00:00A lawyer representing the families of three men shot dead by police last month

00:05has called for Melaka Police Chief Zoukhairi Mokhtar to be put on leave

00:09for purportedly interfering with Bukit Aman's investigation into the case.

00:15Rajesh Nagarajan said Zoukhairi had made public statements on the case

00:19even though Bukit Aman's criminal investigation department

00:22had formed a special team to take over the probe.

00:25He said this created the impression that the Melaka Police were still handling the case

00:32raising concerns over impartiality.

00:36There are two options for the IGP and the Home Minister.

00:38Number one, you take this Melaka Police Chief and you put him on garden leave.

00:42Alternatively, you please transfer him to some other state

00:44where he will not interfere with the investigation in Melaka.

00:48Rajesh also rejected Zoukhairi's claim that the lover of one of the deceased was a criminal

00:54denying that she had 10 prior offenses.

00:58He accused the state police chief of lying and diverting attention from the shooting
