00:00Life-changing prize.
00:01Can't believe we're here.
00:03Stunning.
00:04Book a desk for you, Brett.
00:05Welcome to the best bed and breakfast.
00:08The keys to their own dream five-bedroom B&B.
00:14Four expert judges put them under the spotlight.
00:19Slightly chaotic, as they say, up north.
00:22The competition has been so tough this week.
00:24They did drop the ball pretty, pretty, pretty badly.
00:28Ooh.
00:28Across two weeks, they hosted real guests
00:31and tackled intense challenges every day.
00:35Whoa.
00:36Look at it. Stop asking me questions.
00:38I've posed it all up again.
00:40Right, we have a problem.
00:41At which point do we start to panic?
00:44Now, six couples have become four.
00:47No!
00:49Actually, actually, you're over it.
00:53Thank you so much.
00:54This week, the final four will be pushed to their limits.
00:59They have to do everything right this week.
01:02The competition is fiercer than ever.
01:04Now you're real on, is it here?
01:06How do you spell, team love?
01:07Breast forgotten tomatoes.
01:09Don't panic.
01:10Because at the end of this week,
01:12someone will walk away with a new life in France.
01:16You have won the bed and breakfast.
01:19Previously.
01:21Breakfast is served.
01:23I'd eat it all.
01:25Michelle and Steve entertain the judges.
01:28I love it when the cat get ripped.
01:30I feel really sick.
01:32She said sorry for your loss.
01:33And as the other finalists tried to learn all they could...
01:37Oh, I don't want to break this.
01:39Oh, wow, this is beautiful.
01:41...Justin and Paul finally got their turn in the hot seat.
01:44Through this whole process, we've just tried to be real.
01:47You were a little bit defensive.
01:48Fennier, nestled near the Limousin National Park.
02:00And at the heart of this beautiful village sits the prize of a lifetime.
02:06There's so much at stake that the prize is huge.
02:12It's a fabulous space.
02:14They have so much potential and opportunity.
02:17And we're very jealous, basically, of how it comes down to it.
02:23It's absolutely everything I would look for in a B&B.
02:28This five-bedroom former hotel just sitting,
02:31waiting to be opened as a bustling B&B.
02:36Four couples started the week desperate to change their lives forever.
02:41And today is the day one of them will get the keys.
02:47Yorkshire couple Michelle and Steve are on a mission to bring magic and craft to this sleepy village.
02:54I mean, the house is just so out of our league.
02:56It really is, you know.
02:58So to win it is just going to be amazing, isn't it?
03:01Belfast couple Nicole and Brett dream of making this home for their young family.
03:08It's the location, it's the lifestyle, it's the job, working as a family business.
03:14Devon Bakers, Nicola and Roy are desperate to have a business to call their own.
03:22The dream is alive big time.
03:23It's still, we do have the fire in our bellies for it.
03:26We really do want this house.
03:29Design-loving duo Justin and Paul from Hertfordshire want to follow their passion living and working together in France.
03:36We really, really do want to live here, don't we?
03:42Four couples, one massive prize.
03:46The final battle begins.
03:53Before the last challenge, one couple needs to impress with breakfast after hosting the judges overnight.
03:59I need to get my head in the sun, I'm not naturally a morning person, so I really have to fix the focus, which I can do.
04:09It's eight o'clock, don't worry, I'll do that.
04:11As long as you do do it.
04:12I will.
04:13Our last couple, Justin and Paul.
04:16After the first heat, I said I really want to see the real Justin and Paul.
04:23And they have proved such wonderful hosting skills.
04:27If I wanted to ask for something, I know it wouldn't be any trouble.
04:31I wonder if they can keep a consistent approach up until the end of the excursion.
04:37Let's hope so.
04:40We're going to do the same breakfast that we did in Heat Weeks because we felt that we had a good reaction from all of our guests.
04:48After serving up an impressive dinner, Justin and Paul are feeling confident.
04:52Because it's continental style, and we did kind of prep a few little things last night.
04:59I think the best win for us in the Heat Weeks was breakfast, because I think we nailed that.
05:04Everyone enjoyed it, and it wasn't over-fussy and over-delivered.
05:09Why fix something if it's not broke?
05:12Yeah, 25 past.
05:13I think they'll be down around half-eight, but it might be a bit more of a later start.
05:20Is that what you're doing?
05:21Are you doing the board?
05:22Yeah, but we don't want lettuce on it.
05:24Just pull that pretzel face.
05:26The hosting may be going well so far, but the slightest slip-up could be critical.
05:31Good morning.
05:37We have a very chirpy bunch this morning.
05:40Paul and Justin ended the Heat Week as the underdog, which we've been very transparent about with them.
05:47We were a bit slower to start, but the pace is picking up now.
05:51Good.
05:51That sounds a bit like us.
05:53They were criticised a little bit for having just a continental breakfast and no choices of good.
06:01It was just a bit meagre and not very exciting.
06:04OK, follow me.
06:06I think people expect everything to be bought locally, but then, of course, France is famous for patisseries.
06:12So, just a mixture of cheeses, pastries and yogurts, and then teas and coffees.
06:20I think you're all coffees, aren't you?
06:23Oh.
06:24What are you doing?
06:24That's the problem you've got to press.
06:27Say, from us.
06:28From us.
06:29I'm feeling it's going good.
06:31It's that nervous energy again, because you want to please and make sure this doesn't...
06:36You know, because we had a successful dinner last night, so you just don't want this to be the downfall.
06:41Has anyone had bread or pastries yet?
06:43I just had some of the baguette.
06:46I wonder if they managed to go to the bakery this morning or if they got it yesterday, because they woke up a bit late this morning.
06:52The pastries maybe look a little bit flat compared to yesterday's, very buoyant ones.
07:00Oh, my goodness.
07:01This is the table that keeps on giving.
07:03And then just to find a little charcuterie treat.
07:06Oh, there's apricots on there as well.
07:08Apricots, cherries, burrata with small cherry tomatoes.
07:14So who was in charge of the bakery run this morning?
07:18We luckily didn't have to do a bakery run.
07:21We were quite late yesterday, the afternoon, getting all the breads.
07:27So everything was straight out of the bakery from the supermarket.
07:30As suspected, the bread isn't fresh from this morning, hence why it's got that slightly stale, which I found highly disappointing.
07:42You know, when you've got such amazing projects on the table, it looks so pretty.
07:46And there's just that missed opportunity of making it perfect by not going to the bakery this morning.
07:51That's a bit of a faux pas for me.
07:52I feel exactly the same way.
07:55I feel very sad that there isn't a golden, blakey, crunchy on the outside, deliciously soggy on the inside croissant.
08:05You should write romantic fiction.
08:08Really?
08:09I mean, imagine losing this over a baguette.
08:12I think it'd be the Frenchest way to lose.
08:13Meanwhile, Nicole and Brett are the last couple on a research mission, and they're getting pointers on how to sell the family dream to the judges.
08:28Thank you so much.
08:30Thank you very much.
08:34They're very welcoming as a whole family, so that team structure's there, which is so important.
08:39You saw their two children and how helpful they were.
08:42And they had great people skills, you know, they were confident to show us our rooms.
08:46I think our children would really thrive here, you know.
08:49I do as well.
08:50It's just convincing them judges that we are ready as a family.
08:57Staying here with Patrick and Claire has definitely inspired us more.
09:01It gives us hope that as a young family, we are ready to do this.
09:06Time to check out.
09:08Short and sweet stay this time.
09:09Hopefully you'll stay longer next time.
09:11And bring the kids along, too.
09:12Yeah, absolutely.
09:13Thank you so much.
09:15You were amazing.
09:17Bye.
09:19They've got natural warmth, I think, which is what you need to welcome people into your home.
09:26I think they'll do a great job.
09:32Back at the prize B&B, Justin and Paul have served up everything they've got.
09:38How are we?
09:39How was breakfast for everyone?
09:40It's a very nice selection you've put together there.
09:43If I can give you just constructive feedback is that there are certain breads that you can keep from the night before until the morning, maybe the more rustic ones.
09:51But the baguettes, they tend to go a bit still the next day.
09:53Thank you very much.
09:55Our pleasure.
09:56Thank you, guys.
09:57See you later.
09:58See you later.
10:00Breakfast was good.
10:02It was well received.
10:03We had good feedback.
10:04So, you know, again, the bread thing.
10:06It's valid.
10:07It was a valid point.
10:08The last breakfast of finals week has been served.
10:13Later, all the hosts will pitch their B&B vision to the judges.
10:16But first, Justin and Paul have one last chance to shine.
10:22Getting up this morning, I think we felt quite comfortable in the house, didn't we?
10:25We definitely don't want this to be the last time we sleep in it.
10:28Well, we've got today, haven't we, to make sure that they think, yes, you're the ones that should have it.
10:33Having stayed with all four hosts, the judges are checking out for the last time.
10:39I think they could have done a lot more.
10:41I was expecting them to go to the very clasp of their limit.
10:46They should have gone to the local bakery.
10:49They've got the excursion this morning.
10:52So, let's see how that goes.
10:54I've still got a very open mind.
10:58Well, I'm really excited for your excursion.
11:00So, we'll see you later.
11:02OK, thank you.
11:03Thank you, guys.
11:04See you later.
11:06I feel like they enjoyed it, don't they?
11:08I'm really proud of what we've done.
11:10I'm just interested to know what they said, you know, when they were talking together.
11:27It's decision day in the limousine, when one couple will win the prize of a lifetime.
11:33But before any decisions can be made, Justin and Paul have their last few hours under the judges' spotlight.
11:40Who knows with the excursion?
11:44We've got our best foot forward.
11:45It will be fun.
11:49Justin and Paul are seizing their last opportunity to show off the creativity that will underpin their business plan.
11:56Hey, we all ready, guys?
11:58Yes.
11:59Yes.
11:59So, has anyone done floristry before, dabbled in it?
12:03I've arranged stuff from the garden.
12:07I used to work in a florist.
12:09So, Valentine's Day was always a nightmare.
12:13Very good.
12:20Here we are.
12:21Get ready to get your creative on.
12:24Oh, fantastic.
12:29Designers, Justin and Paul, have signed up local florist Marie to show them how to create mojito-style arrangements.
12:36So, today, that's what we're going to make.
12:39Well, I say the garden is set in on.
12:40OK.
12:41So, she's basically saying make sure that you're looking at it from all the angles.
12:44Yes.
12:45So, that you get a nice view, whichever way you look at it.
12:48You speak French.
12:50Merci.
12:51It's all about harmony.
12:53Paul, you look like you're absolutely in your element here.
12:57Is this what you'll like at work?
12:59This is my opportunity to have a go.
13:02Usually at work, I might do the initial concepting.
13:06So, this is me finally getting back into the do.
13:10You get to play.
13:11Yes.
13:11Fantastic.
13:12Oh, Eva, you're just trying to win, aren't you?
13:15Well, it's not just a competition for the hosts this way.
13:19I'm planning on winning this one.
13:26OK, Paul, so it's our turn to turn the tables.
13:30Let's flip it.
13:31Let's flip this.
13:33So, should we get our judges to turn the other way and we put them in order?
13:38Oh.
13:39Whatever.
13:40Nice one.
13:41We won't exclude our ones.
13:43So, we're judging.
13:45Yes.
13:47We're looking for composition.
13:49We're looking for movement.
13:51We're looking for flair.
13:52This suspense is killing me.
13:54OK, so if you'd like to turn and see if yours has swapped in place.
14:01Mine's gone.
14:03It looks like you're the winner.
14:05It's gone to the top, Nicola.
14:06We just thought the wildness really did come out and shine.
14:13We've won something at last, Nic.
14:15I'm overwhelmed because it doesn't happen to me very often.
14:18Eat your heart up.
14:19I'm a winner.
14:21Yay!
14:24Justin and Paul have blossomed, but their time hosting is now up.
14:29Well, this has been so much fun.
14:33Really fun.
14:33And it's wonderful to see Nicola winning something.
14:36Now, the next time we see you is going to be when you're presenting your business plan to us.
14:40I'm ready for the big reveal.
14:41And the best part about all of this is we saw, actually, Justin and Paul's artistic ability.
14:50It felt so sophisticated.
15:00All the hosting is over.
15:02The final battle can now begin.
15:04But who has what it takes to turn this stunning property into a thriving business?
15:12It really is going to change their life, which is why it's so important that the right couple win it.
15:19For the final challenge, the hosts must pitch their B&B vision to the judges.
15:25The bed and breakfast needs to have a business plan.
15:27It's so important to have every single angle thought about.
15:31It's time for the hosts to fight for their future in Fenier.
15:38We are slightly nervous because this is mega, isn't it?
15:41This is a massive, massive prize.
15:44First to enter the barn are Michelle and Steve,
15:47who are planning to open a B&B centred around magic and crafting.
15:53We absolutely want this so much, don't we?
15:56Well, we've planned it, we've built it, we've decorated it,
15:59and we've lived here.
16:01So we want it.
16:06Hello and welcome.
16:08We are really excited to hear and see your plans for the prize house.
16:14Right, so we've done the business plan,
16:17and we've put our heart and soul into this for you.
16:20Part of their creative vision is bringing along four boxes
16:24that represent the different retreats they plan to offer.
16:27For our B&B, we're doing workshops.
16:31This is the sort of thing that I would do.
16:33They would have a beginner kit, I will teach them out in it, OK?
16:37But there would be other things as well.
16:39So we're doing rag rugging.
16:41So this is the sort of thing that gets, step by step.
16:44And it's not just Michelle who can deliver crafting mini-brakes.
16:48It's over to you, Steve.
16:50Right, well, this is my little section.
16:53This is the appulsa section.
16:54So to just give you guys an idea of what I can do,
16:58and this is what I made.
17:00And each one of these is hand-fingered into place.
17:03And would you be teaching people this?
17:05I would be teaching people this, yes.
17:07So you would sell it as part of a workshop?
17:09Yes, I would sell it as a workshop.
17:11But they've got more to offer guests than just crafting.
17:14So the last one is the magic evening.
17:18So every so often, probably between six to ten people we would have.
17:22And it would be a magic evening event.
17:24Steve could be hired out as well sometimes on the evenings to do...
17:27You're selling your husband?
17:30Dinner parties, can we just get back?
17:32Make it fun.
17:33Have you got any questions?
17:35One or two.
17:36Oh, no, it looks like a day for a party.
17:38Oh, I thought we could go now.
17:39I think there's no doubt that you know about your craft.
17:42But I would really like to know how you would run a B&B on a daily basis.
17:48We're going to do it our way.
17:49I mean, our hosting skills are really, really good.
17:52We know that.
17:54We have four totally different couples.
17:56Yes.
17:57Why should we choose you two?
18:00Do you know what?
18:01We're quite unique.
18:04Yes, we are.
18:05You absolutely are.
18:06Yes, we are.
18:07We're very clever, really.
18:08It's all right having one avenue, right?
18:12But if it don't work, you've got other things.
18:13So we want this.
18:15We're the best couple, of course.
18:18LAUGHTER
18:19And, um, why do you want it so much?
18:22We can't afford this.
18:24To be part of this competition is, like, mega, innit?
18:28It's just like...
18:29It doesn't have to us, does it?
18:31It's just like...
18:32Oh, I'm getting upset now.
18:34I'm not going to help so much.
18:39Do you know what I mean?
18:40We're just like...
18:41I know I'm a couple.
18:42Don't get me wrong, we've a lot to learn.
18:44The French, the wine, and we're listening to what you guys are telling us.
18:47But Michelle, we'll never forget you.
18:50LAUGHTER
18:50You fill a room with joy and whatever the outcome, you are inspirational.
19:01Is there anything that you would have done differently?
19:04Dojo with curry.
19:06LAUGHTER
19:07But thank you.
19:10Thank you very much.
19:11Michelle and Steve's crafting and magic holidays
19:15have left the judges with plenty to think about.
19:18But will the judges think this plan will work for this B&B?
19:22We've done everything we could possibly do.
19:25And we wouldn't change anything, only maybe.
19:28What?
19:31Curry.
19:32Do you know, he's not going to let me live that one down, is he right?
19:34Honestly.
19:35You've got your faults, you know.
19:37I know I have.
19:38Yeah, I've seen them on the list.
19:39But as Michelle and Steve now wait for the results,
19:43it's time for foodies Nicola and Roy to enter the barn.
19:49Not feeling excited at all about doing the business plan.
19:51Oh, stop.
19:51No, not.
19:52I've been fine all day and it felt, like, really good,
19:55and now I'm like, oh, dear.
19:58We can't go in as friends.
19:59Is there a decision at the end of the day?
20:01I'm breaking it.
20:02Oh, my God.
20:03Damn it.
20:05I am panicking.
20:09It's the final day in the limousine
20:21and the hosts are pitching for their futures.
20:25Second into the barn are Devonshire bakers Nicola and Roy,
20:29who are pitching a traditional B&B named after their cat.
20:34Hello, judges.
20:37A very warm welcome to you and the very best of luck.
20:40Thank you very much.
20:41Nicola's wrote a little poem.
20:44It kind of covers the business plan.
20:47Monsieur Morgan's a relaxing, homely place to stay,
20:50serving tableau at night and breakfast the next day.
20:53We'll dress our rooms with chic but not fuss
20:55and put a bin in the bathroom as an added plus.
20:58Our operation plan is to work as a team
21:01to ensure our business runs like a dream.
21:04Dedication and hard work set us apart,
21:06along with a love of France in our heart.
21:09Very nice.
21:10Thank you very much.
21:12Through poetry, they've given a heartfelt account
21:16of the B&B they want to run serving up home-cooked food.
21:20We're going to offer guests where they can come,
21:24cook a four-course meal, sit down.
21:26We can discuss it, maybe make a couple of breads, pastry, whatever.
21:30We're going to do jam preserving, pickle preserving, chutneys.
21:34We can take a lot of the product from our own gardens.
21:36We're also going to have probably about 10, 12 chickens.
21:39So any food that we get left over with,
21:43it's going to go to the chickens.
21:45And the way we look at it, if we feed them,
21:47they're going to feed us.
21:49We've bought a few items just relative to the business
21:52so that you can have a wee look at.
21:54You can put that on.
21:55And the first one is this one here.
21:59Voila.
22:00Yay!
22:01Oh, very nice.
22:03Monsieur Morgan's bed and breakfast.
22:05So I'm going to let you taste our homemade chilli jam.
22:08Does anybody want to taste the eggs?
22:10It's hot.
22:15It's delicious.
22:16It's hot or not either.
22:17But it's quite hot.
22:19So we're also going to have an honesty box
22:21outside the front of the house
22:23with daily bakes and the homemade chilli jams.
22:28Their ambitions may be modest,
22:31but the judges have some questions about the viability of their plan.
22:35Do you think that you actually can live, thrive and blossom here in Fenier?
22:46Absolutely.
22:47We know that Run the B&B will never make you a millionaire.
22:50As long as we can live off and be comfortable, we're happy.
22:53Now, the competition is really high.
22:56They're four amazing couples.
22:58Why should we choose you?
23:00We've both worked in hospitality for years and years.
23:0430 years.
23:04And, yeah, we both love doing it.
23:07We love looking after people.
23:08We love cooking.
23:09We're feeders.
23:10We disagree over who's the best cook.
23:12I would say, honestly, Nicholas, you're...
23:14But it's something which we love.
23:16We just love to do, look after people.
23:17Thank you both for a lovely presentation.
23:20And no matter what the outcome,
23:22we're very, very proud to have had you here
23:26as part of this amazing competition.
23:29Thank you so much.
23:30Bye-bye.
23:31Bye-bye.
23:32Nicola and Roy dream of running a classic countryside B&B
23:37serving hearty meals made from homegrown produce.
23:41But will the judges think their vision is bold enough
23:44to claim the ultimate prize?
23:47I'm 50% wobbly and 50% confident now
23:50because we have the weight for the results.
23:52Yeah.
23:54We'll just see what happens.
23:55See what happens.
23:56We can do no more.
23:56Third to enter the barn are designers Justin and Paul,
24:03who are pitching a fresh take on the classic B&B.
24:08I think we're feeling quite confident.
24:11Yeah.
24:11About going in with the judges.
24:13I think, you know, we put together a good plan.
24:15I'm expecting a grilling.
24:16Hello, gents.
24:22Hello.
24:24Welcome to the barn.
24:26So our presentation today, and it's the House Act,
24:31and now we know it's the House at Finnegan.
24:33The team are looking to bring a youthful approach
24:37to their accommodation,
24:39creating a space to relax, gather, and socialise.
24:43Their mission is to create a contemporary aesthetic
24:45that is welcoming as well as stylish,
24:48with an atmosphere that is relaxed and warm.
24:52And then in terms of how we will style the house,
24:55Justin would treat this as a briefing session
24:57with one of his clients.
24:59So this just kind of gives you an idea.
25:00It's very pretty, the colours.
25:05Yeah.
25:07Again, it's the back-to-the-garden
25:08of kind of plant, organic colours.
25:12It's very tasteful.
25:13Very tasteful.
25:15Justin and Paul plan to renovate the prize house
25:18into a modern B&B that focuses on decor rather than dining.
25:24And in terms of the excursions,
25:26Justin and I did a lot of research
25:28in and around the tapestries of the area.
25:31The Cité International,
25:32which is the museum that we went for our inspiration,
25:35this year they've had 60,000 visitors,
25:37and the growth in their visitorship
25:40is coming from the Japanese visitors.
25:44And when we talked with the team there,
25:46they talked to us about having spaces like ours
25:49to be able to send dignitaries.
25:50Using their connections,
25:52the boys plan to bring the famous tapestries of the area
25:55into their B&B.
25:57So, what we'd like to do is present you guys
25:59with our view of that.
26:02This is for you.
26:03That is for you.
26:07And that's for you.
26:07The fabric on the front is from Uberson.
26:10The cushion that we've made for you all
26:12as a keepsake to take away,
26:14which would be the sort of thing
26:16that we would dress our rooms with.
26:18You've made it.
26:19Yes.
26:20Oh, wow.
26:21Absolutely stunning.
26:22It's beautiful.
26:22Absolutely.
26:23And then in terms of teamwork,
26:26the intention initially
26:27is that Justin will be based here, 360,
26:31and I will still work from the UK,
26:35coming out to France on all of my holidays,
26:38all of my breaks,
26:39and all of the time that I can.
26:40It'll be hard for Justin to start off with,
26:42but we also have an army of friends, family,
26:45waiting to support.
26:46I might not need him.
26:49I might have a part-timer.
26:52Do you think, honestly,
26:54that you can live, thrive,
26:57and survive in Fenie?
26:59I think we can.
27:01We really want to show B&B in a different light.
27:04You know, like, sometimes it can appear
27:07a little older, a little dustier,
27:10but we just want to present it
27:11in a more contemporary way.
27:13Why should it be you?
27:15The thing that gets us through the year
27:17is our annual trip to France.
27:21We want to just share it,
27:22and actually we want to share it with each other.
27:24And we understand each other.
27:26To meet two people so bound to themselves
27:30and the honesty of being that
27:32has been an absolute joy.
27:34So whatever the outcome,
27:35we wish you every success
27:37with the house at.
27:41Justin and Paul plan to turn the prize house
27:43into a contemporary B&B,
27:46tapping into the local art market.
27:48But will their vision be right for this property?
27:51It went really well.
27:53It's really rewarding to just share it.
27:56And I think now the judges get us.
27:59This is us.
28:00You're seeing the real us.
28:01The fourth and final couple into the barn
28:07are family-focused Nicole and Brett.
28:11I can honestly say I am so nervous today.
28:14It's the prize of a lifetime.
28:16I think it's going to be quite daunting
28:18going in there and then delivering
28:20in front of the judges.
28:21So we're doing this for our kids.
28:23Hello, everyone.
28:27Hello.
28:28Hello.
28:29Hello.
28:30Welcome.
28:31So before we start our presentation,
28:33we're going to give you a little sample of some tea.
28:36They plan to run a family-friendly B&B,
28:39inspired by Nicole's heritage,
28:41and will serve chai tea,
28:43their signature dish, through the competition.
28:46Imagine arriving at a family-led boutique bed and breakfast
28:51with a warm tea in hand, this is residents' art.
28:54We've always wanted to create something
28:56that combines family, food, culture, community and hospitality.
29:03This is more than our home.
29:04This is our dream.
29:05We'll offer home-cooked, authentic meals
29:08that will have ingredients all from local produce.
29:11As well as running the B&B,
29:14Nicole and Brett have plans for other income streams.
29:19So what is our vision?
29:21So we're thinking the community field.
29:23I believe that this could be the heart of Veneers.
29:26We want to run events.
29:28The yoga classes pop up in Dane.
29:31It's bringing the community to us
29:33and allowing us to make memories here.
29:35So financially, you're probably thinking,
29:37how are we going to do this?
29:39Yes, we've sold our house in Belfast
29:41and we will use funds to make the living space in the loft area
29:46because, of course, it's very important for our children
29:48to have their own space here too
29:50because at the day they're sharing their home with people.
29:56I'm trying to think.
29:58Can I take two wee minutes?
30:00Of course.
30:01Right, OK.
30:02Financially.
30:06I've lost track now.
30:07We know that it's not going to happen overnight.
30:15For me, personally, as a young girl,
30:17I've always dreamed of living in France
30:18and this property over here has the beautiful shutters.
30:22I know it's going to be amazing for my family to make memories in
30:25and give the children the best upbringing we can give
30:28and it'll just mean everything for my wee team.
30:30So thank you.
30:32And breathe.
30:36So are you ready for some questions?
30:38Yes.
30:39Can I ask you individually,
30:41if all goes according to your plans,
30:44what aspect of running a B&B are you most looking forward to?
30:49Do you want the short list or a long list?
30:51For me, it's cooking in the kitchen.
30:53I say, like, the kitchen's my home.
30:57I think for me, personally,
30:58I really enjoy meeting new people
31:00because I find that from every person
31:02you can learn something from.
31:03It's a lovely answer.
31:05Thank you, Red.
31:06We have four amazing couples.
31:09Why should we choose you guys?
31:11This would just mean everything to our family.
31:13We've always dreamed of having our family in one place all together.
31:17We want this to be a family property
31:19and stay in our family for generations.
31:21Oh, God.
31:26I'm terrible.
31:28She's doing it as well.
31:31The four of us have been on a journey with you.
31:33You've grown so much.
31:35It's a joy for us to spend time with you.
31:41Nicole and Brett plan to launch a family-friendly boutique B&B
31:46with authentic Indian flavours woven in.
31:49But will their passion be enough to convince the judges they're ready?
31:53This is more than a house to us.
31:55This is our home.
31:56This is our business.
31:57This is our livelihood.
31:58And it's a dream.
31:59And the opportunity of a lifetime.
32:02Very, very anxious for the results now.
32:05Each couple has laid out their vision for their futures.
32:10Now the judges face the toughest decision of their lives.
32:14That's it.
32:16It's all different.
32:17And it's bloody stiff competition.
32:20Right.
32:20Okay.
32:22It's time to decide who will win the keys to the B&B.
32:25All four couples have hosted the judges overnight.
32:41They've pitched their vision for their B&B.
32:44Now the judges must decide who will win the prize of a lifetime.
32:48This process has almost broken me.
32:55We have this incredible prize.
32:57We have four very, very talented couples
33:00who have very special products for us.
33:02Very different.
33:04And therein comes a dilemma.
33:06How do we make this decision?
33:07The judges will assess each couple's business plan,
33:12consider their guest books,
33:14and reflect on their hosting throughout the competition.
33:18First up for scrutiny is Michelle and Steve's B&B,
33:22hosting crafting and magic retreats.
33:26Their presentation as well with the business plan,
33:29those red houses, it was just genius.
33:31It just represents them so much.
33:33It's a very solid business plan.
33:35It's extraordinary.
33:36It feels like it's a big plan.
33:38I see them making money, absolutely.
33:40To focus on the craft,
33:42as in arts and craft aspect,
33:44as the key USP,
33:46there is a lot of demand for that.
33:49It does sell.
33:50It's a brilliant idea.
33:51No, but the best part about that
33:52is that Michelle is an avid crafter
33:55and a very talented crafter as well.
33:57She's a canny little businesswoman.
33:59She absolutely is.
34:00And then we experienced a lovely stay with them,
34:04but it was very full-on.
34:07You know, it was event after event after event
34:09because they're natural entertainers.
34:11I just don't want them to lose themselves
34:14in a place that's maybe too quiet for them.
34:17Next to be debated is Nicola and Roy's traditional B&B,
34:22focusing on home-cooked meals and sustainability.
34:24Now, the business plan was simple.
34:28But in a way,
34:29its very simplicity
34:30sort of suits this place.
34:34I mean, they have said to us,
34:35we don't want to be millionaires.
34:37They want to run a happy life
34:39in a rural village in France
34:42in small traditional B&B.
34:44Roy is a pastry chef.
34:46Nicola is a very good cook.
34:48It's very much on-brand
34:50in terms of the growing the vegetables,
34:52the growing the soft fruit for the jams
34:54and the marmalades,
34:56the having the chickens to use up the leftovers.
34:58They've thought up everything
35:00to make it a lovely, sustainable way of being.
35:04But you also need to make a profit
35:05because it's nice to have a lovely home
35:07and open your doors to guests.
35:09But you need to make a living out of it.
35:12And I think they're not in this
35:13to make a huge amount of money.
35:15It's a lifestyle choice.
35:16So I think it's sustainable with low ambition.
35:19The biggest negative note for me
35:20out of that whole business plan
35:22is the naivety that's gone into it.
35:24However, on the other side,
35:27they've been warm, friendly, caring
35:29and kind hosts.
35:32You just have to read their guest book.
35:35Designers Justin and Paul
35:36are offering a stylish contemporary B&B
35:39that celebrates the arts and crafts of the area.
35:42The most impressive brochure
35:45brochure.
35:46It's so smart.
35:48Oh, it's slick.
35:49It's so well done.
35:50They've got an eye for design.
35:52It's beautiful.
35:52Very tasteful.
35:54I also really enjoy spending time with them.
35:56I really do.
35:57Because they're very relaxed.
35:58It's very sophisticated.
36:00They have put together a project
36:02that even the title of the project,
36:05The House At.
36:07I mean, would I want to come here?
36:09Absolutely.
36:09And my only worry
36:12that he's only going to be one of them
36:14most of the time.
36:15It'll just be Justin.
36:16Justin on his own
36:17would be taking on a hell of a lot
36:21and not having the constant support of a partner.
36:24Huge positives are
36:26that they are tapping in directly
36:28to the UNESCO aspect,
36:32the tapestries,
36:34the arts and crafts of this area,
36:36which is international.
36:37In the region, that's so design.
36:39And they will make this beautiful
36:41and they will make the garden perfect.
36:44Last to come under the judges' scrutiny
36:46are Nicole and Brett,
36:48who plan to open a family boutique B&B
36:50serving Indian cuisine
36:52to guests and the local community.
36:55Wow.
36:55We have a ready-built boutique hotel.
36:59This is a very sophisticated plan.
37:01It is,
37:02but it's with their family at the heart of it.
37:04I think involving the community,
37:06bringing the community straight in.
37:09It would just bring
37:09a lot more life to this village
37:11and I think they would bring
37:12a lot more young life
37:13to this village as well.
37:15We all know
37:15Nicole's an excellent cook.
37:17Do you think it's too polished, though,
37:19the concept?
37:20Is it too elevated?
37:23It's them, once again.
37:24They're aiming for perfection.
37:26There was a stress factor
37:27that did knock on to guests.
37:29And when you're going for so much
37:32or the rest,
37:32I'm not seeing any down points
37:34in the stress.
37:35I would love to see them here
37:37blossoming their time together,
37:40having a wonderful family.
37:41I'm just a little bit anxious
37:43that they're creating more stress
37:45in a foreign country.
37:47Without any support network.
37:49Can they do it?
37:50Yes.
37:51Can they do it now?
37:53Four couples,
37:55one prize B&B,
37:57five hours deliberating,
37:59and the clock is ticking
38:00for the judges
38:01to reach their final verdict.
38:03It's just about the people
38:06that are going to be here
38:07and how happy the guests
38:08are going to feel there.
38:09We also need to know
38:11that we're not going
38:11to give away a house
38:13that sits empty
38:15or gets sold in a year.
38:16I think food is also
38:17at the heart of a B&B
38:18and if it's something
38:19you're struggling with...
38:20We are, after all,
38:21it is bed and breakfast.
38:23B&B.
38:24At the end of the day,
38:25we really have to think
38:27who gives the best B&B experience.
38:32Ultimately,
38:33after much deliberation,
38:36I think we've made our decision.
38:38I think we have,
38:39but I think we've made it
38:40on the basis
38:41that we wouldn't want
38:42to put somebody
38:44into this house
38:45who we didn't feel
38:47it was right for.
38:49It's been really, really tough,
38:51but I'm sure we've made
38:53the right decision.
38:54Right.
38:55Let's go and deliver the news.
38:57Let's go.
38:58Three gruelling weeks,
39:0032 guest comments,
39:0221 sleepless nights,
39:04and one couple's life
39:06about to be transformed forever.
39:09The way it's been horrendous,
39:11it's just been
39:11a really long day,
39:13emotional day.
39:15My life in some
39:16has held its hands
39:17at the moment.
39:19The wait's been
39:20very, very nerve-wracking,
39:21but we're ready
39:23for the result.
39:24I think we've waited
39:25long enough.
39:27Yep.
39:27We're ready.
39:28We're ready, yep.
39:34It's a bit dark, isn't this?
39:40Hello.
39:44Nicole, Brett.
39:46Nicola, Roy.
39:49Michelle and Steve.
39:52Justin and Paul.
39:54No doubt
39:55you both have
39:56incredible design skills
39:58and a beautiful eye
39:59for that.
40:01We have no doubt
40:03that people will travel
40:04far and wide
40:05to come and stay with you.
40:08We love your ambition
40:10and your concept
40:11for your future business together.
40:14Your hosting skills
40:16are second to none,
40:19which was confirmed
40:20by all of your guests
40:21in their comments.
40:26Running a B&B
40:27can be a tough business,
40:28and we do have
40:29a few concerns.
40:31Justin will be here
40:33alone
40:33for a significant
40:34amount of time.
40:36All the focus
40:38on workshops
40:40and events
40:41could take away
40:43from the B&B
40:44and guest experience
40:46rather than
40:47adding to it.
40:50Your business plan
40:52is quite simplistic,
40:54and you're selling
40:54yourselves
40:55as pastry chefs
40:56in the land
40:57and a lot of bakers.
41:00We feel the high-end
41:02boutique experience
41:03that you're aiming for
41:05would put you
41:06under far too much pressure,
41:08and that would continue
41:10to affect
41:11the guest experience.
41:12But your business plan
41:17is a real vision.
41:22We've taken everything
41:24into account,
41:25and we've made
41:26our final decision.
41:27We're very sorry,
41:35but you haven't won
41:37the B&B.
41:38Okay.
41:42We've come to
41:43a very difficult decision.
41:45I'm sorry.
41:50You have not won
41:51the B&B.
41:52We'll give it as best.
41:53Yeah.
42:00It's been
42:01a very difficult decision
42:03between you
42:04and one other couple.
42:06You have so much ambition
42:12and we can see
42:13the most amazing
42:15family business
42:16for you both.
42:20You have made
42:22some mistakes,
42:23but you've always
42:25handled them brilliantly
42:26with humility
42:28and kindness.
42:31But we have made
42:33a decision.
42:36You haven't won
42:38the B&B.
42:40Thank you
42:41for the most
42:42amazing experience.
42:46You have won
42:48a B&B
42:49in France.
42:51What?
42:52What?
42:53What?
42:53Congratulations.
42:54We haven't won it.
42:58What?
43:00Oh!
43:02Give me a hug.
43:03Oh, I'm so happy
43:20for you.
43:24Four couples
43:25came to France
43:26hoping to win
43:27the prize of a lifetime.
43:29Three couples
43:30are going home
43:31empty-handed.
43:33It is disappointing,
43:34but we love
43:35what we do.
43:36We know others
43:37do love it.
43:38Not right for this,
43:39but it's going to be
43:39right for lots
43:40of other things.
43:44It wasn't
43:45the result we wanted.
43:46No, we got it
43:47didn't go our way.
43:48The dream
43:49is definitely
43:50still there.
43:54I'm really,
43:54really gutted,
43:55I'm not going to lie.
43:56This is not
43:57the end for us.
43:58There's opportunities,
43:59believe you me,
44:00I will find them
44:01opportunities.
44:04Whoever's won,
44:04I just wish him
44:05all the best.
44:07But for Nicola
44:08and Roy,
44:09life will never
44:10be the same again.
44:12How are we feeling?
44:13Oh, my God.
44:14We just want to
44:15be in France.
44:17It's unreal.
44:17Something I've always wanted.
44:19It made our dreams
44:20come true.
44:21I mean,
44:21being given this
44:22is just,
44:23it's life-changing.
44:24We will cherish
44:28this house,
44:29absolutely cherish it
44:30and not take a moment
44:31of it for granted,
44:32ever.
44:32As they take the keys
44:33to their very own
44:34five-bedroom B&B.
44:36We're just so excited
44:37that we own
44:38a B&B in France.
44:40I can't believe it.
44:42Thank you so much.
44:43Thank you so much.
44:45Still hasn't sunk in.
