00:00If this is the beginning of the end for Jalen Hurts,
00:03and yes, that's just in and of itself, it's funny.
00:07He was the Super Bowl MVP 12 months ago.
00:11Nine months ago.
00:13Nine, ten months ago.
00:13Yep, my bad.
00:14Ten months ago, he's the Super Bowl MVP.
00:17Now this is the beginning of the end.
00:19We'll see.
00:19He references Carson.
00:21He's talking about Carson Wentz.
00:22Can we bounce around to a few quarterbacks?
00:24And you tell me, and I'll tell you, and you all can tell us,
00:30888-957-9570, who has maybe their best days in front of them
00:36and who has their best days behind them.
00:39And obviously the number one we want to get is Brock Purdy.
00:43Do you think Brock Purdy has his best days in front of him
00:46or his best days behind him?
00:48In front of him, hashtag he'd better,
00:52because his 53 purr hasn't even kicked in yet,
00:57and the Jalen Hurts part of it,
00:59and maybe we'll throw that out there as the launching point for all of this,
01:03but just looking at his contract,
01:04if you want to go ahead and be done with him, WIP radio host.
01:09Oh, you're screwed.
01:10Well, if you want to do a post-June 1st release,
01:14the dead cap is $72 million next year and $45 million the year after.
01:19So your cap hits, your cap gobble is a Joey Chestnutty-in day at the office with hot dogs.
01:27Okay, so that's obviously really, really bad.
01:31But back to my point that I've constantly made that you like to make fun of,
01:35which is cap schmap.
01:37Right.
01:37One team recently did this.
01:41They recently went,
01:42you know what,
01:43we hate our quarterback so much
01:45that we are just going to eat a big pile of cement
01:48and we're going to deal with it.
01:50We'll deal with the consequences.
01:53We're going to be paying bajillions of dollars for absolutely nothing.
01:56It's going to mess up our cap,
01:58but he can't be our quarterback,
02:00so we've got to do something else.
02:02That team is called the AFC 1 seed.
02:05That team is the Denver Broncos.
02:08They are 11-2.
02:10They found a quarterback on a rookie deal
02:13who they are at least doing some good things with.
02:17I know Bo Nix has been a little polarizing,
02:20but I still live in the world of,
02:24you can do anything you want.
02:25You can do it.
02:27It just puts you know what into it.
02:29Yeah.
02:31It's not,
02:31I'm not saying it's ideal,
02:33but you can do it.
02:34And I don't know if the Eagles will do it.
02:37That is a very fickle town, obviously.
02:40But yeah, I'll agree with you there.
02:42Best days are ahead of Brock Purdy.
02:45I don't know if team result.
02:47Best day,
02:48I don't know if he's ever going to go to a Super Bowl again.
02:50I hope so.
02:51I hope so.
02:53Right now,
02:53I'm more focused on just better health days
02:55ahead for Brock Purdy.
02:57More consistency in terms of availability.
03:01But I don't know.
03:03Look at this.
03:03How about if I said Mahomes?
03:06Best days in front of him or best days behind him?
03:07I'd say behind him, honestly.
03:09I agree with you.
03:10I mean, his best days.
03:11Does that mean that he can't still be a top seven quarterback?
03:15Of course not.
03:16But his best days were days where he was the best quarterback in football
03:20and he won three Super Bowls.
03:21So, if you want to look at his best days,
03:25I don't think that anybody's best days,
03:28outside of maybe Montana and Brady,
03:31has anybody's best days ever been better than his best days?
03:34I mean, Bradshaw, whatever.
03:35We can play the Troy Aikman game of people who've won bowls,
03:39but the greater point is,
03:41his best days are among the best days in the history of best days.
03:45So, how could you not think that Mahomes' best days were behind him?
03:48Is he going to win four Super Bowls from now to the end of his time?
03:52I don't think so.
03:53He's had his 30th birthday.
03:54Yep.
03:55I mean, not that that's like the end of days by any stretch.
03:58Certainly not the quarterback position.
04:00Hell, the Colts might start someone who's 45, 44, 45 years old.
04:04But I agree with you.
04:06Like, Patrick Mahomes has probably had his best days.
04:10And I wonder if anybody will ever transfer that thought that you just heard WIP
04:17share about Jalen Hurts.
04:19I wonder if anyone will ever do that.
04:21Like, Travis Kelsey's going to retire.
04:24He's going to retire.
04:25Eventually.
04:25Maybe this year.
04:26Are we going to hear, well, I tell you what,
04:29if you don't give Mahomes a great defense and a great tight end
04:33and great receivers and a great running back, I don't know, man.
04:38It just doesn't seem to work anymore.
04:40They're 6-7.
04:42Right.
04:42They have a losing record at Week 14.
04:44They have a 10% chance, based on the metrics I was looking at,
04:4810% chance to make the playoffs.
04:50And you know what they can't claim?
04:52I know that they lost a few O-linemen this week.
04:55They cannot claim that they've been crushed by injury.
04:59Can't do it.
05:00Not relative to other teams.
05:01Nope.
05:02Not.
05:02Even the Chargers have lost multiple tackles.
05:04Not the way, I mean, everybody loses people to injury,
05:06but not the way that basically teams who have really had one of those
05:12outlier seasons, like the 49ers last year,
05:15or even like what you're seeing, I don't know how you can say it,
05:18they're 9-4, but even like what you've seen this year,
05:21they can't do that.
05:24He's just 6-7.
05:26Right.
05:26He's just got to wear it.
05:27Well, it's because of what we talked about,
05:30and this is why I was so adamant in our preseason conversation,
05:34and you and I talked about the regression.
05:36They were 12-0 last year in one-score games.
05:4012-0 in the regular season and the postseason combined.
05:44This year they're 1-6 in one-score games.
05:46Now, that's a dramatic market correction.
05:5012-0 was, I think, the best one-score season ever,
05:54and 1-6 is really, really bad, probably not the worst ever,
05:58but the truth lies somewhere in the middle,
06:01and so the regression from 12-0 to 1-6 is dramatic,
06:04but that, for me, is a big reason why I was going to fade, fade, fade
06:09the Chiefs this year.
06:10I think Lamar Jackson has his best days behind him.
06:13Fade, fade, fade.
06:14Thank you, yeah.
06:15I mean, this year is a real kind of bucket of cold water on the Ravens.
06:20I think Lamar's hurt.
06:22I think he's going to be better someday.
06:24And I'm a huge Lamar Jackson fan.
06:26But with his style of play and what it looks like when he does not have elite speed,
06:32I think that you'd be pretty fearful right now of where the second half
06:36of Lamar Jackson's career is going to go.
06:39Yeah, what about Baker Mayfield?
06:40Would you say that his best days are still, there'll be brighter days ahead?
06:46Because he's been awesome.
06:48Baker's probably 29?
06:5130.
06:52Just turned 30.
06:53Oh, okay.
06:53Yeah.
06:54Well, I'm looking it up.
06:55No, I know.
06:55He's 30.
06:56That's a pretty good guess.
06:57I mean, yeah.
06:58I didn't think he was 28.
06:59I didn't think he was quite yet 30, but...
07:01Baker Mayfield.
07:02I think Baker's...
07:04Hmm.
07:05I think his best days are in front of him.
07:06Yeah.
07:06It's a tough one because he's right at that spot.
07:08He's played a lot of football, and he's been playing well now for a few years.
07:12And, you know, what would be the next level, the next gear for Baker?
07:16It would be sustained playoff success.
07:18Playoff success.
07:19Yeah.
07:19I don't even know about sustained.
07:20How about just a run?
07:21Yeah.
07:21Like, let's just take a run.
07:23Like, stop winning a division with nine wins, and let's take a run.
07:27The other one that I was thinking about as a bubble person would be Jared Goff.
07:32Yeah.
07:32I don't think he's 30.
07:34I think he's 29.
07:35I might have gotten that one wrong.
07:36See, no, I think he's on the other side of 30 would be my guess.
07:40Jared Goff is 31.
07:42Oh, wow, yeah.
07:43Yeah, he's 31.
07:44Just turned.
07:45I think Jared Goff's best days are behind him.
07:48Yeah, wow.
07:49I don't have, like, a ton of evidence on that.
07:51He's still got good years left, but Jared Goff, to me, feels like a guy who, just based
07:59on math and probability, probably missed his best chances.
08:05Went to the Super Bowl already once with the Rams, lost, and then, I don't know, there
08:12was this game where he had a 17-point halftime lead in the NFC title game, and they lost it.
08:20And again, it's they had a 17-point, you know.
08:23But, like, that...
08:25And he made multiple throws that were to his own team that were dropped.
08:28Oh, I don't put the loss on Jared at all.
08:31But the bottom line is the bottom line.
08:33I mean, like, y'all had it.
08:36Y'all had it.
08:37And I don't know if they would have beaten the Chiefs or whatever, but they had it.
08:40Yeah.
08:41What about Sam Darnold at 28?
08:43Another one of these...
08:45Sam is such a tweener.
08:46We can look at, like, Bo Nix and Drake May and Jordan Love.
08:49Okay, your best days are in front of you.
08:51I get that.
08:52But, to me, it becomes interesting when you look at guys like Tua and Darnold, and, I
08:59mean, even Calamari.
09:01Tua, definitely behind him.
09:03Kyle Amari, behind him.
09:06Sam is such a tough one.
09:07Sam's going to need to do something to where some team is going to be like, let's stop dating.
09:12Everybody's dating Sam Darnold.
09:15When are you going to be like...
09:16Sounds like a movie.
09:16Dating Sam Darnold.
09:17Dating Sam Darnold, at least a reality show, even now, what's the contract?
09:21What do you get in Seattle?
09:23Three years?
09:24Yeah, three and a hundred, I think.
09:25Okay, that's nice.
09:26You can date me for three and a hundred.
09:28Oh, yeah, that's the Baker contract, but it ain't 50.
09:31Nope.
09:31It ain't 60.
09:33And in five years, it's three.
