truth
01:11:13Yeah
01:11:14I'm learning
01:11:15I'm like
01:11:15Oh I'm learning to say that
01:11:17And a lot of the time
01:11:18Everybody's like
01:11:19Don't say what you're thinking
01:11:20You will get cancelled
01:11:22Don't say what you're thinking
01:11:23No
01:11:23Do we want to do
01:11:24I think we do want to hear
01:11:25What you think
01:11:25So that's what we want you to do
01:11:26Yeah
01:11:27Okay well look
01:11:28Now we know what type of judge
01:11:29You're going to be
01:11:30It is time now
01:11:31To reveal
01:11:33Yes
01:11:33Some of the dancers
01:11:34You're going to be judging
01:11:35Would you please welcome
01:11:38Eurovision legend
01:11:41Niamh Kavanagh
01:11:43Olympic rower
01:11:47Philip Doyle
01:11:48Podcaster extraordinaire
01:11:51Amber Wilson
01:11:52And singing sensation
01:11:54Tulu McKay
01:11:56Good to see you
01:12:01Good to see you again
01:12:02There we go
01:12:03Good to see you
01:12:04Tulu how are you getting on
01:12:05Hop in there
01:12:07Everybody hop in
01:12:08You see
01:12:09It's all friendly
01:12:11It's all good
01:12:12It's all good at the minute Niamh
01:12:13Yes for now
01:12:14So Niamh
01:12:17Why Dancing with the Stars
01:12:18After all these years
01:12:20Yeah
01:12:20Well lots of reasons
01:12:21Obviously initially
01:12:22Geroad was very much
01:12:23A part of that decision
01:12:24You know he blackmailed me all year
01:12:26And I kind of sent him down
01:12:28Like a canary down the coal mine
01:12:30Last year
01:12:30So that was good
01:12:31And then also for years
01:12:32People have been saying to me
01:12:34I'd love to sing
01:12:35You know that's the first thing
01:12:36They kind of say to you
01:12:37And I always say
01:12:38Oh you can sing
01:12:38You just have to manage
01:12:39Your expectations
01:12:40You know maybe you're not going to be
01:12:42Pavarotti or Beyonce
01:12:43You know but so
01:12:44You just have to find your song
01:12:45And then every year
01:12:47I say to people
01:12:47I can't dance
01:12:48So
01:12:49We're about to find out
01:12:50We're about to find out
01:12:51It's all good
01:12:52For sure
01:12:52Now Philip you are no stranger
01:12:55To hard work and a bit of training
01:12:56But I didn't realise
01:12:57There was a few
01:12:58Magic mic moves
01:13:00In here
01:13:01Tell us
01:13:01Tell us what this is about
01:13:04So
01:13:05As a medical student
01:13:07We do this
01:13:08Charity fashion show
01:13:09Raises like
01:13:1070,000, 75,000 sterling a year
01:13:12Yeah
01:13:12And we bring directly
01:13:13To the
01:13:14Like our third world countries
01:13:15We go to
01:13:15Then at the end of our fourth year
01:13:16So I decided one year
01:13:18I'd give it a dab hand
01:13:20At choreographing
01:13:21It's a fashion show
01:13:22But it's a dance show
01:13:23So I choreographed this routine
01:13:25Off the back of the second
01:13:26Magic mic movie
01:13:27Very much enjoyed it
01:13:29Felt like it was unfinished business
01:13:30So when the email came through
01:13:32It's hard to say no
01:13:34Okay
01:13:34So
01:13:35How close to magic mic was it
01:13:39Philip
01:13:39How far did we go?
01:13:41There's a video
01:13:42I might show you someday
01:13:43Oh
01:13:44Okay
01:13:44I thought you had it
01:13:46Now
01:13:47No, no
01:13:50We're going to give that to you
01:13:52And you can actually have that
01:13:53On the show
01:13:54It didn't make the cut
01:13:55It didn't make the cut
01:13:56Amber
01:13:57Vogue of course
01:13:58In the jungle
01:13:59She did really well out there
01:14:02Tell us
01:14:03Any advice
01:14:04From her
01:14:05In terms of
01:14:06A reality competition
01:14:07Well, yes
01:14:08She did the
01:14:09Strictly
01:14:10Come dancing
01:14:11Christmas special
01:14:12She has told me
01:14:14That everyone is
01:14:15Diabolical in the beginning
01:14:16I'm yet to see that change
01:14:18She said there's
01:14:19Muscle memory involved
01:14:20I'm yet to see that
01:14:21Come into play
01:14:21But listen
01:14:22We're trying
01:14:22Okay
01:14:23You've met your dance partner
01:14:25I have indeed
01:14:26I have met her
01:14:28So I'm very excited
01:14:29To be part of the first
01:14:30All-female partnership
01:14:32On Dancing with the Stars
01:14:33And you guys are in training
01:14:36We are
01:14:37Training quite a lot
01:14:39Yes
01:14:39So I'm very excited
01:14:40And I feel privileged
01:14:41And proud to be able
01:14:42To go out on that stage
01:14:43And represent my community
01:14:44Brilliant
01:14:45Tolo, you're used to
01:14:47Performing in front of a crowd
01:14:48How nervous are you
01:14:49About getting out
01:14:50And showing us your moves
01:14:51It's very different
01:14:52I am a little bit nervous
01:14:54You know
01:14:54I mean, even when I am
01:14:56Performing and singing
01:14:56To like a crowd
01:14:57There's a little bit
01:14:59Of nervousness
01:14:59But then as soon as
01:15:00The lights come on
01:15:01It's showtime
01:15:02So I'm very curious
01:15:03To see how I learn
01:15:04But one of the things
01:15:05That I really wanted to
01:15:06Get into for next year
01:15:08Is joy
01:15:08Happiness
01:15:09Growth
01:15:10And the fact that
01:15:11Like I was asked to do this
01:15:12It just kind of
01:15:13Solidified what next year
01:15:15Is going to be
01:15:15And yeah
01:15:16I'm excited
01:15:17And hopefully
01:15:17That translates through
01:15:19So yeah
01:15:20It's going to be
01:15:20A great year
01:15:21Okay
01:15:22Before they get started
01:15:23We need some advice
01:15:24From OG
01:15:24What advice would you give them
01:15:25Oh my gosh
01:15:25Okay
01:15:26First thing
01:15:27Listen to your professional dancer
01:15:29I think they are
01:15:29The best guiding light
01:15:31That you have
01:15:31But also
01:15:32Really embrace
01:15:34The whole thing
01:15:35You only get one chance
01:15:36To do it
01:15:36So if you find yourself
01:15:38Going
01:15:38I can't do it
01:15:39My body doesn't do it
01:15:40Just like
01:15:40Silence those thoughts
01:15:41I know
01:15:43You're like
01:15:44I stepped on my pro's foot
01:15:46And she's angry
01:15:47But like
01:15:48Just embrace it
01:15:49And what you think
01:15:50Your body can't do
01:15:51It will surprise you
01:15:52And I think
01:15:52Once you just get over that
01:15:54I can't stage
01:15:54It'll be the best experience ever
01:15:56How's rehearsals been going so far
01:15:58Excellent
01:15:58I'm flying it
01:15:59I can tell you
01:16:02Literally
01:16:02I spend a lot of time laughing
01:16:04There's a lot of
01:16:05You know
01:16:05I didn't know that was going to happen
01:16:07And we're having a really good time
01:16:09It's kind of a lot of work
01:16:10And there's a lot of patience
01:16:11In my partner
01:16:12Which I think is very important
01:16:14Kindness as well
01:16:14I love a bit of kindness
01:16:15I didn't realise
01:16:16There was a ringer on the group
01:16:17Now that I know
01:16:18That you're a choreographer as well
01:16:19I'm going to be
01:16:20With my eye on you Philip
01:16:21But no
01:16:24It's really brilliant
01:16:24I'm loving it
01:16:25I was a bit nervous going into it
01:16:27But I'm actually having a great time
01:16:28There we go
01:16:30There's some 6-7 for you there
01:16:32So you can use those on the show

01:17:30When you jump into your bed
01:17:35When you jump into your bed
01:17:35Quickly cover up your head

01:18:23Are gonna light my merry ways

01:18:40Well I wish it could be Christmas
01:18:45Every day
