00:00We're here with Canbourne head coach Tom Kessel after today's top of the table clash with Luchtonians,
00:07which the Cherry and Whites secured victory in to go eight points clear. Tom, what were your thoughts?
00:12Definitely taking that at the start of the day. It was an interesting game that obviously we come out on top.
00:18I knew it was going to be that way in Clyne because they're very physical and obviously playing up there last year,
00:23I knew that it was going to be that sort of game. I'm frustrated that we went down to 14 men.
00:27It's not ideal, but actually I think the way we all come together and the result we got at the end was our standard performance.
00:36What were your thoughts on Josh's red card?
00:40I was on the other side of the pitch, I couldn't see it, so I need to have a look at it.
00:44Obviously something must have happened for Josh to react, potentially like that.
00:48He's not that way in nature as well, so I need to look at it.
00:53Frustrating for the team, but it's happened and we have to move on.
00:55You went down the slope in the first half and built up a 19-5 lead.
01:00Did you think that was enough or was it a case of you perhaps leaving a few points out there in the first half?
01:06I think potentially there was a couple of opportunities that we missed for our line-out that we could have built the scoreboard a little bit more.
01:11But if you actually look at the concepts of the game, we went down really early in losing Josh and actually I think we went 19-5 up for a long period of our second half.
01:20So to be in the game and be that dominant with 14 men, that's an outstanding performance from the boys and they've done a very good job.
01:27And what was the chat at the break?
01:29So we knew that they were going to fancy their chances of coming down the slope, but actually we were one try away from getting a bonus point.
01:38So let's go away, get that try and then give them nothing.
01:40They know that they're going to try and get their tails up, but actually how we can stick to focus is by looking after the ball.
01:46We don't have to score four tries anymore and then just be clinical, don't let them in the game, no cheap penalties, which was a little bit frustrating because we did give away cheap penalties.
01:54But I think the boys have done a good performance and stuck together so well, so it's nice.
02:00And you also ensured that they went home with nothing and obviously extended the lead to eight points.
02:06How crucial was it to make sure that they went home with nothing?
02:10Look, I think it's a long way to go.
02:12So technically we're at a halfway point now, so an eight points is a massive, massive buffer.
02:18I'd like more, but it's a good spot to be in.
02:21Let's get next week out of the way and then assess.
02:24I've got sort of a little break, but I'd have definitely taken us that day and I think that they were coming down to take more off us.
02:31So it's a good day at the office and I'm really proud of our boys.
02:35And talking of next week, you go up to Red Roof for the Cornish Derby,
02:39which obviously is a game which stirs emotions from both sides.
02:46How do you go about making sure that you focus on the game, but also enjoy the occasion as well?
02:52Yeah, I think the way we've got to look at this game, I believe that we're a better rugby team at the way we play.
02:59They might think different, which is good, and that's how they should think.
03:02But if we stick to what we're trying to do in our systems, I believe that we should get the outcome that we want.
03:08They're going to come with us with emotion.
03:09They're going to be charged up rightly so, because it's a massive derby that people are very passionate in the places that they live.
03:15And we're going to go out to represent everybody from Camborne, and we're also going to represent ourselves.
03:21And hopefully it's going to be a good day and we can go and do the job that we want to do.
03:26And back to today, there's some outstanding individual performances across the team.
03:30Any particular standouts for you?
03:32Yeah, I think AJ Hustle was awesome today.
03:34I think Sam Matavezi was another one.
03:35But it's almost hard to put too many names on it, like CJ Boyce was a great.
03:39Rory Kane, second game at this level.
03:42I think I could name loads of them.
03:45But I think, yeah, just a great job.
03:46Jack Andrew added when he came on.
03:48Sam Rodman added when he came on.
03:49So I think instead of picking out individuals, look at what we did as a team.
03:55And that's the most important thing and the pleasing thing for myself, really.
04:00And there was a crowd here approaching 1,000 today.
04:02Does that go to show what could be achieved here if you couldn't get up this year?
04:06Yeah, I hope so.
04:07I think we're creating something here that people want to now be a part of.
04:11When I first come here, if you look at the numbers that we had for training, it wasn't amazing.
04:14And now we're getting almost like 36, 40 people.
04:18And people are having to do other stuff when they've got 15 on 15, which is a challenge for me.
04:21But it's an amazing place and people are growing.
04:24And hopefully my ambition for the club is to keep growing.
04:28I know the club's got the ambition as well.
04:30But let's not get lost in that at the moment.
04:31We're going to go halfway through the season now.
04:35Let's see where we are at the end of it.
