Judge-only trials will help to deliver swifter justice in complex fraud cases, David Lammy said, as he launched the Government’s anti-corruption strategy.The Deputy Prime Minister made the claim as he set out plans to make the UK a harder target for corrupt practices, in a speech in the City of London.The strategy includes stronger law enforcement action to tackle bribery and corruption in the public sector and financial services, as well as tougher sanctions on corrupt lawyers and bankers who enable the flow of dirty money

00:07Well, it's a real pleasure to be here to launch the UK's anti-corruption strategy
00:14because these are crimes deliberately buried in years of accounts,
00:20myriad offshore structures, opaque trades,
00:24hidden by the most devious hands,
00:26with cases that go on for months and even years on end
00:31with tens or even thousands, hundreds of thousands of pages of technical evidence.
00:37One case famously collapsing after almost two years in court
00:41at the cost of £25 million to the public purse.
00:44So judge-only trials in the most complex frauds
00:48will get justice moving faster and send a clear message.
00:52If you loot, if you launder, if you defraud the British people,
00:57you will be caught and tried by those who understand your tricks.
