00:00Spot a UFO over the moon and catch it on film?
00:04People were convinced that NASA has been withholding evidence of alien life.
00:0850 years ago, did something come out of the sky and leave this man with stomach burns?
00:14As he got closer, he smelled sulfur and saw some really bright lights.
00:19His clothing and some of the soil out there were both found to be radioactive.
00:23Did a lost civilization harness a mysterious power in these stone spheres?
00:28The ancients knew those particular shapes were going to amplify the energy.
00:34Is this photo proof that a guardian angel helped a sick girl make a miraculous recovery?
00:39The bottom line is miracles can happen.
00:42And is this what it sounds like to go camping with Bigfoot?
00:48I think if these kinds of animals were out to get us, there'd be very few of us left.
00:52Around the globe are videos, photos, and sounds that defy explanation.
01:04We don't know where they come from, who made them, or how they operate.
01:13What are they?
01:14Some sort of bizarre mutation.
01:17What's exciting is nobody really knows.
01:19Extraordinary claims need extraordinary proof.
01:21I'm Tony Harris, and as a journalist for more than 30 years, I've followed the facts where they take me.
01:29Now I'm bringing that spirit of investigation to the world's strangest sounds and images.
01:34It's coming towards us.
01:36We'll analyze each one with top experts.
01:38It's a credible case.
01:40It's a credible video.
01:42And pass a verdict on what it is.
01:44This video is clearly fake.
01:46Good evening, and welcome to The Proof is Out There.
02:00Apollo 16 was NASA's fifth successful moon landing mission.
02:05One of its primary objectives, to inspect, survey, and collect rock and soil samples from the lunar surface.
02:12But did this moon mission encounter extraterrestrial life as well?
02:17And did NASA bury the truth?
02:21April 25, 1972.
02:24The Apollo 16 command module, Casper, has spent a total of five days in lunar orbit, circling the moon a total of 64 times.
02:32But due to issues with the service module engine, the crew re-docks with the command module and departs for Earth one day earlier than planned.
02:43As the men pull away from the moon, they film a truly unexpected sight through the window.
02:49A disk-shaped structure appears to be moving in an unusual trajectory above the lunar surface.
02:58It appears to have a dome in its center and a horizontal line or bar sticking out.
03:04The camera looks away, but shifts back once more in time to catch a final glimpse of the object.
03:11This video has long drawn the attention of UFO enthusiasts.
03:15It's understandable that people would see this and think it is a UFO.
03:19This kind of has that classic circular or disk-like shape that UFOs typically have.
03:25But also, it's at the moon.
03:27We don't know a lot about the moon.
03:29It's a very alien environment.
03:30And people who are convinced that NASA has been withholding evidence of aliens would point to this as evidence that NASA missed hiding.
03:39Hang on.
03:40Could NASA really be hiding signs of extraterrestrial life?
03:44Well, one of history's most esteemed astronauts said yes.
03:49Ed Mitchell was an Apollo astronaut.
03:51He was the lunar module pilot on Apollo 14, which meant he walked on the surface of the moon.
03:56And he maintained throughout his life that NASA had evidence of alien life.
04:02He was sure that there were some extraterrestrials out there that they had engaged with.
04:09Plus, at least one expert has analyzed the footage.
04:13In 2003, Japanese engineer Hiroshi Nakamura wrote an article hypothesizing that this disk could only be an extraterrestrial object.
04:23He said that it is the only explanation consistent with mission data.
04:27According to Nakamura's analysis, the object's wobbly movement is indicative of something three-dimensional.
04:33And its width, estimated by comparing it to the craters on the moon, could be as big as 70 miles.
04:40There are a lot of questions about this footage and plenty of unknowns, which kind of explains why this clip of the footage is so popular among UFO circles.
04:49According to NASA, people have now taken more than 4 million photos in space.
05:00Does this footage stand out among the rest as proof that something, or someone, is out there?
05:06Before making one giant leap to conclusions, we check with our experts.
05:11First, a theory promoted by debunkers over the years.
05:19This was just a glimpse of Earth.
05:21The reason why this could not be the Earth is because the Earth should be larger than what we've seen here.
05:27It specifically has two circular bands.
05:31Unless there was a hurricane that was going around the Earth at a high rate of speed,
05:34there is no way that this particular object could be the Earth.
05:37Some believe the object wasn't even really there, that it was a reflection from the window.
05:44But there's an easy way to tell.
05:46Camera reflections would be either an internal reflection or a lens flare, and they have a characteristic look to them.
05:54We would actually see the brightest spot, and it would look like a fuzzy thing over here on the opposite side of the field.
06:00It wouldn't be right next to it here.
06:02It'd be across the center of the frame.
06:04It looks to me like we're seeing a physical object.
06:09Could it truly be some sort of spacecraft like a UFO, as Nakamura suggested?
06:14Well, we see one big problem with Nakamura's analysis.
06:17He presumed that the object was as far away as the moon, and therefore huge.
06:22But our analysis puts this object closer to the camera, and therefore smaller.
06:26When the camera moves around, the object doesn't change position at all, relative to the command module.
06:33So what that's telling me is that this object is probably, literally, right outside the command module.
06:39It's not very far away at all.
06:40And that's not all the camera movement reveals.
06:43The fact that the camera moved towards the object and then moved back, I do not believe the astronaut thought that that object was that important.
06:52And none of the astronauts have came out and said that they saw extraterrestrials on their mission.
06:57My feeling is that this is a spotlight fixture on the command module.
07:02This here is the stock with the wire.
07:05This thing right here looks to me like a funnel-shaped light shield to help increase the brightness.
07:14And then that thing we see in the middle could be a light bulb.
07:16But why would a spaceship need a spotlight?
07:21On Apollo 16, they had to actually go outside the command module and do what's called an EVA, an extravehicular activity.
07:30And when they did the EVA, or the spacewalk, they had to use additional lighting.
07:34So it was the EVA floodlight housing and mount on the command module of the Apollo 16.
07:41We agree with DeAntonio, this is an EVA floodlight.
07:50NASA's Artemis program is scheduled to land astronauts on the moon's south pole as early as 2027.
07:57If they spot anything strange, we'll be sure to let you know.
08:03We want to talk about another kind of UFO encounter now, ones in which the eyewitness is allegedly injured.
08:09Unfortunately, there are many accounts of such events, like this one, which has become one of the most famous Canadian UFO incidents of all time.
08:20It's May 20th, 1967.
08:22After a relaxing weekend prospecting along Manitoba's Falcon Lake,
08:27amateur geologist and World War II veteran Stefan Mahalik returns to his hometown of Winnipeg,
08:34where he immediately goes through the emergency room.
08:37Stefan is vomiting, repeatedly fighting to remain conscious.
08:41That's when his shirt is open to reveal a gruesome sight.
08:47A series of dark, circular burns protrude from Stefan's torso in a precise grid-like pattern.
08:54He was prospecting for silver and quartz when he saw two red, glowing crafts in the sky.
09:03One of them took off and then one of them landed.
09:06So he decided to go get a closer look.
09:09As he got closer, he smelled sulfur and saw some really bright lights.
09:13And when he reached out to touch the craft, the craft began to spin.
09:18And he was actually knocked down by a burst of air that set his clothes on fire.
09:24A lot of people thought that this was a UFO, but Mahalik actually believed it was a secret military craft.
09:30Mahalik's youngest son, Stan, vividly remembers the day his dad went to the ER.
09:39My dad, who didn't want to get into it with this doctor, tells him there was an aircraft accident.
09:45He was scared.
09:46Here's a man who's been through the Second War.
09:48Here's a man who's been to the concentration camps.
09:50And he was terrified.
09:51According to Stan, the doctors treat his father's burns, but he continued to suffer from periodic blackouts, swelling, diarrhea, and nausea, all symptoms of radiation sickness.
10:04The Canadian government grabbed some of his clothing and some of the soil out there, which were both found to be radioactive.
10:10There was also radioactive metal embedded in rocks and a 15-foot diameter circle that was newly devoid of any vegetation or moss.
10:19The case became so big that even the U.S. government pitched in to assist the investigation.
10:25And some see similarities to another infamous case, the 1980 Rendlesham Forest incident,
10:31where two U.S. servicemen claimed to have encountered a UFO deep within the woods near a U.S. Air Force base in England.
10:39All the radios of all the cops were kind of going nuts that something was in the forest,
10:45right outside of the joint U.K. and United States base known as Bentwaters.
10:51These two police officers for the Air Force, Penniston and Burroughs, actually go out into the forest to try to locate the downed UFO.
11:01And lo and behold, they find it.
11:03Both witnesses report not only a brilliant bright light, but feeling this static charge in the air as they got close.
11:13Burroughs indicated to me that injuries that he sustained created havoc to his health, heart complications, and a loss of vision.
11:21All of those are very consistent with radiation poisoning.
11:25In 2015, Burroughs received disability benefits for his condition, which suggests that something did indeed happen to him.
11:35But what about those burns on Mahalik's stomach?
11:39Let's turn to our experts.
11:45First, did Stefan Mahalik's symptoms conform to radiation poisoning?
11:50His reports say that these symptoms lasted for weeks.
11:54You're really going to see those acute symptoms for two days.
11:57Then you have a latent period, and we would have seen abnormalities in his blood work, almost akin to people who undergo radiation or chemo.
12:05But the reports that I reviewed showed that he had normal blood work.
12:09And as far as these peculiar marks being radiation burns?
12:12With radiation burns, usually the zone of damage is going to be bigger.
12:18It's not just going to be a small pattern.
12:19To me, this looks like something made contact with just that area of skin, as opposed to a blast.
12:26It's almost like somebody took an item like this and pressed it against his chest.
12:31However, not everyone is as skeptical.
12:33This story matches so many other encounters like this, where you have physical evidence and evidence of burn injuries to a human body.
12:44If this is actually an injury from ionizing radiation, that would imply some sort of very collimated beams of radiation.
12:54Unlike radiation from microwaves or radio waves, ionizing radiation contains enough energy to damage living tissue.
13:02You can have ionizing radiation from radio isotopes used perhaps as fuel for some sort of black ops, exotic aircraft, or spacecraft.
13:13Then there are the findings from the site investigation.
13:17When the area of the sighting was studied, radiation was found not only in the soil, but pieces of metal found in the crust vegetation.
13:27In my opinion, this is an unexplainable story.
13:32Over 50 years later, this remains one of Canada's greatest UFO mysteries.
13:38The incident happened.
13:39We have the evidence.
13:40We just don't know what it was.
13:43Our verdict?
13:48This infamous case still remains an unexplained incident.
13:52Unfortunately, we may never get to the bottom of this story, but hopefully continued research will shed more light on the alleged injuries sustained during UAP encounters.
14:03When you think about the world's great archaeological destinations, you may picture the Egyptian pyramids or the Greek Parthenon.
14:14But what if I told you there were potentially even greater wonders hiding in a little-known Balkan forest?
14:21March 2016, near the city of Zavidovici, Bosnia, Dr. Samir Osmanagic, sometimes called the Bosnian Indiana Jones, is exploring a forest outside the town when he spots a strange object that immediately grabs his attention.
14:37An enormous, seemingly sculpted sphere is wedged into the ground, standing in stark contrast to the natural wilderness surrounding it.
14:47It appears to show some weathering, with chips and lines on the surface, but for the most part, it is smoothly curved.
14:54Its seemingly perfect shape has Dr. Osmanagic wondering if something unnatural is at play.
15:00You start thinking, hey, who are the people who are building all this?
15:05It had to be much more advanced civilizations.
15:09Today, you would need a huge piece of equipment to shape it, to move it.
15:15We took precise measurements.
15:17It is more than three and a half meter radius.
15:21It is 37.4 tons.
15:24This is, by far, the most massive stone sphere on the planet.
15:31This Bosnian sphere isn't traceable to any known civilization.
15:36However, there are some wild theories.
15:38Some people say this sphere would be evidence of a super-advanced human civilization living in the area years ago that we have no idea about.
15:47There were stone spheres discovered in Costa Rica in the 1930s.
15:50They were hand-carved by the disk's culture between 600 and 1,000 A.D., but they're significantly smaller than the spheres found in Bosnia, which are twice as heavy.
16:00Could an ancient civilization in the Balkans have created this mysterious sphere?
16:05In 2018, researchers discovered that the Great Pyramid of Giza can concentrate electromagnetic energy at its base.
16:14Osmanagic claims that an advanced ancient civilization did the same thing here,
16:18creating the sphere to harness energy.
16:21The ancients knew that if they placed such structures in those particular shapes, that they were going to amplify the energy.
16:35Dr. Osmanagic once claimed that he'd found an ancient pyramidal complex, just like the one in Giza, in the Balkan Hills.
16:43Again, he said that this structure was the work of an advanced civilization and capable of amplifying energy.
16:50Osmanagic's claims have received support from the Bosnian government.
16:54But can we believe his claims about this mystery sphere?
16:58Let's ask our experts.
17:04First, we look into the idea that these Bosnian spheres are advanced tech wielding powerful energy.
17:10This one itself, in the picture, you can see that there's a big missing piece of the sphere, and there's this crack here.
17:19For me, they're too random to be specifically carved to be a shape that can produce energy.
17:27I would think that they would be perfect.
17:31However, when you really look at the sphere, none of them are perfectly round.
17:36It turns out geology, and not an advanced civilization, is the true force behind this massive stone.
17:43The Bosnian sphere is one of a number of examples of a global phenomena called concretions.
17:51These are stones, sometimes they'll start around a walnut or a stick.
17:57But as they roll through rivers of certain pitch that are made of mostly limestone, all that particulate sticks to the ball.
18:08And it rolls over time, and it becomes kind of a snowball.
18:12The geologic process of how these balls form is very well known, it's very well documented, and it's not debated.
18:24There are some on the coast of Japan.
18:26There are some in Oregon.
18:28There are a few that are on the coast of New Zealand.
18:32There are a number of natural examples in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the United States.
18:38When you put those into the perspective, the process is very common.
18:44What's uncommon is them getting to very large size, like the ones in Bosnia.
18:53Our verdict?
18:54We're going to go with concretion.
18:57What makes these Bosnian concretions so huge is still a mystery.
19:01Normandy, France is known as the site of the Great D-Day invasion of World War II.
19:09We know the Allied forces landed there.
19:12But do these photos prove a UFO did too?
19:16October 1989, Normandy, France.
19:20In the early morning hours, a man is trying to comfort his upset dog,
19:24when suddenly he sees a large blue beam of light shoot up toward the sky in a nearby field.
19:31The following day, the owner of that field investigates and finds this.
19:37More than 50 feet of the field appears destroyed.
19:41The vegetation replaced by dark, spongy soil sunken about six inches below the surrounding grass.
19:48French UFO researcher Baptiste Freescore says the strange site becomes known as Le True Normand,
19:57which means the Norman Hole.
20:00People at the time considered it mysterious because suddenly after a huge light,
20:07a patch of grass was burned.
20:10So many thought it was a trace on the ground of a UFO landing.
20:15It's easy to see why the theory caught on, considering the French Space Agency, CNES,
20:21had already investigated a similar case years earlier across the country in a town called Trans-en-Provence.
20:28One of the most intriguing events in French UFO cases happened January 8, 1981, at 5 p.m.
20:38The witness hears a whistling.
20:41A craft rushes through the trees, lands 200 feet in front of him.
20:48Then the craft shoots up and circular traces are found on the ground.
20:56A few days later, the Space Agency collected soil samples at the site,
21:01which suggested something heavy and perhaps very hot hit the ground there.
21:06So did a UFO land and take off?
21:08And did the same thing happen years later?
21:14In 2007, France became the first country to release all of its UFO files.
21:19This digital archive contains more than 1,000 UFO cases, including this one.
21:25Does that mean this is a true UFO?
21:28Not until our experts say so.
21:34First, could that flash of blue light that the eyewitness saw have come from a fire?
21:39Turns out there's a type of fire that can cause a pattern like this.
21:43If you have very thick layers of organic material, let's say like in peat bogs or in areas where you have a lot of decked vegetation,
21:52you can get these things called zombie fires.
21:55Peat is a kind of soil containing partially decomposed plant material, making it rich in carbon and highly flammable.
22:02The fires start, they literally burn along the bottom, and then it finally comes to a spot where it can open up to the surface and burn outwards.
22:10But there's one problem with that theory.
22:13Zombie fires can smolder for months or even years and would have still been burning when people found it.
22:18So was it a fire that started in a different way?
22:22Upon further investigation, there was a chemical analysis done of the soil and of the grasses in here.
22:29And guess what they found?
22:30They found a chemical signature of kerosene.
22:35And many aircraft at the time actually used kerosene as fuel.
22:38So it's possible that blue glow might have been aircraft dumping fuel.
22:44But that kerosene signature could also be attributed to some local history.
22:50This is really near the Normandy beachhead.
22:54And during World War II, there were a lot of tanks and vehicles driving in that area.
22:57So it would not surprise me to find a kerosene signature in the soil.
23:07Our verdict?
23:08We're going with a kerosene fire, though the source of that kerosene is still up for debate.
23:14However, the Trons-en-Provence case continues to be unexplained, even by France's space agency.
23:20And we've only begun to scratch the surface of France's UFO files.
23:24Who knows what we'll find next?
23:29Map-making during the age of exploration was a feat of human ingenuity,
23:34tracing the known world just as the world was becoming known.
23:38But this map that we're about to show you is unlike any other.
23:43It could be hundreds of years ahead of its time, and perhaps not even human in origin.
23:501929.
23:50Istanbul, Turkey.
23:52A German theologian named Gustav Deismann is cataloging antiquities at the Topkapi Palace Library.
23:58While making his way through the material, he sees this.
24:03It's a faded map filled with detailed illustrations of Europe, Africa, and the Americas.
24:10At the bottom, there appears to be a landmass depicting Antarctica.
24:15But there's a problem.
24:16While Antarctica was first spotted by explorers in the 19th century,
24:20according to this text, this antique map is dated 1513.
24:27What's up with that?
24:29Deismann found this map, or the fragment of the map,
24:33and being able to read the script on it, he saw the name Piri Reis.
24:38Piri Reis was an important figure in Turkish naval history at that time,
24:43because he had written a book called The Book of the Sea.
24:47He had written two different versions of it that are in different archives around the world.
24:53The possibility that Reis mapped Antarctica some 300 years ahead of its reported discovery
24:58is already surprising.
25:00But one missing detail makes this depiction even more interesting.
25:05There are some who believe the map depicts Antarctica without an ice cap.
25:09And if that's the case, that means it could be based on references that are at least 6,000 years old.
25:14When the ice cap of Antarctica was 160 miles away from where it currently is.
25:20If that's the case, it would also mean that it predates the oldest known map,
25:23the Amago Mundi, by thousands of years.
25:26That's why some have suggested the map's true author wasn't Piri Reis at all,
25:31pointing to a design element of the map as evidence.
25:34Some people think that this map is an example of the Mercator Projection,
25:37a cartography technique that wouldn't actually be invented until later on in the 16th century.
25:42Mercator Projection gives modern maps their lines of longitude and latitude.
25:48The radial lines seen on the Piri Reis map are, for some, the fingerprints of the true mapmaker.
25:55Someone ahead of their time, and possibly out of this world.
25:59Some people have taken that theory and run with it,
26:02posing that the Ottomans were actually in contact with aliens,
26:05who gave them the details that they would need to create the map.
26:08Because, according to them, it's just too advanced for people of the 16th century to have created.
26:20For years, the Vinland map was heralded as the earliest depiction of the New World,
26:26dating from the 15th century.
26:27But a recent analysis revealed it to be a fake, drawn up with 20th century ink.
26:34It's enough to have us asking if the Piri Reis map is everything that theorists claim.
26:40Let's ask our experts.
26:45First, we tackle the question of whether the true author of the map is extraterrestrial.
26:51If this was something an alien had seen from above the air and was able to document it,
26:57I think it would be more accurately depicted.
27:00And what you see here is such a tiny fraction of what the whole of Antarctica looks like.
27:05There are other things about it that aren't correct, like North America.
27:09The Caribbean isn't exactly correct.
27:11I don't believe that this knowledge comes from anything extraterrestrial.
27:15If aliens didn't have a hand in this map, what about its allegedly advanced use of Mercator projection?
27:22That's not Mercator.
27:24It looks a bit like it, but this is instead what we call a Portolan map.
27:29Portolan means a port map.
27:32And the radial patterns we see are from a fixed point where boats would navigate to hit various ports.
27:40But the appearance of Antarctica is at the dead center of all the questions about the Piri Reis map.
27:48So, what is it that we're looking at here?
27:50Starting sometime in the 15th, 16th century, 17th century,
27:55there was more and more talk that there must be some other continent to the south of us.
28:01They called it Terra Australis.
28:04It was actually a concept that came all the way back from the Greeks.
28:08The Greeks also thought there must be some sort of continent down there.
28:12But enough people talked about it where people were putting it theoretically on maps.
28:17The Terra Australis explanation also sheds light on why there's no ice cap on this map's Antarctica.
28:25Some people suggested that it was a picture of Antarctica before it was iced over.
28:31And that's an interesting possibility, but we now have the technology to look under the ice and see where the actual landforms are.
28:41It is nothing like what's portrayed in this map.
28:44Our verdict, we're looking at Terra Australis.
28:53This isn't the work of aliens, just an example of a skilled cartographer attempting to map out the unknown.
29:00And speaking of the unknown, what on earth is this thing right here?
29:05A dinosaur?
29:06A mythical sea creature?
29:08Maybe that's a mystery for another time.
29:09In a 2007 survey, 57% of Catholics, 66% of Evangelicals, and 10% of Jews reported having a personal experience with a guardian angel.
29:23Could this next story be proof they really do exist?
29:28November 2008, Charlotte, North Carolina.
29:32Colleen Banton is at the bedside of her chronically ill 14-year-old daughter, Chelsea.
29:36Chelsea is battling severe pneumonia, and she's attached to a ventilator.
29:41Doctors have told Colleen they are running out of options.
29:44As Colleen prays, a nurse calls her attention to a nearby security monitor.
29:49And that's when Colleen sees something extraordinary on the screen.
29:53She takes out her camera and photographs the monitor, capturing this.
29:58A bright spot is flaring in front of the doors to the pediatric ICU.
30:03It resembles a human figure with wings.
30:05I said, it looks like an angel, but I've never seen anything like this.
30:12I looked down the hall.
30:13I don't see it there.
30:15You could only see it in the TV monitor that was in there.
30:19So I was blown away.
30:22It stayed there for probably an hour or so.
30:26Again, it's only visible on the computer screen, not the wall itself.
30:30Colleen calls what happened next with her daughter a miracle.
30:33And when they took her off with the machine, all of her stats were perfect.
30:39She was fine.
30:40She didn't have to go back on the ventilator or anything.
30:43Even the doctor said, that's from that angel.
30:46That angel healed her.
30:48And not just an angel, a guardian angel.
30:50The idea that every person has their own specific guardian angel is a common Christian belief.
30:56The idea that there is one angel perhaps assigned to them to look out for them in times of need.
31:02In the Christian tradition and the Jewish tradition, and even in the Islamic tradition in the hadith,
31:09we see angels being created from light.
31:12Stories within these religious traditions support Colleen's belief that a divine healing power saved her daughter.
31:19We see stories of Jesus curing those people who are crippled, those people who are blind, and restoring them back to health.
31:27We see numerous stories of angels exhibiting their healing powers.
31:32For example, in the Gospel of John, we see the stirring of the pool of Bethesda.
31:36So healing miracles are prominent in the Bible.
31:40We have as many as 36 million hospital admissions a year, 140 million emergency room admissions.
31:47So it's not surprising that people of faith would assume that there would be angelic events happening in a hospital itself.
31:56In a previous episode, we brought you the story of an alleged angel that saved a driver from a potentially horrific SUV crash.
32:04In that case, our experts were stumped.
32:07But what's going on here?
32:13Since this is an image of an image, is it possible that the light we're seeing is simply the flash from Colleen's camera?
32:21It's definitely not.
32:22It's embedded within the display.
32:25You can see the lines of the monitor within that image.
32:27So this is definitely not a flash.
32:29There is something occurring within that space.
32:32There is something that the camera is seeing.
32:34The big question is whether the source of this light is divine or not.
32:39I can't confirm or deny what the source of that light is, but these doors appear to be ajar.
32:44Could they have influenced the light within that region to reflect or refract information up onto that corner to demonstrate the shape of something?
32:53There's a number of components that can result in error or create artifacts, and we see this a lot in surveillance technology.
32:59Some surveillance cameras and digital sensors can see beyond the spectrum of light visible to the human eye.
33:05So it's possible that whatever's beaming into this space when the doors open might go unseen by people at the hospital.
33:12The source of the light remains unknown, but what's undeniable is the miraculous timing of Chelsea's recovery.
33:18It's remarkable that so many things happened at exactly the right time.
33:23The fact that she didn't die, she came back.
33:27So the bottom line is miracles can happen.
33:30They are rare.
33:31That's why they're called miracles.
33:33I think after everything is said and done, there's simply not enough data to make a definitive conclusion.
33:39Our verdict, unexplained phenomenon.
33:47We may not have definitive proof about the source of that image, but we do have a story of miraculous recovery.
33:55Chelsea was able to make it home weeks after her mom took the picture, just in time for Christmas.
34:00She brought absolute joy to her family.
34:03But unfortunately, in the following years, her health issues got worse, and she passed away in 2015 at the age of 21.
34:15Did you know that our National Forest Service manages a whopping 193 million acres of land?
34:23That's almost 9% of the country.
34:25So is it really so hard to believe that Bigfoot could be living somewhere in there?
34:29April 28, 2009, we're in North Carolina's Uari National Forest.
34:36Bigfoot researcher Mike Green has set up thermal imaging cameras to record through the evening.
34:42He says he's encountered Bigfoot in this forest before, and he's determined to capture it on film.
34:47After leaving the cameras unattended for a few hours, he returns to see that they've recorded this.
34:53The thermal imagery makes it hard to identify, but if we push in and enhance the footage,
35:00we can clearly see a large humanoid figure skulking between the trees.
35:05Green estimated the figure to be over 7 1⁄2 feet tall.
35:09The technique of putting out a recorder or a camera and then leaving the area, it frankly makes a lot of sense.
35:16Sasquatches are paranoid enough, and if there's a person lurking around, they're going to be acting differently than they would if they were alone.
35:25Then, nearly 10 years later, in 2018, another Bigfoot researcher, Matt Hooper of the Carolina Cryptid Field Research Team,
35:34set up audio equipment in the same forest.
35:36I started hearing the stories of what other people were encountering out there,
35:40so I went out there for five days with a friend.
35:43I had my recorders going, as usual.
35:45And when Matt checks them the following morning, he captured a howl in the distance.
35:56Then, another roar that seems to overlap with other howls.
36:00It's hard to hear, so we'll pump up the volume.
36:06You can see it, the spikes on the waveform, and it keeps moving through the tree line.
36:20Hooper wouldn't tell us where in the forest he recorded the sound,
36:24which is standard practice among Bigfoot researchers.
36:27I don't share my best spots for the same reason I don't share my best fishing spots.
36:31I don't want people going in there and planting evidence and trying to hoax me.
36:36Do these overlapping howls suggest multiple creatures possibly staking claim to their territory?
36:42Stories from the past suggest that Sasquatch are indeed territorial.
36:46Take the case of Portlock, Alaska.
36:49The prime peninsula that was chock full of valuable game and shellfish
36:53was found mysteriously abandoned by the local natives,
36:56who told stories about people being torn apart by the Nantinok, or hairy man.
37:01An attempt made in the 1920s to industrialize the area failed
37:07after continued disappearances and strange animal attacks
37:11prompted all the townsfolk to flee,
37:14leaving the area deserted to this very day.
37:17Seeing one of these things must be horrifying,
37:20especially if it's chasing you out of an area.
37:23But I argue that these kinds of animals are not overtly aggressive
37:27because I think if they were out to get us, there'd be very few of us left.
37:34Going back to that footage from 2009,
37:38Mike Green, the man who collected it,
37:40said whatever was in the video stole two things from his camp,
37:44a Zagnut candy bar and a squeaky toy that belonged to his grandchildren.
37:48This is why many people now call this the squeaky thermal.
37:53Could these recordings be proof that beasts are lurking
37:56somewhere within the Uwari National Forest?
37:59Let's talk to the experts.
38:05Let's start by taking a closer look at Mike Green's thermal video.
38:09I am impressed by the shape of the head.
38:12It has a kind of receding brow to a high point posteriorly.
38:16That is a characteristic of hominoids.
38:19Lacking a large brain,
38:20they don't have the prominent forehead that a human skull would have.
38:24Still, the image is too ambiguous to be convincing proof by itself.
38:29What about the audio recording?
38:35There does not seem to be any edits or any discrepancies
38:39that would lead me to believe that there was anything tampered in the recording.
38:44It appears to be an authentic recording.
38:45Many people thought these could just be coyotes.
38:49So we compare the sounds.
39:01It's not a coyote.
39:03Next, we compare the recording to the so-called Ohio howls,
39:07recorded in Columbiana County, Ohio, in 1994.
39:10Some Bigfoot researchers consider it to be the genuine sound of a Bigfoot
39:15howling and disturbing local dogs.
39:17The Ohio howls have this change of frequency.
39:33The sounds from the Huari recording have a very constant frequency there from different sources.
39:39So if that's not a match, then what are we hearing?
39:43Although the exact location of the recording is unknown,
39:47one clue might be an important landmark just several miles outside of the Huari forest.
39:53That's the North Carolina Zoo.
39:55One of the questions would be, how far away from the zoo could it be if there isn't much wind?
40:02Probably we could hear a zoo animal perhaps up to half a mile away.
40:05So we don't have a way of knowing exactly what the sound source is here.
40:09This would be from some other origin, something worthy of investigation.
40:13Our verdict? We're calling this one an unexplained sound.
40:22Both the video and audio recording weren't enough for our experts to come to a conclusion.
40:27So if there is a monster lurking in the Huari National Forest,
40:32it will remain anonymous until further investigation.
40:35And that's our show for tonight.
40:37Thank you so kindly for watching.
40:39And keep those cameras rolling.
40:43We'll see you next time.
