01:21week i've never fired anyone before we got to figure out who's going to make it and who's not

01:30right now we have a lot going on here at dominion we have bob running the bridge cut we have
01:50slucifer running the golden mile one month into the season parker schnabel's foreman tyson lee
01:58has his hands full to hit a 10 000 ounce season gold parker's pushing tyson to mine as much gold as
02:08possible on his dominion creek claim
02:10normally it's been moved that wash plant get it set up have a month to breathe

02:27all these operators and one of them isn't going to make the cut letting someone go getting rid of

03:29top who's doing fine and coarse tailings then we have michael down below who's loading trucks two new
03:36truck drivers there's lauren and julian and then upstream we have caden loading mary and who the is with
03:42mary it's a lot of new people man over at the bridge cut
03:52ah for sakes new loader operator charlie carlton is struggling to clear tailings from wash plant bob
04:00charlie seems to be having issues with his loader overheating he doesn't understand when to curl
04:06hopefully it's nothing too crazy yo yo hey so how's it going i let it go down a few more degrees it's
04:16at 107 now so that is caused by two different issues you always want to have the tires moving
04:28when you're going in for a scoop watch me scoop there's zero resistance against the machine if you're
04:33going in for a scoop like this see how much the machine is struggling it's making that number climb
04:41another thing that does it is riding the brake so if you're riding around like this
04:50that number is going to climb those are the two reasons why your rear axle oil temp is rising and
04:56then what is a safe temperature to start running again i think it got to about 120 122
05:02it really shouldn't get over 100. yeah 122 is on all right thank you no worries
05:13so i'll pay attention to both those things more next time

05:32this year i do not have time for that we've hired some experienced guys
05:37because we need some experience charlie's experience level does not match what i was told

06:01so how did you get the job here i used to work as a software developer and systems engineer and i'd spend
06:07my days in front of computers and i was just sick of it i'm like man i need to get out get into gold
06:13mining and get out in the wilderness
06:18i don't really know what to say man oh what is he doing i'm hoping to be able to get him to go a bit
06:25faster because uh he's gonna have to take care of this on his own you're not always gonna get the best

07:30tyson and parker leave no stone unturned they have to train up some people that they can be
07:37confident will get every last drop of gold out of this cut
07:40in the golden mile new hire caden foot digs out pockets of pay from a section of the cut
07:54i'm a very driven motivated person i also like to think of myself as a little bit of a perfectionist
08:01i like to do things right the first time and i don't like to come back and do them again
08:05we have a lot of new people and a couple of them are struggling here caden's one of them

09:23cut deeper and digging channels to funnel water from the center cut down to the ditch exposing the

10:09of all is to get the water out and and if you've got a drain running right beside where the water needs to
10:16go then you can see what's there and what needs to be dug out because it's only been a few minutes and
10:23he's got that drain in 100 and we'll be off to the races yes ma'am

11:42the worm while we sure got us at indian river king of the klondike tony beats is off to a strong start
11:53so far his early bird cut has banked over 1 000 ounces of gold of his 6 500 ounce target
12:01tony wants to keep up the pace and is on a mission to sluice 24 7
12:11right now we're ripping this piece of frost out of here i don't want to
12:14light i just want to make sure then you can just start losing day and night
12:20yeah tony seems to have a little bit of a rocket off his ass he is getting older but he is not tired yet
12:26cousin mike is running tony's only working money maker sluice a lot feeding it 250 yards of pay dirt an
12:35hour and eating through ground faster than tony can open it up i just need more equipment because
12:44they're going to be stripping day and night and then that opens up the whole world behind us you see
12:50to increase his indian river stripping power tony's on the hunt for a dozer an excavator and three more
12:58rock trucks i just got an email this morning saying that it was a dozer for sale so we're going to go
13:08over check this out you never have enough toys the guy that dies with the most of the toys wins i'm well
13:17on my way to have a whole pile okay well let's go have a look on even second hand a d10 dozer
13:32could set tony back more than one million dollars those are all good yeah so he's brought along trusted

16:29it's been a tough start to the season i did a classic rick move and i made a quick decision and
16:34bought uh this ground out at lightning creek people that know me know i don't have a whole lot of
16:39patience we gotta hope the gold's there and uh we're gonna go soon
16:46rick ness has gone all in on his biggest gamble yet
16:52after his water license on duncan creek expired rick's thrown down seven hundred thousand dollars
16:59for the lightning creek claim with no idea how much gold is in the ground
17:05it's a hell of a gamble i made this purchase based off of like a two-yard test probably more
17:14like a yard and a half you know one pan with you know a few grams not even a gram of golden
17:21it probably is one of the crazier things i've ever done you know what i'm stubborn like that i want to
17:27do things my way and that's just how it's going to be at the end of the day if i know the gold's there
17:32we just got to make a payoff if rick hits a hot spot on the notoriously unpredictable keno ground
17:40it could mean a massive payday
17:45rick loves taking big risks is it smart i don't know yet obviously time will tell but uh
17:51we we all support him i think this whole crew is big risk takers and you know that's why we're here for
17:56him i mean you can make a plan and it sounds good and looks good on paper but it's definitely a
18:03finger cross moment now it's time to find out if rick's bet will pay off we are down to pay now it
18:12actually went really quick the guys did a great job they stuck with me and now they're seeing paid
18:16already so i'm gonna get to lightning creek get the guys together get a plan to get rocky set up and
18:21get on the damn goal to start sluicing rick just needs to move wash plant rocky into place

18:38whole lot of space to deal with right here we're all set up i'll drag it backward then the only thing
18:42i'm worried about is it's a real narrow area the creek on one side and kind of a bank on that side
18:47i'm gonna have to hug the creek to get this you know that sluice box past that bank otherwise it's
18:51dragging get all bent out of shape so it's gonna have to have everybody on you know on both sides
18:56both banks just yelling and screaming at me not to hit anything and it should be good
19:04rick's crew has already removed the two acre diamond cuts shallow overburden and 15 feet of pay
19:12to make a stockpile ready to run now he wants to pull his 32 foot wide 25 ton wash plant rocky from
19:23its current home 300 feet along a narrow and winding track using his 750 excavator avoiding a bank on one
19:33side and the creek on the other then drag it into position near his pay pile
19:40and finally fire it up
19:48i just need eyes around me yeah yeah eyes around right the hills have eyes yeah well this is it start

26:40what we're after right we're after that yellow it's worth something for some weird reason i'm just
26:45watching what you're doing so i can mimic it in my own work yeah yeah pretty much
26:52i think tyson will feel that i'm really trying my best to do what he wants and get it right the first
26:59time we need to get this material out of here and we need it to happen now my goal is to get caden
27:05spelt out on the way we do things here the main thing is just getting the water out letting it so
27:13it can drain you can see how the water is draining towards the ditch now because it's sloped
27:20so you can see kind of what i'm doing here right yeah sloping the edge leveling it out
27:26or well not leveling but giving it a slope so water can run down into the trench but yeah have fun i will
27:33try my absolute best to make you proud yeah he explained it the way we like it done but there's
27:45zero execution we have operators here who said they had lots of experience and when they got here it
27:53didn't show so are one of those people going to be the ones to leave maybe maybe not is it going to be
27:58due to poor attitude maybe maybe not not a decision i take lightly but these people were hired to do a
28:05job and if they can't do that job and find someone else no issues with the temperature i'm fine over at
28:16the bridge cut loader operator charlie is still on tailings i'm starting to feel a little more comfortable
28:23it's a little less chaotic i don't see much of tyson he's so busy maybe that's a good thing that i
28:35don't see him much because trust me if i was doing a bad job i'm sure i would hear more from him though

29:55tyson this year has a lot of responsibility so i thought i'd just run down and see how he's doing

31:05not doing the job they don't understand the job you're gonna fight with him all season long now's

33:17when we're hiring experienced operators we need experience or sadly they're gonna have to go down
33:24the road 25 miles west at sulfur creek caden has survived but been demoted to loader operator
33:35right now parker doesn't have enough guys to run loader i'm not sure if tyson had anything to do with
33:43me coming out here but it ain't my fault that tyson's not around to give me guidance hopefully i can go
33:50back to dig and pay because that's my happy place in my big sandbox
33:59we don't have time for people to be not good at their job
34:04we only have so much time up here in the yukon to get as much gold out of the ground as we can
34:13get as much gold out of the river i just care i'm getting the cuts stripped and ready because then i
34:26have lots of pay ready for when i do start sluicing but what i need is to get my trommel set up
34:32at paradise hill mike beats is trying to prove himself to his dad tony
34:38in the hope that one day he'll get his own ground but so far he hasn't sluiced an ounce of gold
34:47i gotta get my pump set up i gotta get a bunch of welding and cleanup and then set up all the conveyors
34:53and then i'm also gonna have to put in my hopper and everything
