Four French nationals allegedly broke into a Canberra home and stolen millions of dollars worth of jewellery and watches.
Transcript
00:00Earlier in October this year we had a residence in Canberra subject of a
00:03targeted burglary. A lot of high-end items were stolen. The value of these
00:07items runs into the millions of dollars. This is a really unique incident. It's
00:12probably akin to something we might see in a movie where we have four people
00:16fly into Australia from another country from the other side of the world. They
00:20target houses and items worth millions of dollars. Quite professional in their
00:24approach, take a lot of steps to evade detection and capture. Among some of the
00:29unique items stolen include Patek Philip watches, Hermes rings, a Van Cleef
00:34necklace and a Richard Mill smiley watch. We have recovered some of those items. We
00:40did that with New South Wales Police in Sydney but also using our reach into
00:45overseas policing with French authorities where search warrants were executed over
00:48there and we've recovered some stolen property there in France as well. Within
00:52four days of receiving the investigation offenders were identified, apprehended,
00:56search warrants executed and offenders extradited, brought to justice in the ACT.
01:00So great work by the detectives here from ACT policing. They've done an outstanding job.
01:05Anyone with information about these items is encouraged to speak to police, attend a
01:09police station or we can do so anonymously via Crime Stoppers on their website or
01:13phoning at 1800 333 000.
