02:26Here we are at Bandamere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado.
02:29Track is a quarter mile long nestled in the scenic foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
02:33Because of the track's high altitude, the air is thinner.
02:36Races depend on the oxygen in the air to mix with fuel for combustion.
02:40So thinner air means power management can be challenging at this track.
02:45Bandamere is famous for its ability to host a whopping 23,500 race fans in its grandstands.
02:51Opened by John Bandamere Sr. in 1958 to provide a safe place for people to learn about cars
02:56and race them off the streets.
02:58This track has been a staple in the racing community.
03:01After 65 years, the track is closing at the end of this racing season.
03:05It's an honor to be a part of this great track's legacy.
03:08We have a really good field out here.
03:11We have eight locals.
03:13One of them is going to represent the great state of Colorado.

03:21These drivers are some of the fastest around.
03:23And then they're here to prove it as they aim to be the last racer standing earning them
03:27$5,000.
03:29And whoever pulls that off will race a street outlaw for the chance at another $5,000.
03:34These locals don't know who that outlaw will be yet, but we do.

05:02so we just made this truck what it is and just put more power to it so it would go faster.

08:53camaro this car has twin turbos my dad bought my car when he was 17. he has had it for 30
09:00eight years and it's been mine since i turned a year old definitely my dream car it's making well
09:06over 1200 horsepower already and we're not near the limit when i'm up on the line and i'm holding
09:11the trans brake it is just the best feeling and i know that as soon as i let go of the button
09:15the car is going to do what i want it to do smaller turbos than typical ryan they're a decent size for
09:21the stock bottom end okay understood all right builds boost quick it does actually but i use
09:26nitrous to spoil it nitrous express is a big part of the program how long have you been racing
09:31because you you can speak the language i can tell that you're very passionate about this oh yes this
09:38is my one true love alexis is more of a veteran than she appears to be i think she has a lot of
09:43experience behind the wheel a lot of confidence i think that she has a really good chance of winning

13:08there my name is dylan christensen i have a 73 nova and i'm 26 years old i work for a custom car
13:15shop perks automotive we build anything from show cars to complete and total custom work this car is
13:21an iron block ls with a turbocharger all the motor work me and my friends did ourselves we didn't have
13:28the money to hire it out i grew up watching the street outlaws ever since it came on discovery channel
13:33and i said one day i'm gonna be on that show i'm gonna race with these guys and now here we are
13:39how much no prep experience do you have this year this is my first year as a driver
13:44is it really yep okay let me ask your friends let me ask your friends very nice car but still yet a
13:50budget build yep he builds his own custom cars this is his first race car dylan is obviously a hobbyist
13:57at this point trying to see what it's like to be a professional and this is a perfect opportunity to

14:27track was high school drags when i was 16. i've been doing it ever since the best part about racing
14:33is letting go of the button it's it's exciting it's exhilarating it's an adrenaline rush and it's
14:39it's it's awesome what inspired this build to have a truck first off just to be something different and
14:46then try to compete with those types of cars right labor love yeah maybe spend more time cleaning it
14:53than i do racing it but right yeah after looking over at all the cars would you say that you're the
14:58underdog here no okay i like this guy you know he's got some confidence uh he's very calm he has
15:07experience behind the wheel i think he needs to go out there have a good time be careful with the truck

18:43so we've got a twin turbo ls 66 millimeter turbos power glide just run-of-the-mill drag car
18:49i was actually pretty sheltered as a kid i didn't do very much i was kind of the nerdy kid playing
18:54kart games and video games and stuff i didn't realize how much i loved racing until i actually got behind
18:59the seat of this car it just gets better and better and better and you just you'll never get
19:03rid of the bug i can tell that you're wanting to go fast in this car because way back in the day
19:10in the 80s when you had hood ornaments right we always turned them this way that's for extra
