00:00Life-changing prize.
00:01Can't believe we're here.
00:03Stunning.
00:04Book a desk for you, Brett.
00:05Welcome to the best bed and breakfast.
00:08The keys to their own dream five-bedroom B&B.
00:14Four expert judges put them under the spotlight.
00:19Slightly chaotic, as they say, up north.
00:22The competition has been so tough this week.
00:24They did drop the ball pretty, pretty, pretty badly.
00:28Whoa.
00:28Across two weeks, they hosted real guests
00:31and tackled intense challenges every day.
00:35Whoa.
00:36Look at it. Stop asking me questions.
00:38I've posed it all up again.
00:40Right, we have a problem.
00:41At which point do we start to panic?
00:44Now, six couples have become four.
00:47No!
00:49Actually, actually, you're all right.
00:53Thank you so much.
00:54This week, the final four will be pushed to their limits.
00:59They have to do everything right this week.
01:02The competition is fiercer than ever.
01:04Now you're real on us at here.
01:06How do you spell, team love?
01:07Breast forgotten tomatoes.
01:09Don't panic.
01:10Because at the end of this week,
01:12someone will walk away with a new life in France.
01:16You have won the bed and breakfast.
01:20Previously...
01:21Are you ready for this fight?
01:23Bring it on!
01:24The dream came within reach.
01:26Wow!
01:28Oh, my God!
01:30As the finalists plotted a future that could be theirs.
01:34I'm lost for words.
01:35I won it so, so bad.
01:37Oh, my God!
01:38Hello there!
01:39And Nicola and Roy...
01:41Here we go!
01:42...began their fight to claim it.
01:45There's a lot of silence.
01:46The sun is up and the heat is on
01:58for the finalists battling to win the B&B of their dreams.
02:04Oh, Steve, I'm loving this, you.
02:06Oh, look at it!
02:07The Jacksons are here!
02:11Oh, Steve.
02:12It's special.
02:13We really want this, don't we?
02:15Come on!
02:18I'm cutting up the soda bread for the judges' breakfast.
02:22And they can have it with homemade marmalade and jam.
02:26Or a big slab of butter.
02:28I'm not nervous.
02:29I always say them, just like the little duck,
02:32nice and calm on top and then down here.
02:36Bonjour, deux cafés.
02:38Deux cafés, oui.
02:39S'il vous plaît.
02:40S'il vous plaît.
02:41We want this as a family-run business.
02:43We want to pass this down to our children
02:46and maybe to their children
02:47and have this property and our family
02:49for years and years.
02:52This looks lovely, doesn't it?
02:54It's quite nice.
02:56It's a nice picture.
02:57A bit more relaxing.
02:58Yeah.
02:59This is just the start
03:01and I think we've worked really hard to start it.
03:03I feel like we deserve it.
03:05The finals week is off the starting blocks.
03:15What's good?
03:16Well, it's very good, yeah.
03:17And the pressure is on
03:19because this week the judges are staying over
03:22so they can experience each couple's culinary
03:24and hosting skills 24-7.
03:27Last time, in the heats,
03:30they had the luxury of being in their own property.
03:33Yeah.
03:34Here they're having to host us.
03:36And only 24 hours.
03:38Exactly.
03:38And they have to shine for those 24 hours.
03:41First up, Nicola and Roy,
03:43who are now halfway through their time
03:45hosting the guests who can change their lives.
03:49You know what we need?
03:50A bread knife.
03:51In case anybody wants to sleep,
03:53I've got a bread knife sitting.
03:54We'll be at the sink.
03:55I did feel a little bit trepid
03:58about coming and being a guest
04:00because we've only observed prior.
04:03But I walked through the door
04:04and it just felt like
04:06we were actually having a little holiday.
04:10It felt like they've been living in the house for months.
04:13And I keep telling myself
04:14this is about running a B&B.
04:17It is.
04:17And we've got to feel that we could sit, relax,
04:20have a drink, have a chat to them,
04:22go and sit in the garden, eat a bucket if we want.
04:24I could walk down there now
04:26and it wouldn't matter what they were doing,
04:28what they were up to,
04:29they'd give me a warm welcome.
04:30Yeah.
04:32I've had a cry this morning
04:34because I went in to set the dining table
04:38and realised that this is the first and last breakfast
04:42we'll ever do
04:42or this is the first of many, many breakfasts we'll do.
04:46And I just had a bit of a...
04:48I've had my 10% wobble today
04:50and I had a cry
04:53because neither of us want to leave this house
04:56but we know we have to today
04:58to let the other people have their turn.
05:03But now comes Nicola and Roy's biggest challenge
05:06because in the heat weeks
05:07it was the breakfast that tripped them up.
05:10Breakfast this time, we're not taking no risks.
05:17It'll be a traditional French breakfast.
05:19I think the first time we elaborate it in too much.
05:22We are doing eggs
05:23because it's a simple thing.
05:26Yeah.
05:26As long as the poached eggs aren't served cold.
05:30Was that a dig at me, darling?
05:32No, darling.
05:32So I took it out and put it in a plate there, right?
05:39So I put all my yoghurts in there
05:41and it'll look all nice and pretty.
05:43And I'll keep it nice and cool.
05:47Good morning.
05:48Morning.
05:49Good morning.
05:50Hi, all right?
05:51Did you sleep okay?
05:52Yes, how did you sleep?
05:53Yes, very well.
05:54Very, very well.
05:55Excited for another day.
05:56Yeah.
05:57Want to take a seat in the dining room?
05:59Sure, thank you very much.
06:00I think he's realised very quickly
06:02that there were issues with some of the dishes,
06:04especially the eggs benedicts.
06:06So I'm hoping he's toned everything down
06:08and just focused on delivering
06:09a high-quality breakfast.
06:13Morning.
06:13Good morning, Nicola.
06:14How are you?
06:15Morning, how are you?
06:15How are we?
06:16You okay?
06:17Yes.
06:18Did you sleep okay?
06:19Oh, absolutely.
06:19You?
06:20Yes, like a top.
06:21They were quite ambitious
06:22in their choices of breakfast
06:24in the first week.
06:25So they got themselves into a bit of a pickle.
06:28Good morning.
06:29Good morning, Andrew.
06:30How are you?
06:31Yeah, all's good, too.
06:31Good morning.
06:32How are you, bro?
06:33When you are a professional chef, come on.
06:35Yeah, bring it.
06:36Yeah, bring it on.
06:37Show us what you've got.
06:38Exactly.
06:39I think the girls have decided where you're sitting.
06:41Bonjour.
06:41Bonjour.
06:43You want us this side, do you?
06:45We want you to sit next to each other
06:46just in case you get separation anxiety, if you will.
06:49While it's Nicola and Roy's big moment,
06:56Michelle and Steve are waking up
07:00with a more relaxed start to the day.
07:03Do you want a coffee, Cheryl?
07:05Oh, yes, please.
07:07They're staying at a treehouse B&B
07:09as part of their mission
07:11to build a standout business plan
07:13for the end of the week.
07:14Right, I'm on it, Steve.
07:17I'm raring to go.
07:19You've made yourself look pretty.
07:21It doesn't take a lot.
07:23You've been in there two hours.
07:25The owners of this unique B&B
07:31are Brits Nat and Andy
07:33who moved to France ten years ago.
07:37And every morning, Nat delivers breakfast by hand.
07:43Bon appétit!
07:44Thank you!
07:46Come on, Cheryl,
07:47this is how you get muscles, this, innit?
07:50Oh.
07:51Oh, this looks posh, doesn't it?
07:53Right, go on, I'll hold that.
07:55Right, come on, let's have a look.
07:57How do you open it, then?
07:59I love the excitement of what's in there.
08:02Oh, my God!
08:03How beautiful is this?
08:05Oh, you can smell it.
08:07Yeah.
08:07You can smell bakery.
08:09Oh, pan of chocolates.
08:10No, there's a proper word for that.
08:12Pan de chocolat.
08:14Yes.
08:18Wow.
08:19There you go.
08:21No, I'm having a caution.
08:22I mean, this is on another level.
08:26It's wowsers, you know, and that's what we want.
08:29When they walk into our prize home, we want them to say, wowsers.
08:34Do you know what?
08:37It's made us realise even more that this is what we want to do.
08:41We want to host, we want to look after people, we want to have fun with people.
08:45And you know what?
08:47This has just absolutely put the fire in the belly even more.
08:51I didn't think it could, but it did.
08:53I think they've got great personality.
09:09I think they'll be incredible hosts.
09:11I wish them the best of luck.
09:12I have no doubt they'll do very well.
09:14Yeah.
09:14I think they're really nice people and they'll go far.
09:17As Michelle and Steve leave bursting with ideas, they've left behind one of their own,
09:25just in case Nat and Andy fancy following in their unique footsteps.
09:38Meanwhile, it's crunch time at the prize B&B.
09:42And after issues in heat week, there's simply no room for error.
09:56And we have, um, this one?
10:02Crozoire cake.
10:03Crozoire cake, yeah.
10:04Made with, um, um, hazelnuts from the region.
10:07Oh.
10:08Okay.
10:09There's some yogurts there.
10:10There's more as well.
10:11It's just, that's all that fit in the dish.
10:15Oh, wow.
10:15Did you ice the dish?
10:17Oh.
10:17I've made a, I'm glad you noticed.
10:19I made a little ring then, put flowers in it, just to make it look nice and keep the yogurts.
10:22Oh.
10:24Nicola, you could wear that as a crown.
10:26It would melt very quickly.
10:33The judges need to see improvement today, and local produce will be the key.
10:41This is so good.
10:42It is good.
10:43That's very clever.
10:45So, who made the cake?
10:47Me.
10:48Delicious.
10:49It is lovely.
10:51Mm.
10:52It's very good.
10:53Very good.
10:53It's a lovely bite from the hazelnuts as well still.
10:56Mm.
10:56Mm.
10:56Good.
10:57Just in case it's not enough.
10:58Would anyone like any eggs?
11:00Boiled?
11:01Poached?
11:02Scrambled?
11:03Honestly, I...
11:04Everyone okay?
11:05Yeah.
11:05Yeah?
11:06I think this is great.
11:08Is this the soda bread?
11:09That's the Irish soda bread.
11:10Ah, but you made for us.
11:11Yes.
11:12Bambulist.
11:13So, hope you enjoy it.
11:14With four very good hosts this week, no one can afford any slip-ups.
11:21This week, all judges will have to be even more critical of everything because the price
11:27is so big.
11:28I think this competition is going to make or break people, you know, and really see who
11:34can actually run a B&B and who can't.
11:38I mean, if they're not on form every minute of those 24 hours, they could drop the ball.
11:44Have you tried your orange juice yet?
11:46Yeah.
11:46Is it good?
11:47Revolting.
11:48Revolting.
11:48In the limousine, Nicole and Brett are out shopping in a local market, getting ready
12:06to take charge of the prize house.
12:09I think we'll get a lot of things here, to be honest.
12:11Yeah, I think you can get most things here.
12:13You can get your fresh bread if you want it.
12:15As the second hosts to enter the house, they'll need to show they can embed in this region
12:21by providing a locally-sourced dinner and breakfast.
12:27I guess we have to raise the bar this time, maybe free in a few extra specials, but I don't
12:39know how we're going to do that.
12:40We need to put our heads together and think.
12:42So, Brett, if we just pop the cherries on then with lovely croissants, just kind of
12:47put out that continental kind of...
12:49Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:50And then we can talk about how they're seasonal.
12:52Merci.
12:53Merci.
12:54Merci.
12:56B&Bs in this region rely on dinners to bring in extra income.
13:00So I'm thinking the bitters, Brett.
13:02Okay, bacon, yeah.
13:03So this challenge is designed to show who has the recipe for success.
13:11Je voudrais, toi, patrin, fumig.
13:15This one.
13:17We've had our feedback from the judges, so...
13:19We'll take it on board.
13:21Yeah, we've took it on board.
13:22They did mention the pressure and the stress maybe came across in our faces, so we do need
13:27to smile, like Brennan says, and have fun.
13:31That's perfect, perfect.
13:33We're good hosts, we're good learners, and we're just ready for this.
13:40Brett, that's like 10 euro for that.
13:43That's why I know it's not right.
13:44Three, oh, okay.
13:50No, it's 3.10.
13:523.10.
13:52That's right, yeah.
13:54I got it.
13:55Merci.
13:58Shop complete.
13:59Now Nicole and Brett's 24 hours of scrutiny is about to begin.
14:04We are super ready.
14:06Let's go.
14:07Game one.
14:08We have been waiting for today, so we're ready.
14:14Meanwhile, it's time for the judges' verdict on Nicola and Roy's breakfast service.
14:27So, what do you think of the breakfast selection?
14:30Really good.
14:31Jolly good.
14:32It's really good.
14:33The only thing is the orange juice is pretty grim.
14:35I'm really impressed that they've got the cake.
14:38They've done their work.
14:39They've done their homework, their research.
14:41I like being offered an egg as opposed to that being the breakfast.
14:45They are listening.
14:46They are.
14:47They are changing.
14:47Definitely.
14:48And we've got a lovely service, so, you know, if that coffee pot went down, I'm sure somebody
14:54will notice.
14:55Yeah.
14:56That's the difference.
14:56They've brought children.
14:59Later, Nicola and Roy have one final time to shine, taking the judges on a trip to a bee farm.
15:06Okay, guys, you want to get ready and we'll head to the bee farm?
15:11Yeah.
15:11Fantastic.
15:12Nice job.
15:16This day was wonderful.
15:18We loved being here and we loved hosting the guests and it was just...
15:22It was home.
15:23It was homely.
15:24If I can explain that, when you walk into a property and it automatically becomes your home
15:29straight away, it's just amazing.
15:30We just hope it's not our last breakfast in the house.
15:33We hope it's the first of many.
15:35Leaving the house is going to be, yeah, emotional and we just hope that we will be back.
15:47It recognises us as the nice ones.
15:50The nice judges.
15:51The nice judges.
15:53Okay.
15:54Perfect.
15:54I hope next time we're coming here, well, we are coming here again, we're unpacking
16:02our bags.
16:04Hopefully this is not the end.
16:06I loved it.
16:06I don't think we could do any better.
16:08It's not the end.
16:09It's just starting.
16:09There's three more couples to go.
16:11I know we love it, but we've done our best.
16:13We did.
16:13I tell you, I'm proud of you because we've done better than best.
16:17Yeah.
16:17Worked as a time, we've done well.
16:24We did.
16:26Give us a hug, we guys.
16:27Oh, oh, oh, oh.
16:29We've done that.
16:30We did.
16:30We spoke about now, we're about to go.
16:34Let's go.
16:35Let's go, yeah?
16:37Let's go.
16:38All right.
16:38Armwards and upwards.
16:41I'll have you go first.
16:46Bye, wee room.
16:47See you soon.
16:49You've been very good, Tis.
16:50Big sore.
16:52Let's go.
17:02As the door closes at the prize B&B for Nicola and Roy, it opens for the two new hosts.
17:09And it fades like home.
17:11Their 24 hours begins now.
17:15All right then, no pressure today.
17:16Nice and relaxed.
17:18I think you tackle the bedrooms.
17:20Yeah.
17:20Because I have a lot of chopping to do for dinner.
17:24Have you got a checklist this time?
17:27All on there.
17:29Good.
17:29Room's got all my checklist with my pen.
17:38What I've got here is I've got some just bits for each room just to sort of put a mark on it.
17:44So here we've got some bags of lavender and probably put it on this bed.
17:47This week, the rooms have already been cleaned because the judges are focusing on the hosting skills, the vital ingredient for any B&Ber.
17:56It's the people that make a B&Ber, it's a people job and it's you're pouring your heart and soul, your personality into everything that you do.
18:07They came in the most professional.
18:12They had a brand.
18:13They were gunning for it.
18:15The brand, brand, brand, brand, brand show.
18:18But I know nothing about Brett and Nicole.
18:21Cooking in this house is just unreal.
18:25It's really, really lovely.
18:26Tonight, Nicole and Brett need to show they can create a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere for guests.
18:34Brett?
18:35Yeah?
18:36Tea tomatoes?
18:38Uh, okay, hang on.
18:41No, but did you pick them away?
18:43No.
18:45Nicole and Brett's strength from the heat wake was that they've came so well prepared.
18:51And if anything didn't go according to plan for Nicole, it added a layer of stress.
18:56So Brett's forgot tinned tomatoes.
18:59But I'm sure they were ticked off.
19:02And it was me that did the list.
19:05So we didn't get tinned tomatoes then.
19:07You're going to have to go and get them.
19:09Okay.
19:10How soon do you need them?
19:13Well, judges are coming at half four, so...
19:15Yes, but how soon do you need them?
19:16Probably now.
19:18Do you need them right now?
19:19Yeah.
19:20Okay.
19:21Go for it.
19:22Oh, that's them.
19:24Where I am then.
19:27Is this room's nearly set?
19:29Okay.
19:45Meanwhile, Nicola and Roy are heading to the local bee farm.
19:49Are you looking forward to it today?
19:51Yes.
19:51Yes.
19:51Super excited.
19:53Let's go then.
19:54Yeah.
19:54Okay.
19:55It's down to each host to choose the trip that best represents their USP.
20:01But that's not all the judges want to see.
20:04The most important thing for me is that it's not up to us to be the entertainment.
20:13For their personalities to come out.
20:15And the fun aspect as well, I really would like to see.
20:18Yeah.
20:19I mean, you could take anything and make it a great experience by injecting your personality.
20:25Sure.
20:27It's so beautiful out there.
20:29It's amazing.
20:30It's proper forest.
20:31It's like Ireland, only warmer.
20:32It is so, so green.
20:35So how did you find this place?
20:36How did that come about?
20:38I've always been interested in honey.
20:40Yeah.
20:40Always.
20:40I've never been a beekeeper.
20:42But I just adore the taste of it.
20:44It's a natural product.
20:46Mm-hmm.
20:46And hopefully we can do trips like this for our guests.
20:54All right, here we go.
20:59Today's outing is being led by Guillaume, who has two and a half million bees.
21:10This is the heart of the hive.
21:12And these are the extensions with the honey.
21:14Honey-making has a long history in this region.
21:18And Nicola and Roy are keen to use this product in their own B&B.
21:26So we always stay behind so we don't disturb them when they go out and in and out at the front.
21:32Wow.
21:34My goodness.
21:35Are they upset when they're taken out?
21:37He knows that these colonies of bees are very calm.
21:40It has to go really slow so they've got time to move.
21:43They see it coming down.
21:44That's blew my mind, all the work they do.
21:52Last night, Nicola and myself baked some little...
21:55Madelins.
21:56Madelins.
21:57I think it'd be nice to try them with some honey.
22:00That's a great idea.
22:01Yeah.
22:01You can tell which ones are covered in Belgian chocolate, can't you?
22:05I'm going to go natural.
22:10Oh, it's amazing.
22:12Do you want to be hand-waved?
22:13Oh, thank you.
22:14Are you really sad about everything, haven't you?
22:16A little hand-waved.
22:19Nicola and Roy have done all they can.
22:22And won't see the judges until the end of the week when they'll present their business plan.
22:27We look forward to seeing you on Friday.
22:28And in the meantime, use that time wisely.
22:31We will.
22:32We definitely will.
22:33Thank you very much.
22:33Thank you, guys.
22:34Bye-bye.
22:36And Joe.
22:38Bye.
22:40What a wonderful event.
22:42It really summed up their personalities, though.
22:46There was the fact that it was producing something natural.
22:50It was very relaxed.
22:51It was permaculture.
22:53It was integrated into the environment.
22:56There was the journey there.
22:57There was the chat at the end.
22:59And we had a good crack, didn't we?
23:00Just being together.
23:02And then they had the water refreshments, you know, the cakes after.
23:07Exactly.
23:08It's them.
23:08It's them.
23:09It's them.
23:10They're just lovely.
23:13Obviously, the next time we see the judges, they're not going to be our guests.
23:16They're going to be our judges, and they will judge.
23:19I think they'll be fierce.
23:20Yeah.
23:21So it'll be like ravening the headlamps.
23:24They'll have to do their job.
23:25Yeah, absolutely.
23:26And we've got to be ready for that.
23:27Yeah.
23:27Meanwhile, as Nicola and Roy's 24-hours hosting is over, Brett and Nicole's is about to start.
23:38Success.
23:40That is mission success.
23:43Tim Peaches, Nicole.
23:44Do you have to have my life?
23:47They told us not to stress, and your app was an extra stress.
23:51You do the food, I'll do the whoops.
23:53Okay.
23:53Everyone always says it takes so long cooking a curry, but when you're used to cooking it
24:00at home, you're kind of quick.
24:02It's an easy one.
24:04We're just going to do something called a borrow basket.
24:07So, like, you know, if you forget a toothbrush, or obviously you can't borrow a toothbrush and
24:11then put it back, that's yours to keep.
24:14But, you know, like, you know, there's some cotton buds there, and again, you can't put
24:17them back.
24:18But, you know, you can just help yourself to this, and just take it if you forget something,
24:21then it's there.
24:23It's now half past three, and time is running out.
24:27It's nearly time the judges are coming.
24:29We need to start getting ready.
24:33They need to appear calm if the judges are to feel relaxed, too.
24:37Do you think I put myself under too much pressure, though?
24:41Uh, no.
24:43I just think sometimes you're a little bit...
24:45What?
24:45You just rush.
24:47You're like, don't stress, and then, oh, don't rush, or rush, or...
24:50I'm saying don't stress.
24:52And with time running out, the tensions are once again starting to show.
24:58Obviously, we're in the final week now.
25:00It's even more serious than it was last week.
25:03There's so much at stake.
25:04They've only got less than 24 hours to prove themselves.
25:10Not everyone can deal with guests.
25:12Not everyone can deal with the pressure.
25:25It's late afternoon at the Prize B&B,
25:28where Brett and Nicole are welcoming the judges.
25:31How are you?
25:33I'm good.
25:34Good.
25:34Good.
25:35You all right?
25:36Tonight, the judges are staying over so they can get the full guest experience.
25:41I think with a bed and breakfast, particularly,
25:43the personality, the authenticity of your hosts is vital.
25:49It's the key ingredient.
25:50You know, we've seen the brand-in.
25:53We've seen the cooking.
25:55I now want to see what they are like as hosts.
26:00Oh, this is lovely.
26:01Yeah, that's great.
26:01So, you're staying in dreaming this evening.
26:04Fantastic.
26:05Obviously, the bathroom's in here,
26:07and that's all got your toiletries and everything in.
26:09And if you need a demonstration on how to use a shower,
26:11I can show you how to turn it on, but not wash yourself.
26:18I'm really looking forward to sitting down to dinner with them
26:20because I want communication.
26:24I want to see how much they're willing to give of themselves.
26:27I just want the heart now.
26:30So, Ava, you're going to be staying in our tucked away room for this evening.
26:36And, Nicola, you will be in residence or stargazing.
26:39Oh, thank you.
26:42Wow.
26:44When night is dressed in diamonds bright,
26:47the sky sings softly through the night.
26:50Beneath this quiet, gentle sky,
26:53let your dreams like stars drift by.
26:57I like that.
26:58It's a very gentle reading.
27:01I'll see you down there.
27:03OK, settle in, Will.
27:04OK, thank you.
27:06When they were in the heats,
27:11they were quite stressed out, I think.
27:13And Brett, in particular,
27:16looks much more placid and calm here than he did.
27:22Come in.
27:24Hello.
27:24Hi again.
27:25Come in.
27:26Ava, I'm just seeing if you've settled in well.
27:29Yes, I've seen all your little touches.
27:31I'm amazed with how quickly you do things.
27:34It's like you've got an army of little elves behind you helping,
27:37you know.
27:38There's a nice link between everything
27:39with the lavender theme, the lavender cushion,
27:41the lavender little pouch, the soap,
27:44the actual lavender and everything.
27:45Just a sense of calmness for our guests.
27:48See you soon.
27:50Thanks.
27:52Do you think the check-in went well then?
27:53Yeah, I thought it was really good.
27:56It is going to be a chance for them
27:57to really get to know us, though.
27:59Yeah.
27:59So our personalities are really going to have to shine.
28:01As well as lavender and poems,
28:05Nicole and Brett are hoping to win over the judges
28:07with a welcome gift of chai tea and biscuits.
28:12Hi, Ed.
28:13Whoa.
28:14Hello.
28:14Wow.
28:15So we've got a bit of chai tea here for you to try.
28:18It's only a bit because we don't want you to spoil your dinner.
28:22Oh.
28:23There we go.
28:24Very good.
28:25They're locally sourced French butter shortbread biscuits
28:29and, of course, I thought I'll get a personalised residence art.
28:40As Nicole and Brett complete their check-in,
28:44Justin and Paul are working on their business plan
28:46and, today, they're heading to a B&B
28:49where they're sure to be inspired.
28:52We'll just have to bombard them with questions, won't we?
28:57This is Chez Jalot,
28:59a five-bedroom B&B where style is top of the agenda.
29:07It's run by Brits Heidi and Anthony,
29:10who moved here in 2015.
29:12Wow.
29:18Amazing.
29:19Look at the shutters.
29:20Hello.
29:20Really pretty.
29:22Hello.
29:23Hello.
29:23Hello.
29:24Hi.
29:25Nice to meet you.
29:26Hi.
29:27Welcome to Chez Jalot.
29:28I'm Justin.
29:29Hi, I'm Heidi.
29:31Anthony.
29:31Nice to meet you, Anthony.
29:32Justin.
29:32Oh, Anthony.
29:33Would you like to come in?
29:34Yes, please.
29:35Very lovely.
29:40OK, this is your room.
29:41This is a Jalot suite.
29:43Oh, lovely.
29:45So, we have a king-sized bed.
29:46Amazing.
29:48And then we have the ensuite through here.
29:51Oh, my gosh.
29:52It's amazing.
29:53It's a nice, large ensuite for you.
29:55It's bigger than our first flat.
29:58We'll let you settle in.
29:59All right, thank you.
30:00Thanks.
30:00Thanks.
30:03Wow, so nice.
30:05Yeah.
30:05Isn't it?
30:06Finishing everything, isn't it?
30:07Yeah, brilliant.
30:08The really nice artwork.
30:09Beautiful furniture.
30:10Yeah.
30:11Yeah.
30:11Comfy bed.
30:12Yeah.
30:13It'd be good to see the rest of the house, though, isn't it?
30:15Yeah, it'd be fun to see the rest of it.
30:17It's so good.
30:17They've got really nice, like, interior styling.
30:20Yeah.
30:20They've got really nice, yeah, really nice taste.
30:22Sympathetic to the house.
30:23Yeah.
30:23Meanwhile, Michelle and Steve are also out and about getting inspiration for their dream
30:36B&B.
30:37They've arrived at the Trimolet Blueberry Farm.
30:41Bonjour.
30:42Bonjour.
30:42Bonjour.
30:42Bonjour.
30:42We're all excited.
30:44We're all excited.
30:45Where their guide, Orianne, and her family harvest the fruit from over 30,000 trees.
30:53This time in the morning, normally, I'd be out in my van, because I'm a builder.
30:58But I prefer to be walking in the field, looking at blueberries.
31:01Yes, very nice.
31:02And I love the whole lifestyle of it all.
31:04Michelle and Steve are going to pick their own.
31:07Would you like to take?
31:09Oh, yes, please.
31:11Yeah.
31:12Oh.
31:13Oh.
31:14Oh.
31:15Beautiful.
31:16So maybe you can try to pick now.
31:19Are you ready?
31:20Always ready.
31:21Born ready.
31:25Can you eat as many as you like?
31:27We ask a picker to do at least four kilos in one hour.
31:31Are you having a laugh?
31:32We have people from 16 to 60.
31:37Right.
31:38And mostly the more quicker and who are doing the better job is the old one.
31:44Oh, really?
31:45Yeah.
31:45Yeah, because we're used to grafting.
31:47That's what it is.
31:48So when I left school and I was 16, I went to a sewing factory.
31:51The more you did, the more money you got.
31:53That's what you call grafting, that piecework.
31:56You have a laugh.
31:57Yeah, I do have a laugh.
31:58Yeah.
31:58I'm quicker than him.
31:59He's always been slow.
32:00Can I tee your mouth?
32:01No.
32:02No.
32:02No.
32:02No.
32:07The farm also has its own shop.
32:10Wow.
32:11Where jam is a speciality.
32:14Be very careful with you.
32:15Yeah, thank you.
32:20You and...
32:21I don't know how you missed your mouth.
32:23I knew you could have said that.
32:24I can't believe you missed him out.
32:26Oh, my word, that's lovely.
32:29That's really nice.
32:30It's fresh.
32:32The taste is amazing.
32:33Yes.
32:34And the price is really good.
32:36So, you know what?
32:37This is what we want to give our guest.
32:41We will absolutely be sourcing stuff from this farm.
32:44When we win the prize home, we will be back.
32:49Yes.
32:49This has been absolutely amazing.
32:52And hopefully, you'll have us back to come and buy some produce from you.
32:55Back at the B&B, it's now make or break time for Nicole and Brett.
33:05Brett, are you not writing bon appetit?
33:08Yeah, I'll get the chalk.
33:10Remember, it's the small touches.
33:13Pea.
33:14Two peas, one pea.
33:17Hey, guys.
33:18Hey, yeah.
33:19Smells lovely in here.
33:20Good.
33:21Nice one.
33:22Yous are in for a treat.
33:25I'm sure.
33:26Are you ready for dinner?
33:27Yes, absolutely.
33:28Absolutely.
33:29We'll take you through to the table.
33:31You sit down.
33:31All right, thank you.
33:32Oh, I'm intrigued and excited.
33:34Oh, yous are in for a treat.
33:36Enjoy.
33:37Oh, wow.
33:39Ah.
33:41Is there a seating plan?
33:44That's best.
33:45We have a menu as well.
33:50In the heat week, we did hear Nicole shouting at Brett for not doing a certain thing fast enough, etc, etc.
33:56So the stress was showing.
34:00Do you look stressed?
34:02My goodness.
34:03Oh, I'm smiling.
34:05Saag pork curry.
34:06Tender pork cooked slowly in spinach and tomato-based sauce.
34:11It's a bit spicy.
34:12Oh, it's not.
34:14There's some kick to it.
34:14I hope it's just not too hot.
34:17My message would be to be yourselves.
34:20Don't try to be something else.
34:23Coriander, just the tiniest bit on.
34:26I think they need to soften the approach, little bit.
34:29Here we go, guys.
34:30Dinner is served.
34:32If they don't manage to do that this week, there's no room for them to move forward in competition.
34:44At the prize B&B, it's time for Nicole and Brett to prove they have the hosting skills to stay in the running.
34:57These are some krakoras.
35:00Wow.
35:00Wow.
35:01Okay.
35:01Just be very careful.
35:03I am first aid train, though, so...
35:05Looks amazing.
35:08It smells amazing.
35:09It does smell really good.
35:10And it's so nice to have such a nice little selection going on.
35:14I think I might have to turn this round, actually.
35:16Yeah, I was going to do the same thing.
35:17Because otherwise I'll spill it all over me.
35:20By eating with the hosts, the judges hope to really get to know each couple so they can decide who is best suited to this life.
35:30And I love your pakora.
35:31So, they were my starter, but I just thought they'll work well with the style.
35:35You might as well have it all at the same time.
35:37Well, I guess I'm going to say cheers to everyone.
35:41Cheers.
35:41Thank you very much.
35:42Cheers.
35:43Thank you all.
35:44Cheers.
35:44And lovely.
35:45Thank you so much.
35:46Hope you enjoy.
35:47This is absolutely delicious.
35:54It's gorgeous.
35:56So, what's your favourite dish to cook?
35:58Mine's actually yellow doll, believe it or not.
36:01This one?
36:01Yeah.
36:02It's one of the best dolls I've ever tasted.
36:05Genuinely.
36:06Brennan, you're not only saying that, are you?
36:08No.
36:08I really love doll.
36:10Oh, very good.
36:12I think my dad will be proud then, eh?
36:14Is it your dad who taught you how to cook then?
36:16Mum and Dad, actually.
36:17Oh, yeah.
36:18Nicole's mum's Irish and her dad's Indian, so there was a dad that taught her mum and then
36:23her mum taught Nicole.
36:25And her mum's actually very, very good at cooking.
36:27And I have to ask the really underlying question is, if you don't win the composition, would you
36:33still want to pursue something like this?
36:36Absolutely.
36:36100%.
36:37100%.
36:37100%.
36:38So, initially, I thought, rural, oh, God, it's going to be one house in the fields and
36:43no neighbours, but look what you have outside.
36:45I've always looked at Nicole's mum and dad and they've worked together for years and I've
36:49always thought, oh, I couldn't do that. But coming here and being with Nicole and actually
36:53doing this, I actually thought, yeah, we could do it.
36:55I feel more connected to Brett having that time with him, to be honest. And I guess he does
37:02calm me down when I'm in a little bit of a stress mode. So, is everyone finished?
37:07Yeah, delicious.
37:09Clean plate skin.
37:10Yeah, I could eat it again.
37:12Oh!
37:13I can give you a doggy bag.
37:15There's some more in there, so we'll clear the table and get dessert going.
37:23Meanwhile, an hour away at Chez Jelot...
37:28Hello.
37:29The dogs really make it, don't they?
37:32Justin and Paul are about to have dinner with their hosts and want to know how this income
37:37stream could help their own B&B.
37:45So, tonight we have a creamy lemon and thyme chicken with Bombay carrot ribbons.
37:53Then we have a wild rice which has roasted peppers, some mint, basil and parsley.
38:01Then we have balsamic and soy beans with tomatoes and coriander.
38:07Looks lovely.
38:08Lovely.
38:09OK, enjoy.
38:10Thank you so much.
38:11Bon Appetit.
38:13Do you think that's what sets you apart, the fact that you guys are serving food?
38:17Because I feel like in the UK, the bed and breakfast arena is not really evening meal.
38:24No, you're right.
38:25I think obviously a tablodote, which is what we are, it is known that the hosts will eat
38:30with the guests.
38:31It's a selling point because we're a little bit more remote, so it stops them having
38:36to worry about where to eat that evening.
38:39Yeah.
38:41Well, this was so delicious.
38:42Thank you so much for dinner.
38:43It was such a treat, wasn't it, Jess?
38:44Yeah.
38:45Thank you so much.
38:46Our pleasure.
38:47Good night.
38:48Good night.
38:50Sleep well.
38:52We will.
38:53While Justin and Paul are ready to turn in, Nicole and Brett are still under the judges'
39:02scrutiny.
39:06OK, guys.
39:07Ooh, this is galab jam.
39:09OK, so these are deep-fried milk dough balls.
39:14I love you.
39:16Thank you very much.
39:17Thank you very much.
39:21They are so good.
39:23They remind me of, well, I guess that baklava-y kind of element of honey-soaked syrup-soaked
39:31stuff.
39:32It's fabulous.
39:33They're like doughnuts soaked in sugar and syrups.
39:36Mmm.
39:37And the pistachio ice cream is fabulous.
39:39Mm-hmm.
39:40The first time I'd ever tasted one, me and Nicole was doing a dinner party for some friends,
39:45and she sent me to the Asian supermarket, and she said, you're going to get some galab jam.
39:49And I was like, you're talking gibberish.
39:50What?
39:51What even is that?
39:52I was running around the Asian supermarket, and I'd never been in there before before.
39:56I was like, what is galab jam?
39:57How do you even spell it?
39:58I didn't even know what I was looking for.
40:00These little sweet dough balls.
40:02They work really well.
40:03Mmm.
40:04Very good.
40:05They work really well.
40:06Mmm.
40:07As the sun begins to cast long shadows on day two of finals week, all three sets of
40:14hosts are putting their all into winning.
40:17I keep saying that, with as good a chance as anybody else, it is a competition.
40:21The problem is, we don't know what the others are doing, and that's it.
40:26I need to stop thinking about them.
40:27Concentrating us.
40:28Concentrating us.
40:29Concentrating us.
40:30How is the bed, for one?
40:33I'll be fine here, you've got the couch.
40:36Let's get a blueberry.
40:39Yeah.
40:40And let's do a cheers.
40:41Yeah, cheers.
40:42Cheers.
40:43Aren't we supposed to eat each other's?
40:45Isn't that like what young'uns do?
40:47No.
40:48But now it's time to find out if Nicole and Brett have done enough.
40:57It really was delicious.
40:58Well done.
40:59Yeah.
41:00I'm grabbing that wine.
41:01That's about you.
41:02With the clean plates, it was just like, wow, we actually are quite good.
41:07And taking the compliments on board, and one day, who knows, if we'll get the keys, we
41:12could turn this place into a lovely restaurant.
41:14It was good to have them conversations with the judges and really feel like they are, you
41:21know, they're really interested in you as people and what you could bring to this business.
41:27There's nothing more they can do today, and their fate is in the hands of the judges.
41:33So, we had our second check-in of this finals week with Nicole and Brett.
41:39It was faultless.
41:43It was faultless.
41:44Yeah, it was.
41:45From start to finish, perfect for me.
41:48And different.
41:49Very different.
41:50It's something that the restaurants just across the road doesn't offer.
41:53So, in terms of a business plan, she would be adding something to the local area.
41:57Absolutely.
41:58The dichotomy I've got is that spending time with Roy and Nicola, last night and today,
42:04was that I felt they revealed themselves instantly.
42:08We ask a lot of questions, sometimes, you know, in order to just provoke conversation.
42:14Running a B&B is a huge social skill, and it's probably underestimated a lot of the time.
42:22But it's terribly important.
42:24But I don't expect I have to work hard to draw out a host if I'm staying in a B&B.
42:32I expect them to reveal themselves and to be interested in me a bit.
42:38Last night was just easy.
42:40It felt like we were staying with relatives in a way.
42:42Yeah, absolutely.
42:43Joviality, bubbliness, warmth.
42:45Easier conversation, not quite such exciting food.
42:48Tonight, very exciting food, slightly less exciting conversation.
42:53So, actually, almost the inverse of what you expect from each situation.
42:56Yeah, yeah.
42:57In a way.
42:58We've given them lots of hints about opening up tonight.
43:01They know that they have 24 hours with us to show this.
43:06So, breakfast will be very interesting.
43:09They have great warmth.
43:11They're sweet.
43:12They're very sweet.
43:14But that's not enough.
43:17The judges want Nicole and Brett to open up more.
43:21And tomorrow is their last opportunity.
43:24We're just nearly, nearly there.
43:26So, tomorrow we need to nail it.
43:28Tomorrow I'm really looking forward to, because it's just going to be hosting, but in a different setting.
43:33And, you know, on our activity, you know, yeah, I'll 100% be in my element.
43:37I'm fingers crossed, because honestly, the keys belong in our hands.
43:42Really, we've only seen a tiny element of what they have to offer, because it's breakfast, and then really, in a way, the biggest thing, which is them hosting an excursion with us.
43:54A day out with the judges.
43:57I'm really looking forward to a good night's sleep in this beautiful, beautiful home, which will soon be an act of bed and breakfast.
44:05Yeah.
44:06Bonsoir, Cherie.
44:07Bonsoir.
44:08Bonsoir.
44:09Bonsoir.
44:14Next time...
44:15No, it's not happening.
44:17It's amazing.
44:18As the hosts hit the midway point in finals week...
44:21Honey, I'm home!
44:23Competition at the B&B is more intense than ever.
44:27There's no oats in this bread, are there?
44:29I actually couldn't tell you.
44:30Underwhelming.
44:31Mmm.
44:32It's all that.
44:33Don't panic, just step aside.
44:35And the judges crank up the pressure.
44:38I felt that I was at a corporate event.
44:40There's just something missing.
44:42It's not over yet.
44:43Yeah.
44:44No.
44:45That's on the slide.
44:46We hope to have more infinite capacity requests.
44:47Where are you going?
44:48Okay!
44:50Yeah, our crew.
44:52I'm here.
44:53The Daiwa Lake.
44:54With the уд underestimated.
44:56We'll see you in front of what's youngest!
44:57Here we go.
44:58Yep!
44:59There we go.
45:00There we go!
45:01Hey!
45:02Here we go!
