Darren Gilbert's thoughts on Liskeard Athletic's 2-1 victory over Callington.
Transcript
00:01We're here with Lascard joint boss Darren Gilbert after today's 2-1 victory over Callington.
00:06Darren, what were your thoughts?
00:08Tough game. We won a goal behind, but we showed great character today.
00:14We won 8-0 through the week and everybody's on a high,
00:17and then you come here against the Callington side, a very, very good Callington side,
00:20and they made us work for it today. We had a chat after on,
00:24had a bit of a rant and rave because I didn't think we were trying to fight Finn Harrison
00:28instead of letting him win the header and sit off.
00:30I thought Josh McCabe was outstanding in second half.
00:32I thought he managed him very well, and he got his justice award today by getting the winner.
00:37The first half, like you say, was a pretty scrappy affair with neither side creating too many chances.
00:42What was set at halftime to try and change the game in your momentum?
00:46We always want to try to win the game. They come in, they were busy, they cut off the midfield.
00:53We tried to feed through Mabel to get people on the ball,
00:56and it just didn't happen for us today. They worked their socks off, do you know what I mean?
01:00That's credit to Callington. You've sometimes got to find a way,
01:04and today we found a way. Yeah, it wasn't the best in the score performance,
01:08but we dug deep and really proud of the team today because sometimes you win 8-0
01:13and everybody goes, oh, you should be winning it. You come here and you win 2-1
01:16and everybody expects a tough game. I knew it was going to be a tough game today,
01:19and it'll be even tougher when we go up there.
01:21Set pieces are always important. How pleasing was it to get the winner from one of those?
01:25Well, it's magic. You know, we work on set pieces and we haven't scored a lot.
01:29So for Josh to go, you know, Skipper's been out suspended. We've missed him.
01:33He came back in a great game midweek and then come top it off today,
01:37MOM for me and then score and a go. Fantastic. So yeah, really, really pleased for him today.
01:42And next week you go to St Dei, a slightly different challenge of a side sort of fighting for their lives down at the bottom.
01:48What sort of game are you expecting down there?
01:50Same as. Everybody wants to be the first team to beat us and I get that, do you know what I mean?
01:54And I'll be the same, but, you know, we'll go down there and we've got a few injuries.
01:57We missed Georgie Newton today. Georgie Newton's a big loss for us, injured, do you know what I mean?
02:01Hopefully we get him back and, you know, it'll be same as. They're fighting for their lives
02:05and they'll scrap for every ball and we've got to go down there and we've got to try to get three points
02:09and then go to Elberton. That game will hopefully take care of itself.
02:13Like you say, you've got Elberton on November the 15th. How important is it to go down there still unbeaten
02:19and obviously ideally with another three points to the tally before day?
02:23100%. I said all the way through these last couple of weeks, we need to get to the Elberton game without being defeated.
02:28If we could do that, the pressure's on them. We can go there quite relaxed.
02:32Like I said, that game will take care of itself. We need to go to St A next week and pick up three points
02:36and if we can go to Elberton, still in front of them, then I'll be a very, me and Gams will be very, very happy gaffers.
