02:05Today, we're at Firebird Raceway near Eagle, Idaho at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

02:15This drag strip opened its gates in 1968.
02:18As the only surviving quarter-mile drag strip in Idaho, Firebird Raceway remains a major racing
02:24facility for the entire Pacific Northwest.
02:28It hosts nearly 50 days of racing each season.
02:33Firebird Raceway has deep roots in the history of American racing.
02:37They continue to ensure the future of the sport by hosting one of the country's longest-running
02:42high school drag racing programs.
02:44Firebird Raceway has been nominated in the National Register of Historic Places because
02:49of its significance to the sport of drag racing.
02:53So, we got locals only here.
02:55These guys are going to be racing out for $5,000, and if they beat each other up and there's
03:00one left over, they get to race a big tire street outlaw for another $5,000 for a total
03:06of $10,000.
03:07What do you guys think about that?
03:09These drivers are truly some of the fastest and baddest this area has to offer.
03:15And let's not forget, the last local standing takes home $5,000, and that's a once-in-a-lifetime
03:21opportunity.
03:22So, the lucky local will get a chance to race an outlaw for another $5,000 makes it a total
03:27of $10,000.
03:28The locals don't know who they're racing yet, but we do.
03:32It's one of the biggest surprises in this NPK season.

03:50Now racing with No Prep Kings, Damon has been a fixture at the top of the pile, winning

05:04Didn't have a license for eight to ten years over street racing.
05:07And now we just race at the track and that way we keep our driver's license.

05:48It's a 408 LS motor, twin turbo, intercooled.
05:52Runs on E85.
05:53And it makes a lot of power.
05:55Top trucks have been around for a long time.
05:57Been kicking ass and taking names forever.
05:59It's got everything he needs to be on the street.
06:01Mirrors, lights, turn signals, all that stuff.
06:04My dad was very passionate about cars.
06:06And that's what got me into it.
06:07My dad used to take me to drag races.
06:10He definitely opened my eyes to it.
06:12Right now, it's pretty much a bare bones race vehicle.
06:15It is street legal.
06:16We do drive it a lot.
06:17But it'd be nice to have carpet and a nice sound system and air conditioning
06:21and make it to where my wife actually wants to ride around with me in the hot days.

14:20I've had it for, like, 20 years, and it started off as just a fun little street car.
14:25We put an LS engine in there with a little turbo and just had fun with it, and it's been
14:30kind of exceeding our expectations.
14:32I take my kiddo in this car.
14:34We drive it quite a bit to the car shows and stuff like that, as you can see.

14:41What do you think about riding in the Chevelle from school?

18:13Car's called Unnatural Aspiration because it's turbocharged and it's going to go fast.
18:18I'm a retired Air Force veteran.

18:21The car with a twin turbo LS making upwards of 1,300, 1,400 horsepower.
18:29But overall, the car from the windshield forward is stock.
18:33So I got my racing starts in the streets of Japan.
18:37I came back to the States, did a little bit of street racing, but that's when I really started
18:40hitting the tracks because in the States, the cops aren't as friendly as they are in
18:45Japan.
18:46I want to show you guys that this is the car to beat.
