00:00Psst. Hey, you. You've got to watch this. You won't believe your eyes. Okay. I'm going to cut this piece of string like so.
00:29Cut it like right there. Okay. I'm going to put it in my hand. Bring one end over here, one end over here. Tug on both ends, of course, and blow on it. Voila. I'm Malcolm Jamal Warner, and this is Show Off. Cool stunts, tricks, and gags to amaze your friends.
00:59As I was saying, this is Show Off. Show Off is about how to be the life of the party.
01:15You are about to see some of the funniest, most startling, outrageous, and cool tricks you've ever seen. Be sure you learn these incredible feats before you attend your next party.
01:24And remember these three rules. Number one, be cool. Number two, have fun. Because if you're not having fun, how can you expect your friends to have a good time?
01:34And number three, have courage.
01:36Where would Washington be if he hadn't had the courage to show off and throw that silver dollar across the river?
01:43Where would I be if I did not have my incredible string trick?
01:47You need to set this part up before your friends come in.
01:50First, you take a piece of string, the kind that's made up of a lot of strands.
01:54Now take the middle of the string, and pull the parts out, and then you twist them, like this, to make them look like ends.
02:02Okay?
02:03Now you take the actual ends, and put them together so they look like they're attached.
02:08You kind of twist it, like this.
02:11Now you're ready to amaze your friends.
02:15You take scissors, and you cut horizontally, like so.
02:21Now it looks like you have two strings.
02:24Put this in the palm of your hand.
02:26Take one end here, and one end here, like so.
02:29Then tug at the ends.
02:31Like this.
02:33Tug on this end.
02:34Blow on it.
02:35And say some magical words like abracadabra or something.
02:39And the big finish.
02:42Ta-da!
02:42One, two, three!
02:44I grabbed the key to my daddy's ride.
02:48I took my girl down by the riverside.
02:51I'm going up, upside down.
02:54I'm going up, upside down.
02:58Down, down, down, down, upside down.
03:09Lip syncing is fun, but everybody does it these days.
03:12Use an upside down face to give a new twist to your favorite hits.
03:16Here's how.
03:16First, in the mirror, use makeup to paint a pair of nostrils on your chin.
03:21Next, take a handkerchief or a bandana, and just cover up the rest of your face like this.
03:27Then sit on a couch or a chair upside down.
03:30In this position, your chin is the performer's nose.
03:32Now, the secret to making your upside down face look like it's really singing
03:36is to cover your lower teeth with your lower lip
03:39and expose your upper teeth with your upper lip.
03:43Then cut loose.
03:45This will take some practice, but you'll soon be showing off the hits to your friends like this.
03:49One, two, three.
03:51I grab the key to my daddy's ride.
03:54I took my girl down by the riverside.
03:57I'm going up.
03:58You know, a lot of times it's too much trouble to carry around your drum set with you.
04:08But you can be your own beatbox.
04:10I mean, I have my own theme music when I walk, right?
04:12When I walk down the street, I'm looking good.
04:20Now, here's how you can make your own beatbox sound.
04:22First, practice doing a B sound explosively as you can.
04:26Here it is.
04:28Try that.
04:31Now, make a hard K sound in the back of your mouth.
04:36Now, put the two together, and you get this.
04:42Now, you can add a little cymbal by drawing in air very sharply, like this.
04:55See, I think it's party time.
05:04Show Off Sports presents All-Star Thumb Wrestling.
05:08And in this corner, the challenger, the Midget Digit, known for his dirty tricks and cheat tactics.
05:17And the champion, in this corner, the Newark Knuckle, the most fit wrestler in his weight class.
05:25May the better participant emerge victorious.
05:30And the Newark Knuckle is coming on strong, but the Midget Digit is not to be outdone.
05:34Whoa, that was a close call.
05:36It looked like the Knuckle had him down that time, but the Midget Digit has pulled himself away again.
05:41Oh, my.
05:42I think the Knuckle's got the Digit on the ropes.
05:45He's got to hand it to the Knuckle.
05:47He really knows how to press his opponent.
05:49Hold it.
05:50What's going on?
05:51The Midget Digit is up to his old tricks.
05:54Oh, the Knuckle is mad now, but he doesn't know what to do.
05:57I'm surprised the referee has not broken up this fight.
06:01Wait a minute.
06:01Did you see that?
06:03The Midget Digit has pulled an incredibly sneaky trick.
06:06Who knew this match would turn into a tag team fight?
06:11Now, let's see that quickly in slow motion.
06:15Well, fans, it was a simple maneuver, as you can see.
06:19First, he hides his thumb on the side of his opponent's hand,
06:23and then surprises his opponent by pulling his index finger over into the match to pin.
06:28A very clever feat.
06:30Thumbs up to the new champion, the Midget Digit.
06:34Now, here's a quick one you can do while waiting for your hamburger to be served.
06:38And all you need is a straw.
06:40First, you crinkle down the paper.
06:42So, take it from the top, and you crinkle up from the bottom.
06:47Until you get a nice, tight coil.
06:49Next, you get a drop of water or some other kind of beverage.
06:55Drop on the wrapper.
06:58And, voila.
07:00Straw worm.
07:02Okay, Shawl fans.
07:04Watch out now for the incredible imaginary stairway.
07:08It's a great way to make yourself vanish into thin air.
07:10I'm going to show you how to do this.
07:29Let's imagine that we are on this side of the stairs, or in this case, it's not a stairs, is it?
07:38It's a hedge.
07:40And over there is somebody else, and they don't know what's going to happen.
07:44And what we're going to do is walk down the hedge like this.
07:49We take a step behind, we bend the knee.
07:52The body stays straight.
07:53We take another step, we go down a little further.
07:56We take another step, we go down a little further.
07:59Until, finally, we're down here.
08:01Now, if you get down here and you still have a ways to go,
08:03you can fake the rest of it with your upper body and your head like this.
08:10Until you disappear.
08:11And you can do this anywhere you want to.
08:14You can do it behind a counter, behind a sofa, behind a couch, behind a speeding motorboat.
08:20Just remember, make sure someone is watching you, and have a good time.
08:28Om.
08:31Om.
08:34Papa, ooh, mau, mau.
08:36Papa, ooh, mau, mau.
08:38Om.
08:42Yogananda, pasyahare.
08:44Parlez-vous.
08:45Oh, excuse me.
08:48I was just levitating.
08:50Oh, I mean meditating.
08:52Now, I'm really going to levitate.
08:55You know, slip the surly bonds of earth.
08:57Float above the formament.
08:59Defy gravity.
09:01Stand on air.
09:02Well, let's get to it.
09:05Rog, be gone.
09:08Ha!
09:09Now, concentrate.
09:11I need your help.
09:13If you don't believe this trick will work, it won't.
09:16Carefully, watch the heels of my shoes.
09:19Here is how it's done.
09:33First, you line up your heels with your audience.
09:37Be sure to distract the audience by waving your arms about and puffing air.
09:41You then slowly pick yourself up on the toe of your left foot, keeping your right foot parallel with the floor.
09:52If you practice enough, everyone will be impressed with their spiritual abilities.
09:57Of course, then, they'll ask you to make a root beer float, or maybe give them a lift home.
10:01But who knows, maybe someday you'll even be able to fly, just like me.
10:10Well, that's a good way to make an exit, if you're a magician.
10:13Show-offs know most things are harder to get out of than into.
10:17Let's see how a show-off leaves.
10:25Now, the secret to this one is putting your right foot in front of you as you exit.
10:31So that you kick the door.
10:33Then pretend that you've just walked into it head first.
10:37Now, first, practice this slowly and carefully to get your timing right.
10:41And then, add in a real loud, oh!
10:45So that you fool everyone.
10:47Now, it's very important to recover quickly and then make a fast exit.
10:51It always leaves them guessing.
10:53And make sure you're wearing your shoes on this one.
10:58Oh! Oh! Oh!
11:01You know, anybody can look cool.
11:07It's all in the way you carry yourself.
11:09What's important is being able to keep your cool, no matter what happens.
11:12I guess I'll go this way.
11:28Hey, little boy.
11:29Hey!
11:30Now, how does he do that?
11:40The secret to this one now is to pretend that you have a dog pulling on your pant leg.
11:46Now, you position yourself behind the door.
11:49And then you begin to practice the dog pulling your leg like this.
11:53Now, lean with your upper body away from where the dog is so that you give the illusion of resistance.
11:59Like this.
12:00Now, you can add in a few growl sounds and dog sounds and some protests of your own.
12:06That way, it makes the illusion all the more convincing.
12:09Like this.
12:10Hey, get out of the way.
12:19Come on.
12:25You know, wherever I go, I always take my bicycle horn with me.
12:29And you can, too.
12:31First of all, you have to squeeze your hand in the air like this.
12:34Now, make a high-pitched nasal sound.
12:39Try it.
12:42That's the first part of the sound.
12:43Now, for the second part, you draw in air very quickly.
12:47You inhale like this.
12:52Now, let's say during class changes, the hall is really crowded.
12:55A lot of people walking in front of you.
12:57Just give them a little...
12:58And they scatter.
13:04And now, in the center ring, Alfonso the Finger.
13:10Born of a long line of finger contortionists, Alfonso is about to perform the amazing finger tango.
13:23Now, let's see that amazing feet quickly in slow motion.
13:27See how Alfonso the Finger switches his two in-depth fingers to make this fabulous feet work?
13:37You know what they say, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.
13:53Well, here in the desert, I always do what the Arabians do.
13:57So, let me tell you how to become a T-shirt chic.
14:00I stole a secret from the Tomb of King Tut Tut Tut.
14:03First, you need a T-shirt, and I happen to be wearing one right now.
14:07So, second, I pull this T-shirt right over my head.
14:11Next, I get a sweatband, and I put that around my head.
14:18This is what a chic would wear on a festive occasion.
14:20But for everyday use, I just tie the sleeves together.
14:23The T-shirt chic is so convincing, you can even fool a camel.
14:27Now, if I only had a camel...
14:28Magic is really just showing off, isn't it?
14:39The secret of doing magic is getting people to pay so much attention that they can't see what's really going on.
14:45Look, I'll show you what I mean, then I'll explain it.
14:48I'm going to bend this normal, solid pencil.
14:51Here goes. Watch closely.
14:53See?
14:56You put the pencil between your pinky and your ring finger, holding the pencil straight up to the table.
15:02Act like you're putting pressure on the top end of the pencil with your other hand.
15:05Keeping your hands together, push down and let the pencil stick out towards you.
15:10See?
15:11Now, what really makes this work is if you make a big deal out of it, act as though you're bending wood.
15:16I'm going to show you how to make the pencil look like it's rubber.
15:29You just take it, wave it in the air, just like this, and it looks rubbery.
15:34And that is so easy to do.
15:36All you do is hold it in your right hand and move your hand up and down, and that is all there is to that.
15:41And now, I'm going to show you how to use this pencil to vanish a coin.
15:46Do you have a coin with you?
15:48Sure, I have a quarter somewhere.
15:50Here you go.
15:50Terrific. Watch.
15:51On the count of three, the quarter will disappear.
15:55We go one, two, three, and...
15:58Oh.
16:00To pencil it.
16:01Look, let me show you how that works.
16:03Okay.
16:03We have it up here in the air.
16:05We count one, two, three, and you leave the pencil stuck up on top of your ear, and the quarter is not gone.
16:15Voila!
16:16You don't need an instrument to play along with your favorite recordings.
16:32Just learn a few expressive moves, and let it rip.
16:35It's great at parties.
16:36This is a show-off feed.
17:06You can do anywhere, especially good to do at a friend's party, or against the window of a restaurant your friends might be sitting at.
17:14Just sneak up to a window, and press your face against it.
17:21Exaggerate the effect by keeping your eyes wide open, pushing your nose to the side, and it's also great if you open your mouth a little.
17:29You know, sometimes I make such a scary face, I even scare myself.
17:40You know, sometimes I make such a scary face, but I'm not a scary face, but I'm not a scary face.
17:41I'm not a scary face.
17:42I'm not a scary face.
17:43I'm not a scary face.
17:44I'm not a scary face.
17:45I'm not a scary face.
17:46I'm not a scary face.
17:47I'm not a scary face.
17:48I'm not a scary face.
17:49I'm not a scary face.
17:50I'm not a scary face.
17:51I'm not a scary face.
17:52I'm not a scary face.
17:53I'm not a scary face.
17:54I'm not a scary face.
17:55I'm not a scary face.
17:56I'm not a scary face.
17:57I'm not a scary face.
17:58I'm not a scary face.
17:59I'm not a scary face.
18:00I'm a scary face.
18:01You're probably wondering how I do this.
18:17This is the imaginary ball trick.
18:20To do the imaginary ball trick, you need two things.
18:24A paper bag and an imaginary ball.
18:27This is the one I carry with me everywhere I go.
18:29It's blue.
18:30The secret to the trick is to hold your hands on the bag like this.
18:37And then when you take the imaginary ball and you throw it in the bag,
18:41you flick your fingers like this.
18:45Although this trick takes an enormous amount of skill and it took me years to learn,
18:48it's very easy to do and you can do it immediately.
18:50Oh, wow, wow.
19:00Hey, Malcolm.
19:01Hey, Bob.
19:02Hi, Malcolm.
19:03Want to learn how to juggle Malcolm?
19:05Sure.
19:07Can I borrow that apple?
19:08Sure.
19:09Thanks.
19:11Oh, wow.
19:11Oh, do you mind if I have a bite out of your apple?
19:15No.
19:15Thanks.
19:18Do you like a bite out of your apple?
19:19Sure.
19:20Go ahead.
19:22Malcolm, you took a rather large bite out of your apple.
19:25You're not talking much, Malcolm.
19:26You've got a full mouth.
19:28Well, look, I'll teach you how to juggle, but I'm not going to use these.
19:31They're a little sticky now, thanks to the large bite you took out of your apple.
19:34So, instead, let's use these scarves here.
19:39Okay.
19:41One for you and one for me.
19:42I'll take the blue one because it's bigger.
19:45Okay.
19:46This is what we're going to do first.
19:47I just want you to throw the scarf up in the air.
19:49That's it.
19:50Now, the nice thing about scarves is that they fall slowly.
19:55Lots of times for mistakes, right?
19:57Yeah.
19:58Okay.
19:58So, that's all we're going to do.
19:59Throw it up with both hands, one after the other.
20:01Yeah.
20:02It's beautiful.
20:03Yeah.
20:04Nice.
20:05Go to two scarves.
20:07That was easy.
20:07Oops.
20:07Let's go with a different color so you can know which is which.
20:10There you go.
20:11I'll take that one.
20:12Two scarves.
20:13Let's try it first.
20:15Let's go up at the same time, two scarves.
20:18Right.
20:18We'll call that columns.
20:19Okay.
20:20They're going up like columns.
20:22Nice.
20:23I love it when they float like that.
20:26It's like fish.
20:27Yeah.
20:27All right.
20:28Now, let's try it.
20:29We'll alternate them.
20:30One, two.
20:31Go ahead.
20:32One, two.
20:34Beautiful.
20:34One, two.
20:36One, two.
20:37Good.
20:37Now, we'll do the same.
20:38We'll alternate, but we'll alternate across our body.
20:41So, we'll make an X.
20:42One, two.
20:43And we'll catch the scarf with the opposite hand.
20:46Okay.
20:46Right, right.
20:47So, left goes to right.
20:48I catch with the right and then with the left.
20:51Great.
20:51All right.
20:52You're learning too fast, Malcolm.
20:53I'll be out of a job soon.
20:55Okay.
20:55Let's see what colors you got.
20:57Okay.
20:57I'll take that one.
20:58There you go.
20:58Three.
20:59Uh-oh.
20:59Three.
20:59The big three.
21:01Six all together.
21:02Right.
21:02This is what we're going to do.
21:05We're going to take two in one hand.
21:07Okay.
21:07Got that?
21:08Okay.
21:08We're going to throw one up in the middle as a column.
21:10Okay.
21:10And then two on the sides as a column.
21:12Okay.
21:12It looks like this.
21:13I'll do it once.
21:16Nice, huh?
21:17Try it.
21:20Good.
21:21Keep it going.
21:24Keep it going.
21:25Oh, cool.
21:25Great.
21:26Especially when you've got six going together.
21:27It looks really beautiful.
21:29All right.
21:30Okay.
21:30Stop that a sec.
21:31Now let's try it across.
21:32All right.
21:33This is the more difficult pattern.
21:34We're going to go across the body with three.
21:36Oh, God.
21:36So, you're going to go one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine,
21:43ten.
21:44Go ahead.
21:45One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
21:50Keep going.
21:51That's great.
21:53Go.
21:53Go, Malcolm.
21:54Go.
21:54Six.
21:55Come on.
21:55Keep those up, Malcolm.
21:56Eight.
21:57Nice.
21:58One, two, three.
22:00Wait.
22:01That's mine.
22:01Wait.
22:01That's all right.
22:02I got four now.
22:03Okay.
22:03Take five.
22:04No, Malcolm.
22:05So, how?
22:06What do you mean, Malcolm?
22:07Eight.
22:07Take six.
22:08No, Malcolm.
22:11Hmm.
22:11This scarf reminds me of what I had in old Baghdad.
22:14At that time, it was a turban for the Maharaj's flamingo.
22:18Ha!
22:19Those were the days.
22:20That bird used to love to see me perform my repertoire of secret hidey tricks.
22:25You're in luck.
22:26I'll show you one now.
22:29Watch carefully first.
22:31I hear from someone's head.
22:34Slowly pull it back.
22:36And forth.
22:37And back.
22:39And forth.
22:40I suppose you want to know how it's done.
22:42Well, don't you?
22:43It's really quite simple.
22:46First, you tie a knot near one end of the scarf.
22:49Holding the scarf between the thumb and forth finger of one hand, pretend to take a hair from a member of your audience.
22:56With intense concentration, wave the hair over the scarf.
23:01Be sure to keep your audience looking at the imaginary hair.
23:06To make the scarf move, just rub your thumb lightly against the scarf.
23:10Just like this.
23:12And it will move in line with the imaginary hair.
23:18Now for my next trick.
23:19I will make my scarf dance the hula.
23:22Aloha.
23:36Aloha.
23:36Humuhumunukunukunukunapawa'a.
23:38Welcome to the world of the Hawaiian nose hum.
23:41Let me show you how it's done.
23:42Now if you have a head cold, this could get ugly.
23:45For the rest of you, try this.
23:46Place your index finger, hello, right next to your nose.
23:49Right here.
23:49Now, not in the nose.
23:50Just beside the nose.
23:52Now, hum with your mouth closed.
23:54High voice.
23:56Got that?
23:57Now, take your other index finger, hello, hi, and strum your nostril close as you make each note.
24:03Like this.
24:06Try that.
24:08Do it very gracefully.
24:11Here we go.
24:12Ready?
24:16As the sun sinks slowly in the west, I bid you all a fond farewell.
24:33It's a great party, but how am I going to top all of those show-offs?
24:37I've got the string trick.
24:39Oh, no, if they've seen that one.
24:41I guess I could juggle, but I need more practice.
24:44I wonder if I should nose hum.
24:50No, not that kind of party.
24:53I'm going to make bubblegum.
24:55If only I knew how.
24:57I've got it.
24:59This is a job for a super show-off.
25:02This is the perfect opportunity for me to do the invisible coin and hanky thumb lift
25:08with the imaginary, invisible, four-finger, levitating thumb whistle.
25:12You're going to love this week.
25:14Hey, guys, watch this.
25:16Wow, that was great.
25:18I can't believe my eye.
25:22Yeah.
25:23That's all right.
25:25Works every time.
25:26Let's see what kind of show-off you can be.
25:29Let's see what kind of show-off you can be.
25:29Let's see what kind of show-off you can be.
