00:00A well-made song will take you places that you would never expect to go and keep you
00:26company down a lot of roads. This song has come a long way with me. I'm Sheryl Crow and these
00:34are my words and my music.
00:44Life springs eternal on a gaudy neon street
00:49But I carry all
00:53I spent the best part of my losing streak
01:00In an army jeep
01:02For what I can't recall
01:05Oh, I'm banging on my TV set
01:11And I check the yards and I
01:16And I place my bed
01:20Pour a drink
01:22And I
01:23Pull the blind
01:24And I wonder what I find
01:28I'm leaving lost
01:30The light is so bright
01:38The palm is swearing
01:40Blackjack on Saturday night
01:42I'm leaving lost
01:44I'm leaving for good
01:46I'm leaving for good
01:50I'm leaving for good
01:57I'm leaving for good
02:01Used to be I could drive up to Barstow for the night
02:12Find some cross-ride track
02:16And the timing strings mine
02:19These days it seems like
02:22Nowhere is far another way
02:25So I'm leaving Los Vegas today
02:29Lost for us
02:33Oh, now you're so bright
02:38Blackjack on a Saturday night
02:41Leaving Los Vegas
02:43I'm leaving for good
02:49I'm leaving for good
02:52Oh, oh, oh, good
02:55Standing in the middle of the desert
03:00Waiting for a ship to come in
03:04Right now, no joker
03:09No jack and no king
03:12You take the season in and make it a win
03:18Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
03:22Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
03:31I'm leaving for good
03:37I quit my job as a dancer
03:56In Lido Day Girls
03:59They had me dealing blackjack
04:02Until one or two
04:03Such a muddy line
04:07Between the things you want
04:10And the things you have to do
04:15I'm leaving lost for you
04:17The light is so bright
04:24I promise where the blackjack
04:27On a Saturday night
04:29I'm leaving lost for you
04:31I'm leaving for good
04:35I'm leaving for good
04:38Oh, I'm leaving lost for you
04:41My eyes so bright
04:49On a Saturday night
04:51I'm leaving lost for you
04:54I'm leaving for good
04:59Oh, I'm leaving lost for you
05:05And I won't be back
05:12No, no, no, no
05:15Won't be back
05:16Not this time
05:20I won't be back
05:38Oh, I won't be back
05:41Well, that would be where you guys first met me.
05:55That song actually was on my first record, which came out in 1994, which was the last
06:03century.
06:05Literally, by the time that record came out, I had lived nine lives.
06:11I had gone to college, I had gotten my degree in classical piano, I'd gotten my secondary
06:15as a music school teacher, I played in cover bands, I played at weddings, bar mitzvahs,
06:22graduation parties, I got a job in St. Louis as an elementary school teacher.
06:27I taught kindergarten through six in the public school system, and I have to say I did love
06:31it, all the while teaching and still playing in cover bands.
06:36And one night I'm playing, and a producer comes in and asks me if I will sing a demo
06:40for a commercial.
06:42It probably will ring a bell, it's a good time for the great taste of McDonald's.
06:47So I felt like I'd really made it.
06:49But the crazy thing about it was, that commercial took me 45 minutes to sing, and it paid me
06:55more than the two years I taught school.
06:58So, what does that say?
07:00Anyway, I took that demo, and it was filled with other jingles by this time, and I moved
07:05to Los Angeles thinking, well, I should be able to get work as a jingle singer, and maybe
07:10people will hear my originals and give me a record deal.
07:14Well, I did actually eventually start getting jingle work, but not before I got a job waiting
07:20tables, which is what you do when you're a new artist.
07:23So, for anybody who's a waiter in here who needs a record deal, I know exactly how to
07:28do it.
07:29Anyway, I eventually got more work, I started singing jingles, I started singing on people's
07:33records, and I overheard some singers talking about the Michael Jackson tour.
07:39And I thought, you know what, I'm going to go to the audition, even though I'm not recommended,
07:43what's the worst thing that can happen?
07:44And so I went, and I stood in front of their video camera and said, hi, Mike, my name,
07:50can I call you Mike, my name is Sheryl Crow, and I just moved here from St. Louis, and I
07:56was a school teacher, and I would love to go on the tour with you, and I sang, and then
07:59I got it.
08:03I'm a big believer in manifesting, so anyway, we went all over the world touring with this
08:09huge artist, probably the biggest artist, maybe of all time, but definitely during that
08:13time, I learned how to sing just like him, she says I am the one, so that I could double
08:19him, I mean, I was so in it, and loved it, and it was a crash course in music industry,
08:26and in touring, and in becoming an artist.
08:28It was so high on luck, and then I came home, and I went back to waiting tables, I sang more
08:33jingles, and I got a publishing deal, and I wrote songs, and I had a song covered by Celine
08:39Dion, and I had a song covered by Winona Judd, and I had one covered by Tina Turner, but actually,
08:45there was a night when I got called to sing on a Don Henley record that sort of my life
08:49changed, because not only did I sing on his record, he became a bit of a mentor to me,
08:55and he's the one that said, you need to keep your songs for yourself, so he was very instrumental
08:59in me getting a record deal, and sort of getting on the path.
09:02I did make an album for A&M Records, and I didn't love the records, so I went in and
09:11said, will you please not put it out, and they looked at me cross-eyed, and were like,
09:14okay, they did not put it out, but I did sort of sit around for a year thinking, they're
09:19going to drop me, they're going to drop me, I'm sure of it, and I met this producer, Bill
09:24Betrell, and went in, and we made a record called The Tuesday Night Music Club, which was
09:29a joy to make, and from that record, I toured clubs, and I toured bars, and I opened for
09:35bigger acts, and then at 33, I had a hit called All I Want to Do, and that is when I became
09:44an overnight sensation, after about 15 years of really hard work, and waiting tables.
09:50In 1995, I was nominated for five Grammys, and I won three, and one of them was actually
09:58for Best New Artist. Obviously, it takes a long time to become a Best New Artist, but
10:03one of my favorite memories from that time, actually, is a fax that Don sent me. Do you
10:08guys remember faxes? He used to call me Pookie, and it started off, dear Pookie, congratulations
10:15on winning Best New Artist, please see below all those who have won before you, and then
10:20it was signed, good luck, Don, and there was a long list of people that we pretty much never
10:25heard from again, so. Anyway, I played countless shows, I loaded in my gear, I loaded out my
10:30gear, we went from a, like a moving van to an RV, which was a big day. This time, it was
10:37different. We visited radio stations, and we did interviews, and we became huge in Colorado
10:44and France. And so for about a year, we toured Colorado and France. Weed and wine. Just weed
10:55and wine. But I think, actually, later in 1994 is when I felt my career started to shift,
11:02and it was largely because I was invited to do a three-day festival that was Woodstock,
11:08the 25th anniversary. And I have to say, I'm a huge fan of all the artists that were on
11:14the original Woodstock. So for me to get to play it, I was one of only two women. It was
11:18not only a thrill, but an honor. And also, it changed things for me because people started
11:22to recognize me, and radio stations added me, and TV shows started calling. I got to do Letterman,
11:28I got to do Saturday Night Live, and things really started to change. And it was, it really
11:33was that moment where I felt like, maybe this music thing's going to pan out after all.
11:40How do you listen to that? I don't know. Thank you.
11:55I used to ride with a Vandame machine repairman. He'd sit down this road more than twice. He was
12:06I was high on intellectualism
12:09I've never been there
12:12But the brochure looks nice
12:14Jump in, let's go
12:18Lay back, enjoy the show
12:24Everybody gets high, everybody gets low
12:29These are the days when anything goes
12:33Every day is a winding road
12:37I get a little bit closer
12:42Every day is a faded sign
12:47I get a little bit closer
12:52Feeling fine
12:56He's got a daughter he calls Easter
13:06She was born on a Tuesday night
13:11I'm just wondering why I feel so all alone
13:16I'm a stranger in my own life
13:21Jump in, let's go
13:25Lay back, enjoy the show
13:31Everybody gets high, everybody gets low
13:36These are the days when anything goes
13:41Every day is a winding road
13:45I get a little bit closer
13:50Every day is a faded sign
13:55I get a little bit closer
13:59Every day is a winding road
14:04I get a little bit closer
14:09Every day is a faded sign
14:14I get a little bit closer
14:16I get a little bit closer
14:18I get a little bit closer
14:19Feeling fine
14:22One, two, three, four
14:30I've been living in a sea of anarchy
14:54I've been living on coffee and nicotine
14:59I'm winding in all the things I've seen
15:04Whatever is ever really happening
15:09Ever really happening
15:11Every day is a winding road
15:15I get a little bit closer
15:20Every day is a faded sign
15:26I get a little bit closer
15:30Every day is a winding road
15:30Every day is a winding road
15:35I get a little bit closer
15:40Every day is a faded sign
15:45I get a little bit close to the feeling fine
15:54Feeling fine
15:58Every day is a winding road
16:05Every day is a winding road
16:15Well, it is a fantastic and yet very interesting predicament
16:33to have to compete with a very successful first record.
16:37My first record, the Tuesday Ant Music Club record,
16:39sold 8 million copies, and that's a lot of records.
16:43And so when I went in to make the second record,
16:46anything short of 8 million would have been deemed
16:48like the sophomore slump.
16:50So definitely felt a lot of pressure
16:53because there's no handbook for how to become famous.
16:57And there's nothing that tells you to not take things personally.
17:01You know, having critics write that your show sucked
17:05or your voice wasn't great
17:06or that your hair looked like a soccer mom
17:09when you get your hair cut.
17:10Just, you know, little stupid things that you take personally
17:13you take to heart.
17:15There's just definitely nothing to prepare you for that
17:17and definitely nothing to prepare you
17:20for the little betrayals
17:22from people that you thought you could trust.
17:25You know, I tell people this all the time.
17:27If there was a category in your high school book
17:29that said least likely to become a rock star,
17:32it would have been my picture.
17:34I was in the choir.
17:35I was like a music nerd.
17:37I was the drum majorette.
17:39I was a really good girl.
17:40I made really good grades.
17:42You could tell I was a good girl.
17:43You can look at my hairdos.
17:44Like I had the Dorothy Hamill wedge, right?
17:46I had the Tennille thing turn in.
17:48I think I even had the Olivia Newton-John
17:50Let's Get Physical haircut.
17:52That might have been college, but you know.
17:53And definitely rocked the Stevie Nicks shag.
17:58But my parents always said,
17:59if you're a good person
18:00and you treat other people well
18:02and you do your best,
18:03good things will happen.
18:04But I was definitely not prepared
18:05for some of the things
18:06that were written about me
18:08in those early days.
18:09Things that doubted my talent
18:10and my authenticity
18:11and even whether I had written my own album.
18:15So it's interesting to look back at the artwork
18:17because artwork, I think,
18:18a lot of times will document
18:19who you were at any given moment.
18:21So for me, the first record,
18:24the artwork looked like
18:25I could have been in Better Homes and Garden.
18:27I'm like, yeah, y'all come over
18:28and have some cappuccino
18:29or play mahjong.
18:31And then the second record looks like,
18:33do not fuck with me.
18:36I'm about to go in and rob a 7-11.
18:39So don't get in my way.
18:40I will jack you up.
18:42Anyway, suffice it to say,
18:44by the time I got to make my second record,
18:46I had a lot to say.
18:49And the liberation, really,
18:50of being in New Orleans,
18:50which was totally away
18:52from the music industry,
18:54and also getting to produce myself
18:56and getting to bring in my two buddies,
18:58Jeff Trott and Brian McLeod,
19:01and also working with a badass female engineer
19:05named Trina Shoemaker.
19:06The whole experience was so liberating,
19:09and that was really what announced
19:11who I really was as an artist and as a person.
19:14So this was really my introduction
19:17to Sheryl Crow.
19:18I've been long, long away from here,
19:37long, long away from here,
19:46put on a poncho,
19:48played for mosquitoes,
19:50drank till I was thirsty again.
19:54I went searching through the thrift store jungle,
20:02found Geronimo's raffle,
20:08Mariline Shampoo,
20:09Mariline Shampoo,
20:10Mariline Shampoo,
20:10Mariline Shampoo,
20:11Pentecost,
20:12Quartet and Van.
20:15Well, okay, I made this up.
20:20I promised you I'd never give up.
20:23If it makes you happy,
20:28it can't be done right.
20:33If it makes you happy,
20:37then why the hell are you so sad?
20:42You get down real low down.
20:55You listen to Coltrane,
21:01Daryl, you're on train,
21:04who hasn't been there before.
21:07I come around,
21:13around the hard way.
21:19Reheal comics in bed,
21:21scrape a mold off the bread,
21:24and serve your French toast again.
21:28Well, okay, I still get stoned.
21:33I'm not the kind of girl you take home,
21:37that makes you happy,
21:42it can't be done right.
21:47If it makes you happy,
21:51then why the hell are you so sad?
21:56If it makes you happy,
22:01it can't be diverse,
22:07if it makes you happy,
22:11then why the hell are you so sad?
22:15we're doing well and we become Gumbo.
22:18I wasn'tモwe.
22:20I were doing well and good,
22:21but we'll do well and that's so sad.
22:22I'm not that hard.
22:23But we eenw absolutely right in a while.
22:25With it in an adventure that he was hungry and my life.
22:28They never hablar about it.
22:37We've been far, far away from here
22:49We put on a poncho, played for mosquitoes
22:57Everywhere in between
23:00We're okay, we get along
23:05So what if right now everything's wrong?
23:10If it makes you happy
23:13It can't be that bad
23:20If it makes you happy
23:24Then why the hell are you so sad?
23:30If it makes you happy
23:33It can't be that bad
23:38If it makes you happy
23:42Then why the hell are you so sad?
23:47Oh...
23:52Oh...
23:59Oh...
24:02Oh...
24:04Oh...
24:09Oh...
24:11Oh...
24:13Oh...
24:17Oh...
24:17Oh...
24:21Well, I don't think I'm typically known for writing lyrics like Bob Dylan, although I
24:42will say I've never gone into the studio to work on a record that I did not carry in
24:46a Bob Dylan lyric book. But in this particular instance, when I returned from playing for
24:52the troops in Bosnia, the verses to this song poured out of me as if Bob was in my ear going,
24:58hey, that sounds pretty good. The song literally was just one stanza after another, and it was
25:04called Redemption Day. And it asked the same question I ask myself every day still, which is
25:11about our involvement as a nation, our investments in other countries' conflicts. And Redemption Day
25:18was definitely not a hit song, but I think the greatest acknowledgement for me was Johnny Cash.
25:25He wanted to record it. And the story is, is that in May in 2003, Johnny called me and said that June
25:32had passed, June Carter Cash, which is his wife, and he asked me if I would sing at her funeral,
25:36which for me was a very high honor. And I'd never sung at a funeral. So I called my mom,
25:42um, who in our hometown, she sang at everybody's funeral because she has the best voice. So I called
25:48her, I said, mom, I don't know how am I even going to get through this? And she said, well,
25:52well, actually it's more like this. Well, what you do is first, you don't look at Johnny
25:58and you try to look over everyone's heads and think about anything other than what you're doing.
26:04Okay. I think I can do that. So I'm standing there with Emmylou Harris and we're getting ready
26:10to sing Every Grain of Sand by Bob Dylan. First thing I do when Johnny walks out is I look straight
26:15at him. Got through it, got through it. But about three weeks after June's funeral, Johnny got me
26:24on the phone and he said he had heard Redemption Day. His son-in-law had played it for him and he
26:28wanted to record it and make it the cornerstone of his record. Now his wife had just
26:34passed away and literally he said, I feel like I'm not done yet. I have more to say.
26:38And he explained to me that this song needed to be heard in that moment in relationship to what was
26:43going on in the country at that time. And that was during the Iraq Afghanistan war. And he asked
26:49me one question after another about what was this line for? Why did you write this? What's the intent
26:54of the song? And this was a man who stood for things that were not popular. He fought for the rights
27:00of Native Americans. He stood up against the Vietnam War when that was not popular at the risk
27:06of angering his fan base. He was a man of total integrity. He was a strong man and yet he shared
27:13the fragility of his own journey with addiction and his faith in God. But before he would sing
27:18this song, he wanted to be sure he could align himself with what he was singing. And I think
27:22that's one of the reasons that we loved and trusted Johnny Cash, because when he sang to us,
27:27we knew that what he was singing was what he stood behind. He recorded his version of
27:32the song and then he sent it to me and called me and asked me what I thought. And what am
27:35I going to say? I mean, I was just like boo-hooing as you do when you're talking to Johnny Cash
27:40about a song you've written and he's recorded. Unfortunately, he passed away about three months
27:47later. And his version of the song didn't come out for many years, but it's still a beautiful,
27:55beautiful testimony.
27:57I've wept for those who suffer long. But I wait for those who've gone. In the rooms of grief and question
28:24wrong. But keep on killing. It's in the soul to feel such things. But we do watch with us
28:40there is a train that's headed straight to heaven's gate, to heaven's gate. And on the way, child and man and woman and wait.
29:10Watch and wait
29:13For redemption day
29:18Fire rages in the street
29:25And swallows everything it meets
29:31It's just an image often seen on television
29:40Come leaders, come you men of great
29:45Let us hear you pontificate
29:51Your many virtues lead to a waste and beyond listening
30:01There is a train that's headed straight
30:07To heaven's gate, to heaven's gate
30:11And on the way, shining man and woman wait
30:19Watch and wait
30:23For redemption day
30:27What do you have for us today
30:34Throw us a bone but save the place
30:41Oh, were you waiting till so late
30:46Was there no oil to excavate
30:49No riches in trade for the faith
30:51And every person who died in hate
30:54There was a bone, you men of great
30:58There is a train that's headed straight
31:05To heaven's gate
31:07Heaven's gate
31:10And on the way, child and man
31:14And women wait
31:17Watch and wait
31:19Watch and wait
31:20For redemption day
31:25It's buried in the countryside
31:37It's hidden in the shells of night
31:43It's everywhere a baby cries
31:47Freedom
31:49Freedom
31:51Freedom
31:52Freedom
31:56Freedom
32:01Freedom
32:02I'm really going to date myself here
32:26But I was a kid who grew up playing record albums
32:30Those big black things with the hole in the middle
32:32With the needle
32:33Anyway
32:33And I would pour over the liner notes
32:36And all the pictures
32:38And the list of musicians on every record
32:41And I knew everybody on every record
32:43And we had like a big Magnavox console
32:47That had like a record player on one side
32:49And a reel-to-reel player on the other side
32:51And then on top of like this big thing
32:54Were these big speakers
32:55And I would lay on the brown shag carpeting
32:58In front of those speakers
32:59And I would listen to like Tapestry
33:01And Mudside Slim and The Blue Horizon
33:03And Inner Visions
33:04And Highway 61
33:06And Rumors
33:07And Blue
33:07And Alfie
33:08Burt Bacharach
33:09I mean, talk about the soundtrack
33:11To your life
33:12Those albums
33:13Were my imaginary
33:15One-way ticket
33:17Out of my hometown
33:17Of three stoplights
33:19And a Dairy Queen
33:20It's impossible for me
33:23To process my life
33:25And the good fortune
33:25That I've had
33:26To play with so many
33:28Of the heroes
33:28Whose albums I poured over
33:31It's hard for me to imagine
33:32That a teenager
33:33Sitting in a tiny town
33:35At Blatemore Drugs
33:36On the square
33:37In Kennet, Missouri
33:38Drinking Coca-Cola
33:39Out of a bottle
33:40And studying the pictures
33:41Of like Fleetwood Mac
33:42And the Rolling Stones
33:42And Led Zeppelin
33:43In music magazines
33:45That I would go on
33:46To sing Honky Tonk Women
33:47With Mick Jagger
33:48Or that I would share the stage
33:50With Stevie Nicks
33:50Or play According
33:51With Bob Dylan
33:52Or jam with Johnny
33:53And Willie
33:54And Eric
33:55Let alone becoming friends
33:57With so many
33:57Of my musical heroes
33:59Like I said
34:00I'm a big believer
34:00In manifesting
34:01But I've been damn lucky
34:03And I will say
34:04It's very interesting
34:06To be a working
34:07Traveling musician
34:08On the road
34:09Tour buses
34:10Planes
34:10The whole thing
34:11When you're on the road
34:12You're always on the road
34:13And sometimes
34:14Your life intersects
34:16With other famous
34:17Traveling musicians
34:19And when I say
34:21Intersects
34:22I'm going to leave it there
34:24I've been pretty private
34:27About who I've intersected with
34:30But I would say
34:33That good or bad
34:35There's been a blessing
34:36In every relationship
34:37That I've had
34:38I always tell my audiences
34:39I've loved some really
34:41Amazing people
34:42And I've loved some
34:44Other people too
34:44So let's leave it at that
34:47And you guys can try
34:48And figure out the rest
34:49Thank you
34:51Thank you
34:52Thank you
34:58Thank you
34:59Ooh, ooh, ooh
35:10Ooh, ooh, ooh
35:19I woke up and called this morning
35:26The tone of your voice was a warning
35:31That you don't care for me anymore
35:41I'm made of the bed we sleep in
35:45I looked at the clock when you're creeping
35:50It's 6am and I'm alone
35:57Did you know when you go is the perfect ending
36:04To the bad day I was just beginning
36:09When you go all I know is all my favorite mistake
36:16Your fans are sorry for me
36:32They want to pretend you would hurt me
36:37Oh, but I know who to escape
36:43And here comes the secret lover
36:51She'll be young or any other
36:57Until you look at your goals up in my place
37:03Did you know when you go is the perfect ending
37:11To the bad day I've gotten used to spending
37:16When you go all I know is all my favorite mistake
37:23You're my favorite mistake
37:28Maybe nothing lasts forever
37:35Even when you stay together
37:36Even when you stay together
37:40I'll need forever after
37:45It's a laughter
37:47You'll let me go
37:49So I'm falling on this way
37:56Did you know, could you tell
38:13You were the only one
38:16That I ever loved
38:19Everything's so
38:23Did you see me walking by?
38:35Did it ever make you cry?
38:40You're my favorite mistake
38:46You're my favorite mistake
38:47You're my favorite mistake
38:48You're my favorite mistake
38:49You're my favorite mistake
38:50You're my favorite mistake
38:51You're my favorite mistake
38:52You're my favorite mistake
38:53You're my favorite mistake
38:54You're my favorite mistake
38:55You're my favorite mistake
38:56You're my favorite mistake
38:57You're my favorite mistake
38:58You're my favorite mistake
38:59You're my favorite mistake
39:00You're my favorite mistake
39:01You're my favorite mistake
39:03You're my favorite mistake
39:04You're my favorite mistake
39:05You're my favorite mistake
39:06You're my favorite mistake
39:07You're my favorite mistake
39:09You're my favorite mistake
39:10You're my favorite mistake
39:11You're my favorite mistake
39:12You're my favorite mistake
39:13You're my favorite mistake
39:14You're my favorite mistake
39:15You're my favorite mistake
39:16Well, I've been around long enough now that I'm considered a
39:20legacy artist, which means I'm as old as Moses and
39:25Of course, I always say that I think the Grammy should should give out best old artist as well as best new artist
39:32Really at the end of the day all of us have the same
39:35Emotions, it's just the experience looks different. We love and we hate we pass through joy and fear and disappointment and contentment and
39:45and
39:46Songs, I think they allow us to experience those memories and emotions over and over again, and they give us comfort and
39:54Companionship and fun and solace. I mean how many times do you hear a song and go? Oh my gosh, that's exactly how I feel
40:01Makes us feel like we're not alone, right?
40:04There is a song for every mom and dad who watched a kid grow up a son or daughter
40:10Who taught you more than you could ever teach them, which is definitely my experience?
40:15I think my kids every day for teaching me how to be a better person. I
40:20Also take the keys and the phone when they are acting like little shits
40:25But you know
40:27My older son actually is leaving for college soon and I'm learning
40:30The true exercise that love is letting go and I'm gonna say right now. I don't like it
40:36Don't like it
40:38You might find yourself saying goodbye to your child while you're also letting go of a parent and for me
40:45This is where it gets tricky. My mom has no more memories
40:49She has no recollection of bringing me into the world or a singing to me as a baby of teaching me to play the piano
40:58But when she sits next to me on the piano bench and I play her old favorite songs she comes back
41:03For as long as that song lasts she sings at the top of her lungs and she is
41:09my mom and
41:11We're still connected through the first language that we shared
41:15Music is where I find my mom
41:17When you're young you don't count moments
41:20You just don't even notice when you're older you understand that every moment of being present is a moment
41:26That continues to make you who you are and we hold those moments
41:31Inside songs
41:33Inside songs
41:35Applause
41:36Applause
41:37Applause
41:38Applause
41:39Applause
41:40Lay down your head
41:50Don't you worry tonight
41:53Can't fix the world no matter how you try
41:55Can't fix the world no matter how you try
42:00Give it some time you will find everything is alright
42:08There's no such thing as forever
42:15There's no such thing as forever
42:17There's no such thing as forever
42:18There's no such thing as forever
42:20But you and me we've got today
42:22But you and me we've got today
42:24Every moment we're together
42:28Every moment we're together
42:31I know there is a heaven
42:34Cause you make me feel that way
42:38When I get down
42:48When I get down
42:49You're the one that I call
42:53You pick me up
42:55Every time that I call
42:59And when I get down
43:00And when you lie
43:01And when you lie
43:02Nothing else matters truly at all
43:06There's no such thing as forever
43:14There's no such thing as forever
43:18But you and me we've got today
43:24Every moment we're together
43:31I know there is a heaven
43:34Cause you make me feel that way
43:41Oh
43:53Carbage out in the space
43:54Carbage in the lake
43:55Baby what a race
43:59Everybody's mad
44:01Everybody's sad
44:02See it in their face
44:06Gotta have the latest
44:07Gotta have the best
44:08The most
44:09If you want to be happy, light a match and light it all go up in the smoke
44:14There's no such thing as forever
44:23That you and me we've got today
44:30Every moment we're together
44:36I know there is a heaven
44:40Yours will make me feel and wait
44:44No such thing as forever
44:49No such thing
44:52That you and me we've got today
44:57Every moment we're together
45:03I know there is a heaven
45:06Cause you'll make me feel that way
45:12Thank you
45:21I have to introduce my band tonight
45:25Tim Smith
45:26I just have one last little thing to say
45:42And that is
45:43If I'm honest with myself
45:45What art is
45:46Is a picture of who you are
45:48At any given moment
45:49And looking back on my career
45:52And my body of work
45:53I could safely say
45:54It is pretty honest
45:56She was born in November
46:011963
46:03The day Aldous Huxley died
46:07And her mama believed
46:12Every man should be free
46:16But her mama got high
46:18And her daddy marched on Birmingham
46:24Singing mighty protest songs
46:29And he pictured all the places
46:31He knew that she belonged
46:33He failed and taught her young
46:37The only thing she needed to know
46:40To carry on
46:45He taught her how
46:47To run baby
46:49Run baby
46:50Run baby
46:50Run baby
46:52Run baby
46:53Run
46:55Run baby
47:01Run baby
47:03Run baby
47:05Run
47:08Run
47:12Pass the arms of the familiar
47:14And their talk of better days
47:19To the comfort of the strangers
47:22Slipping out before they say
47:25So long
47:28Baby loves to run
47:33She counts out all the money
47:40In the taxi on the way
47:43To meet her plane
47:45She stares hopeful out the window
47:53The workers fighting through
47:56The pouring rain
47:59And she's searching through the stations
48:05For an unfamiliar song
48:09And she pictures all the places
48:12She knows that she belongs
48:15She smiles
48:17She smiles a secret smile
48:18She smiles a secret smile
48:18So she knows exactly how
48:21To carry on
48:25Oh yeah
48:27Run baby
48:29Run
48:30Baby
48:31Run
48:32Baby
48:33Run
48:34Baby
48:35Run
48:36Run
48:37Baby
48:38Run
48:39Baby
48:41Run
48:42Baby
48:43Run
48:44Baby
48:45Run
48:46Baby
48:47Run
48:48From their old
48:53From their old familiar faces
48:55And their old familiar ways
48:59To the comfort of the strangers
49:01Slipping out before they say
49:05So long
49:09Baby
49:11Baby loves to run
49:12Baby loves to run
49:14And she's searching through the stations
49:39For an unfamiliar song
49:42And she pictures all the places
49:46She knows she still belongs
49:49She smiles a secret smile
49:52So she knows exactly how
49:55To carry on
49:59Run
50:02Baby
50:03Run
50:04Baby
50:05Run
50:06Baby
50:07Run

50:54And the old familiar ways
50:58To the comfort of the strangers
51:01Slippin' out before they say
51:05So long
51:08Baby, it's too much to run
51:17Baby, it's too much to run
51:35Thank you
