00:00I didn't picture anything other than blackness,
00:02because I was unconscious every day.
00:04That sounds terrible.
00:06I would have never dated you in college.
00:13I have decided to go in the direction of real estate.
00:17If this doesn't work out, what are you going to do?
00:22Come up with something that you have as a backup plan as well.
00:27Oh my god.
00:29My friend Anita has a daughter
00:30that has autism and Tourette syndrome.
00:33And you remember the link I sent you on the device?
00:37New Pulse.
00:38Kind of like deep brain stimulation, but not invasive.
00:42I think you should explore it.
00:43You got that baby fever going on.
00:45I don't have baby fever.
00:46I just want kids.
00:48Colin's really moving up the timeline here.
00:51I actually have a question for the doctor.
00:54how your medications would work when you're pregnant.
01:01We're not talking about this right now.
01:03You excited to meet Dr. Flaherty?
01:12I am. I'm really excited to meet her.
01:17We're in Boston to meet with my neurologist, Dr. Flaherty.
01:30She's been my regular doctor ever since my parents and I met her last year.
01:34We usually do virtual appointments because Boston's about nine hours away.
01:38But I do want to see her in person because I have some serious concerns.
01:42You have a nine inch penis.
01:44That's a serious concern.
01:46Hopefully she can give us the reel on everything.
01:51Yeah.
01:52I was able to get a couple of days off of work to be able to go with Balin.
01:57Her parents usually go to these appointments, but since we're getting married, I want to
02:02be able to step in and be there for her.
02:05Hello.
02:06I like to usually always have someone come with me to my doctor's appointment because
02:11I always forget something.
02:13It's good to see you.
02:15This is my fiance, Colin.
02:16Hi.
02:17Nice to meet you.
02:18And it's his first time at a doctor's appointment ever.
02:20I've heard a lot of great things about you, so I'm excited.
02:24Dick.
02:26So what's on your mind to talk about?
02:28A lot.
02:30I have several other conditions on top of my Tourette's, including a mood disorder that
02:35can definitely increase my tics.
02:41My doctor prescribed a medication a little while ago that helps with my mood.
02:46However, one of its unfortunate side effects is weight gain.
02:50I know the medicine that you put me on for my mood.
02:54It's been working.
02:55But I also am just concerned with the fact that since I've been on it, I've gained 18 pounds.
03:01Getting on this new mood stabilizer has really, really helped.
03:06But with the wedding coming up and getting some comments online questioning if I'm pregnant
03:12or not, the weight gain has definitely started to affect my mental health.
03:15A lot of the medicines that boost serotonin, it turns out they actually block what are called
03:22satiety receptors in your gut, the things that tell you you're no longer hungry.
03:26So when they're blocked, your brain is getting a message, you're still hungry, you're still hungry.
03:30Wow.
03:31It's a major side effect.
03:32You know, it's not like just cosmetic.
03:34It's important for your health that you can maintain a normal weight.
03:38So, in my mind, the new meds, the GLP-1 agonists, they're the best treatment for it.
03:45GLP-1 agonists are drugs that you take weekly injections and they decrease the brain's desire for food.
03:54That's what I'd recommend is to start one of those meds.
03:57And I can stay on the other meds I like?
03:59Yeah.
04:00Yay!
04:01I'm really glad that I'm able to stay on my existing medication to help with my mood.
04:06Dick!
04:07And ticks.
04:08Hopefully, I'm able with the GLP-1 to lose some weight and regain my confidence back.
04:15How is your physical pain?
04:17Terrible.
04:18Tell me.
04:19I've had numbness.
04:21It's in my pinky and my ring and my thumb.
04:24Mm-hmm.
04:25I think it's from hitting myself when I tick.
04:28I'll hit, like, my chest.
04:31But there'll be times, like, I've hit my head off doors, things like that.
04:36I like to either smack it back against walls or hit tables with the front of my head.
04:41Uh-huh.
04:42Yeah, yeah.
04:43My motor tics cause me so much pain and exhaust me.
04:48Just moving my neck casually really hurts when you do it 300 times a day.
04:54When Baylin's dealing with her motor tics, literally, you just have to, like, sit there and make sure that she doesn't really hurt herself.
05:03But it is hard to sit by and watch.
05:06Watch that tic reel in that tic .
05:09So one thing I can tell you pretty certainly is that the hand tingling problem that you're having is not from hitting your head.
05:15That is something that's, if you're gaining weight and you're also getting, like, puffy skin from it being hot and, you know, you've got fluid, extra swelling in your skin, that can make those nerves pinch.
05:25Huh.
05:26That's a relief.
05:27Yeah.
05:28I want to ask you about something else I heard about.
05:30There's this device, um, called NuPulse.
05:33Mm-hmm.
05:34I know it's a non-invasive device that you wear that helps your tics.
05:39Yeah, so, um, there's not that much known about it, but it's doing it through electrical stimulation and it seems to quiet things down a little bit, so.
05:48Have you read into any of the clinical studies that they've done?
05:51A little bit, yes.
05:53And, um, it seemed like it had a significant effect, like, they were reasonable papers.
05:57Uh, it seemed like it's pretty safe.
05:59And is it specifically for, like, your motor tics or will it also help your vocal tics as well?
06:06I don't think so, but why not try it?
06:09I could be so wrong.
06:10You know, maybe it would help the hitting tics.
06:12Mm-hmm.
06:13That would be good.
06:14That's what we were hoping.
06:15The NuPulse bracelet is different from deep brain stimulation, which we decided wasn't going to be helpful for her.
06:21It doesn't require surgery. It's something you just put on your wrist.
06:24Mm-hmm.
06:26For someone with bad tics, if NuPulse helps those tics, it can be life-changing. They'll go out more. They can do more activities. They may not injure themselves as often.
06:36Well, I would love to try this device.
06:39Yeah.
06:40It's not available here. If you did want to try it, you'd have to go to the UK, I'm afraid.
06:45Yeah.
06:46We're definitely going to have to, like, talk about it.
06:51Yeah.
06:52Um, okay, so I'll prescribe that GLP-1 agonist, and we can talk about how to administer it.
06:59I actually do have one more question. Um, if we plan on having a family and having kids, the medications that she's on right now, how is that going to affect her during pregnancy if she would have to get off of any or get on new ones?
07:15Um, it's definitely something we can talk about and think a lot about, but the meds that you're on, I think, are okay.
07:25Okay.
07:26Um, no more baby questions.
07:29Baylen had said that she's done having the conversation about kids, but I wasn't bringing it up to her. I was bringing it up to the doctor. And it wasn't about kids. It was about being pregnant. So, a little bit different.
07:46Oh, yeah. Huge difference. Huge. Sometimes it's just like, no means no. Are you ready?
07:55Yeah, I'm ready to go.
07:56Okay. Okay. Thank you so much.
07:58Yeah, thank you.
07:59Yeah, it's great to see you both.
08:00It was nice to meet you.
08:01Bye.
08:02I know.
08:03It was really nice to be a part of Baylen's neurologist appointment. It was really cool to learn the ins and outs, and I would love to be able to come to more of these appointments.
08:18Glad we stopped and got these umbrellas in case it rains.
08:21Yeah, because it does look like it is about to rain. Very, I can take it.
08:26Sweet. Thank you.
08:27Very pretty city, though.
08:28It is.
08:29You wanna just chill right here and take in this view?
08:32I'd love to.
08:33Piece of .
08:34Bald bitch.
08:35Do the bald people have to stand right there?
08:37Bald bitch.
08:38Oh, my God.
08:39Damn.
08:40He has the biggest mustache I've ever seen in my entire life.
08:43That's a squirrel.
08:44Oh, my God.
08:45When I take at random strangers, it can feel annoying.
08:51You little wanker.
08:52You little wanker.
08:53And all Nantucket, they are wankers.
08:56Nantucket?
08:57Nantucket.
08:58There's a boat over there that says Nantucket. What do you want me to do? Everything's in my peripheral. Everybody's screwed right now.
09:06But, like, sometimes you just can't help it. Sometimes it's just like, what the do we have going on here?
09:11I really like Alice. She's really smart.
09:16She's heard about New Pulse. Isn't that exciting?
09:18It's really nice that she is saying, hey, it's not gonna hurt, right? But then there's also, like, the flip side of it is like...
09:24It's not gonna hurt, but you gotta go all the way to the UK.
09:26Yeah.
09:27It's starting to rain.
09:29All right.
09:30Oh, there are minis.
09:31Oh, all right.
09:33I feel like I'm in the UK right now.
09:35Hello.
09:36Hello.
09:37I'll be speaking in a British accent the entire time we're over there if we go.
09:40Yeah.
09:41But in reality, hopping on a plane and leaving tomorrow isn't, like, our best bet with wedding planning and saving money.
09:50Devices that can help reduce tics don't come around often.
09:54But money isn't the only obstacle with a trip like this.
09:58You're winning!
09:59Mother .
10:00I have never gone to that part of the world, so who really knows how my tics will be triggered there.
10:06Plus, Colin's gonna have to get time off of work.
10:08I'm gonna have to get a passport.
10:10And there is my struggle with plane travel.
10:15I'm worried about the flight.
10:16Like, whenever I navigate the airport is when I'm the most anxious.
10:20Yeah.
10:21And it's not-
10:22For me, I'm anxious when we take off.
10:24But also, I don't like the idea of flying over water the entire time.
10:29So you're actually more nervous than me to fly.
10:32Yeah.
10:33Do you know how many planes go missing just poof when they're flying over water?
10:37I don't like that.
10:38Why are we talking about this right now?
10:40I'm just saying.
10:41You're not helping my anxiety at all.
10:43Well, that's where my anxiety is.
10:44Okay, that's great.
10:45Suck it back in.
10:46I've known that Colin has flight anxiety.
10:49It's not new to me.
10:50Because when me and Colin took a trip to LA, Colin's anxiety on that flight was terrible.
10:56Yeah, but I feel like I can hold myself together to the point where I'm not making Balen's anxiety, like, really bad.
11:03But, I mean, at the end of the day, I'm still going to have anxiety about it.
11:06Like, that's literally how planes go missing.
11:09They crash on the water.
11:10Here we go.
11:11Here we go.
11:12Here we go.
11:13You can't even hold it together right now.
11:16Oh, my God.
11:18Anyway, we still haven't even heard back about our budget regarding the wedding.
11:22So, I mean, I think it would be kind of irrational to go ahead and fly over to the UK.
11:27Oh, yeah, completely.
11:28I know.
11:29And I don't think...
11:30I just think that I'm going to bring it up to my mom, let her know about how the conversation went, her and my dad.
11:34Yeah.
11:35Because they would know best.
11:37And just kind of see what their advice and what they would kind of say to go from there.
11:42Yeah.
11:43It's fine with me.
11:45If this device actually works for Balen, it would be a complete game changer for her.
11:51But taking a trip to the UK is not the most realistic thing to do right now.
11:58Eat a bag of debts.
12:00There's really not a safe place on a golf course around Balen.
12:06Just tap it in.
12:08Miss it, bitch.
12:10Hmm.
12:11Hmm.
12:12It was a really good trip.
12:14Did you bring up the new pulse to her?
12:17Yes, I did.
12:18And she gave it a go.
12:19I don't think I realized how much I actually want this until this moment.
12:38Me and Colin got back from Boston yesterday and I'm at my parents to pick up the dogs because my parents were pet sitting.
12:45But first, my brothers offered to help me with a little problem I have.
12:49Okay.
12:50Who's helping me?
12:51Hey, bae.
12:52What's up?
12:53I'm going golfing with Colin and I need help with my swing.
12:56Colin's meeting up with an old friend later this week and we'll be playing golf with him.
13:01I'm not good.
13:02I probably need the most help with driving.
13:07Back.
13:09I don't want to get hit in the teeth.
13:11In the past, my tics have definitely interfered with me golfing.
13:14I've thrown the club a couple times.
13:15I like to eat the ball, throw the ball.
13:17No, I just shoot it out.
13:18Mm-hmm.
13:19Isn't it supposed to be like a fist away?
13:20Fist away?
13:21I don't know.
13:22Don't you guys golf?
13:23Yeah, but I just go up there and hit.
13:24I'm naturally good at everything I do.
13:25Congrats.
13:26I'm not.
13:27So am I, by the way.
13:28No, you're not.
13:29Holy .
13:30Damn.
13:31This is going to hit me on the golf course.
13:32All right, babe, let me see that club.
13:33You could learn from the best over here.
13:34Back there, who's the best golfer in the family?
13:35Um, probably Sven.
13:36Sven.
13:37This one's for a scholarship.
13:38Yeah.
13:39Yeah.
13:40Oh, man.
13:41Oh, man.
13:42Oh, man.
13:43Oh, man.
13:44Oh, man.
13:45Oh, man.
13:46Oh, man.
13:47Oh, man.
13:48Oh, man.
13:49Oh, man.
13:50Oh, man.
13:51Oh, man.
13:52Oh, man.
13:53Oh, man.
13:54Oh, man.
13:55Oh, man.
13:56Oh, man.
13:57Oh, man.
13:58You don't know what you're talking all about.
14:00Oh, good shot.
14:03Holy .
14:04I'm going over here to hit it now.
14:05What does it take to be a good golfer?
14:07Endurance.
14:08Endurance.
14:09Confidence.
14:10What?
14:11You swing one club, and then you just pick up and walk.
14:13That's not endurance.
14:14Yeah, but you've got to do the same thing for the next time,
14:17and it has to be just as good.
14:20So consistency, not endurance.
14:23Same thing.
14:24What does endurance mean?
14:25I don't know.
14:28There it is.
14:29That's a good shot.
14:30That's a good hit.
14:31Sweet.
14:32There we go.
14:33You all have a good night and a good day.
14:35I'm out.
14:42We know.
14:43I'm literally going to hurt you.
14:46Is that poison ivy?
14:47No.
14:48It's shiny.
14:49Okay.
14:50There are wider leaves around.
14:51There's three.
14:52Okay.
14:53Hi.
14:54What are you?
14:55What are you doing?
14:56Your mother's learning about yard care.
14:59Yep.
15:00Make sure that's closed.
15:01Oh, my goodness.
15:02Hi, everybody.
15:03Do I look heavier?
15:04Hi, everybody.
15:05And snacks.
15:06Thank you guys for watching them.
15:10Hey.
15:11Cool.
15:12Cool.
15:13It was a really good trip.
15:14Not going to lie.
15:15What did you learn with, like, your medicine and the unintended weight gain?
15:22Yes, and she told me that everyone that experiences this specific type of side effect with this specific type of medicine, she prescribes a GLP-1.
15:32Oh.
15:33And I'm like, okay, sick. Give me it.
15:36In the past, Balin has actually stopped taking certain medications because they've caused her to gain weight.
15:42So I'm essentially comfortable with Balin taking this GLP-1 because she can stay on the mood stabilizer, which is actually working, that she needs to stay on.
15:53More importantly, what I'm aching to get to, is did you bring up the new pulse to her?
15:59Yes, I did.
16:00And she gave it a go.
16:01Like a go-go?
16:03Like, she's looked at clinical studies, she's read things, and dick, and then Tuckett, they all wankers.
16:09I picked that up in Boston.
16:10What's a wanker?
16:11Masturbator.
16:12Oh, my God, help us.
16:15Gosh.
16:19What?
16:20What?
16:21I love it.
16:22I'm, like, numb to the idea of, like, all her tics at this point. Like, nothing's off limits. Just nothing.
16:30Okay, anyways, moving on. So she's basically, like, give it a go.
16:35Give it a go, except for it's in the UK. So I'd love to go.
16:41But, like, with wedding planning right now, it's just not in our budget. It's just not.
16:46Hmm.
16:47I tend to be the person pushing Balin to explore new treatments, but I do realize a trip like this could be very challenging.
16:58There's money issues, the logistics of the airport, the length of the flight, and that's if Colin can get the time off work.
17:05So did you ever say anything to Colin about the possibility that's happening and, like, who would even go?
17:13Well, I would think you and Colin, right?
17:15Well, speaking of Colin, that man's got flight anxiety.
17:18He has flight anxiety? Oh, wow, this is the blind leading the blind.
17:21He needs to be dosed up.
17:22He needs to be dosed up.
17:23This is, okay, there's lots of...
17:25No, there's some things where I'm, like, that's not helping my anxiety, babe. That's not helping it.
17:31I didn't know that about him.
17:33Mm-hmm. Oh, my gosh.
17:34That's fantastic.
17:35Maybe it's just a long flight that he's worried about at an ocean or something.
17:38Could be. Yeah.
17:39But I don't know. I wouldn't join the Navy if I didn't like boats.
17:42I feel so bad for him, but it's like, oh, my gosh, how is this gonna work?
17:47Because she needs a lot of help when she's traveling.
17:52It's a really cool device. It would be really awesome if we'd be able to get over there.
17:55To be able to, like, see in that moment how much it helps and how much it doesn't.
18:00Oh, it would be, like, the opportunity of a lifetime.
18:03Yeah.
18:06I don't think I realize how much I actually want this until this moment.
18:12The device is not available in the U.S. yet, but maybe it will be here before my wedding,
18:17which is, like, ten months away.
18:19It would be extremely uncomfortable and painful to feel like I have to hold my own tics in on my wedding day.
18:25So I would really like to try it as soon as possible.
18:29Finding out now that it works for me could really ease my anxiety.
18:33But there's a lot of obstacles standing in the way.
18:36I just don't want to get, like, all my hopes up.
18:39I have a gun.
18:44Does it have to be on the front?
18:46Woo-hoo!
18:47Woo-hoo!
18:48You're bald, sir.
18:49Woo!
18:50Well, I totally get why she wants to go.
18:52Why would we leave any stone unturned at this point?
18:55I have been the one encouraging Balin to check out New Pulse.
19:00And I believe it's still worth exploring.
19:02Financially, their wedding's their top priority right now.
19:05You think that they're not going to go?
19:07Yeah.
19:08And I don't want that to happen.
19:22Hey, bitch.
19:28Even though we don't know if we're going to London yet to try the new Pulse device,
19:32I don't want the fact that I don't have a passport to get in the way of that.
19:36Especially since they can take a while to get.
19:38So I decided to take a rideshare today to the closest passport office to get my passport.
19:44I have a gun.
19:46Oh, my God.
19:47Does it have to be on the front?
19:49I have a gun.
19:50Oh, my God.
19:51Unfortunately, the passport office is inside a library.
19:52Silence is a huge trigger for my tics.
19:53Woo-hoo!
19:54Woo-hoo!
19:55I also try to avoid museums, movie theaters, churches, anywhere quiet, basically.
20:13You can catch me not there.
20:16Oh, your nails are so pretty.
20:17Oh, thank you.
20:18Are you here for passports?
20:19Yes, I am here for passports.
20:21Perfect.
20:22Okay.
20:23Do you have your picture ID on you?
20:28Let's see.
20:29Oh, no!
20:32The woman that I'm talking to doesn't react to my tics at all, which is really relieving.
20:37If I'm around somebody that doesn't know what Tourette's is, I never know how they will react,
20:42whether laughing, staring, or not knowing what to say.
20:46I have a gun.
20:47Okay.
20:48Let me go make some copies, okay?
20:49Okay, sweet.
20:52Woo-hoo!
20:53Woo-hoo!
20:54You're bald.
20:55Sir.
20:56Bitch.
20:57Bitch.
20:58Why don't go to the libraries?
21:01I'm the loudest person in here.
21:05I'm using my SEBA technique, which is deep breathing and masking.
21:09I like whispering as my favorite masking technique.
21:12I'm going to take your picture, okay?
21:15Do you mind if you give me a countdown before just because I have Tourette's Syndrome?
21:19Yeah, of course.
21:20So it's hard for me to all just make faces the entire time.
21:23Yeah, of course.
21:24Okay, sweet.
21:25I have a gun.
21:28I don't.
21:29You ready?
21:30Mm-hmm.
21:31Three, two, one.
21:34Perfect.
21:35Sweet.
21:36Now you can come back over here, okay?
21:38Okay.
21:39My tics were pretty typical today compared to other trips to the library.
21:43Perfect.
21:44Okay.
21:45So, um...
21:47I did break your pen.
21:49That's okay.
21:50Okay.
21:51Who really knows when I'll be able to use this passport, but this is just one more step on my path to adulting.
21:57All right.
21:58And with that, you are all done.
22:01Thank you so much.
22:02You're welcome.
22:03Have a lovely day.
22:04Thank you, you too.
22:05Ooh.
22:06Ooh.
22:07Ooh.
22:08Ooh.
22:09Ooh.
22:10I have a gun.
22:13God, get me out of here.
22:16We'll never be back.
22:18Just kidding.
22:19I'll do well with kids.
22:20That'll be fun.
22:21.
22:22.
22:23Them kids.
22:24Did you get Balen's text?
22:41No.
22:42She got her passport today.
22:44Oh, my gosh.
22:45She didn't waste any time.
22:48Okay.
22:49Well, that's good.
22:50I'm sure it's not an easy process for her
22:53to go do that,
22:54especially if she had to go do it by herself.
22:56A couple days ago,
22:58Balen's neurologist gave her the go-ahead
23:00to try the New Pulse device,
23:03but it's in England.
23:04The fact that Balen went and got her passport
23:07kind of speaks volumes about her ambition
23:11to really want to figure something out.
23:14Well, I totally get why she wants to go.
23:16Heck, I want her to go.
23:17Why would we leave any stone unturned at this point, right?
23:21We've come this far.
23:22Well, financially,
23:23their wedding to them is their top priority right now.
23:26So you think that they're not going to go?
23:29Yeah.
23:30And I don't want that to happen.
23:32I'm in the way for...
23:35I mean, I'm willing to throw some of our money at this
23:39to make this happen right away.
23:41Yeah, I would love to be able to take that burden
23:45out of the equation for Bae and Colin.
23:49But I don't know.
23:50There's so many what-ifs and ambiguity to it, too.
23:54Even if it works,
23:55it's not like you can even leave there with it.
23:57So that's where I'm like,
23:58that's where the balancing comes in.
23:59It's like, you have to weigh it.
24:01Like, you have other kids and family to worry about.
24:03And I know that her health
24:04is still a priority in our lives.
24:07But you still have to objectively stand back and say,
24:11could the good here outweigh the bad?
24:14I have been the one encouraging Balin to check out New Pulse,
24:20and I believe it's still worth exploring.
24:22But I have to remind myself
24:23that we are a one-income household,
24:25and we do have five other children that we support.
24:30I mean, over the years,
24:32to help Balin with her care,
24:34the sacrifices that we've made...
24:36Are endless.
24:37It's uncountable, honestly.
24:40Sometimes the other kids have kind of went without.
24:43But on the flip side,
24:46she has such strong tics and loud tics.
24:50Quite honestly, her Tourette
24:51has stripped her of the experiences
24:55that some of us take for granted,
24:58like church and the movies
24:59and quiet place experiences,
25:02because she feels like a social outcast.
25:06Even if Balin can't bring the device home with her,
25:09the intrinsic reward of it
25:11is knowing that it would provide her hope if it worked.
25:15There's no means that I wouldn't go to
25:17to provide my kid with that.
25:20I just think,
25:22you want to go to bed every night
25:23for the next 10 years
25:26wondering if something would have worked or not?
25:28Or do you want an answer?
25:29Of course I want an answer.
25:31And to be honest,
25:32I kind of want to be there for the test.
25:35And I know that they want to kind of
25:37forge their own path together,
25:39but this is completely uncharted territory,
25:42so I would love if she would feel comfortable
25:45for us to experience this together.
25:49But I don't want to feel weird about it,
25:50like, oh, we're inviting ourselves,
25:53like, we're going with you.
25:54Like, sorry, this is a family thing.
25:56I want her to be...
25:57I want her to be...
25:57You have who?
25:58Let's go on a trip there.
26:00Oh.
26:01We make it as a invite to her,
26:05like, hey, we would like to do this for you.
26:08We can even take the boys with us.
26:10Mm-hmm.
26:11Give them an experience.
26:13Hmm.
26:13I love that idea.
26:19If we can figure out how to do it.
26:22If we're going to go big,
26:23we might as well go big.
26:24We have never been to the UK before,
26:26and they've been on Balen's journey with her.
26:29They've been alongside for this whole roller coaster.
26:32And it also provides us a way to support her
26:34because it's so unpredictable.
26:36You have no idea how much stress or anxiety
26:38or how much she's going to hold back her tics,
26:41and then eventually it comes crumbling down
26:43and she can be in the fetal position
26:45and she spends the entire trip trying to recover,
26:48only to get back on a flight and come all the way back.
26:51I mean, it's not just the financial aspect of it.
26:54It's the travel.
26:55Yeah.
26:56I'd rather join them at this point anyways
26:58after hearing that Colin also has some flying anxiety.
27:03Like, the travel piece of it could be a huge hurdle.
27:07Not saying that they couldn't do it together,
27:09but any time that people are willing to support you,
27:12you should welcome that.
27:15All right.
27:17I'm going to, uh, I think it's a go.
27:19Don't put it out there until we know 100% we can make it work
27:22because I don't want to give her any false hope.
27:24Like, you've got to figure out vacation time.
27:26I've got to figure out what works for the boys,
27:28for school, budget.
27:30We have a lot to figure out in order to really
27:32make this come to life.
27:34So I've been planning a major career move
27:42and going into real estate.
27:43More than 80% of people who get their real estate license
27:46stop, you know, in less than five years.
27:49There is so much potential to succeed in this field,
27:52but there's even more potential to fail.
27:54I have a gun.
28:10So I've been planning a major career move
28:16and going into real estate
28:17when I get out of the military.
28:19An old friend of mine, Josh,
28:21is actually in real estate in Myrtle Beach,
28:23and him and his colleague Nick are in town
28:26for some business,
28:27and they invited Balen and I
28:29to come play golf with them.
28:31Oh.
28:32I'm excited, but I'm also very nervous
28:34because this is only my second time
28:36on a real golf course.
28:37Oh.
28:37Compared to, like, mini golf or the range.
28:41Your head's got to be on a swivel.
28:42Actually, there was one time
28:43where me and Colin went to the golfing range,
28:45and he was sitting behind me,
28:47and the ball went backwards and almost hit him.
28:49There's really not a safe place
28:51on a golf course around Balen.
28:54Is there something I should know
28:56before Josh and Nick get here?
28:57Like, is one of them bald?
29:00I don't think so.
29:01Oh, there's Josh.
29:03Hi.
29:04Hi.
29:04Either one of them are bald.
29:06I told you.
29:07What's up, man?
29:08How are you, man?
29:09Good.
29:09How are you?
29:10Good to see you.
29:10Good to see you.
29:11Hi, I'm Josh.
29:11Nice to meet you.
29:12Nice to meet you.
29:14I've known Colin for over 10 years.
29:16I was his youth pastor
29:18when he was in middle school,
29:19and he reached out
29:20knowing that we had our own real estate company.
29:23Let's go play a few holes.
29:24Let's do it.
29:25Awesome.
29:25All right, let's do it.
29:25Roller coaster.
29:32Be careful.
29:33Oh, are we seeing a break?
29:34Oh, oh.
29:35That don't sound good.
29:38We made it across.
29:40Eat a bag of decks.
29:44Oh, we got a beautiful day to golf.
29:46Nice wind.
29:47Yep.
29:47Just tap it in.
29:52Just tap it in.
29:54Miss it, bitch.
29:57I was a little nervous
30:01to meet Vaylin
30:02in person for the first time today
30:03because I have never met
30:04someone with Tourette's.
30:06Yeah, I had not met anyone
30:07with Tourette's before.
30:08So it caught me a little off guard
30:09when Josh first got up there.
30:10What she said on his backswing
30:11was pretty funny,
30:12and I had to hold it in.
30:13Not the laugh.
30:17Get over.
30:18Oh, what a shot.
30:19Nice shot.
30:24Miss it, bitch.
30:27Oh, baby.
30:28I might be on the green.
30:28Good looking ball, too.
30:29Oh, my gosh.
30:31I might be in trouble here.
30:35Miss it, bitch.
30:36Bitch.
30:40That's in the water.
30:42Oh.
30:43Well, there's no pressure on Vaylin.
30:45She can't do worse than Colin.
31:06I'm just going to move up.
31:10Oh, you're close to the fairway now.
31:12Here we go.
31:13Yay.
31:15Oh, my God.
31:16We're going to get there by next year.
31:18Oh, man.
31:22Oh.
31:23Water ball.
31:24That was better contact.
31:25Yep.
31:27Maybe I just need to get a little warmed up,
31:29a little wrist flicking,
31:31making sure the swing is good.
31:32It comes up.
31:34Boom.
31:34Boom.
31:35Boom.
31:35Boom.
31:35Boom.
31:39Yeah.
31:40There you go.
31:41Oh, sweet.
31:41There we go.
31:42There you go.
31:42Keep going, ball.
31:47Just topped it.
31:48Yep.
31:48It's OK.
31:49You want to drive up to my ball?
31:50It's five feet.
31:52Sure.
31:53I'm walking mine off.
31:53Which one?
31:54How do you use this thing now?
31:55What's this for?
31:57It's reverse.
31:57You don't use that.
31:58OK, so all I do is...
31:59The right is gas.
32:00The left is brake.
32:05Wait.
32:06Turn the wheel.
32:06Turn the wheel.
32:07Turn the wheel.
32:07Turn the wheel.
32:08This way?
32:08Yep.
32:09And then press the gas.
32:11There you go.
32:12Now straighten it out.
32:12Straighten it out.
32:14There you go.
32:17Sorry.
32:18I almost took you guys out.
32:19Now press brake.
32:20Press brake.
32:20Press brake.
32:20And then push right here.
32:22Yep.
32:23Push down all the way.
32:24No, I've never driven a golf cart
32:29in my entire life.
32:31It's the same as a car.
32:33I don't drive cars either.
32:36So thank you for that,
32:37but in one year,
32:39out the other.
32:40So how'd you get so good at golf?
32:42He plays every day.
32:44I wish.
32:45Definitely real estate.
32:46You get to play golf,
32:47you know, often.
32:48Josh was telling me
32:49you're thinking about
32:50getting the real estate.
32:51Yeah, I am.
32:51Awesome.
32:52I think what really
32:53intrigues me about it
32:54is like the amount
32:55of success that you have
32:57in real estate
32:58is based off of
32:58the amount of effort
32:59that you put in.
33:00There's no ceiling
33:01where you can make,
33:02but especially in the beginning,
33:03it's a grind.
33:04The top three things
33:05that we see
33:06that attract people
33:06to real estate
33:07are freedom of their time,
33:09unlimited income potential,
33:11and they get to be
33:11their own boss.
33:12But there's a lot
33:12that goes into it.
33:14It is a five or six
33:15day a week job
33:16from day one.
33:19You have to be available,
33:21and that's why
33:21it's really important
33:22that both of you
33:23are on the same page
33:24as well.
33:25He's going to be away
33:26a lot.
33:27He might be on showings,
33:27weekends,
33:28he'll be running open houses,
33:29running outside,
33:30you know,
33:30for phone calls,
33:31different things like that.
33:31So it really helps
33:32if, you know,
33:33you're supportive
33:34with that,
33:35that he's going to be busy
33:35and on his phone a lot,
33:36probably.
33:37Mm-hmm.
33:37It's really important
33:38that you...
33:39Sounds like bulls*** me.
33:40...at well.
33:41Holy s***.
33:42It sounds way longer
33:44than a nine-to-five job.
33:46Colin's been talking
33:47about starting a family soon,
33:49but I don't want
33:51to be alone 24-7
33:53all day,
33:53every day
33:54with an infant.
33:56Yeah,
33:57but even hearing
33:58the nitty-gritty parts
33:59that Josh and Nick
34:00are telling me,
34:01it just comes down
34:03to it being something
34:04of mine,
34:05and I'm putting
34:06all of this hard work
34:09and effort
34:10into my business,
34:12into my name,
34:13and that will give me
34:15a lot of satisfaction
34:16at the end of the day.
34:19It's a lot of work,
34:21and you might show
34:2120 properties
34:22to a couple
34:23over seven days,
34:24and then they choose
34:25to buy in another area.
34:26It's also,
34:27it's tough to kind of
34:28get over,
34:29you know,
34:29you could go three,
34:30six months
34:30without a paycheck.
34:33And, you know,
34:34as a realtor,
34:34you're an independent contractor,
34:36and so health care
34:37can be challenging.
34:39So more than 80%
34:41of people who get
34:42their real estate license
34:43stop, you know,
34:44in less than five years.
34:46Yeah.
34:48If anything,
34:49that statistic
34:49gives me motivation.
34:51Like, I kind of like
34:52when odds are betting
34:53against me
34:53so that I can just
34:54prove people wrong.
34:56Knowing that only
34:5720% of people
34:58in real estate make it
35:00really makes me worried
35:01for Colin
35:01because there is
35:03so much potential
35:04to succeed in this field,
35:05but there's even more
35:06potential to fail.
35:08Also, there is
35:09no health insurance
35:10and no benefits.
35:11My parents
35:12told Colin
35:13that he needs
35:14a backup plan,
35:15and I'm starting
35:15to think he's going
35:16to need a backup plan, too.
35:25Did either one of you guys
35:26have a backup plan?
35:28Not really.
35:29I just said,
35:30I'm going to do this
35:30and make it work,
35:31you know?
35:32I did not either.
35:34You have to be all in.
35:35You know,
35:35it's tough
35:36if you have a side job
35:37or something else.
35:39Like, it has to be
35:40what your priority is.
35:43Yeah.
35:44I know that Alan and Julie
35:46want me to have
35:46a backup plan
35:47going into real estate,
35:48but listening to Josh
35:50and Nick
35:50makes me think
35:51I don't need one.
35:52If I have a backup plan,
35:54it's already introduced...
35:56Backup dick!
35:57Yeah.
35:57I can't let myself
35:59off the hook
36:00in case things get hard.
36:01So that's official, then?
36:02No backup plan?
36:03Yeah, it's official.
36:04You want to be around
36:07the right people,
36:08the right company.
36:09I mean,
36:10we have a great company
36:10that really focuses
36:11on new agents,
36:12you know,
36:12kind of giving you
36:13a blueprint
36:13on how to be successful
36:15in this business,
36:16you know?
36:16Yeah.
36:17You should come down
36:17to Myrtle Beach
36:18to check out our office
36:19and allow us
36:20to be able to introduce you
36:21to some of the agents
36:21and be able to show you
36:22a lot of the training
36:24that takes place
36:25and what a day-to-day
36:27life would look like.
36:29Yeah, we'll have to
36:30figure out a time
36:30for me to come down there.
36:33With everything
36:33that's going on
36:34in our lives right now,
36:35I don't know when
36:36I'll get the opportunity
36:37to go down
36:38to Myrtle Beach,
36:39but it is an amazing offer
36:41and I'm feeling really good
36:42about this opportunity.
36:44I'm glad you are.
36:45All I hear about
36:46is long nights,
36:47hard days,
36:48long hours.
36:50You'll never be home.
36:53Yay.
36:53I'll be out there golfing.
36:56So should we get back
36:58to the game?
36:58Yeah, let's do it.
36:59Sweet.
36:59Awesome.
37:00Oh, we got a couple
37:10missed calls from Alan.
37:13What do you think, Alan?
37:13I've got a couple
37:13missed calls from my dad.
37:15What do you think he wants?
37:16I don't know.
37:16Do you care if we call him?
37:17That's fine.
37:18Okay, sweet.
37:20Oh.
37:21Hey.
37:24What's up, Dad?
37:25I've been talking
37:26with your mom
37:26and I know you guys
37:28are saving for your wedding.
37:31But going to the UK
37:32to try the new Pulse device
37:34is a must.
37:35So we're going to pay
37:36for you to go.
37:38Oh my God, really?
37:39Yeah.
37:40Thank you so much.
37:41It's exciting.
37:42Yeah, thank you guys.
37:44Hello.
37:44Hello.
37:45I'm so excited.
37:46I'm so excited
37:48that my parents
37:49were able to make this work
37:50for me and Colin
37:51and I couldn't be
37:52any more grateful.
37:54There's one more thing.
37:56We're going to go with you
37:57and bring Sven, Vic, and Beckner.
38:00That's kind of cool
38:01that it's going to be
38:02like a little family vacay
38:03mixed with a little
38:04like doctor's appointment.
38:06Well, really the main focus
38:07is for you
38:08and to make you
38:09comfortable traveling.
38:10You don't feel alone
38:12and we don't want to put Colin
38:13in a spot either.
38:15Well, thank you guys
38:15for making a decision
38:16for everyone to go.
38:18It's worth it.
38:18It's just a small investment
38:20in your health.
38:21I love you, Dad.
38:22Thank you so much
38:23for letting us know
38:23the big news.
38:24Bye.
38:25All right.
38:25Bye.
38:26We're going to London.
38:28Yeah, we are.
38:29And I.
38:29Are you excited
38:30for the whole family to go?
38:32Yeah.
38:34I've never flown out
38:35of the country.
38:36Yeah.
38:36So at least they're there
38:37to help us guide us through.
38:39Yeah.
38:40It would have been
38:41a fun trip
38:42for Balin and I
38:44by ourselves.
38:45But it also
38:46would have been
38:47a little bit scary
38:48at the same time
38:49because I haven't been
38:50out of the country
38:51in like 10 years.
38:53She hasn't been
38:54out of the country
38:55and neither one of us
38:56have ever been
38:57to that part
38:58of the world, so.
39:00Do you think
39:00they trust us
39:01to go alone?
39:03I don't know.
39:04That's a question
39:04I was going to ask you.
39:05Like, does your parents not?
39:07Can you stop doing golf
39:08while we're trying
39:09to talk serious right now?
39:10It's making me want to sway.
39:11Okay.
39:12Yeah, that's amazing
39:13that they're offering
39:14to fund it
39:15and, you know,
39:15help us get there,
39:16but does your dad
39:17or parents not trust
39:19me to be able
39:22to handle the health,
39:24you know, appointments,
39:25doctor's appointments?
39:26We're literally
39:27about to be married.
39:29I see where you're
39:31coming from,
39:31but I personally
39:33don't think it has
39:34anything against you
39:35or me.
39:37I just think
39:37they've always been
39:38invested and always
39:40have been there
39:40for my health.
39:42And this is huge.
39:43Like, this is a really,
39:44really big deal
39:45to go there
39:45and try on a device
39:46and see if it works
39:48because this could
39:48be life-changing.
39:50Like, maybe my parents
39:51just want to be there
39:51to suck the s***
39:52to witness that
39:54right there
39:54in front of their eyes.
39:56I can just see it
39:57being a trip
39:58for all of us
39:59to remember.
40:01I'm super grateful
40:02that Alan and Julie
40:03have offered to pay
40:05for this trip to London,
40:07but I can't help
40:08but to feel like
40:08Julie and Alan
40:09don't fully trust me.
40:12It's gonna be
40:12a little upsetting.
40:14Yeah.
40:16We've been dating
40:16for over two years
40:18and I've helped Balen
40:19through some really
40:20tough times,
40:21but even then
40:22it still feels like
40:23no matter what I do,
40:25it's just not
40:26enough for them.
40:28That should be enough.
40:36Going there for a week,
40:37not a month.
40:38We are going
40:39to London, England
40:40and I am so excited.
40:42What are you looking
40:43forward to the most?
40:45Scones?
40:46Tea crumpets?
40:47I was talking about
40:47adventures,
40:48I wasn't talking
40:48about food.
40:50What age can you
40:50get a tattoo
40:51in London?
40:52This is gonna be epic.
40:53I have always had
40:55anxiety about flying.
40:57I guess I'm slightly
40:58concerned that nervous
41:00energy pours over
41:01onto her.
41:02Holy crap,
41:03that's a lot of people
41:04in there.
41:05You're not helping.
41:07Sorry.
41:08Oh my God,
41:08something's going on.
41:12The airport's just
41:14a tick disaster.
41:15I just really need
41:16to get through this
41:17as quickly as possible.
41:18Is there anyone
41:19behind us?
41:19Yes, ma'am.
41:19Because my legs are locked.
41:20We got a long way
41:22to go, Balan.
