00:00This is pretty impressive. Take a look at this. Almost half of the country is covered in snow.
00:04As of 1 a.m. back on Friday morning when the most recent snow analysis was captured,
00:11there was snow still falling, and actually there's more snow on the ground than even the statistic represents
00:15because the snow has since filled in into Virginia.
00:18But look at this, 45.4 percent of the nation, at least a contiguous 48 states here, covered in snow.
00:24That's the greatest amount of snow cover on December 5th in 20 years.
00:28The last time we had it on December 5th with more snow cover than this was just a little bit more,
00:33about 47-plus percent on December 5th of 2005, 20 years ago.
00:37So what this map does not represent was the additional snow that fell since that 1 a.m. capture.
00:43And you can see much of Virginia has had snow pretty significant.
00:46Four inches reported south of Richmond in Petersburg, Virginia.
00:49And that is going to be snow cover that, at least for many of us, sticks around for a short time
00:54with that cold air in the mid-Atlantic.
00:55But for many of us in the Midwest and the Northeast, the snow cover will stick around for quite a while.
