Shadow Chancellor of Exchequer Sir Mel Stride, says “the government has misled the British people” after it raised taxes in the 2025 Autumn Budget. Stride continues saying, “it’s really important that we hold the government to account”.

00:00It's really important that as the opposition we hold the government to account and know we're more important than on the economy
00:06because the government has made a complete hash of managing the economy and has misled the British people.
00:12So the Chancellor said before the general election they weren't going to be putting up taxes on hardworking people, they did just that.
00:18She more recently did the same thing all over again, saying that she wouldn't come back for more tax.
00:22And the heart of their choice is to put up taxes in the budget and to increase the benefits bill.
00:27And we think that the government should be held to account on that.
