00:00Hi everyone, it's Allie from Hollywood Life. I'm so excited to be here today to talk to a super special guest who's promoting a super special partnership.
00:10We have Melissa Alcantara and she is otherwise known as Kim Kardashian's personal trainer. And I am going to ask her all of the questions today, all about training Kim, her fitness secrets, and of course her partnership with Degree.
00:35So we are just waiting for her to join in. And in the meantime, just make sure you send us any questions you have. She is an awesome trainer.
00:47Hello! Hi! Sorry, I'm like one minute late. Oh, it's okay.
00:56Don't worry about it at all. Guys, as usual, I'm going to turn off the comments so I can see Mel's beautiful face.
01:04And if you have questions, shoot them into the little question box and we'll try to answer them. But Mel, it's so good to have you here.
01:11Thank you. Thank you so much.
01:13Well, I am such a fan of you. I'm such a fan of your workouts and just the amazing transformations that you have helped people go through.
01:21And so, first and foremost, let's dive in to this exciting partnership that you've got going on with Degree.
01:29Tell me a little bit about how it aligns with your brand and your mission as a fitness expert.
01:36Well, I mean, you know, I always tell people, like, I don't work with just anybody.
01:42You know, brands always contact me to work with them.
01:46Degree and I pretty much have the same goal, right?
01:52So we want people to move to do what they need to do without feeling intimidated.
02:00You know, removing all the excuses.
02:03You know what I mean?
02:04And you want to walk into a gym or you want to do your workout.
02:10You want to be comfortable.
02:11You don't want people looking at you because you're, like, sweating or, you know, you're like, oh, my God, I smell like a farmer.
02:19I mean, no offense to farmers.
02:21But, yeah, like, this is an awesome product.
02:27You know, I've known Degree, you know, since I was little, been using it.
02:30Right.
02:30It's a family-known brand, and I'm just super happy to work with them, you know, to just encourage people to keep on moving, keep doing what you're doing.
02:41Don't, you know, stop just because you don't feel like, you know, it's already hard enough.
02:50You don't feel like you're good enough.
02:52Right.
02:52You feel like you're doing something wrong.
02:54And then on top of that, you have to feel insecure.
02:58So this was, like, awesome.
03:00I mean, I have used this deodorant, and seriously, the Degree Advance is the best.
03:08It's 72 hours, you know, nonstop.
03:12So you don't even have to reapply, even though you will, because, I mean, you do shower.
03:18You do.
03:19Right.
03:20Hopefully.
03:21Yeah.
03:21And it works.
03:22The more you move, the more it works, which I think is freaking incredible because it makes you want to move even more.
03:28You know, which is the whole point of all of this.
03:32It's like, keep on moving.
03:33Keep doing what you're doing.
03:35Don't stop.
03:36You don't need to.
03:37This is for you.
03:38I love it.
03:39Tell me a little bit about the gray t-shirt challenge that they are doing.
03:43Oh, my God.
03:44So this is awesome because, first of all, a gray t-shirt, gray pants.
03:51Anybody who's ever worked out knows that you sweat right through that.
03:55It's like.
03:56Yep.
03:57So the gray t-shirt challenge is literally you throw on your degree advanced, you throw
04:05on a gray t-shirt, and you get the most epic workout.
04:09And I want people to join me on this challenge.
04:12So for you guys watching this, please, if you're on Instagram, TikTok, hashtag degree t-shirt challenge, and join me on this.
04:23And get a super sweaty, crazy, epic workout.
04:27Or you could even do, like, hot yoga so that you can see how good this product is and how it works.
04:35And this is going to be very much fun for me because I am the most sweatiest person on the planet.
04:43Me, too.
04:44But I love it.
04:45It, like, really lets me know that I worked.
04:50Exactly.
04:51I mean, honestly, that's exactly how I feel.
04:54But, you know, a lot of people don't want to feel uncomfortable.
05:00Yeah.
05:01Have, like, crazy.
05:02There's something about sweaty pits that does something to somebody.
05:08It's, like, sweaty, but my pits, I just don't want that.
05:13Right.
05:14Right.
05:15Exactly.
05:15So we have degree.
05:16We use our degree, and we just, like, smell good while we do it, which we love.
05:21We love.
05:21Now, Melissa, you are also famously Kim Kardashian's trainer, and she has said that you helped her get into the best shape of her life.
05:32Now, what are your tips to just kickstart that healthy lifestyle and start training like you did with Kim?
05:39Well, I mean, like, for myself, it's really about, again, removing the excuses.
05:48I mean, you get to a certain point in your life where you're just like, man, you know, there's no amount of excuses that equal reps.
05:56Right?
05:57So I feel like that's how people think.
05:58They're like, if I think about this enough, you know, it's going to happen.
06:03And, yes, that's part of it.
06:05But you actually have to do the thing.
06:08You know what I mean?
06:10So, you know, you just, again, you get to a certain point where you're like, you know, all of this other stuff just isn't working for me, and I really need to make a change.
06:20And I feel like fitness is simple, but it's not.
06:24It's literally just making just some small changes in the beginning, learning about yourself.
06:30And then you keep moving from there.
06:33Most people want to start at intermediate level, and that is just not realistic.
06:39Mm-hmm.
06:40You know?
06:41Yeah.
06:41Like, respect where you are.
06:42Respect where you are in any journey in your life.
06:45If you're a beginner, respect that you're a beginner.
06:48Respect that you don't know the moves.
06:50Respect that you may feel like a total moron.
06:54Right.
06:54But that's just how it goes.
06:56And, honestly, it is my favorite part.
06:59I love being a beginner.
07:00I love progressing, learning, messing up, you know.
07:07Trying something new.
07:08Yeah.
07:09Yeah.
07:09It's freaking awesome.
07:11And I feel like your body, like, reacts well to those things.
07:14Like, when you're doing something so consistent every single day for so long, your body is going to get used to it.
07:19And so you're not going to see those results.
07:22Yeah.
07:23No.
07:23A hundred percent.
07:24I mean, as you get better and as you, you know, more time that passes, it's like the less you see the progress, right?
07:34In the beginning of anything, you see so much progress because there's just, like, all this information flying at you.
07:40But then it becomes more of a, you know, when people say, well, how do you stay motivated?
07:46It's really about just doing the thing so much that it's no longer about motivation.
07:53It's about this is part of me.
07:55This is part of my life.
07:56And this makes me feel good.
07:57And I know that this will make me feel better than not doing it.
08:03So that's just a part of who you are.
08:06And that's, I think that's the key.
08:08Most people, they're like, well, how do you stay motivated?
08:10And it's like, you know, I tell people, I'm not motivated.
08:15I'm not motivated all the time.
08:18Yeah.
08:18It's literally, okay, this is, it's like brushing your teeth.
08:21Practice.
08:22Right.
08:23Brush your teeth every day, right?
08:24Yes.
08:26Hopefully.
08:26I put on my degree and I brush my teeth.
08:30Sometimes there are those days where you're like, damn.
08:34Yeah.
08:35Spicy.
08:36I love it.
08:38And Melissa, what's your advice when it comes to diet and exercise to achieve weight loss?
08:46So it's, it's hard because, you know, most people, again, they want to overcomplicate things.
08:55They're like, okay, I need to do all of these things.
08:57Right.
08:58And especially in the beginning, you're not there yet.
09:01A lot of people like to ask questions that they're not even ready for.
09:04You haven't even done the prerequisite before.
09:09You know what I mean?
09:10So I always say the easiest way to start is, one, get a program.
09:20If you want to lift weights, if that's what you want to do, get a program.
09:24Okay.
09:24Because that's going to help you already have a plan.
09:27Don't go into the gym.
09:29Don't work out at home.
09:30Just, you know, off the top of your head.
09:32Mm-hmm.
09:33Program in hand and follow it.
09:36Yeah.
09:36You know, your favorite person, your favorite Instagram person like me, you know, choose
09:44someone that inspires you.
09:47Yeah.
09:47Now, nutrition, it's literally make your food at home.
09:52I don't care what you're making.
09:53You can make fried chicken.
09:54If this is the beginning, make your food at home and drink water.
10:00Yes.
10:01If you just did those things, there you go.
10:05My phone is, like, sitting on my giant bottle of water.
10:09Like, if you just do those things, you have no idea how many changes.
10:14And that doesn't require you, you know, Googling a bunch of stuff or type of scientific calculations.
10:22It's literally, like, that easy.
10:26Right.
10:26That simple.
10:27Not that easy.
10:28That simple.
10:29And over time, you start to learn about yourself and you start to understand what you like,
10:34what you don't like, what your body likes, what it doesn't.
10:37And then you start switching things up, right?
10:39Because at the end of the day, you want to be your own coach.
10:42You don't want to have to, you don't want someone else to know you more than you know you.
10:48Right.
10:48Right?
10:49Mm-hmm.
10:51Yeah.
10:51And do you, what inspires kind of your program and your workouts that you're kind of ever
10:58evolving?
11:00So, I'm always, like, on a, like, progress, right?
11:05Yeah.
11:06In any kind of way, whether that's muscle building, whether that's becoming faster, more flexible.
11:15You know, for me, it's, I always want to, like, get better at something because I have that,
11:22I'm very, like, competitive person.
11:25Yeah.
11:25Um, so, but I like to keep it fun so things can get very, like, kind of boring and I'm at the stage in my fitness where I can, I can be more lenient with things like that.
11:39I would say if somebody's starting out in their fitness, keep it consistent.
11:44It might, you know, it might get a little boring after a little while.
11:47That also depends on what your goals are.
11:49Mm-hmm.
11:50But, yeah, I like to keep it fun.
11:53I love to lift heavy.
11:54I love to, you know, get PRs and just see what I can do, you know, on any given day.
12:02Sometimes I'm following a program.
12:04Sometimes I'm not.
12:05But, you know, as long as I'm moving my ass, that's really all that matters.
12:11I love it.
12:11And when it comes to maintenance, I mean, you know, say with Kim, you know, she gets to where she wants to be.
12:17She hits her goals.
12:19What's your advice for maintaining and how do you not fall back into those bad habits that you might have had beforehand?
12:24Well, it's about keeping it, like, let's say I have a shitty day, a bad day.
12:36Curse.
12:39The next day, it'll be a normal day.
12:42I think that's where people mess up.
12:43They think that they need to, like, go crazy.
12:46They're like, oh, my God, yesterday I had some glasses of wine and I ate out and I had all that buttered popcorn and cupcakes.
12:54And it's like, okay, whatever that happened.
12:57Next day, eat normally.
13:00You know, don't go crazy.
13:02Don't starve yourself.
13:04Just be normal.
13:06Get your normal workout in.
13:08Don't go extra.
13:09Because all of that, you know, like, you're never going to find a middle ground or a balance when you're kind of always on this extreme spectrum.
13:18Yes.
13:18So it's just like, okay, I did that.
13:21I'm moving on, you know.
13:23And then that's literally how my balance works.
13:26Some days, I'm just, I'm all over the place.
13:28I'm, like, having drinks.
13:31You know, every meal is eating out, you know.
13:35Right.
13:35Whatever it is.
13:36And then for the next three or four days, I'm just, like, my normal self.
13:41I cook at home.
13:42I drink my water.
13:43I'm not, like, doing excessive cardio.
13:46Then four days will pass.
13:49And then I'll have another, like, crazy day.
13:52But it's how I stay sane, number one.
13:56And two, you know, I keep maintenance.
14:01Like, my body, like, okay, well, that's cool.
14:04You know, I know I don't have to do anything crazy.
14:06I can stay right here and be okay.
14:10Absolutely.
14:11Is there anything else that's coming up for you that you're working on that people can find you and end your workouts?
14:19Oh, my God.
14:21I have, I'm always working on so many things.
14:24I have some really exciting stuff.
14:26Hopefully, it'll be some TV stuff that will be out by the end of this year.
14:33But I always have new challenges and new workout programs on my app, Fit Girl Mel app.
14:41So I let people know all the time.
14:45Go there.
14:45I have workouts for beginners.
14:47If you're intermediate, if you're advanced, nutrition, motivational stuff.
14:51Literally everything that I do, I have on there.
14:55It's nothing that I wouldn't do.
14:57It's nothing that I've never experienced.
14:59Everything I've ever experienced in my 10 years in fitness is on there.
15:04So I encourage people to go there.
15:06I encourage people to do the degree t-shirt challenge.
15:10Yes.
15:11So don't forget.
15:13Hashtag.
15:14Okay.
15:14Get your crazy workout in and show me what you got.
15:18See if you can.
15:18Amazing.
15:20Yes.
15:21I can't wait.
15:22I'm definitely going to be doing it on my TikTok.
15:23So everybody, make sure you join in.
15:27Mel, thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today and for answering all
15:31those great questions.
15:33And we'll definitely be taking them to heart.
15:35I love everything you said about balance, too, because I think that that's key.
15:40That is key.
15:41Amazing.
15:42Having me.
15:43Of course.
15:44Thanks, Alyssa.
15:44Bye, guys.
15:45Bye.
15:46Bye.
