01:30Don't forget, you can read along with these stories over and over again.
01:37Start to read, start to read with me.
01:40A whole wide world of wonder is waiting.
01:43When you start to read, when you start to read with me, we're gonna have a good time.
01:54One day, Ernie and Bert were taking a walk.
02:11They walked by Mr. Hooper's store.
02:15Ernie stopped.
02:17Look at that, he said.
02:20Ernie pressed his nose to the store window.
02:23Inside was a beautiful box of paints.
02:29It had lots of colors.
02:33It even had gold and silver.
02:36Gee, said Ernie.
02:40I wish I had that box of paints.
02:45Maybe you can have it, said Bert.
02:49Mr. Hooper is having a contest.
02:52The painter of the best picture wins the paints.
02:58Ernie started to run home.
03:02Wow, he said.
03:04I am going to paint a picture right now.
03:09Ernie got out his old paint box.
03:12Then he got some paper.
03:16He was ready to start painting.
03:19The doorbell rang.
03:22I have a letter for you, Ernie, said the mailman.
03:28Thanks, said Ernie.
03:31He said goodbye to the mailman.
03:34He opened his letter.
03:37The letter was from his cousin.
03:39It said,
03:43Dear Ernie,
03:44I painted a picture for you.
03:48I hope you like it.
03:50Love, Cousin Fred.
03:53It was a great picture of a tiger.
03:58Whoa, said Ernie.
04:00It is so much better than any of my pictures.
04:04And then Ernie got an idea.
04:07I could tell Mr. Hooper that I painted the tiger.
04:13Then I would be sure to win, said Ernie.
04:18Ernie's heart beat faster.
04:21He looked at the painting again.
04:25No, I cannot lie, he said.
04:30Ernie hung the tiger painting on the wall.
04:33Now I will paint my own picture, he said.
04:39He painted a picture of rubber ducky.
04:43It was a good painting.
04:47As soon as Bert came home, he saw the tiger painting.
04:51What a great painting, he said.
04:55You will win the contest for sure, old buddy.
05:00Bert took the painting off the wall.
05:04I'll take it to Mr. Hooper for you.
05:07Wait, Bert, said Ernie.
05:10There is something I have to tell you.
05:14Tell me later, Bert said.
05:16Slam went the door.
05:21Ernie looked sadly at his painting of rubber ducky.
05:25He rolled it up and put it in his pocket.
05:28He put on his sneakers and went outside.
05:32I must tell Mr. Hooper the truth, he said.
05:37Ernie started to walk to Mr. Hooper's store.
05:40I saw him before he got there.
05:45Ernie, I shouted.
05:47Your tiger painting is great.
05:51I bet it will win the contest.
05:54Do you really think so?
05:57Asked Ernie.
05:59Yes, I do, I said.
06:01And so does everyone else.
06:05Don't be late for the contest, I said.
06:08Then I ran off.
06:13But Ernie just sat on the curb.
06:17I want that paint box, he said softly.
06:22But I don't want to lie.
06:26How did I get into this mess?
06:30At last Ernie went to Hooper's store.
06:34Everyone was already there.
06:35Everyone had a painting.
06:40Bert's was a broom.
06:43Oscar's was a trash can.
06:46Mine was a big sunflower.
06:50But the best painting of all was the tiger.
06:54All of these are good, said Mr. Hooper.
07:00But only one person can win.
07:04First prize goes to...
07:08Ernie!
07:11Mr. Hooper gave Ernie the box of paints.
07:15We all clapped.
07:16Thank you, Ernie said sadly.
07:22Then I said, Ernie, may I have your painting?
07:27I will hang it by my nest.
07:30Ernie looked at me and burst into tears.
07:34I did not paint that tiger, he cried.
07:38My cousin painted it.
07:42He took out his picture of rubber ducky.
07:45This is my painting.
07:48So that's what you wanted to tell me, said Bert.
07:54Yes, cried Ernie.
07:57Bert put his arm around Ernie.
07:59It is not always easy to tell the truth.
08:05But you did it, said Bert.
08:08I'm proud of you, old buddy.
08:11I will mail the paint box to my cousin, Ernie said.
08:17Because he really won it.
08:20Everyone cheered.
08:24You didn't win the contest, said Bert.
08:27But you painted the best picture of rubber ducky.
08:32And that is no lie.
08:45It's not fair.

08:52One hot summer day, Ernie had a cool idea.
09:01Hey, Bert, he said.
09:03Let's sell lemonade.
09:05Good idea, Ernie, said Bert.
09:09You go buy the lemons.
09:12Then we will make the lemonade together.
09:15Right, Bert, said Ernie.
09:18I will get the lemons.
09:20And he ran off to the store.
09:25On the way, Ernie saw Grover and me.
09:29Hi, said Ernie.
09:31I am going to have a lemonade stand.
09:35Be sure to come.
09:38Oh, we will, I said.
09:40All these feathers can make a bird pretty hot.
09:45At Mr. McIntosh's store, Ernie saw piles of lemons.
09:51He saw piles of oranges, too.
09:55The oranges looked delicious.
09:58Ernie bought them instead of lemons.
10:00Back home, Bert painted a sign.
10:06It said,
10:07Ice coal lemonade.
10:10Ten cents a glass.
10:13When Ernie got home, Bert looked into the bag.
10:18Ernie, these are oranges, he yelled.
10:21Where are the lemons?
10:25At the store, said Ernie.
10:29Bert groaned.
10:31We need lemons for lemonade.
10:35I will get the lemons, said Bert.
10:38And you finish painting the sign.
10:42Ernie said,
10:44Sure, Bert.
10:46Bert went to the store.
10:47Susan and Bob were there.
10:52Bert told everyone what had happened.
10:55They all laughed.
10:58You know how Ernie is, said Susan.
11:02We can't expect him to get it right.
11:06Lucky he has Bert, said Bob.
11:09Lucky, said Bert to himself.
11:13It is not very lucky for me.
11:15Ernie, then Bert went home.
11:20He walked into the kitchen.
11:22It was covered with blue paint.
11:26Ernie was covered with paint, too.
11:29Ernie, said Bert.
11:32What a mess you made.
11:35Now I have to clean up.
11:38And you have to take a bath.
11:42Right, Bert, said Ernie.
11:44You start making the lemonade.
11:47I will not be long.
11:50Bert squeezed the lemons.
11:53He added sugar and ice water.
11:57He filled a big pitcher with lemonade.
12:00Then he made the sign look nice and neat.
12:03At last, Ernie came back.
12:10He was sprinkling powder on himself.
12:13Most of it fell on the floor.
12:16Hi, Bert.
12:16I am ready to help now.
12:19Help, yelled Bert.
12:22You are no help at all.
12:26Bert set up the lemonade stand.
12:28Grover and I arrived first.
12:33Mmm, said Grover.
12:35This lemonade is terrific, Ernie.
12:39I said, it sure is.
12:42Ernie always has good ideas.
12:46Bert glared at Ernie.
12:48It is easy to have ideas.
12:52Bert grumbled.
12:53It is not so easy to make them work.
12:59Susan and Bob came.
13:01So did Gordon and Mr. McIntosh.
13:06Everyone was thirsty.
13:09Clink, clink went their dimes.
13:12Mr. McIntosh looked proud.
13:16Ernie got the lemons at my store, he said.
13:21Lemons, grumbled Bert.
13:24Ernie got oranges.
13:26I got the lemons.
13:28Gordon patted Ernie on the back.
13:32You did a great job, he said.
13:35Ernie smiled.
13:37Thanks, Gordon, he said.
13:39Maybe I will do this every day.
13:43Bert got red in the face.
13:47Every day, he said.
13:50Sure, Bert, said Ernie.
13:52I will call it Ernie's Famous Lemonade.
13:57Bert could not stand it anymore.
14:01It's not fair, Bert shouted.
14:04I did all the work.
14:06I always do all the work.
14:11Ernie makes a mess.
14:14Ernie makes mistakes.
14:17But he has all the fun.
14:21And everybody expects me to do everything.
14:26Then he burst into tears.
14:29Nobody ever even says thank you, he said.
14:36He ran and sighed.
14:39Oh, this is so sad, said Grover.
14:43He blew his nose.
14:46Gee, I said.
14:48I never knew Bert could cry.
14:51Everybody can cry, Bob said.
14:56That is true, said Susan.
14:59Especially when everyone forgets about them.
15:04Everyone felt terrible.
15:07Ernie felt the worst of all.
15:09I have to show Bert that I am really sorry.
15:14I will give him a present, he said.
15:18He left to look for a surprise for Bert.
15:22When Ernie got home, he peeked into the kitchen.
15:27Bert was sniffling sadly.
15:28I am sorry, Bert, said Ernie.
15:33I got a present to cheer you up.
15:36Please don't cry anymore.
15:39He gave Bert the present.
15:42Bert stopped sniffling.
15:45He opened the present.
15:48His frown turned into a smile.
15:50Oh, Ernie, said Bert.
15:54How wonderful.
15:57A dustpan and brush.
16:00But you spent all the lemonade money on me.
16:05Ernie smiled shyly.
16:07That is okay, he said.
16:10You did all the work.
16:13Bert could not wait to try out his present.
16:17He began sweeping up the powder.
16:20I will help, old buddy, said Ernie.
16:24No, said Bert.
16:27I like to sweep.
16:29Anyway, I sweep better than you.
16:33But you can keep me company, old pal.
16:37And Ernie did.
16:48Why are you so mean to me?

17:00Grover woke up smiling.
17:03Today was the day of the school picnic.
17:07Grover's mother gave him a big picnic lunch.
17:11Then she said,
17:13I have a surprise for you.
17:17It was a baseball bat.
17:20Grover was so happy.
17:23Now you can learn to play baseball, she said.
17:27I will be a super batter, said Grover.
17:33Grover's mother gave him a big kiss goodbye.
17:36The school bus took everyone to Bluebird Park.
17:43Grover sat in the back with Truman.
17:46My big brother has a bat like yours, said Truman.
17:50I play ball with him all the time.
17:53I have never played before, said Grover.
17:57I cannot wait to try.
17:59There was so much to do in the park.
18:04Everyone played tag.
18:07Betty Lou showed Grover a trick on the monkey bars.
18:12Then there was a sack race.
18:16At noon, they had their picnic lunch.
18:21After lunch, it was time to play baseball.
18:26The teacher told Jill and Truman to pick two teams.
18:30One by one, everyone was picked.
18:36Everyone but Grover.
18:40You need one more, Truman, said the teacher.
18:45Take Grover.
18:47Truman said,
18:49Oh, no.
18:51Grover has never played before.
18:54He will make us lose.
18:57Truman's words hurt Grover.
19:00They felt like a punch.
19:04But Grover just said,
19:06You will see.
19:08I will be a super batter.
19:12But Grover was not a super batter.
19:17He missed the ball every time.
19:21Now was his last chance.
19:24He swung three times.
19:26He missed three times.
19:30The other team shouted,
19:33We won!
19:36See, I told you Grover can't bat, said Truman.
19:41Everyone laughed.
19:44Grover can't bat, they teased.
19:47Grover pretended not to hear.
19:51But he felt very sad.
19:56Grover walked home slowly from the bus stop.
20:01Why did all my friends make fun of me?
20:04A big tear rolled down his furry face.
20:09He kicked a tin can down the street.
20:14You stupid can, he said.
20:18Then he looked at his bat.
20:20You stupid bat, he said.
20:23As he passed Oscar's can, Grover bumped into me.
20:30Hi, Grover, I said.
20:33Look, Oscar gave me this blue paint.
20:37I am painting a picture of you.
20:40Grover looked at the picture.
20:42That stinks, he yelled.
20:46That does not look like me at all.
20:50That made me cry.
20:54Grover, why are you so mean to me?
20:58I said.
20:58I am your friend.
21:03Oscar popped out of his can.
21:06Who is making all that noise, he yelled.
21:11Big bird is, Grover said.
21:14Grover is, I said.
21:18Grover looked at Oscar.
21:21He looked at me.
21:23Then he burst into tears.
21:26Everyone made fun of me.
21:31He told us all about the baseball game.
21:35Poor Grover, I said.
21:37You must feel so sad.
21:41Oscar yelled.
21:43Sad?
21:44You must mean mad.
21:47Grover said.
21:48I am sad and mad.
21:51Then he began to smile a little.
21:54I have a good idea, I said.
21:58I will practice batting with you.
22:02Oscar gave us a rotten old ball.
22:05Now go away, he said.
22:09I threw the ball to Grover again and again.
22:14At last, Grover hit the ball.
22:17Hooray, I said.
22:21Then Grover threw the ball to me again and again.
22:26I missed every time.
22:29I am even worse than you, I said.
22:33Grover and I laughed and laughed.
22:36Finally, it was time to go home.
22:42Grover looked up at me.
22:44He said,
22:46I did not mean what I said before.
22:49I do not think your painting stinks.
22:53Please, may I have it?
22:55I smiled.
22:59Sure you can, I said.
23:02Grover said,
23:04I will go hang it up right now.
23:08He ran all the way home.
23:10Hello, dear, said his mother.
23:17Did you have fun at the picnic?
23:21Grover said,
23:22Some of it was fun.
23:24But then everyone made fun of me.
23:28They laughed because I was a bad batter.
23:33Oh my goodness, said Grover's mother.
23:37What did you do?
23:38He said,
23:40I yelled at Big Bird.
23:43Then I felt worse.
23:47Oh my, said his mother.
23:50Then what?
23:52We played, said Grover.
23:56Then Big Bird gave me this nice painting.
24:01His mother said,
24:02Big Bird is a good friend.
24:05Grover's mother helped him hang the painting.
24:11Then they had a nice hot supper.
24:15After supper,
24:16Grover sat on his mother's lap.
24:20Mommy,
24:21will I ever be good at batting?
24:25Maybe you will when you are older,
24:28she said.
24:29But maybe you will not.
24:31Then she smiled.
24:35But you will always be good at being Grover.
24:40And that is even better.
24:43Start to read, start to read with me.
25:05It's so much fun and you'll agree that it's easy
25:09when you start to read with me.
25:13Read along with the words I say.
25:16Keep on trying, then someday you'll be reading by yourself.
25:20You can do it.
25:22First you watch and listen.
25:25Then get right to it and say the words with me.
25:29Don't forget you can read along with these stories over and over again.
25:35Start to read, start to read with me.
25:37It's so much fun and you'll agree that it's easy
25:41when you start to read with me.
25:45Read along with the words I say.
25:47Keep on trying, then someday you'll be reading by yourself.
25:52You can do it.
25:54First you watch and listen.
25:57Then get right to it and say the words with me.
26:02Read along with the words I say.
26:05Keep on trying, then someday you'll be reading by yourself.
26:10You can do it.
26:12First you watch and listen.
26:14Then get right to it and say the words with me.
26:19Don't forget, you can read along with these stories over and over again.
26:24Start to read, start to read with me.
26:27A whole wide world of wonder is waiting
26:30when you start to read,
26:34when you start to read with me.
26:39We're going to have a good time.
27:15There we are.
