An independent survey of bus passengers using services to and from the historic Yorkshire market town of Otley has revealed huge dissatisfaction, but First Bus say things have improved since the summer.
00:00How often do you use buses in and around Leeds, and what do you make of them?
00:05Surveys and stats are compiled throughout the year, with one recently published survey focusing on Ottley.
00:12895 people took part in May and June this year, with the results only just now being revealed.
00:18Ottley Town Council's Traffic and Transport Committee commissioned independent researchers' People and Places Insight.
00:24They found 71% of respondents were dissatisfied with the frequency of services, with 61% dissatisfied with reliability, and 59% dissatisfied with punctuality.
00:36Passengers were asked how they felt about the X84 in particular, which was reinstated with reduced frequency in February.
00:44Exactly half of users said it had got worse since then, with one in five saying it had got much worse.
00:50But have things improved since the summer?
00:52Well, First Bus have said the punctuality of the X84 service has improved by 42% compared with a year ago, with 8 out of 10 trips arriving on time between August and October this year.
01:05They highlighted the continuous congestion issues on the Ottley to Leeds route, and said by reinstating the X84 limited stop service, it was not possible to retain a direct link to Pool in Wharfdale, while also maintaining frequency across the core service.
01:19Survey respondents said they wanted clearer information when services are cancelled or delayed, and called for a more integrated transport system, asking whether the bus service between Ottley and Menston could be more closely aligned with the timetable of trains to and from Leeds city centre.
01:35On a positive note, passengers reported they were largely satisfied with value for money, safety, cleanliness and comfort of buses, and with the state of Ottley bus station.
